Doctoral Thesis / Dissertation from the year 2014 in the subject Business economics - Business Management, Corporate Governance, grade: B, Atlantic International University (Department Of Business Administration, Atlantic International University, USA), course: Business Management, language: English, abstract: This study sought to investigate the impact of leadership styles and business strategy on the organizational performance of Small-Medium Scale Enterprises (SMEs) in the manufacturing sector of Ghana. This had become necessary due to the fact that available literature on the subject matter lacked precision in terms of the specific leadership style and strategy which could better be employed to improve performance in the chosen area of study. A field survey (by means of questionnaires) was conducted in Accra, involving 60 CEOs and Senior managers drawn from 10 organizations, which were randomly sampled for the study. In addition, a time series data from 2008 to 2013 on sales, profits before tax and employment from the 10 organizations were collected to develop performance indices for the organizations. Regression and analysis of variance (ANOVA) were then run to examine the relationship between leadership, strategy and organizational performance. The study revealed that leadership and business strategy statistically and significantly impacted on organizational performance but strategy had the greater influence. Again, transformational leadership style and cost leadership s...

Nonprofit Organizations need strategies to be effective, but the available tools for making strategy were developed primarily for business organizations. This book provides a model and several case studies for Strategy Making in Nonprofit Organizations. The strategy making model modifies the business practices of Strategy-Structure-Systems for the nonprofit context with a focus on Purpose-Processes-People that is more suitable to meet their unique challenges. In this book, the leaders of nonprofit organizations will find ways to better articulate the challenges that their organizations face for communicating with their business partners, donors and employees. As the demand for essential social services is growing and the budgets are declining, leaders and managers in both Nonprofit and Business organizations need the solutions offered in this book. Nonprofit Organizations face an external environment where demand outstrips their ability to meet it. They face competition in raising funds and resources to provide these services. They rely on processes to harness the creativity of their people in delivering to the triple bottom line of economic, social and environmental impact. This book provides a bridge between business and nonprofit organizations.

Bachelor Thesis from the year 2012 in the subject Business economics - Personnel and Organisation, grade: 1,0, LMU Munich, language: English, abstract: IntroductionThere is a growing consensus that companies should promote entrepreneurship within their organizational boundaries. This way, established companies are in a position to preserve and reinforce the innovativeness and flexibility from which many young enterprises benefit. The business strategy pursued by organizations which intentionally engage in various entrepreneurial activities is referred to as a corporate entrepreneurship (CE) strategy. The CE strategy implies the continuous development of new products and technologies as well as the flexible adjustment of internal organizational structures and processes. Thus, the pursuance of a CE strategy generally helps those organizations acting in dynamic business environments to enhance their competitiveness and economic viability. Given that today's business environments are increasingly characterized by "rapid technological evolution, glob- alization, and progressively sophisticated competitors" (Schmelter et al., 2010, p. 716), the CE strategy is recommendable for more and more companies. Nonetheless, although researchers paid increased attention to the field of CE over the last three decades, still little is known about how organizations can consciously stimulate and promote their entrepreneurial activities. Assuming that the activities conducted by organi...

The actionable guide for driving organizational innovation through better IT strategy With rare insight, expert technology strategist Peter High emphasizes the acute need for IT strategy to be developed not in a vacuum, but in concert with the broader organizational strategy. This approach focuses the development of technology tools and strategies in a way that is comprehensive in nature and designed with the concept of value in mind. The role of CIO is no longer «just» to manage IT strategy—instead, the successful executive will be firmly in tune with corporate strategy and a driver of a technology strategy that is woven into overall business objectives at the enterprise and business unit levels. High makes use of case examples from leading companies to illustrate the various ways that IT infrastructure strategy can be developed, not just to fall in line with business strategy, but to actually drive that strategy in a meaningful way. His ideas are designed to provide real, actionable steps for CIOs that both increase the executive's value to the organization and unite business and IT in a manner that produces highly-successful outcomes. Formulate clearer and better IT strategic plans Weave IT strategy into business strategy at the corporate and business unit levels Craft an infrastructure that aligns with C-suite strategy Close the gap that exists between IT leaders and business leaders While function, innovation, and design remain key elements to the development and management of IT infrastructure and operations, CIOs must now think beyond their primary purview and recognize the value their strategies and initiatives will create for the organization. With Implementing World Class IT Strategy, the roadmap to strategic IT excellence awaits.

It uses a broad range of innovative indicators and enfolds the overall strategy. Especially, it has extensive implications on human resource processes and its strategic orientation within a company. The development and implementation of a complete BSC is associated with the parallel adoption of a high-performance-work-system and a long-term orientated HR-strategy. With support of the BSC, human resource management becomes a partner with business, which manages its employees as adding value assets and includes HRM in business strategy. HRM gains in importance and makes an essential contribution to the business-wide human resource and organisation development. Empirical results show that it is possible to successfully implement the BSC and the involved long-term orientated HR-strategy in both already long-term and stakeholder orientated enterprises and previously short-term and shareholder orientated companies. Different researchers verified that the implementation of a BSC by simultaneous use of a HPWS is associated with an essential improvement of business performance and development as well as better financial results and higher profitabil...

Strategic planning becomes visual with strategy maps and the tools, techniques, and guidance for turning them into effective action. Developed as a companion workbook to John Bryson's best-selling Strategic Planning in Public and Nonprofit Organizations, Visual Strategy: A Workbook for Strategy Mapping in Public and Nonprofit Organizations, goes beyond making the case for good and effective strategic planning to making strategy visual through effective strategy mapping. Strategy mapping prevents groups of people from talking over one another and going around in circles. It helps people speak and be heard, produce lots of ideas and understand how they fit together, make use of causal reasoning, and clarify ultimately what they want to do in terms of mission, goals, strategies, and actions. Strategy mapping can join process and content in such a way that good ideas worth implementing are found and the agreements and comments needed to implement them are reached. The result is living strategic plans that act as useful guides to action. With detailed examples, actual strategy maps, process guidelines and hand-drawn illustrations, the book will help leaders, managers, students and other professionals see patterns across mission, goals, strategies and actions while helping to identify areas of alignment and misalignment and determine, real time, where elements are needed, missing or not useful in a strategic plan. For leaders and managers of public and nonprofit organizations, facilitators and consultants, professors and students of strategic planning, strategic management, strategic mapping, and public policy, professional development workshops focused on strategic planning and strategy mapping.

Strategic Marketing Management: The Framework delineates the fundamentals of marketing strategy, offers a systematic approach to marketing management, and presents a value-based framework for developing viable market offerings. The theory presented stems from the view of marketing as a value-creation process that is central to any business enterprise. In addition to theory, this book offers a set of practical tools that enable managers to apply the knowledge contained in the generalized frameworks to specific business problems and market opportunities. The information contained in this volume is organized into five major parts. The first part defines the essence of marketing as a business discipline and outlines an overarching framework for marketing management that serves as the organizing principle for the information presented in the rest of the book. We discuss the role of marketing management as a value-creation process, the essentials of marketing strategy and tactics as the key components of a company’s business model, and the process of developing an actionable marketing plan. Part Two covers issues pertaining to the development of a marketing strategy that will guide the company’s tactical activities. Here we focus on three fundamental aspects of a company’s marketing strategy: the identification of target customers, the development of a customer value proposition, and the development of a value proposition for the company and its collaborators. Part Three focuses on...

Pervasive, data is a unique organizational resource, and this distinction warrants its own strategy. Data, representing your single non-depletable, non-degradable, durable strategic asset, is likely also your most poorly leveraged and underutilized organizational asset.Lack of talent, barriers in organizational thinking, and seven specific data sins prevent most organizations from benefiting fully from their data asset investments. Solving these prerequisites will allow your organization to:• Improve your organization’s data;• Improve the way your people use data; and• Improve the way your people use data to achieve your organizational strategy. This method better focuses data and thinking in direct support of strategic objectives. After eliminating necessary prerequisites, organizations can develop a disciplined and repeatable means of improving their data, literacy, standards, and controls using data governance practices. Once in place, the process (based on the theory of constraints) becomes a variant of lather, rinse, and repeat. Several complementary concepts covered include:• An overview of data strategy prerequisites;• A repeatable process for identifying and removing data constraints;• Why data strategy is necessary for effective data governance;• Balancing operational results with capability development;• An objective definition of data-centric thinking; and• Ways to monetize these efforts.

Hardly any other management concept is as overused as strategy, yet at the same time hardly any other concept is as vaguely defined. As a means of escaping the conceptual jumble, this monograph suggests a systems-theoretical definition which makes it possible to sort out the various threads of the strategy discussion. Strategies are “search programs” used for finding the means to achieve previously defined goals. With these, we let classical ideas about strategy confront modern organizational theory, and demonstrate how strategy development in organizations can look beyond purpose-rational constraints.

But rarely: Are we doing the things right? (cf. Kreikebaum et al. 2011, p. 161) So, what is the difference between these two questions? The first one is about the companies' strategy, the second about the implementation of it. As simple as it sounds - it is not! A great strategy or breakthrough technology is only then a competitive advantage, if it is implemented and executed firmly. Unfortunately, most companies fail at this attempt (cf. Neilson et al. 2008, p. 143).A variety of studies has shown that there is a great gap between strategy development and strategy implementation. A study from Corboy & O'Corrbui claim that nearly 70% (cf. Corboy & O'Corrbui 1999, p. 29) of strategic plans are not implemented successfully; different ones say the numbers of failure are even much higher and revolve around 90% (cf. DeLisi 2001, p. 2; Riekhof & Offermann 2006, p. 31).Many managerial books are focusing on the strategy development, the question how to find the right strategy, but not that many face the question how to implement the ideas into practice. As the strategy development processes work well and a vast number of well-tested tools for analysis and development of strategies as well as high-qua...

In the age of „digital natives", people are well-connected on various digital technology platforms and are digital consumers. Digital technologies offer retail organizations new innovative ways to create value by utilizing digital business strategies, processes, and products. This qualitative research study explores the perception of retail strategy experts and decision-makers toward realignment of IT and business strategies considering digital transformation in South Africa. Based on interviews with seven managers and decision-makers in the retail industry, the study reveals that digital technologies have disrupted traditional ways of doing business. The study proposes eight major recommendations, in which retail traders could innovate their business strategy to enhance value creation beyond traditional approaches to retailing. It provides a good starting point for academic research in a domain that is deficient in theoretical and empirical research on the South Africa retail sector, and offers retailing managers a conceptual model to guide them toward a digital business strategy for transient competitive advantages.

Scientific Essay from the year 2011 in the subject Business economics - Business Management, Corporate Governance, The University of Surrey (School of Management ), course: Production and Operations Management , language: English, abstract: INTRODUCTION:The purpose of this paper is to compare and contrast the operations strategy of two 'manufacturing firms' with two 'service' firms and to evaluate the order qualifying and order winning criteria.Operations strategy is one part of an enterprise's overall strategy (corporate strategy, business strategy and operational strategy) and defines the enterprise adjustment concerning "core competencies, capabilities and processes, technologies, resources and key tactical activities necessary in any supply network, in order to create and deliver products or services and the value demanded by a customer" (Lowson, 2001). CONCLUSION:The analysis of two manufacturing (Dell, Zara) and two service firms (Lufthansa, McDonalds) shows the correspondence between the theoretical approach of operations management and current practice. Each company has a whole enterprise strategy that includes the operations strategy. Each industry has different order qualifiers, but no company analyzed was able to be the best in all qualifiers, which supports the theoretical conclusion that fulfilling all objectives simultaneously, is impossible (Skinner, 1969).AUTHOR:Markus Baum is Group Finance Director at a management consulting (Germa...
