Today, coffee is one of the most popular and most consumed beverages worldwide. We studied the effect of different concentrations of coffee on peak expiratory flow rate(PEFR), blood pressure and pulse rate in an attempt to determine some physiological effects of coffee intake. 18 apparently healthy adult males, age range 20 to 30 years, were recruited for the study over a three day period. Varying concentrations (2g, 4g and 6g) of Nescafe Instant Coffee were administered. 2g coffee concentration was given on the first day, 4g on the second day and 6g on the third. The control measurements were taken on the first day of the experimental procedure in all subjects. This study suggests that 2g of coffee does not give maximum cardio-respiratory effects. The peak effect that coffee can exhibit on PEFR and cardiovascular system was seen from 4g coffee concentration; but there was no significant difference when compared with 6g concentration. Only in DBP and PR were significant changes observed when 2g concentration was administered. It further indicates that, mild doses of coffee confer benefits on airflow in the lungs. While higher doses are also beneficial in improving airflow

Agriculture represents 31% of the Rwandan GDP with 87% of the labor force in this sector. Main agriculture products are Coffee, Tea, Pyrethrum, Bananas, Beans, Sorghum, Potatoes and Livestock. Coffee is a major source of rural incomes; it has a strong impact on reducing poverty. Currently, the Rwandan coffee can be estimated at 33,000 ha (82 million plants) grown by 500,000 growers with an average yield of 0.7 tons of green coffee/ha. Our research has focused mainly on the impact of the introduction of specialty coffee on the price chance in the Coffee sector in general and at the Coffee farmers' level in particular. This research shows that the specialty coffee participate in the increase of the farmer income specifically, as actually the price of specialty coffee is now almost double to what it was in 2002, the year in which it was introduced in Rwanda; but also generally it contribute to the increase of the GDP trough the share of Agriculture exports in Rwandan Economy.

The investigation on wheat was conducted with the objective to study variability for spot blotch resistance caused by B. sorokiniana in the wheat germplasm lines and to find out the distribution of resistance across various height and maturity groups. Observations were recorded for disease severity (%) as well as using 0-9 scale. Disease was rated three times i.e. at growth stages 69, 77 and 83 (Zadoks et.al.1974) to calculate AUDPC. Plant height, days to maturity and test weight was also recorded for each genotype. A wide variability for resistance to spot blotch was observed in the wheat lines screened.15 lines were found to have resistant. The proportion of moderately resistant, moderately susceptible and susceptible lines were 47%, 43% and 6% respectively.The useful resistant lines having dwarf stature and early days to maturity were 15. These lines can be exploited in crossing programme to developing spot blotch resistant early maturing lines suited to rice wheat cropping system of NEPZ.Differential reaction was also observed in same line that supported the idea of independent gene control.

A crucial problem for oncologist in treatment of acute leukemia is the characterization of patients who require more intensification of therapy to avert relapse. Although clinical (e.g., age, gender) and biologic (e.g., white blood cell count, immunophenotype, structural chromosomal abnormalities, and gene rearrangements) factors can be used for treatment stratification, none of these prognostic parameters is optimal. A proportion of patients with “low risk” experiences relapse, while others may receive more aggressive treatment than is necessary. Studies of minimal residual disease (MRD) focus at improving the estimation of leukemic burden during treatment. This information provides an indicator of the aggressiveness and drug sensitivity of the disease and guide in the selection of appropriate therapeutic strategies.
