Seminar paper from the year 2012 in the subject Business economics - Operations Research, grade: A, University of Massachusetts Boston, language: English, abstract: Continuous improvement refers to the process in which an organization makes effort to improve its services, processes and products. For the process of continuous improvement to become successful, it is necessary for an organization to have good feedback mechanisms where customers' preferences are evaluated according to the goals that a company has. Organizations use Kaizen principle to ensure success in their operations. These principles introduce continuous improvement in the culture of a company, quality of products and services, technology, safety, productivity and leadership. Using Kaizen system, employees from every level of management are given a chance of suggesting the techniques that an organization can adopt in order to improve its entire operations. Continuous improvements benefit an organization in several ways. One of the benefits of this strategy is that it helps in reducing all the wastes that may be in organization's processes. It also improves the quality of organization's products increasing the level of consumers' satisfaction. Customers' satisfaction focuses on the extent at which consumers are happy concerning services and products that are offered by a particular business. The level of consumer satisfaction is used to assess the efficiency of employees in an organization. ...

Doctoral Thesis / Dissertation from the year 2013 in the subject Sociology - Work, Profession, Education, Organisation, grade: A, , course: PhD, language: English, abstract: The poor, like others, too need financial products and services in order to build assets, manage consumption and mitigate risks. Microfinance, in recent times, has emerged as a powerful tool to provide access to some financial services to the poor. For decades, poverty alleviation has topped the International development agenda. United Nations Millennium Goals state that by 2015 the number of people living in extreme poverty should be half of what it was in 2000. Microfinance addresses the twin goals of financial inclusion and poverty alleviation in a way that builds self-esteem in the individual and self-sufficiency in the institution providing the financial services. Different models have emerged in microfinance delivery based on their clientele, focus area, interest rate, savings linkages, collateral, coverage and organizational/legal structure. With all the successes of the existing microfinance models, the herculean task of poverty alleviation still leaves enough space for innovative models. This study explores the potential of faith-based microfinance in complimenting the efforts of poverty alleviation and also overcoming the weaknesses in the existing models. Faith-based microfinance operate on distinct principles. The purpose of this study is to focus on the functioning of the faith based microfin...

E-commerce has provided companies almost in every industry to introduce new ways of serving their customers. As with any other markets, physical distribution service (PDS) industry experienced an upswing in the adoption of e-services. This study has attempted to find the limitations and enhancing factors of e-commerce usage, the determinants of e-service and PDS quality, and their underlying relationships in business-to-business physical distribution services, particularly in a pharmaceutical wholesale context. This study provides valuable insights for the multi-channel non-retail PDS industries in terms of the reasons underlying customers' channel preferences and the aspects vital for achieving total quality in their services and respective customer satisfaction. Given the increasing role played by technology in shaping business relationships and transactions in this industry, managers need to pay attention to the level of quality associated to their e-services, because just as overall satisfaction with services, e-satisfaction from e-services is also a strong determinant of customers' future relationships with the distributor.

Essay from the year 2013 in the subject Economics - Case Scenarios, grade: "none", , course: PhD, language: English, abstract: Abstract: To reduce inequality in income distribution and reduce the poverty social welfare spending in Thailand particularly on education and health services is regarded as one of the effective instruments. Policy makers agree that public subsidies on education and health produce positive externalities and have spill over effect in the society. This research is designed to analyse the effects of public spending of education and health on income distribution which examine the pre-expenditure and post-expenditure income distribution in Thailand. It follows the benefit incidence analysis (BIA) that is a method of computing the distribution of public expenditure across different demographic groups, such as women and men. The procedure involves allocating per unit public subsidies (for example, expenditure per student for the education sector) according to individual utilization rates of public services. This paper aims at examine who are the real beneficiaries from the government expenditure. The study uses the quantitative method where data are used of 2010. From the benefit incidence analysis on the public expenditure on education it seems that education system is pro-poor and health care system are not pro-poor rather pro-rich. It also examines ESL student attitudes and perceptions towards audio feedback and audio feedback training. Audio feedback is an innovative error correction technique in which the teacher records comments on students' writing and saves them as an audio file. The audio file is then used by the student to revise a piece of writing. Audio feedback training refers to the idea of training ESL students on how to successfully utilize audio feedback in order to reap its benefits during writing revision. Using a pretest and posttest utilizing TOFEL argumentative prompts, the researcher collected writing samples from 39 ESL students studying English at an American accredited university in Cairo, Egypt. The participants were divided into two groups, a control group and an experimental group. Prior to the posttest, both groups were given audio feedback on writing errors pertaining to fluency, accuracy, content, and organization. Master's Thesis from the year 2017 in the subject Psychology - Work, Business, Organisational and Economic Psychology, grade: 62/100, The University of Liverpool, language: English, abstract: To enhance job satisfaction in an organization, it is important to understand how workplace properties influence job satisfaction. Factorial structure models assume that job satisfaction is based on multiple underlying (latent) factors that are not directly measurable. An alternative concept assumes that satisfaction with different job facets adds up to overall job satisfaction. As job satisfaction is dependent on culture, this study examined how the importance of job facets varies across cultural areas and countries within a global organization. An attempt was made to estimate the influence of an overarching company corporate culture on job satisfaction in different national cultures. The Minnesota Satisfaction Questionnaire (MSQ) was used in eight countries in Europe, East Asia, Latin America, and North America. Five MSQ-items were conceptually attributed to the overarching corporate culture of Roche, a global pharmaceutical company. Exploratory factor analysis was used to examine latent factors. Also, stepwise regression analysis was performed to identify the predictors of job satisfaction based on statistical significance. The average levels of job satisfaction were high. Within an overall picture of high variability in factor solutions, there were ten MSQ-items loading relatively ...

Poverty is an issue that effects society as a whole and thus a thorough approach must be used to alleviate this issue. This is because poverty is a highly diverse phenomena. Within poverty, urban poverty is becoming an increasingly important issue to attempt to solve, because of the growing urbanisation which is occurring across the globe. This urbanisation will place further pressure not only on the environment but also the urban infrastructure and institutions. Using a sample of 71 Officers in the State of Maine, the author conducted a series of tests including use of a simple demographic survey, the Occupational Stress Inventory- Revised (OSI-R), the Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI), and the Minnesota Satisfaction Questionnaire (MSQ). Results showed a significant correlation between both job stress and job satisfaction, and job stress and burnout, demonstrating a need for facility administration to have means available to help Officers cope with, and reduce, occupational stress. This thereby would increase the likelihood that Officers would remain at their respective Correctional Facility longer and be happy with their working conditions.

The paper begins with a PEST analysis of the European airline industry and focuses on technological changes. It continues with a SWOT analysis of Lufthansa, where we interlink mobile technology as a platform which could reduce costs for the airline. In-depth research on mobile services and their impact on the interaction between airlines and passengers is performed by evaluating different mobile services along Lufthansa's value chain, namely the airline's activities in operations, outbound logistics and marketing and sales. We claim that the interaction through mobile services is limited to one-way interaction, where airlines embrace the mobile services to perform cost reduction along their value chain, and neither offer two-way interaction with their passengers nor asking them to co-create the brand or the product. The current wireless mobile services are already offered via the internet, and allow a better and direct service for passengers. Mobile services are necessary for airlines, so they are not seen as out of date, but it does not mean that having mobile services contributes to having a competitive advantage. On the contrary, not having mobile services results in strategic disad...

Beyond the Primary Commodity Trap offers an alternative paradigm for analysing African development from the current "aid and aids" narrative. Taking as its point of departure Africa's failure to extricate itself from over dependence on raw materials and its seeming inability to industrialise, it offers an analysis of the political forces that have shaped and continue to shape Africa's political economy. The book focuses particularly on the endemic poverty in the continent and how it interfaces with politics. Written with the general reader in mind, the book also examines some of the internal dynamics in Africa and how these combine with the continent's history and some other extraneous factors to explain the current conditions of economic poverty and the poverty of leadership in many parts of the continent.

Master's Thesis from the year 2011 in the subject Business economics - Business Management, Corporate Governance, grade: Sehr gut, The University of Surrey (School of Management), course: Business Administration, language: English, abstract: Today, the service sector contributes to a major part of the GDP of the most developed countries, while the share of services of the total export of these countries is comparable low. This constitutes certain challenges for the internationalisation of services. With regard to the use of "country-of-origin effects" (COO), the special service characteristics create challenges for service companies, e.g. by the inseparability of service provision and consumption. When decisions on the market entry options are made and local staff is favoured to expatriate staff, incongruence in the COO facets occurs which is difficult to hide. Based on the research on products, this might reduce COO's positive effects on service consumers' quality expectations (ESQ). In this context, the question arises whether information on training in the company's home country (CTI) can reduce the aforementioned negative effect. In order to examine the existence of these relationships, an online provided self-administered experiment was created. Using a non-probability sample of 100 Germans, respondents were asked to rate two different service examples with regard to the ESQ. Feedback is broken – here's how to fix it to create a highly engaged workplace with high performing leaders and employees Fixing Feedback is not just another management book – it's a smart, refreshing, practical guide to feedback in the workplace. Everyone already knows how important feedback is, and we all know we should be giving it and receiving it regularly – yet we still do it poorly or avoid it entirely. This book shows you how to do it right. You'll learn what exactly constitutes useful feedback, how to deliver it effectively, how to receive it gracefully and how to use it to strengthen yourself, your team and your business. You'll learn critical communication skills that you can put into practice today, and get on track to building a «feedback culture» that results in highly engaged, highly productive employees. The way you communicate dictates how you build relationships and make decisions. It's the difference between being remarkable and being a d!ck. Poor communication is a major force driving feedback into the ground, and it can be extremely costly for the company as a whole. This book shows you how to turn the ship around by making feedback a meaningful – and welcome – part of your everyday workflow and overall company culture. Understand «remarkable feedback», and how it changes people and workplaces Self-assess your communication style and gauge the impact it has on others Deliver meaningful feedback using a set of pragmatic tools and techniques Confront the personal issues that prevent you from effectively receiving feedback Learn what organisations need to drive to create a 'feedback culture' When organisations fail to grasp the importance of investing in their people effectively, employees disengage. Building a meaningful feedback culture, on the other hand, makes your organisation a place where people want to work, want to achieve and want to be the best. It's all about effective communication. This book on stability theory and robustness will interest researchers and advanced graduate students in the area of feedback control engineering, circuits, and systems. It will also appeal to mathematicians who are involved in applications of functional analysis to engineering problems. The book provides a methodology for the rigorous treatment of such inherently feedback aspects of dynamical system design as robustness and sensitivity, just as many researchers are beginning to realize that this type of methodology is mandatory if modern systems theory is to be used to design complicated multivariable and large-scale systems. The main objective of the book is to provide a clear mathematical formulation of the issues that arise in designing feedback systems that are robust against the destabilizing effects of unknown-but-bounded uncertainty in component dynamics. It is the first study to identify formal methods for the quantitative analysis of multiloop feedback system robustness. The view that is presents of nonlinear, multiloop feedback system stability theory is unique, lucid, and conceptually appealing. Lyapunov and input-output stability theories are unified in a new and simple geometrical perspective based on the topological separation of spaces. This perspective greatly facilitates visualization of the underlying conceptual issues in stability and robustness theory and serves to motivate specific results concerning the robustness of feedback systems.Potentially, this met...

A comprehensive guide to implementing SAE methods for poverty studies and poverty mapping There is an increasingly urgent demand for poverty and living conditions data, in relation to local areas and/or subpopulations. Policy makers and stakeholders need indicators and maps of poverty and living conditions in order to formulate and implement policies, (re)distribute resources, and measure the effect of local policy actions. Small Area Estimation (SAE) plays a crucial role in producing statistically sound estimates for poverty mapping. This book offers a comprehensive source of information regarding the use of SAE methods adapted to these distinctive features of poverty data derived from surveys and administrative archives. The book covers the definition of poverty indicators, data collection and integration methods, the impact of sampling design, weighting and variance estimation, the issue of SAE modelling and robustness, the spatio-temporal modelling of poverty, and the SAE of the distribution function of income and inequalities. Examples of data analyses and applications are provided, and the book is supported by a website describing scripts written in SAS or R software, which accompany the majority of the presented methods. Key features: Presents a comprehensive review of SAE methods for poverty mapping Demonstrates the applications of SAE methods using real-life case studies Offers guidance on the use of routines and choice of websites from which to download them Analysis of Poverty Data by Small Area Estimation offers an introduction to advanced techniques from both a practical and a methodological perspective, and will prove an invaluable resource for researchers actively engaged in organizing, managing and conducting studies on poverty.

Worldwide child and youth poverty and deprivation remain the biggest barrier to achieving a better life in adulthood. Progress in lifting children out of poverty in the last decades has been slow and limited in the developing world, while the recent global economic crisis has exacerbated child poverty, youth unemployment, and social exclusion in many developed countries. By critically unraveling the long-term consequences of growing up poor, the close linkages between multiple deprivations and violation of human rights in childhood and adolescence, and their effects on labor market entry and future career in a number of developing and developed countries, this book significantly enriches the existing literature. Drawing on multiple disciplinary perspectives, it makes a forceful case for the eradication of child poverty to take center stage in the Sustainable Development Goals.

When one considers that teachers would not normally introduce a new topic in their lessons unless they are certain previous ones have been understood, and that students cannot progress with their work without being certain they are doing the right thing about on-going work, then the necessity for assessment and feedback of results need not be overemphasised. This book reports research on the feedback systems of a secondary school in the United Kingdom. It examines the mechanisms the school uses to give information to parents and students about students' academic work and conduct; It also discusses feedback categories in teachers' verbal classroom utterances and written comments as well as pupils' skills and behaviours forming the basis for assessment and reporting. A descriptive study into feedback forms teachers deploy will be of high informative value not only benefitting the school investigated - thereby enabling practitioners to reflect and improve on their classroom practice - but, crucially, enabling other schools across the UK and elsewhere to compare their own assessment feedback provision systems with those investigated and reported in this book

There is debate on whether protected areas help in poverty alleviation or are instead poverty traps. In this study, the impact of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park in south-western Uganda on local incomes and livelihoods is assessed. The study also seeks local perceptions on collaborative natural resource management scheme. Data was collected from a stratified random sample based on proximity to the park boundary. Proximity to the park negatively affected access to social services. Dependence on park income was not influenced by proximity but by membership to a resource user group. Dependence on park income had a negative effect on total household income and due to the small allowable quotas to park resources. Park income had a small income equalising effect. There were concerns over park related damage of crops and failure for compensation by park management. As a result it is concluded that BINP has enormous potential to benefit local people but real local benefits remain a distant reality yet the costs associated with the existence of the park are having a heavy toll on local people.

However, what these programmes lack is an efficient monitoring system to track progress from poverty alleviation interventions. This work establishes a customized baseline poverty profile that will serve as a reference point for monitoring Poverty Reduction Strategy (PRSP).This work is especially suitable for developing countries that have devolved decades of Central Administrative Controls to Local and District Councils. Over the years, monetary parameters were used to assess rural poverty. This work uses non-monitoring indicators grouped into demographic, basic needs, assets, means of livelihood, social services and empowerment structures to determine poverty status of the population in an effort to evaluate the impact of development initiative. The analysis of this work should help local and district council officers to address the central issues in their effort at poverty alleviation. Tackling Poverty with Social Funds explores a strategy that engages citizens in small-scale projects designed to address public poverty issues, improve community living standards, and enhance the quality of life. The book focuses in part on citizen participation and social capital, analyzing the extent to which a social fund prepares a community to meet its own needs and solve its own problems. Marked by a rich, detailed description of stakeholder involvement in community-driven development, the book offers interesting insights into the character of civic and social life in local communities. It makes a compelling case for an integrated approach to development based on partnerships among the state, private sector, and civil society. Building services refers to the equipment and systems that contribute to controlling the internal environment to make it safe and comfortable to occupy. They also support the requirements of processes and business functions within buildings, for example manufacturing and assembly operations, medical procedures, warehousing and storage of materials, chemical processing, housing livestock, plant cultivation, etc. For both people and processes the ability of the building services engineering systems to continually perform properly, reliably, effectively and efficiently is of vital importance to the operational requirements of a building. Typically the building services installation is worth 30-60% of the total value of a contract, however existing publications on design management bundles building services engineering up with other disciplines and does not recognise its unique features and idiosyncrasies. Building Services Design Management provides authoritative guidance for building services engineers responsible for the design of services, overseeing the installation, and witnessing the testing and commissioning of these systems. The design stage requires technical skills to ensure that the systems are safe, compliant with legislative requirements and good practices, are cost-effective and are coordinated with the needs of the other design and construction team professionals. Covering everything from occupant subjectivity and end-user behaviour to design life maintainability, sequencing and design responsibility the book will meet the needs of building services engineering undergraduates and postgraduates as well as being an ideal handbook for building services engineers moving into design management.

Scientific Study from the year 2018 in the subject Economics - Finance, grade: 12, , language: English, abstract: The issue of service quality has been at the center of the ongoing academic and business interest since the late 1970s. Of course buyers have always been concerned about quality, but increasing competition in the current markets of many services has made consumers more selective in the service they choose. The study focuses on banking services, their quality and customer satisfaction in the banking system: as a case study, services provided by banks in Shkodra have been taken. For the realization of the study a complete analysis was used based on the data collected from the questionnaire with the clients of the commercial banks operating in Shkodra. The data provided by the questionnaire analyzed the real level of banking services in Shkodra. These services are seen in terms of their diversity as well as the level of quality of services they offer to attract the customer. The study also highlights the gaps that these banks have in their services under contemporary conditions. The purpose of this study is to confirm the theory that banks should do more to perceive the customer about the quality of services. Banks try to provide modern services, but the most important is to identify and perceive customer needs about services because what may be good for the bank may not be the good for the customer.
