Silver nanoparticles provide effective growth inhibition of various microorganisms in suspensions and on solid mediums. This study found that molecularly caped silver nanoparticles can, in addition to planktonic inactivation, prevent the formation of biofilm as well. The prevention was not by changing the properties of the surface or the environmental conditions as performed by other novel prevention approaches, but by interrupting the bacterial cells.

Anaerobic reactor alone was able to reduce COD (52%), turbidity (89%), EC (24%). Bioreactor was not efficient in meeting NEQs of Pakistan. So, post treatment of Anaerobic bioreactor effluents was carried out in CWs containing macrophytes (Arundo donax and Eichhornia crassipes) reduce COD (89%), turbidity (99%).Wetlands containing algal biomass were not effective in treating majority of water quality parameters. Inhibition of algal biomass was observed due to physicochemical characteristics of wastewater. The integrated treatment system consisting of IC bioreactor and macrophytes is a more suitable option to treat industrial wastewater.

The prevalence and characterization of pathogenic bacteria from fish cultured in ponds fertilized with organic manures was studied. Almost the same type of bacterial species were isolated from organic manures, ponds water and organs of fish. Chicken manure supported more bacterial species as proved by its high total aerobic bacterial count than cow manure. Total aerobic bacterial count differed significantly in different organs of fish in three ponds except in case of liver. High prevalence of Aeromonas sp. was found in all systems except in chicken manure treated pond, where Pseudomonas sp. was higher in percentage. Water and organic manures were the main source of Aeromonas sp, Bacillus sp. and Pseudomonas sp. Chicken manure was source of Proteus sp. and Serratia sp. while Serratia sp. was also isolated from cow manures. Zoonotic pathogens isolated from fish are important from veterinary public health point of view and a broad spectrum research is highly called for. These bacteria cause diseases including haemorrhage, fin rot, skin necrosis, chronic lesions on caudal fin, epizootic ulcerative syndrome and septicaemia in fish.

Inside the two covers, transmittivity of photonic multiple quantum well-constructed using suitable semiconductor heterostructure composition is numerically analyzed by transfer matrix technique. From the result, bandwidth of the proposed photonic bandpass filter is computed under both polarized and normal incidence, and results are compared for identical structural parameters. Conventional photonic crystal is made by SiO2/air combination, and results are also calculated for it. Comparative study reveals the fact that our proposed heterostructure composition is far suitable for bandpass filter design when optical communication at 1550 nm is of prime concerned, and better tuning of bandwidth is also possible. Analysis for photonic crystal fiber is made with SiO2-Air composition for performance study through V-parameter, cladding index and effective mode profiles. Comparative analysis is carried out between these two material compositions which reveal that proposed heterostructure may provide better performance as filter and also efficient in guiding electromagnetic wave. Results will paly critical role in designing optical bandpass filter in future photonic integrated circuit.

Bacterial Leaf Blight (BLB) of cotton is one of the most important diseases causing substantial losses to cotton crop in India. The disease is caused by Xanthomonas axonopodis pv malvacearum (Xam) which is a seed borne foliar pathogen of cotton. Several studies were conducted on the bacterial growth facilitators, varieties of cotton, efficacy of fungicides and antibiotics. Resistance for BLB was screened within 40 varieties, out of which 6 (Lohit, Shyamli, Acala 3080, LD 419, RG 8, CAD 4) were resistant and 10 were found to be moderately susceptible. Culture media studies were performed for the optimum growth of the pathogen, nutrient broth facilitated optimum growth of the bacterium followed by Muller Hinton agar. The efficacy of 12 fungicides was tested against the bacterium. Thiram, Mercuric chloride, Carbendazin with Mancozeb, Bavistin, Captan and Formaldehyde were found effective against Xam. Testing for efficacy of antibiotics implied that streptomycin and chloramphenicol gave optimum results.

Faisalabad is known as a city of textile not only in Pakistan but also all over the world. Several textile processing units are in operation in the surroundings of the city, which are releasing a substantial amount of azo dyes into the wastewater streams in the surroundings of these textile units.The discharge of these contaminants is considered to be a potential threat to the environment because of their hazardous nature. Thus, this study was undertaken to isolate the bacteria possessing high potential to degrade azo dyes from the wastewater discharged by the textile units. A total of 150 bacterial strains were isolated from these wastewater samples using minimal salt medium spiked with Reactive Blue ZBLN azo dye. Results revealed that some bacterial strains were able to decolorize 8 different dyes almost within 6 hours. Thus, the isolated bacterial strains have the potential to remove a variety of dyes from the liquid culture, which could be used to develop a biotreatment strategy for cleanup of the industrial wastewater prior to their discharge into wastewater streams of the surrounding area.

Bacteria used different quorum sensing molecule for communication and these signals molecules are called autoinducer (AI). These autoinducers are produced and released by the quorum sensing bacteria to levels dominating the increasing cell-population density. The attainment of minimal threshold stimulatory concentration of an autoinducer leads to an alteration in gene expression. Both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria are capable of using quorum sensing communication circuits for regulating a diverse array of physiological activities. These activities include symbiosis, competence, virulence, conjugation, antibiotic production, sporulation, motility and biofilm formation. The Gram-negative bacteria use acylated homoserine lactones as autoinducers, while Gram-positive bacteria use processed oligo-peptides to communicate. In the field of quorum sensing revealed, cell to cell communication via autoinducers both within and between bacterial species. The establishment of enormous data in this field suggests autoinducers acquiring specific responses from host organisms. The work's duration is twenty-one-and-a-half minutes.The design of these materials, which incorporates the form, harmony, rhythm and orchestration, applies an approach to musical semiotics informed by the philosophical doctrine of Thracian Oral Orphism, as well as by medical research on terminally ill cancer patients. The author defines two types of musical signs, the event-type and the process-type, and decides upon a musical realization thereof at the formal and structural levels. In the composition, the signs are organized as musical symbols that portray the gradual transition between the types of music symbolizing health - 'A' - and sickness - 'B' - represented by types of harmonic, rhythmic and orchestrational treatment.

Microbiota-associated pathology can be a direct result of changes in general bacterial composition, such as might be found in periodontitis and bacterial vaginosis, and/or as the result of colonization and/or overgrowth of so called keystone species. The disruption in the composition of the normal human microbiota, or dysbiosis, plays an integral role in human health and human disease. The Human Microbiota and Human Chronic Disease: Dysbioses as a Cause of Human Pathology discusses the role of the microbiota in maintaining human health. The text introduces the reader to the biology of microbial dysbiosis and its potential role in both bacterial disease and in idiopathic chronic disease states. Divided into five sections, the text delineates the concept of the human bacterial microbiota with particular attention being paid to the microbiotae of the gut, oral cavity and skin. A key methodology for exploring the microbiota, metagenomics, is also described. The book then shows the reader the cellular, molecular and genetic complexities of the bacterial microbiota, its myriad connections with the host and how these can maintain tissue homeostasis.
