The second research question provides a closer examination of the composition, the details and the evolution of trade policy between the EU and developing countries. Therefore, the second chapter will address the sub-question: How has trade policy and development cooperation of the EU with the developing country manifested itself, and what are the circumstances under which the trade regimes of the EC towards developing countries have come into existence?Based on a better understanding of EU trade policy, the effect of EU trade on developing countries will subsequently be analyzed. The question that underlies the third chapter is: Have the trade policies of the EU contributed to the external constraints which hamper the development of developing countries?

The possibility of tapping into the non-conventional financial system has been accelerated by contemporary information and telecommunications technology like mobile telephones and mobile network platforms. Therefore, banking the unbanked still remains an attractive business opportunity, especially in emerging and developing regions like South America, Asia and Africa because a great percentage of the population in such regions can afford a mobile phone but not a bank account. Riding on the mobile telephone and network technology, a non-conventional financial system has emerged which does not rely on the traditional banking infrastructure but relies on different platforms in a complex business ecosystem. However, this ecosystem appears to be in a state of flux and presents different business opportunities and challenges that can potentially stimulate emerging and developing economies like Zambia.

The author studied the relationship between parental involvement and academic achievement in language arts and math and the extent to which parental involvement helps predict language arts and math achievement among elementary school students. In a quantitative, non-experimental study using a descriptive, correlational research design with multiple linear regression analysis, she found a significant relationship between achievement in language arts and mathematics and parental efficacy. The study population was comprised of parents of 4th-, 5th-, and 6th-grade students in 3 elementary schools in a working-class urban New Jersey school district diverse in ethnicity and language and high in poverty. She found significant relationships between parenting skills and parental efficacy and student achievement in language arts and mathematics. As parenting skills and parental efficacy increased, the level of student achievement in both subject areas also increased. Social networking was also found to correlate with higher student achievement.

Thesis (M.A.) from the year 2010 in the subject Communications - Intercultural Communication, grade: Distinction, Anglia Ruskin University, course: Language, Identity and Policy, language: English, abstract: Assessment of the Language Education Policy in Austria and its Fitness for Purpose within the European UnionThe EU language policy, which is directly linked to the EU language education policy, has been constantly developing since the establishment of the EEC more than fifty years ago (Treaty of Rome, 1957). The Council Resolution of 31 March 1995 on improving and diversifying language learning and teaching within the education systems of the European Union made it clear that in language learning and teaching, as in education in general, the principle of subsidiarity applies. In this respect, this work examines the existing Austrian language education policy regulations and the country's educational practices, in the light of the EU language education policy, focusing on the groups of Austrian nationals with German as their first language, non-indigenous minorities and Austria's officially recognised autochthonous ethnic groups. The question of whether Austria adequately prepares pupils for the purposes of a multilingual social and economic interaction within the EU is equally considered. An up-to-date insight into the minority language education practice of a Burgenland-Croatian ethnic sample group is delivered, based on data obtained by self reporting questionna...

Most of the developing countries are characterized by a weakness of human assets and are the most economic vulnerable in the world and yet these issues have a strong bearing on the success of e- government implementation in developing countries. In most of the developing regions where English is not the native language, availability of relevant and accessible content and the digital literacy are major issues. More than half of the population are below the poverty line or lives on less than $1.25(PPP) per day. Only 21.1% of the developing countries population use internet, compared to 71.6% of internet usage in developed countries. This study investigated the influence of income, education, ICT Infrastructure and electricity to e-government implementation in developing countries and concluded that the level of Income, Education and access to ICT Infrastructure affects citizens’ demand for e-government services whereas access to electricity doesn’t. We therefore propose customer segmentation as a good framework for e-government implementation in developing countries basing on situational analysis of developing countries and different existing approaches to e-government implementation

It presents possibilities about the principles of acquiring German as a foreign language, then gives explanations about the language behavior of the students of German language, as well as the opportunity to explore different translation options, thus developing their sensitivity to language issues. The aim of this research is to help foreign language students of German in Macedonia to get acquainted with the main terminology and basic terms in this field of research and to become independent readers, learners and explorers in this field. It also provides ideas for small-scale research and gives an introduction to students about the techniques and different instruments how to conduct a research project on contrasting German and Macedonian. Seminar paper from the year 2014 in the subject Economics - Other, Wollega University, course: economics, language: English, abstract: The failure of the Seattle ministerial meeting of the World Trade Organization (WTO) to launch a new round of multilateral trade negotiations brings into sharp focus the increasing divide between developed and developing countries in their respective agendas for reforming the international trading environment. The developing countries need a genuine and well-defined agenda for moving the reform process forward. While there is no unanimity among developing countries with regard to the particular items that belong on the agenda, there are common areas of interest that are different from the agenda of the developed countries. This essay attempts to set the background for a new round of multilateral negotiations, though it may take place later than was thought possible on the eve of the Seattle meeting (Rajapatirana, 2000)The 1980s saw nearly all the developing countries reform their trade regimes, improve their economic performance, and provide increased access to exports from developed countries. Many developing countries joined the WTO, and many others are now waiting in the wings to join. The 1990s saw a continuation of the reform trend of the 1980s, despite a few pauses such as the 1994 payments crisis in Mexico and the East Asian crisis that began in 1997. The implementation of the Uruguay Round of multilateral trade negotiations since the m...

Conventional energy resources like oil, coal and gas are finite and the consumption of fossil fuels increases every year along with improvements in the quality of life, industrialization of developing nations, and an increase in growth of the world population. As a counteract to the forthcoming problem of energy shortage the countries put their focus on renewable energy sources. While the industrialized countries concentrate their investment on wind and solar energy technology, the developing countries put their focus on hydroelectricity. The book will therefore take a loo at one of the rising countries in South America, Chile, and California, as a green energy policy model. The focus will be laid on comparing and contrasting the development of conventional and non-conventional hydroelectric energy in Chile and California. Thus the book takes a closer look at the development and growth of renewable energy sources in both regions and of hydroelectric energy generation in particular, the concept of sustainable development, it gives a brief historical overview of dam building and will more closely examine the electricity and water market, as well as the environmental policy of Chile and California. In the end it will show the similarities both regions share and answer the question if Chile can learn from California.

This book presents a paradigm for developing the Natural Language Interface (NLI) for databases. The goal is to replace the Structured Query Language (SQL) with natural language for database communication and analysis. Natural language Interface facilitates the user to ask the query in natural language and retrieves the data from the database. Natural language can be English, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, and Bengali or any other language. Therefore, system is language neutral and user can use the system in his native language query. Learning additional SQL bring the cognitive load to the users and simple NLIs like the one proposed in this book can be viable alternatives. The proposed NLI system will consist of several modules such as Input, Tokenizer, Query Mapper, Query Builder, Query executer and Output modules. Each module is connected to the next module and gives the intermediate output as input to the next module .This paradigm has been applied to Indian languages therefore proposed system is expected to be useful to novice, nontechnical users who have difficulty in learning complicated SQL commands.

A Fit book for programmers wouldn't make sense because the goal is to create a language for business-oriented team members. A Fit book just for businesspeople wouldn't make sense because the programmers have to be involved in creating that language. The result is a book that should appeal to a wide range of people whose shared goal is improving team communications.

A volume in Contemporary Language EducationSeries Editor: Terry Osborn, University of South Florida Sarasota-ManateeThere is pressure on world language educators to prepare learners with 21st century skills to meet the challenges of an increasingly interconnected globalized world. The need for change was summarized in the 2007 report of the MLA Ad Hoc Committee on Foreign Languages that suggested the implementation of curricular reform by developing students' "translingual and transcultural competence" (p. 3) which allows someone "to operate between languages" (p.237). How-ever, the integration of such a meaningful cultural component in instructed language learning is a complex topic. This book recognizes the difficulty world language educators face to achieve the goals of the MLA report, particularly at beginning levels of instruction in target language use classrooms. Accordingly, this book informs instructed language learning and teaching by bridging developmental theories from the fields of intercultural competence with second language pedagogies-particularly communicative language teaching (CLT) and literacy-based approaches-providing examples of practical applications inside the classroom and beyond. It is intended to support the many FL educators who have consistently reported that they are struggling to incorporate meaningful cultural instruction into their practice (Fox & Diaz-Greenberg 2006; Phillips & Abbott, 2011; Sercu, 2005).This book...

The conventional CBA in highway appraisal as conducted in developing countries using HDM-4 Model assumes VOC as sole benefits to justify road infrastructure investments. VOC in this case depends on the traffic volume available and/or using a particular road. However, for the road to attract traffic the road has to be in fairly good condition. In developing countries most of the potential roads are rural in nature and in fairy bad condition. Traffic volume in these roads are very low. These roads are vital in terms of transport of farm produce to market, improving farm gate prices, and community access to schools, health, trade and social networks. The conventional appraisal methodology therefore underestimates benefits and/or value for money that would have been realised if rural roads were improved. Similarly, the approach deprives development right of rural community who are the key in improving cities livelihood. This paper therefore presents ways of incorporating socio-economic benefits in road investment appraisal using the World Bank recommended appraisal tool (HDM-4) for developing countries.

Bachelor Thesis from the year 2012 in the subject Business economics - Banking, Stock Exchanges, Insurance, Accounting, grade: 1,0, University of Applied Sciences Koblenz, language: English, abstract: This Bachelor Thesis is exploring the Impact of the lately introduced Concept of Creating Shared Value (CSV) on Developing Countries. CSV has first been published in the key article "The Big Idea: Creating Shared Value" by KRAMER and PORTER. It describes a new approach in the relation between companies and societal needs. The implementation of this concept in developing countries with there particular needs, appears to be promising for the revelation of a high-contrast result. The Thesis is starting with the usual introductory part prior to giving exact definitions of the term "Developing Country", CSV and the related concept of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). Hereby, CSV is getting critically discussed. Following is the fundamental methodical instrument, the Case Studies. Three CSV-projects are analysed and their impact on the affected developing countries displayed. The fourth Chapter summarises the outcome of the prior sections and presents the results. The key advantages of CSV are the inclusion of the profit maximisation principle, its accentuated Cooperation between participants and the recognition of Interdependences between the differing areas of impact. Contrary, there is a vast need for further scientific research. The thesis reveals disadvantages...

Bachelor Thesis from the year 2010 in the subject English Language and Literature Studies - Linguistics, grade: 1,7, University of Hannover (Englisches Seminar), language: English, abstract: The paper deals with different types of figurative language and the question of why and how these should be taught in second language teaching. In order to prove that figurative language is essential in communication and therefore needs to receive more attention in schools, I start by analysing and comparing the concepts of metaphors, idioms and proverbs. Many scholars have discussed metaphors and so as to outline the most important aspects, I refer to Lakoff, Johnson, Ortony and Langlotz amongst others. Those aspects will include the differences between novel and conventional metaphors, the different functions that metaphors fulfil and the phenomenon of mixed metaphors. When discussing idioms I focus on their relationship to metaphorical language, the aspect of frozenness and their functions as well as other topics. Here, scholars like Swinney, Skandara and Götz are quoted and their propositions towards idiomatic language are analysed. To end the first part of the paper I discuss the relationship of proverbs to metaphors and idioms and base this part on Norrick in order to focus on didactic content and the issue of distinguishing between a proverb's literal and figurative meaning. After having given the survey of those concepts, I turn to the part of explaining why it is so important to ...

A volume in Contemporary Research in EducationSeries Editor Terry A. Osborn, Fordham UniversityFunctional literacy, cultural literacy, and progressive literacy are just a fewof the many terms one can invoke when attempting to define literacy. From acritical perspective, for a democratic society to exist, a critical literacy is of crucialimportance. Critical literacy aims to empower individuals and transform society. Itis grounded in critical theory and, like critical pedagogy, investigates ways in whichsocial, cultural, racial, sexual, and economic inequalities are reproduced. Byinvestigating the ideological, political, and social structures that perpetuate suchinequalities, it hopes to raise consciousness and move towards creating a moresocially just society. This book examines the approaches set forth by Atwell, Calkins, and Rief in their books, In the Middle(1998); The Art of Teaching Writing (1994); and Seeking Diversity (1992), respectively. This book is ofrelevance to teacher educators and English Language Arts teachers. It enables one to become familiar with themain components of the Readers'/Writers' workshop and develop an awareness of how literacy may beconceptualized and reconceptualized through this approach. Teacher educators will find this text useful forraising preservice teachers' awareness of the ideologies that inform literacy education and in developing theirunderstanding for how students are positioned socially, culturally, politically and econo...

Cortex M3 is one of these designs, recently developed by ARM with microcontroller applications in mind. To conceive a particularly optimized piece of software (as is often the case in the world of embedded systems) it is often necessary to know how to program in an assembly language. This book explains the basics of programming in an assembly language, while being based on the architecture of Cortex M3 in detail and developing many examples. It is written for people who have never programmed in an assembly language and is thus didactic and progresses step by step by defining the concepts necessary to acquiring a good understanding of these techniques.

Altogether there are three volumes, each of which is divided into two volumes. The first two are used in the first semester, the third used in the second semester. The course is divided into three stages: the phonetic stage for developing the pronunciation skills and learning common characters, the grammar stage for developing simple communication skills through conversations, and the lexical stage for expanding vocabulary through essays reading, and developing the ability to express themselves. Grammar, words and sentences are put into the real life situations. The textbook consists of six parts: text, new word, explanatory notes, grammar, pronunciation and exercises, containing 100 texts and 3,300 new words in all. Since the publication in 1999, Chinese Course has been receiving warm welcome from the learners and teachers. To meet the increasing needs for the book, it was revised and published again with the joint efforts of the author and the Beijing Language and Culture Universtiy Press. Based on the original frame, the revised edition reduced the number of lessons from 100 to 76, and the degree of difficulty is lowered to enable it to be finished within one year. Outdate texts are deleted, and the contents are revised to make the book timely. The explanations of language points are also modified, and the order is rearranged to make it more convenient for teaching.

Seminar paper from the year 2009 in the subject Cultural Studies - Empiric Cultural Studies, grade: 1, , course: Senior Research Seminar, language: English, abstract: Do Hamline students get an education to become global citizens? According to its mission statement in the Hamline Plan, the College of Liberal Arts at Hamline University (Saint Paul, MN) is dedicated to preparing its students to "compassionate citizens of the world by helping them maximize their intellectual, creative, and leadership potential". The main research question of this paper investigates if the school realizes its goal by analyzing the second language skills Hamline students can gain or are supposed to gain to become a global citizen. Globalization and the "shrinking of the world" lead to the necessity to speak foreign languages since the peoples come closer. Even with the global dominance of English, a global citizen needs to be prepared to face language barriers gaining more knowledge than just knowing the English language. Second language is considered as a window for citizens to learn about the outside world and is hence a window to see different cultures. This micro-level study explores the exposure of students in private liberal arts colleges in the Midwest in the U.S. utilizing Hamline University as an example. The students of the Certificate in International Journalism and Global Studies majors are the only students required to study abroad to strengthen their second language s...

Bachelor Thesis from the year 2014 in the subject Economics - Foreign Trade Theory, Trade Policy, grade: A, , course: Economics, international trade, obesity, corruption, developing countries, global south, nestle, Pacific Island Nations, language: English, abstract: This research paper was written as my final honors thesis in economics. I was questioning the somewhat sudden high rates of obesity found in many developing countries today. I found several reasons for why obesity has sky rocketed in the global south, finding that most trends leading to obesity derived from the western lifestyle. One significant change between the western world and the developing world is that for the global south the transition to industrialization and development happened at a much faster pace. The sudden modernization has in many places led to extreme changes in behavior and lifestyle. The one trend that reoccured in most developing countries and had the highest effect on obesity rates was the infiltration of food products, mostly from western food corporations. I look at some specific practices made by companies like Nestle and others, as well as looking at behavioral changes in some of the worst hit areas like the Pacific Island nations.
