Doctoral Thesis / Dissertation from the year 2014 in the subject Computer Science - Miscellaneous, grade: 2,0, Technical University of Darmstadt, language: English, abstract: Envision the future disaster recovery worker relying on mobile devices to work in a disaster setting. This recovery worker requires and benefits from a great number of provided services, for instance, to navigate, communicate, and map the environment. However, he faces adverse networking and computing conditions, characterized by the obstructed or destroyed geographical region, the overloaded or destroyed communication infrastructure, and the density and movement of involved recovery workers. We call such surroundings harsh environments.The present thesis strives to enable recovery workers to consume versatile (cloud) services on top of a resilient communication infrastructure. A service is a software component, i.e., an application, that provides a distinct functionality to accessing users. Thereby, three key challenges have to be faced that also define the three fields of research: (1) improving the resilience of the communication infrastructure, (2) designing a system capable of service provision, and (3) conceiving detailed simulation models and tools to investigate such systems in harsh environments. In each field of research, we contribute and evaluate novel approaches that work together to achieve the main goal of this thesis: mobile service provision in harsh environments.

However, rainfall is the only source of water the spatial and temporal variation of which is very high. Therefore conservation and management of this source is vital for agriculture development and socio-economic uplift of the area. This study was, mainly, devised to address land distribution problems and consequent farm productivity in the study area. Furthermore, level of land distribution disparities was focused on to observe its relationship with different on-farm and socio-economic indicators including gross margins, cropping intensity crop diversity, income distribution disparities and institutional credit availability etc. All of the aforesaid indicators were also assessed for small, medium and large farm size categories. The farmers were divided into two main categories irrigated and rainfed farmers. Land was observed evenly distributed in irrigated area while land distribution was found most skewed in rainfed area. The performance of most of the indicators i.e. yield, gross margins, farm income, labour productivity, income distribution, cropping intensity and crop diversity was found better in irrigated as compared to rainfed. The levels of agriculture and socio-economic development worked out by using the Z score technique. This study examines what a situation is like and explaining how it got that way, and goes on to predict where it is going next and what should be done in response.
