Scientific Study from the year 2016 in the subject Biology - Zoology, , language: English, abstract: Stingless bees are limited to tropics and subtropics with diversity in species and share morphological and behaviour patterns. Stingless bees are major pollinators of flowering plants in the tropics and improve crop productivity. Trigona iridipennis Smith were kept in India for centuries for the high medicinal value of honey as well as propolis and bee wax. A wide range of variations, especially worker and drone body size and measurement, were reported. Morphometric and geometric analysis provide a valuable tool for the differentiating variations among various honey bees and stingless bees. Based on these back ground, our objectives of this study were 1) to characterize the morphometric aspects of workers in this reported new species of stingless bees and 2) to identify the various similarities and differences existing based on factor and principal component analysis with Trigona iridipennis Smith. An experimental device that simulates a medium-height apartment was set up to provide empirical parameters and model verification at NTUST. A considerable progress has been made in predicting the air pressure distribution within vertical drainage stacks.The third part focuses on a 2-pipe vertical drainage stack for conducting the empirical parameter and evaluation method of air pressure of building drainage systems. Next, the air pressure prediction in 2-pipe vertical drainage stacks from the predicted results of a single drainage stack has been illustrated.The study also conducts the comparison between the measured data and calculated values. It reveals that these prediction and evaluation methods can reproduce the mean air pressure distribution value in a vertical drainage stack. Meanwhile, the prediction method of air pressure in the 2-pipe stack drainage system has been successfully established in the study.

This research was carried out to study the morphometric and molecular differences in populations of Phlebotomus orientalis from three different regions in Sudan. Samples of Phlebotomine sandflies were collected from Gedaref, White Nile and Khartoum States. The specimens of P. orientalis were collected using CDC miniature light traps and sticky paper traps. The sand fly specimens were then mounted on glass slide on Brelese's medium and identified to species level. Then mounted samples of P. orientalis were processed for morphometric measurements of 23 and 29 characters for females and males respectively. Furthermore Cyt b, ITS2 rDNA 18S genes of P. orientalis from different regions were amplified by conventional and Real-time PCR. Amplified samples of Cyt b and ITS2 genes were purified and sequenced. The sequences were assembled, edited, analyzed and then were blasted with the database of the GenBank. Populations of P. orientalis from three geographic areas showed some degree of differences based on both morphometric and molecular analysis.
