Inhaltsangabe:Abstract: This paper was written during my studies at Georgia State University, Atlanta in Fall 2000 in the context of an exchange program between Georgia State University and Technische Universität Darmstadt. Its subject is the new contract law in electronic commerce. The paper starts with an illustration of the situation of legal uncertainty prior to the establishment of a specific contract law in electronic commerce. Many laws governing contract formation were drafted before the existence of electronic messaging and did not adequately address the challenges of electronic transactions. Furthermore, electronic transactions were often hindered by the diversity of state laws. This situation was considered to place some severe legal obstacles to the development of electronic commerce. In 1997, President Clinton and Vice President Gore unveiled their „Framework for Global Electronic Commerce.” This issue defined the main goals for the future development of both domestic and global electronic commerce. The general objective was to establish a „Uniform Commercial Code” for this ascending sector of commerce in order to facilitate and enforce electronic transactions. The legislative efforts to achieve those goals recently resulted in two uniform acts, the Uniform Computer Information Transactions Act (UCITA) and the Uniform Electronic Transactions Act (UETA), and the federal Electronic Signatures in Global and National Commerce Act (E-sign Act). The paper deals with th...

The South Pacific Rim, located in the Oceania region, is now more than ever before being rapidly integrated into the global economy. The forces of globalization, particularly information and communications technology are the driving factors. While the region is very well known as an exotic tourist destination, little is known about its laws and the potential facilitative commercial, trade and investment environment that exist in the region. International procurement and electronic commerce constitute one such important area. This book discusses international procurement and electronic commerce in the context of South Pacific island countries by illustrating the linkages between theory, law and practice. The book adopts a unique approach to discussing these issues by utilizing extensive case-study analyses which focus on internationally executed ICT-based supply and service contracts, as well as construction and works agreements. In addition, detailed treatment is given the UNCITRAL model law for procurement of goods, construction and services by depicting its relevance to Pacific island countries. The book specifically outlines the interconnection between conventional procurement contracts and traditional customary practices- an important consideration because of the impact of local traditions even on the constitutions of countries of the region. Lastly, the book examines the advancement of digital technology and the role this can play in the overall commercial development of...

Doing business in Africa can pose practical challenges to foreign businesses and their lawyers. Apart from the institutional loopholes that could easily be identified within the African business environment, the laws themselves could equally be problematic. The challenge of understanding the context of African business laws such as the OHADA sales law (which maintains a deep rooted connection with French domestic laws) vis-à-vis a more familiar and relatively sucessful uniform sales law such as the Vienna Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods(CISG)inspired this book by Mana Tita. The avoidance or termination of sale of goods contracts typifies the sort of legal problems businesses are bound to face in Africa. So, from a comparative approach, this research endeavor seeks to open the doors of an unassessed academic and practical question on the new OHADA sales law approach on the right of avoidance in comparison to the CISG. Academics and practitioners shall be inspired to re-examine the position of the OHADA sales law as far as the right of avoidance is concerned and to pinpoint the effects it poses on international trade in the African continent.

In the past, many researchers have largely been devoted and scholarly works produced on institutions of conflict management. And a growing concern was recorded on the vitality of customary institutions on the process. However, most were very generalized and found no to explain the case in all areas especially to indigenous people who detached from state encroachment and where customary institutions mark a basis for conflict resolution.Emergence of state institutions to indigenous societies cannot as such directly challenge customary laws and dichotomy was not always to exist. Rather, customary institutions set their set of adaptive mechanisms which sometimes reverse the power relation. Therefore, this book provides a new insight on state-customary relation in pastoral conflict management explaining in terms of their basic essentialities, actual implementation and changes with regimes. The analysis of this work will be important for future efforts to integrated implementation of the formal and customary laws in conflict resolution. It is expected that this book can be used as an important resource for researchers interested in further exploration of the issue under study.

This book examines the traditional mechanisms for conflict resolution in Africa using Igboland in Nigeria as a case study. The seeming failure of modern methods of conflict resolution has reinforced the turn to traditional mechanisms as the people appear to have more confidence in extant methods of resolving conflicts. The conflict between Aguleri/Umuleri communities in Igboland justifies the use of traditional conflict resolution mechanisms giving the elusive quest for peace within the modern conflict resolution apparatus in the post colonial Nigerian State. In the final analysis after over 100 years of dispute, the book argues that it was through the traditional peace process initiated by the Umuada women group and discussion within the village assembly comprising of male folk and final consummation through oath-taking that led to the successful resolution of the conflict.

Therefore, the main reason of conducting this research is to find out the sources of conflict, to identify conflict resolution techniques and to know the positive and negative outcomes of conflict in the organization. Among the factors that accounted for the existence of conflict in the organization, perpetual difference, value difference, modern technology and personality clashes were the most important. The effort of management to understand the existing conflict in the organization is low which implies the weakness of management of the organization in handling conflict. In general, undertaking conflict and assessing conflict management practice is important task for the reduction of problems which exist in the organization.

This book focuses on the Ogoni conflict in the Niger Delta of Nigeria. There exists abundant scholarly materials on the conflict and wide-ranging prognostications on its causes. However, scholarship has been bogged down in controversy over whether economic self-interest or legitimate desire to protect community and environment propelled the conflict. The book seeks to extend scholarship on the Ogoni conflict by testing the analytical utility of a conflict model, Marginalized Violent Internal Conflict (MVIC), to attempts to fully comprehend the nature of the conflict. The author argues that the model, developed by Dan Tschirgi following a study of the Gamaa Al' Islamiyya (Egypt) and the Zapatista (Mexico) conflicts, provides better understanding of the causes and dynamics of the Ogoni conflict.

The Dynamics of Conflict When it was published in 2000, Bernie Mayer's The Dynamics of Conflict Resolution quickly became one of the seminal works in the conflict resolution field. The book bridged the gap between abstract theoretical approaches and practical handbooks and became an immensely valuable and accessible resource for experienced and novice practitioners, as well as for professors and students of conflict management who needed a deep yet practical view of conflict and methods for dealing with it. The Dynamics of Conflict is the second edition of Mayer's classic book. While building on the strengths of the first edition, this thoroughly revised and updated book keeps pace with the most current trends and research in the field and explores four key concepts: interactional dynamics, system dynamics, culture and conflict, and conflict engagement. Like the first edition, the focus of the new edition is on the ways we can productively think about conflict and conflict intervention, rather than on specific techniques and processes. Mayer presents ideas about conflict as a set of conceptual tools that build on one another and contribute to a multifaceted view of conflict and conflict intervention but that also stand on their own. Filled with illustrative examples, the book draws from the author's thirty years of experience with interpersonal, family, community, organizational, labor management, environmental, public policy, and international disputes and includes instances of conflicts that have been in the news. In addition, this vital resource contains information on the most important work that has been done in the past decade on culture, systems, and conflict engagement and shows how conflict concepts apply to new technologies such as online communication and conflict resolution efforts on the Web. In the concluding chapter Mayer explores how conflict intervention efforts fit into more general values about peace, democracy, and social justice, and the personal impact that conflict work as a field has on conflict specialists.

Academic Paper from the year 2017 in the subject Economics - Micro-economics, , language: English, abstract: The basis of the theory of consumer behavior rests upon the theory of demand. Theory of demand begins with the 'law of demand' which states that the quantity demanded of a commodity varies inversely with its price, ceteris paribus (keeping other factors unchanged, e.g., taste, preference, income etc. of the consumer). Now in the theory of consumer behavior, we assume the consumer is a rational individual who wants to maximize her utility from a basket of consumable goods given her income unchanged. This essay / monograph is written by keeping in mind the major objective of bridging the gap between Bachelor's and Master's levels of studies in the field of Economics and specifically in the area of Advanced Microeconomic theory across the world. The important topic of "The theory of consumer behavior" is discussed in detail with all the major sub-topics and critical analyses.

Accordingly, first the concept of cosmopolitanism is introduced. A cosmopolitan consumer is defined as being an open-minded individual whose consumption orientation transcends any particular culture, locality or community and who appreciates diversity including trying products and services from a variety of countries. A corresponding measure, the consumer cosmopolitanism scale, is formulated and validated. Following assessments of the scale's structure, an extensive empirical study provides support for the consumer cosmopolitanism scale's reliability, content and construct validity. A series of nomological validity tests show consumer cosmopolitanism to be moderately predictive of theoretically related constructs. Many large construction projects, such as those in the Middle East or Asia Pacific, are international in scope with a range of contractors and subcontractors signing contracts for delivery of specified work or services. The contractual situation in these instances may be complex and potentially includes a range of standard and bespoke contractual arrangements. In addition, the parties to these contracts may be based in different parts of the world, and are often working to different legal systems and understandings. This can lead to confusion in the understanding, interpretation and execution of a given contract. International Construction Contracts provides concise and practical guidance to those involved in the negotiation and management of international construction and engineering contracts. It sets out in clear, straightforward language the main features of construction contracts and international dispute resolution procedures. It ensures the reader is aware of the issues that might arise on the contractual side of their project so that they may better protect their party's interests. Many of the features and points discussed are illustrated by reference to the popular FIDIC contracts and the book includes a commentary on the two most widely used FIDIC design-build forms, the Yellow and Silver Books. Also included in the book is a fully worked example of a typical ICC arbitration from start to finish, with «pleadings», a detailed case narrative and commentary on events, and an example arbitration award. The ICC and SIAC arbitration rules are also provided. Written for construction professionals, the book will be of great interest to engineers, architects, project managers, quantity surveyors, contract managers and contract administrators working on international projects.

In a time where markets are marked by the exchangability of products, the question is how can marketers create powerful brands in establishing a long-term connection with the brand. The following thesis is seeking to provide empirical support for the determinants of strong brand connections by testing a series of hypotheses using an experimental research approach with 130 participants. The thesis didn't find support for the direct impact of a match between brand-and consumer personality (consumer-brand congruence) on the brand connection. However the findings indicate that the other determinants like involvement, investment and satisfaction with the brand influence brand connection. Involvement stands for the relevance of the brand to the consumer based on his fundamental value system. Therefore if the brand personality incoporates the consumer's own value system, he is more likely to connect to the brand. Furthermore a consumer is more likely to invest in a brand that is closer to his own self and his fundemental value system. Thirdly a consumer that is satisfied with the brand is more like to identify with the brand, leading to a stronger brand relationship. The paper conceptually introduces brand-consumer congruence and the other determinants of the brand connection. Never the less due to its findings it challenges the concept of brand-consumer congruence.

Essay from the year 2006 in the subject Communications - Media History, grade: High Distinction, James Cook University (James Cook University), course: History of Communication, language: English, abstract: The Industrial Revolution was characterized by two intrinsically linked social phenomena. Firstly, a social shift in the transformation of a traditionally agricultural society into an industrial and increasingly urban mass society; secondly, a technological shift resulting in the virtual explosion of the mass production of consumer goods. Towards the end of the nineteenth century these two events, large-scale changes in social structure and mass production, became the basis for the rise of consumer capitalism. This newly generated consumer market was made possible by a steady increase in mass production, characterized by large numbers of diversified goods, often with a built-in obsolescence, which stimulated the process of ongoing consumption. The need for a frequent replacement of commodities, in combination with the striving of urbanised individuals to fill the gaping void within his or her existence that resulted from the demotion of labour productivity in the framework of modern society, gave rise to consumer culture.

Most of us will understand what is commonly meant by organizational conflict and be aware of its existence and effects. Yet conflict is another term which can be defined and interpreted in a number of ways. We can see conflict as behavior intended to obstruct the achievement of some other person's goals. Conflict is based on the incompatibility of goals and arises from opposing behaviors. It can be viewed at the individual, group or organizational level.Conflict is not necessarily good or bad but inevitable feature of organization life. Even if organizations have taken great care to try and avoid conflict it will still occur. Conflict will continue to emerge despite attempts by management to suppress it.Conflict, if it appears, means that the organization is alive. The group tries to solve now and then quite difficult tasks by using different ideas. It can significantly improve the company's performance when it is oriented on the task solving. But it can very quickly move from task to the people and their emotions. In this case the influence of the conflict on the organization may be very destructive. And everyone should realize that.

The problem of Northern Ireland is a struggle for sharing power between the Catholics and the Protestants. The structural and basic reasons of the problem have played a very important role in the evolution of it towards civil war. The most important basic reason underlying it is mutual "distrust" between parties in Northern Ireland. On this regard, some necessary steps are to be taken for the stability of the peaceful environment established after the conflict. The normalization of the society and the making of the relations between groups transparent, constitute the "rehabilitation" process itself. Rehabilitation process ensures the continuation of confidence building in schools, helps with the matter of winning future generations, and also plays an important role in ensuring confidence building in institutions. In sum the subject of this study is addressing the contributions of the rehabilitation as the protection of peace, to the social reconciliation process as formed by the societies living in Northern Ireland; and its continuation by discussing the rehabilitation process with reference to the example of Northern Ireland in the phase of transforming conflict. One of the main research questions of this study is to present the contribution of the rehabilitation process on peace within the context of conflict administration. In the first part of this book, the stage of rehabilitation in the development process of conflict administration is discussed. In the ...

Reporting on a foreign war or a crisis is a challenging activity, a true professional test for a journalist. Media is often criticized for promoting violence by its conflict reporting: either by staying detached or by being biased.Peace, or conflict-sensitive, journalism was created for improvement of conflict coverage: it emphasizes the active role of journalists in de-escalation of conflict and encourages them to report on peaceful solutions. This relatively novel approach might be met with skepticism, as it appears too idealistic and demanding to be followed by journalists. In order to verify the applicability of peace journalism, this book presents a comparative analysis of six US, UK and German newspapers on how conflict-sensitive, or at least balanced, they were in their reporting on the Russia-Georgia war of 2008. The content analysis of those six media has demonstrated that the peace journalism approach is not easy to implement into practice due to some imperfections of its models; its parameters need to become more feasible and more specific. The case study has showed that those particular western media were neither conflict-sensitive nor war-oriented in their coverage of the Russia-Georgia war, and thus they kept the in-between stance. Overall, the reporting was balanced, particularly in its negative attitude towards all parties involved in the conflict.

Currently in the third edition, popularly known as NEC 3, it is a process based construction contract embodying project management best practice, and thus the basic philosophy behind the contract is different to the more adversarial principles and approach of other standard construction contracts. Written as a practical guide to the application of the procedures contained in NEC 3, this book will aid users in the transition from their use and understanding of the other standard construction contracts to the collaborative project management based approach of the ECC. Written for anyone working in the construction industry working on a project under the ECC, it will be of interest to the complete construction supply chain including employers, construction professions, contractors and sub-contractors. It will also be of interest to consultants and lawyers advising any of these parties, either in the preparation of contract documentation or the resolution of problem situations which may arise. Seminar paper from the year 2004 in the subject Communications - Intercultural Communication, grade: 2 (B), Hamburg University of Applied Sciences (Economics), course: Intercultural Communication, language: English, abstract: Through the process of globalization, managers often have to deal with people from other countries with different cultural backgrounds. This cultural background includes not only the language; it means a completely different way of feeling, thinking, behaving and as a result also conflict management. Constructive conflict management is a competence which is of particular importance in international management. Furthermore, in an intercultural context, a manager not only needs to know how to handle conflicts in general, but also how his negotiation partners usually deal with them. This is important because the right way to solve a conflict i. e. in North America is not necessarily the right way in Indonesia. When coping with conflicts in international business negotiations, international managers must be aware of the fact that appropriate ways of solving conflicts in Western cultures like North America can very often be completely unacceptable in Asian cultures like Indonesia. The aim of this paper is to analyse typical conflict management strategies in North America and Indonesia, thereby highlighting major differences in appropriate conflict management between them.

How to successfully navigate and prevent conflict From the publishers of the popular Strength Deployment Inventory, Have a Nice Conflict follows one man's fight to rescue his sinking career. Sales manager John Doyle would consider his career a success—he's his company's top revenue driver, and his take-charge attitude gets the job done. However, when he is passed over for promotion—again—after losing two direct reports, who cite his abrasive style as their reason for leaving, John is forced to reassess how he approaches his relationships. With the help of Mac, an expert in the art of Relationship Awareness Theory, John learns the three stages of conflict, and how he reacts in each. Once John recognizes his own values and trigger points, as well those of other people, he becomes able to better navigate terse situations, express his points in a way that resonates for other people, and even avoid conflict altogether. Equipped with this new understanding of how other people interpret and react to conflict, John soon finds all the relationships in his life—both at work and at home—improving. This book studies the representation of identity politics in the Indian Tamil film Kannathil Muthamittal, which deals with the Sri Lankan ethnic conflict. Drawing on the influential role of cinema in politics on the Indian subcontinent, and the perceived shared identity of the Tamil communities in Sri Lanka and India, the book researches the film in relation to the conflict. It discusses the differences in conception of the Indian Tamil identity and the Sri Lankan Tamil identity (in the film), and argues that the Indian Tamil is represented as politically and culturally superior and more empowered than the Sri Lankan Tamil. Using existing literature on identity formation and the socio-cultural history of Tamil identities of Sri Lanka and India as a reference point, the representation of the two Tamil identities in the film are analysed.

These concepts include focus, meta-cognition, habits, universal laws, and more. Since history is largely looked at as just being in the past, other sections in this half will explore certain historical events and question the effects they have had on some demographics and classes. The second half of this book will seek to explore consumer industry markets that will change and shape common day life in the next decade. Projects in the fields of virtual reality, automotive, and wearable technology are all explored. Along with consumer markets, the actual consumer of the next decade is explored as well as the BRICs nations and the eventual globalized economy. Essay from the year 2008 in the subject Politics - International Politics - Topic: Peace and Conflict Studies, Security, University of Birmingham (International Development Department- School of Public Policy), course: Conflict, Humanitarian Aid and Social Reconstruction , language: English, abstract: This paper illustrates the meaning of peacebuilding as a comprehensive sustainable process that aims at resolving the conflicts, which spread widely in the post Cold War era within different nations and among them. Peacebuilding as a sustainable process requires the intervention of different actors at the local, national and international levels and requires the cooperation between them to coordinate their roles in the post conflict situation. This paper also discusses specifically the role of NGOs as one of these important actors in the international community and the different actions that carried out by them that help in providing a healthy environment for sustaining peace and development at the same time. However, linking peace with aid by NGOs in most of the cases added more damage in the targeted post conflict countries instead of depleting it. Discussed within are the challenges that have been met by different NGOs at different levels when trying to incorporate peacebuilding into development and while intervening in the field.

But when is a nation justified in going to war? And how far can it go in inflicting damage on an enemy? What weapons can be developed and stockpiled? What is the proper treatment of civilians, detainees and POWs? "The Laws of War" features extensive excerpts from treaties and authoritative judgments to answer these and other questions. The result is a unique and comprehensive reference work on global problems ranging from terrorism and guerrilla warfare to the prosecution of war crimes. Documents include: The Charter of the United Nations, The Hague Convections, The Geneva Conventions and Protocols, The Nuremberg Judgment, Israeli commission of inquiry into the events at the refugee camps in Beirut and an investigation of alleged war crimes in the former Yugoslavia.

Conflict Resolution holds the promise of freeing approaches and policies with regard to politics of identity from the fatalistic grip of realism. While the conceptual literature on identity and conflicts has moved in this alternative direction, conflict resolution practice continues to rely on realist frames and acts as an unwanted auxiliary to traditional International Relations (IR). Perpetuation of conflict discourses, marginalization, and exclusion of affected populations are widespread. They are caused by the over-reliance of conflict resolution practice on the binary frames of classic IR paradigms and also by the competitive and hierarchical relationships within the field itself.Philip Gamaghelyan relies on participatory action research (PAR) and collective auto-ethnography to expose patterns of exclusion and marginalization as well as the paradoxical reproduction of conflict-promoting frames in current conflict-resolution practice applied to the Nagorno-Karabakh and Syrian crises. He builds on the work of post-modernist scholars, on reflective practice, and on discourse analysis to explore alternative and inclusive strategies with a transformative potential through reflections and actions customary for PAR.The IR discipline, that has dominated policy-making, is only one possible lens, and often a deficient one, for defining, preventing, or resolving contemporary conflicts wrapped in identity politics. Other conceptual frameworks can help to rethink our understanding of...

With the introduction of the Internet, consumers are relying heavily on the media for content. The popularity of consumer-generated content (CGC) has captured the consumer (i.e., user) as the producer, which has cause a power shift in the market from the companies to the consumers. When technology is paired with culture, it is inevitable that consumers are constantly changing their attitudes toward consumption to adapt to current trends. Thus, marketers are meticulously looking for information to keep current with the consumer market in order to maintain their market share. CGC relates closely to electronic word-of-mouth (eWOM) and can be found in various online review sites, forums, blogs, company websites, as well as on social media platforms. Consumers' contribution toward the content on the different digital media sites (including company's website) is on voluntary basis, either paid (e.g., sponsored) or nonpaid (e.g., personal blogs). It is evident that information that is published online travels faster to consumers than when delivered through traditional media such as television. Companies are therefore trying to be proactive; and as part of their promotional efforts, they are turning to online media for the latest information on their target market, feedback on their company (e.g., criticism, praises), as well as information on their competitors. The goal of this book is to educate business owners, marketing practitioners, students, as well as marketing resear...

Years of Conflict. Adolescence, Political Violence and Displacement

Recent years have witnessed a significant growth of interest in the consequences of political violence and displacement for the young. However, when speaking of "children" commentators have often taken the situation of those in early and middle childhood as representative of all young people under eighteen years of age. As a consequence, the specific situation of adolescents negotiating the processes of transition towards social adulthood amidst conditions of violence and displacement is commonly overlooked. Years of Conflict provides a much-needed corrective. Drawing upon perspectives from anthropology, psychology, and media studies as well as the insights of those involved in programmatic interventions, it describes and analyses the experiences of older children facing the challenges of daily life in settings of conflict, post-conflict and refuge. Several authors also reflect upon methodological issues in pursuing research with young people in such settings. The accounts span the globe, taking in Liberia, Afghanistan, South Africa, Peru, Jordan, UK/Western Europe, Eastern Africa, Iran, USA, and Colombia. This book will be invaluable to those seeking a fuller understanding of conflict and displacement and its effects upon adolescents. It will also be welcomed by practitioners concerned to develop more effective ways of providing support to this group.Jason Hart is a Senior Research Officer at the Refugee Studies Centre, University of Oxford.

Diploma Thesis from the year 2005 in the subject Psychology - Work, Business, Organisational and Economic Psychology, grade: 1, University of Vienna, 110 entries in the bibliography, language: English, abstract: Different motivation tendencies, aspirations and fears connected to the same action quite often happen to contradict each other. A person looks at the positive (= approaching) and negative (= avoiding) sides when aiming towards a goal or reaching a decision. For example, on the one hand a student wants to go swimming, as it is a nice warm summer day, but on the other hand the student should be studying for his upcoming exam. The student undergoes a conflict about what to do. The following work is based on this special kind of conflict called approach-avoidance conflict. In consumer behaviour literature (cf. Solomon, Bamossy, & Askegaard, 2001), this conflict is often mentioned regarding the general decision of whether or not a certainproduct will be bought. Positive as well as negative aspects of the product are judged and weighted when reaching a decision. Thus, it is assumed that this kind of conflict also occurs in the context of online shopping. Online shopping has both positive as well as negative aspects. It encompasses approaching (where beneficial rewards are expected) and avoiding tendencies (where harmful rewards are expected). In the context of online shopping, the approach tendency could be for example the convenience of shopping from home. It is possi...

The Patient Paradigm Shifts tells readers everything successful businesses need to know about the powerful new healthcare consumer. The dynamics of healthcare are shifting the patient paradigm in dramatic ways. The former patient is now both a consumer and a customer. The mantra of this new consumer is "convenient, fast, simple, and high value." Their expectations for healthcare are similar to what they experience in other industries such as transportation, banking, short-stay rental housing, retail shopping online, same-day deliveries, and more. Smart mobile devices enable the customer to conduct transactions at any place and at any time, and without waiting in line. Healthcare providers need to offer customer service experiences similar to Apple, Amazon, Nordstrom, and other benchmark companies in order to stay competitive. The mindset of the new patient-turned-consumer has fundamentally shifted and there is no looking back. Anyone connected to healthcare needs to learn the profiles of the new consumer, better understand their behaviors, and comprehend their expectations as customers who have a choice. The Patient Paradigm Shifts tells you everything a successful business needs to know about the powerful new healthcare consumer.

With the growing recognition that customers are market-based assets, research on linking consumer mindset metrics to consumer behavior and market value has been gaining significance. Advocates of perceptual metrics argue that company actions move customers closer to buying decisions and that tracking and interpreting mindset metrics provide early evaluation signals of actual consumer purchase behavior and capital market valuation. This book deals with the impact of mindset metrics on consumer behavior and capital market valuation. The author develops a market share attraction model, which models the link between primary consumer mindset metrics and customer acquisition as well as customer repeat purchase behavior. As an empirical illustration, the proposed model is applied to the US automobile industry. Furthermore, using representative large-scale surveys of US and European consumers, the author investigates the association between perceptual brand measures and the capital markets' expectation of risk-adjusted future cash flows. The research findings indicate that perceptual metrics are important predictors of customer acquisition, customer retention and the market value of a firm. Hence, the results reported in this book help managers to quantify the return on intangible investments and offer a better understanding of the impact of mindset metrics on consumer buying behavior and market value.

It is usual to evaluate EU actorness in different fields of action based on the requirements for EU actorness in general. There is hardly any work suggesting specific requirements for EU actorness in one of the fields of action. The aim of this paper is to open a new pathway in the European studies by introducing specific requirements for EU actorness in conflict resolution. New requirements for EU actorness in conflict resolution were drawn from the re-organized order of general requirements for EU actorness and conflict resolution theory. First, EU external influence capabilities were investigated. Then, these requirements were applied in the cases of the Macedonian and Georgian conflicts. In the end of each case, lessons were drawn for practical use. The result came in this paper is that while the EU meets the requirements of capabilities and recognition (partially) in both of the cases, it suffers from the absence of the convergence of the preferences of EU member states. In general, both the theoretical and empirical findings of this paper are new in their field and highlight many questions for further research.

The electronic world vastly accelerated the proliferation of information. Especially younger people often collect independent information about a product online, before actually puchasing it. Due to this potential of autonomous information, it is crucial for companies to find effective ways to track, measure and interpret electronic Word-of-Mouth (e-WOM).This paper presents ways to measure web based contents quantitatively and introduces appropriate indicators to provide the company with a full-spectrum-view of the consumer generated media. Moreover the interrelation between e-WOM and sales is shown. As a conclusion, suitable metrics are adapted to a practically usable dashboard for the management.

Since 1 January 2007, Moldova has been a direct neighbour of the European Union. Nonetheless, Moldova and the Russia-dominated geopolitics of the Black Sea region receive still relatively little attention in the West. This is all the more surprising as there remain a number of consequential political divisions and unresolved conflicts in the area. One of them is the Transnistria conflict in Moldova. This book is a contribution to the, so far, small research and policy agenda on Moldova, and includes findings of several research trips to Moldova, Transnistria and their neighbouring countries. At first, the study reassesses the Transnistria conflict. Contrary to widely held assumptions, this conflict is found to be mainly based on a clash of elites and geopolitical interests rather than on ethnic tensions. The second part of the book analyses the interests, official position, actual impact and potential role of the EU in Moldova's internal separatist conflict and its related external tensions with Russia. So far, the EU has had a limited involvement in the conflict resolution efforts and in the international relations of Moldova. This book concludes that it is becoming increasingly important and possible for the EU to get effectively involved in this region, but that the scope of EU activities in Moldova and Transnistria depends on the country's relations with, and on the actions in this area of, the United States and Russia. At its end, the study offers recommendations ...

Master's Thesis from the year 2017 in the subject Computer Science - IT-Security, University of Applied Sciences Graz, language: English, abstract: The vision of internet of things (IoT) has become a reality and in recent years, it has seen rapid growth. However, there is a lot more to come from this technological Tsunami. In simple terms, Internet of Things is a network of interconnected objects or things with sensors, collecting data and making actionable decisions. With the arrival and adaptation of this technology, many questions regarding cyber security are raised. This master thesis examines the consumer perspective on key elements of the internet of things. The elements in focus are consumer awareness, the perception of privacy and perception of value. The relationship of these elements with Gender and Nationality is investigated. The study is based on the survey of respondents belonging to Austria and India. After interviewing two experts from the field of the internet of things and reviewing the literature, the vulnerabilities surrounding IoT were confirmed. Lack of consumer awareness is considered a hindrance in the adaptation of IoT, whereas the trust between technology and consumers has decreased over time. It is claimed that consumers do not value security enough to pay extra for it. However, the findings from this study suggest a shift in the understanding and attitude of the consumer base.
