Diabetes mellitus is the most common metabolic disorder characterized by the presence of hyperglycemia due to defective insulin secretion, defective insulin action or both. Traditional Medicines derived from medicinal plants are used by about 60% of the world's population. We focus on herbal drugs and plants used in the treatment of diabetes. Diabetes is an important human ailment afflicting many from various walks of life in different countries. In Egypt it is proving to be a major health problem, especially in the urban areas. Though there are various approaches to reduce the ill effects of diabetes and its secondary complications, herbal formulations are preferred due to lesser side effects and low cost. A list of medicinal plants with proven antidiabetic and related beneficial effects and of herbal drugs used in treatment of diabetes is compiled. One of the etiologic factors implicated in the development of diabetes and its complications is the damage induced by free radicals and hence an antidiabetic compound with antioxidant properties would be more beneficial. Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is a chronic, progressive metabolic disease characterized by chronic hyperglycemia. Although its main physiological abnormalities are insulin resistance and impaired insulin secretion, the specific underlying determinants of these metabolic defects remain uncertain. There are complex interactions between genetic, epigenetic, environmental and behavioral factors that contribute to the development of diabetes. Non-pharmacological and pharmacological interventions have been used for diabetic management. Over the past few years, research has started to focus on the use of novel adjuvant drugs as antioxidants and anti-inflammatory drugs for better management, as it was revealed that both oxidative stress and inflammation play a critical role in the disease pathogenesis.Thus, the development of antidiabetic drugs that can reverse insulin resistance is a potential therapeutic target. Although antidiabetic drugs may be effective in improving glycemic control, they do not appear to be effective in entirely preventing the progression of pancreatic ß-cells damage mediated by chronic hyperglycemia-induced decline in intracellular antioxidants. Mastitis, inflammation of mammary gland, is one of the most important diseases causing economic losses to dairy industry worldwide. Antibiotics are the only proven method of treatment against bovine mastitis. Presence of antibiotic residues in milk and food chain are the greatest disadvantage of use of antibiotics for the treatment of mastitis. In addition chemical teat dip residues pose another health hazards. Hence, it becomes necessary to develop new strategies for prophylaxis and treatment of mastitis. The study " Preventive and therapeutic modalities for control of bovine mastitis" was a step in this direction. The effect of 0.2% glutaraldehyde and Aloe vera teat dip on CMT point score and SCC was evaluated in 200 lactating cows for 90 days. Therapeutic efficacy of Amoxycillin, Sulbactam, vitamin E and selenium was judged on the basis of CMT point score and SCC. Antiinflammatory potential of vitamin E and selenium was adjudged by estimation of ceruloplasmin. Antioxidant potential was adjudged by estimation of catalase and glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px) activity. Antibacterial potential of aqueous extract P. emblica was evaluated against S. aureus.

Essential oils are complex mixtures of biologically active substances used since a long time as flavouring agents and constituents of number of commercial products. Currently,their importance is more highlighted due to their increasing demand for food, cosmetics and pharmaceutical industries. Recent scientific literature revealed the antimicrobial, antifungal and antioxidant potential of essential oils. In the present study, some sweet Basil(Ocimum basilicum) species of Labiatae family were screened for the isolation of essential oils.The hydro-distilled essential oils were characterized for their physic-chemical and biological activities.GC and GC-MS analysis of the chemical constituents of the isolated oils mainly revealed the presence of monoterpene hydrocarbons, sesquiterpene hydrocarbons, oxygenated monoterpenes and oxygenated sesquiterpenes. The antioxidant potential of Skimmia anquetilia and Dicliptera bupleuroides methanolic extracts and fractions was evaluated using the eight multidimensional methods. The accrue data presenting that; TEAC and FRAP Value vary from 6.09-1.65mM, 7.04-2.03 for S. anquetilia and 3.5-0.4, 3.8-1.8 respectively for D. bupleuroides. Phenolic content of S. anquetilia ranged from 3.04-0.4 gallic acid (mg/L) and 1.5-0.44 gallic acid (mg/L) for D. bupleuroides. S. anquetilia and D. bupleuroides Aqueous and organic soluble fraction were rich of flavinoids which was range from 1712.7-249.1 mg catchecin eq. and 885.4-107.2 mg catchecin eq respectively. Total antioxidant activity by phosphomolybdenum method was determined for various fraction of S. anquetilia and D. bupleuroides ranged from 0.555-0.09 and 0.42-0.17 respectively. The percentage of superoxide anion radical scavenging ranged from 99.5 to 4.96 for S. anquetilia and 78.4 to 68 for D. bupleuroides. The percentage bound Iron in S. anquetilia fraction was varying from 73.5 to 61.9 and 94.8-69.2 for D. bupleuroides. The amass results of indicated that S. anquetilia and D. bupleuroides is a rich source of natural antioxidants.

Cow colostrum is claimed to have antioxidant effects and TMP is popularly used in the treatment of cardiovascular diseases. This study demonstrates the neuroprotective potential of cow colostrum and TMP. They appear to be promising drugs for the prophylaxis and treatment of global cerebral ischemia.

Even when its origins are still uncertain, the uses of calendula as a medicine and as a colouring were known to the old herbalists, especially Arabs and Hindus. Greeks, who started cultivating it more recently, used calendula flowers to decorate their feasts and to make garlands to honour their heroes. Calendula has long been used in topical applications, to treat skin ulcers, infected wounds, diaper rash, eczema, varicose veins, hemorrhoids, periodontitis and conjunctivitis. The study revealed that Calendula oil has great potential to be used for pharmaceuticals purposes. Natural oil derived from calendula plant has good results when used in cosmetics. Antioxidant activity, anti-tumor promoting effect, wound healing and anti-carcinogenic effect is the main reason of using calendula oil in medicines and cosmetics. Calendula oil has high moisturizing effects.

Inhaltsangabe:Abstract: Giving the powerful means of branding and brand-based differentiation for creating and sustaining a competitive advantage especially in highly competitive markets such as the automobile market, this study explores brand attitudes of existing and potential customers towards the brand BMW. Moreover, this study analyzes the level and source of customer satisfaction as well as the level and source of customer loyalty of existing and potential customers. While this study considers five different factors for the degree of customer satisfaction, there is only one factor considered for the degree of brand loyalty. The factors considered for customer satisfaction are perceived customer service, perceived quality, perceived innovation, perceived technology and perceived price, while the factor considered for brand loyalty is customer satisfaction itself. The analysis of brand loyalty distinguishes between repurchase loyalty and attitudinal loyalty, former being analyzed for existing customers and latter being analyzed for potential customers. The results indicate that (1) BMW has a high level of awareness, both in recognition and recall, (2) the image of BMW is favorable, strong and relevant, and (3) BMW is mainly associated with performance and style by existing customers and status by potential customers. Present study deals with the growth and antioxidant enzyme response in Gmelina arborea under Aluminium and manganese toxicity inoculated with AM fungi. Two AM fungal species namely Glomus intraradices and Gigaspora margarita were used as AM inoculum singly or in combination. Results revealed that AMF modulates the antioxidant and non antioxidant enzyme activities which help Gmelina to overcome oxidative stress caused by HM. In present work, interaction between AM fungi and Gmelina under heavy metal toxicity showed AM fungal species increase the soil properties and minimize the toxic effects of heavy metals by enhancing the growth and vigour of Gmelina plants. This study can also be used for rehabilitation of HM contaminated sites (mining sites) by using AM inoculated Gmelina plants. AMF can accelerate the revegetation of several degraded lands, such as coal mines, metal mines or waste sites.

Synthetic food colorants are facing an uncertain future on the point of safety in use. This situation has prompted increased interest in the development of alternate food colorants . The application of Capsicum annum (Paprika ) and its oleoresin as a color additive frequently overlaps it's use as a spice . The colouring matter of chilli is a mixture of carotenoids and the principle pigment being Capsanthin. In separation of color components of chilli, the powder was extracted with different solvents to obtain chilli extract and color value was determined and found to be 8613 Nesslar Unit. The pigment was isolated and it's color value was determined. In case of Capsanthin crystals colour value was found to be 10216 Nesslar Unit. Turmeric extract is widely used both as a spice and a colorant to impart bright yellow to greenish yellow color .Turmeric extract was obtained from rhizomes of curcuma longa L. by extracting the powder with different solvents. In case of curcuma extract, the colouring matter is the curcumin.

Early life exposure to Pb altered the cholinergic, aminergic and antoxidant systems, associated with motor functions of developing and young rats. These impairments in motor functions and neurochemical parameters (cholinergic, aminergic and mitochondrial antioxidant enzymes) remain for long after Pb exposure has stopped. Supplementation with calcium reversed the Pb induced neurotoxicity by modifying the motor functions and restoring the specific enzyme activities and neurotransmitters. Adequate calcium intake will be beneficial to reduce Pb induced neurotoxicity during development of rat brain.
