Although Physical Education (PE) offers potential solutions to many chronic health issues, literature suggests that numerous students have been “turned off” to physical activity because of negative PE experiences. Considering that the ultimate goal of PE is the realization of a physically fit society and that the majority of PE teacher education students come from athletic backgrounds, a major challenge of PE teacher education programs should be converting these athletic and competitive pre-service teachers into teachers of all children. An Empathetic Approach to Physical Education Teacher Education examines effects of an affective-focused educational intervention on college-level physical education teacher education students. A quantitative pre-post quasi-experimental design with control group measured changes in pre-existing empathy levels among participants. Significant findings were demonstrated in experimental groups after a semester-long educational intervention. Analysis of reflective essays suggested a change in experimental subjects’ personal view of PE toward an empathetic approach. Study strengths, weaknesses, and implications for future research are discussed.

Physical education teaching and learning efforts obviously target the student. Like parents, teachers, administrators and any other directly or indirectly involved parties, students do have opinions based on their experience on their respective physical education classes and physical education in general. These opinions, or so-called attitudes, are important to research due to their potential of giving insight to the learner's perspective, which may also serve as an authentic feedback from the student. This study investigated German secondary school students' attitudes toward physical education. Results have the intention to reveal what attitudes towards physical education German students have and which factors influence these attitudes. The study sample contained students from the different school types Gymnasium, Realschule, and Haupt-/Werkrealschule. The students were surveyed via questionnaire that was developed based on validated research instruments from prior studies in the field. Data was analyzed integrating independent variables such as students' gender, physical education grade, grade point average, body mass index, socioeconomic status, type of school, citizenship, and the exercise and physical activity behavior of students, their parents and their peers.

With the increase in sedentary lifestyles adopted by children and the neglect of primary school physical education, there is need for teachers to engage in effective teaching of physical education. One of the measures of success of a curriculum in schools is the learning which takes place. This success is accentuated by the training and supervision that teachers receive in teacher training colleges before they graduate. This will equally improve on their delivery of physical education instruction when they qualify to teach in schools. This will ensure that they inculcate the appropriate knowledge, skills, and attitudes in physical education to the children and as such giving them the opportunity to understand the importance of engaging in regular physical activity in order to boost their academic prowess, combat obesity and other resultant problems associated with inactivity.

Education is an integral part and basis of human life and it is as old as human existence and shall continue function as long as human being lives. The education system which was evolved first in ancient India is known as the Vedic system of education. It was followed by Brahmanic and Buddhist Education. In 712 when Mohamed Bin Kasim invaded India, he brought with him the Muslim influence and this can be seen as the beginning of the Muslim Period. Many Madrasas and Maktabs were established, primarily to teach the religion of Islam. During the Muslim period, education made great progress since most of the kings and in particular Akbar saw education as secular and were dedicated to the cause of education.

Free and compulsory education to all children up to the age of 14 is constitutional commitment in India. Universalisation of education in India is viewed in terms of universal access, universal enrollment, universal retention and universal quality of education, all of which plays a crucial role in achieving the goal of universalisation of elementary education. Education For all is the slogan of the day. India is making effort to achieve this. To make India strong we need young Indians to be strong with the power of knowledge. The power of knowledge can be achieved only through education. India had made concerted efforts towards achieving the goal of "education for all" by the year 2000 A.D. But it has not been fulfilled.. Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan is a instrumental project to achieve this long cherished goal of universalisation of elementary education.

All over the world there is increasing importance given by the corporations to social responsibility activities. Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) has redefined the way business is done. Through CSR, companies can contribute immensely in the economic and social progress of a country. In a developing country India, good CSR practices can effect meaningful change. At present India witnesses a paradoxical situation. It’s economic growth is at its best but its rank in the Human Development Index is very low. The main reason for this is the dismal performance of health and education sectors. Companies in India should take up education as a priority CSR issue as it is the key to human, social and economic development ( UNESCO).In this context, this book is very important. This book describes the education efforts of 40 large scale companies in India under their social responsibility umbrella and also highlights approach of these companies towards educational CSR. Universalization of elementary education cannot be realised without enabling the girl-child to access and retention of schools. Today participation of girls is considerably lower than that of boys and drop-out rates are invariably much higher. Education and economic development are not only interrelated but one precedes the other. Education became an engine searching for economic development. A rupee invested in education of the society leads more returns and production and productivities than a rupee invested in physical assets. The basic problem of most of the underdeveloped countries is not poverty of natural resources but the underdevelopment of their human resources. Hence, their first task must be to build up their human capital through the development of education. India is no exception in this mater. The present work concentrates on economic development of the state of Andhra Pradesh through education.

The last ten years have seen the deepening and expansion of the process of internationalization in relation to higher education. This process is multi-faceted and has included the development of education 'brands' as governments and educational institutions become increasingly entrepreneurial in their approach to higher education. The number of students who choose to study abroad has also increased considerably. Although there is a growing academic literature on the internationalization of higher education, students' own perspectives - on their motivations, objectives and experiences - are sorely lacking. Student Mobilities, Migration and the Internationalization of Higher Education, now in paperback, is intended to address this gap. Its strong empirical focus, drawing on case studies of mobile students from East Asia, mainland Europe and the UK, helps to develop an in-depth understanding of both the commonalities and differences in the experiences of students from different parts of the world who choose to move abroad to pursue a higher education. It discusses the implications of their movement for contemporary higher education and for our understanding of migration more generally.

The worldwide education policy is inclusive, majority of people view it as the most conducive setting for learners. However, countries like Kenya are still grappling with segregated approach, where children with moderate and severe disabilities learn in special schools. These schools are still believed to provide adequate "related services" to these children. Practically these services are hard to come to enhance their academic and social participation in schools. Educating children with physical disabilities require a multidisciplinary approach that brings professionals from both academic and medical field for these children to perform at school. This book therefore sheds light on necessity of support services in school performance of children with physical disabilities at school and the role of teachers in coordinating the work of professionals for these children to get adequate services to facilitate their learning. The content will be useful for teachers, administrators in education, students training in Special Needs Education, parents and anyone else who would wish to improve and maintain the delivery of support services to learners with physical disabilities.

What happens to a country when its skilled workers emigrate? The first book to examine the complex economic, social, and political effects of emigration on India, Diaspora, Development, and Democracy provides a conceptual framework for understanding the repercussions of international migration on migrants' home countries. Devesh Kapur finds that migration has influenced India far beyond a simplistic "brain drain"--migration's impact greatly depends on who leaves and why. The book offers new methods and empirical evidence for measuring these traits and shows how data about these characteristics link to specific outcomes. For instance, the positive selection of Indian migrants through education has strengthened India's democracy by creating a political space for previously excluded social groups. Because older Indian elites have an exit option, they are less likely to resist the loss of political power at home. Education and training abroad has played an important role in facilitating the flow of expertise to India, integrating the country into the world economy, positively shaping how India is perceived, and changing traditional conceptions of citizenship. The book highlights a paradox--while international migration is a cause and consequence of globalization, its effects on countries of origin depend largely on factors internal to those countries. A rich portrait of the Indian migrant community, Diaspora, Development, and Democracy explores the complex pol...

Ensuring access to education for the Dalits of India has been the greatest challenge for the Indian government in diminishing the social effects of the caste system, which still remain entrenched in Indian society. There have been many different reasons proposed as to why the Dalits suffer from low rates of literacy and primary education enrolment, but the most realistic one describes history and unequal access as the causes. The ancient caste system of India, which has resulted in the social and economic oppression of the Dalits, continues to play a dominant role in India. The Dalits, also known as the scheduled caste or untouchables, have experienced consistent denial to access to education since the 1850s. This decade coincided with Britain’s established control over India, which meant many of the improvements to Dalit education were coming from outside influences, rather than from the national government.

India Abroad analyzes the development of Indian diasporas in the United States and England from 1947, the year of Indian independence, to the present. Across different spheres of culture--festivals, entrepreneurial enclaves, fiction, autobiography, newspapers, music, and film--migrants have created India as a way to negotiate life in the multicultural United States and Britain. Sandhya Shukla considers how Indian diaspora has become a contact zone for various formations of identity and discourses of nation. She suggests that carefully reading the production of a diasporic sensibility, one that is not simply an outgrowth of the nation-state, helps us to conceive of multiple imaginaries, of America, England, and India, as articulated to one another. Both the connections and disconnections among peoples who see themselves as in some way Indian are brought into sharp focus by this comparativist approach. This book provides a unique combination of rich ethnographic work and textual readings to illuminate the theoretical concerns central to the growing fields of diaspora studies and transnational cultural studies. Shukla argues that the multi-sitedness of diaspora compels a rethinking of time and space in anthropology, as well as in other disciplines. Necessarily, the standpoint of global belonging and citizenship makes the boundaries of the "America" in American studies a good deal more porous. And in dialogue with South Asian studies and Asian American studies, this book ...

The definition of quality education depends upon the subject's perspective. For example, for the students it may stand for the facilities provided to them; for parents it may be the learning outcomes; for teachers it may be the improvement of teaching learning processes; for prospective employers it may be the nature of the output. Secondary education takes a vital part in the formation of active citizens and also plays a critical role in addressing the emerging human development concerns in countries engaged in building knowledge societies to stay connected to the process of globalization. The role of secondary education in the growth of a nation is paramount and significant, more particularly in developing countries. Secondary education is the single largest supplier of labour force in most of the developing countries, including India. In view of the relation between education and economic growth in a less developed state like India, it is not the highly sophisticated manpower but the middle level (secondary) manpower that is necessary for enhancing the economic growth. This study deals with secondary education in Tripura, India. Academicians, researchers and students who are interested in studying secondary education in general and secondary education of Tripura in particular are the target group of this book which will surely help them to understand the problem of quality secondary education in India.

The world has been changing markedly from the physical capital based economy to human capital based economy. Extensive literature is found where the studies have tried to find a link between the educational attainment and process of growth. The Eleventh Plan of India (2007-12) places the highest priority on education as a central instrument for achieving rapid and inclusive growth. In spite of committing to ensure free and compulsory education for the children belonging in the age group of 5-14 years within 10 years from the date of commencement of Indian Constitution (1950), the question naturally arises as - why the goals still remains an elusive subject in India, which is basically discussed in the book. The study is carried out to identify and measure the nature and extent of educational backwardness in India. Special reference has been given to the state of West Bengal and one of its backward district, namely, Uttar Dinajpur. Literacy development and achievement of elementary education have mainly been emphasized. It is expected that the book will be beneficial for the policy makers, educationists and young researches in the specified field.

Create campuses inclusive and supportive of disabled students, staff, and faculty Disability in Higher Education: A Social Justice Approach examines how disability is conceptualized in higher education and ways in which students, faculty, and staff with disabilities are viewed and served on college campuses. Drawing on multiple theoretical frameworks, research, and experience creating inclusive campuses, this text offers a new framework for understanding disability using a social justice lens. Many institutions focus solely on legal access and accommodation, enabling a system of exclusion and oppression. However, using principles of universal design, social justice, and other inclusive practices, campus environments can be transformed into more inclusive and equitable settings for all constituents. The authors consider the experiences of students, faculty, and staff with disabilities and offer strategies for addressing ableism within a variety of settings, including classrooms, residence halls, admissions and orientation, student organizations, career development, and counseling. They also expand traditional student affairs understandings of disability issues by including chapters on technology, law, theory, and disability services. Using social justice principles, the discussion spans the entire college experience of individuals with disabilities, and avoids any single-issue focus such as physical accessibility or classroom accommodations. The book will help readers: Consider issues in addition to access and accommodation Use principles of universal design to benefit students and employees in academic, cocurricular, and employment settings Understand how disability interacts with multiple aspects of identity and experience. Despite their best intentions, college personnel frequently approach disability from the singular perspective of access to the exclusion of other important issues. This book provides strategies for addressing ableism in the assumptions, policies and practices, organizational structures, attitudes, and physical structures of higher education.

Seminar paper from the year 2009 in the subject Psychology - Learning Psychology, Intelligence Research, grade: A, Atlantic International University, course: Master degree Program, language: English, abstract: The Freirean approach to adult literacy education centre on learners' cultural and personal experiences. Freirean was the name for Brazilian educator Paulo Freire, the approach is also referred to as the problem-posing approach (Auerbach & Wallerstein, 1987;Wallerstein, 1983), the psycho-social approach (Hope, Timmel, & Hodzi, 1984; Fargo, 1981), the learner-centered approach (Anorve, 1989), the liberatory approach (Shor & Freire, 1987; Facundo, 1984), and the participatory approach (Jurmo, 1987). It has been used in the developing world in successful native and second language literacy projects sponsored by governments and international voluntary organizations in both rural and urban settings. In the United States, many community-based organizations have used the approach in their nonformal educational programs for developing basic literacy in English, native languages other than English, and English as a second language. Because the Freirean approach goes by a number of different names and Freire's ideas have had such an impact on adult education internationally, there are many literacy educators in the United States who have incorporated elements of the approach into their teaching without realizing that they have been influenced by Paulo Freire. ...

God’s interest in the entirety of our existence and the details of his creation is quite rightly lauded by professing Christians, including those involved in theological education. But what impact does this biblical truth have on the way in which theological education is conducted?Critics are increasingly bringing attention to the shortcomings of theological education in this regard. In this thorough examination of the issue of holistic practices throughout the operations of theological institutions, Dr Jessy Jaison provides sage and actionable solutions where others have merely observed systemic weaknesses. Jaison has applied her expertise and experience of twenty-five years in theological education in India to dissect the issues, diagnose the symptoms and prescribe a way forward that will lead to stronger leaders practicing healthier ministry in God’s Kingdom for those who have ears to hear.

Studying abroad has become a key educational means for preparing graduates with the intercultural competencies needed to succeed in our global economy. The federal government, business community, and higher education sector are united in their belief that study abroad is critical to such success. This monograph seeks to address two fundamental questions: Who studies abroad (or who does not) and why? What are the outcomes of study abroad? Increasing and broadening study abroad participation have proven particularly challenging, and the authors look to the research for how it might be improved. Although research suggests positive outcomes of study abroad, existing studies leave educators with some challenging questions. Based on their review, the authors pose recommendations for ways in which study abroad in the twenty-first century can renew its purposes and fulfill its promise.

Attention! Are you from India and interested in studying abroad in the US, Europe, Australia or Canada? Sick of seeing scholarships only for local residents.Studying in a foreign university in a developed country has long been seen as a gateway to a better standard of living. This is either through the increased knowledge obtained or through the increased job opportunities that result from the knowledge. Universities in Europe, US, Australia and Canada expose all their students to people from different corners of the globe. Students do learn to work with people from different cultural backgrounds as well as learn skills that will make them more employable globally. Of course, it is important that they work hard once they get there and make the right decisions; but they definitely have the opportunity to a better life. However, people from India looking to study abroad have several obstacles that they need to overcome. The biggest burden is the financial one. People from upper middle class and rich families can afford the fees needed for the high grade of education. However, everyone else must scramble. There is the opportunity for graduate research and graduate teaching assistanships. But those who are not able to get these assistanships must rely on loans taken at very high interest rate in Indian banks. Given the cost of foreign education and salaries in India, it is almost impossible to pay off the loan with an Indian salary. So, there is huge pressure to get a job in the c...
