Empowerment means increasing the capacity of individuals or groups to make effective development and life choices and to transform these choices into desired actions and outcomes. This book, aims to determine the relationship between social capital and economic empowerment among the farmers of the agricultural production cooperatives(APCs)in the rural area in Isfahan Province in Iran. This Study analyzes the conditions, problems and potential of rural women’s empowerment through a sample of rural women’s organizations (two women’s cooperative, seven rural development cooperative and one village women association) with a socialist feminist perspective. In this study, it is stated that the agricultural sector policies and rural development policy were constructed in relation with the conditions of underdevelopment in Turkey. It is notable that these policies are formulated without taking precautions for the survival of small sized farming households in rural areas. Despite these general influences of underdevelopment to Turkish Agricultural Sector and patriarchal ideology, these women’s organizations could be successful to some extent empowering their members with the recognized dimensions of empowerment such as; psychological, economical, social, organizational and political. With this study, it could be said that while economic empowerment and psychological empowerment are the base of all dimensions of empowerment, social empowerment and organizational empowerment are the most dynamic processes of empowerment and political empowerment is the hardest to achieve.

The book provides an analysis of the effect of migration on the empowerment of women in traditionally patriarchal societies in three Western Balkan countries: Albania, Bosnia-Herzegovina and Macedonia. The study focuses on the household unit and examines the positions of women with and without migration experience in their families. Research findings suggest that the effect of migration on the empowerment of women in three selected dimensions (socio-cultural, economic and domestic decision making) depends crucially on the personal ability of each individual woman to consider the migration experience in light of the complex interface of socio-economic factors in both home and host countries.

Seminar paper from the year 2016 in the subject Economics - Case Scenarios, grade: 1,0, University of Wisconsin-Madison (Economics), course: Economics 477: Economic Development of Africa, language: English, abstract: This paper investigates the Black Economic Empowerment (BEE) program in South Africa and its economic justification by analyzing the trends in both, intra- and interracial inequality, since the implementation of BEE. Even though inequality is driven by many different factors, this paper attempts to analyze whether BEE was able to effectively reduce inequality in the way that it was intended. My findings suggest that BEE might have helped to reduce inequality between different races, but that it increased inequality among black people.During Apartheid, black people were excluded from major parts of South Africa's economy. This resulted in an unequal income distribution in South Africa. Even after Apartheid ended in 1994 income was distributed unequally between races. In order to reduce this inequality and equalize opportunities between the different races in South Africa, the government implemented an affirmative action program called Black Economic Empowerment (BEE) in 2003. In this case and in the following sections, the word "black" defines a racial group, including Africans, coloreds and Indians and can thus be used as synonym for "non-whites." BEE introduced a scorecard which rates companies based on their economic inclusion of black peopl...

Empowerment Takes More Than a Minute tells the story of a young manager whose attempts to turn his troubled company around through traditional top-down, command-and-control management are failing. Reluctantly, he contacts an expert in empowerment, even though he feels like he's already tried that too. Step by step, the expert helps him understand why his past and present efforts have fallen short and exactly what he needs to do to create an empowered workforce. The process as it unfolds is complex, paradoxical and counterintuitive -but well worth the effort. The new introduction dispels the notion that empowerment is a bygone fad. No matter what its name, the essential concept-that organizations can achieve extraordinary results by recognizing and taking advantage of the skills, experience, and knowledge already existing in the organization-will always be relevant. The new epilogue describes obstacles companies have encountered and overcome and outlines empowerment strategies that have proved successful during the fifteen years the authors have been consulting, researching, and refining these concepts. Although sometimes arduous, the journey to empowerment is well worth making. In fact, unleashing the power of people in an organization may be the only way to continue to do business in a competitive, complicated marketplace.

This book is an economic and philosophical discourse on sustainable economic development inspired by Ujamaa and the philosophy of self-reliance advocated by Julius Nyerere as a policy towards social and economic development. The book explores human empowerment as a means to sustainable economic development. It argues that human empowerment in developing countries can build on Nyerere's approach to development founded on community participation. However, self-reliance is not possible without the ability to build sustainable development and-, self-reliance philosophy and efforts towards development in their current forms have lacked the ability to intensify people's capability. Human empowerment is needed to produce people with vision, who can reflect on situations, initiate relevant and responsible action, and thereby transform situations for the common good. The empowerment I recommend is endowed on education, entrepreneurship and civil societies. Building on Amartya Sen's philosophy of the capability approach to development, empowerment will provide relevant solution for developing countries to break away from economic dependency and the vicious cycle of poverty.

This book assesses whether or not microcredit programs of FINCA International are empowering women clients and their households in Malawi and Zambia. The study set out to determine if any major changes, partial changes or no changes have occurred on women clients and their households, businesses and communities, because of clients' participation in FINCA program. Study participants were women clients under the Village Bank and Loan Officers. This book argues that the FINCA microcredit program has enabled women clients attain some important levels of empowerment, and improve their wellbeing. The program has also benefited clients' households, businesses, and communities. However, some clients have not benefited much from this program. It also argues that the FINCA program has not enabled women clients attain other levels of empowerment, due, in part, to its shortcomings, and challenges it is facing. It further contends that differing program impacts exist among clients, households and businesses; but beneficiary communities have benefited similarly. It also unravels the workings of the current stiff competition and scramble for clients among MFIs in Malawi and Zambia.

The term "empowerment" has become increasingly common in the past decades and been defined and used in different ways. This book analyzes the process of women's empowerment by taking a postmodern feminist approach to situate women's narratives and experience in the context of rural Cambodia. It provides a detailed analysis of a case study of the village, which has actively participated in agricultural extension work and setting up community based organizations. Women's participation in group activities contributed to improving agricultural practice and access to financial resources. The satisfaction lead to women's continuous engagement in such activities and women expressed their increase sense of self-worth. As a result, the community experienced improvements in women's status such as more women taking leadership role, appreciation to women's engagement in public, and decreased domestic violence. Both women and men describe such changes by challenging some old ideologies that restricted women's activities. This study shows that women's empowerment process can be conceptualized and possible to set a framework for assessing impacts of development activities.

The international community's efforts to support early childhood programmingin the developing world fall more broadly within the empowerment camp than other development sectors, and, through theirgreater-than-average integration of civil society institutions, local communities, and governments, may serve as a source of important lessonsabout "fishing expeditions" in development more generally. Diploma Thesis from the year 2001 in the subject Psychology - Developmental Psychology, grade: 1,0, Free University of Berlin, 95 entries in the bibliography, language: English, abstract: In this diploma thesis I want to consider several approaches in the area of moral development research.Given the theory of Lawrence Kohlberg, young children (younger than 10 years of age) seem to stay completely under the constraints of authorities and rules. According to Kohlberg, children's social judgments and behaviors are determined by instrumental aims to satisfy their own needs and wishes, or to avoid punishment. In this regard, the helping of others or meeting the needs of others is only motivated by instrumental considerations. Thus, in Kohlberg's view young children are not able to think or to act in a genuinely moral way. In reaction to Kohlberg, other researchers have suggested that young children are capable to make genuinely moral judgments and to act in a moral way. Eisenberg (e.g. 1986) has suggested that young children can have empathic or altruistic feelings which lead them to conduct prosocial acts. Other researchers (e.g. Keller, 1996; Nunner-Winkler, 1993) assert that children under the age of ten years are able to understand and feel moral emotions, which they consider as constitutive or as indicators for morality. Turiel and his associates (e.g. Turiel, 1983) suggest that even children at about 2 years of age are able to differentiate between a moral, conventio...

Nurses and healthcare professionals are constantly faced with ethical and philosophical dilemmas when working with children in everyday practice. Ethical and Philosophical Aspects of Nursing Children and Young People is a comprehensive text on the ethics and philosophy behind paediatric nursing that reflects the contemporary issues encountered while working with children and young people. The title provides a philosophical and historical analysis of the subject, looking at a review of sociological and political theories concerning the nature of childhood, and providing a critical analysis of contemporary notions about childhood. It then goes on to look at moral theories and their application to paediatric nursing practice, ethical issues when caring for children of all ages, from infancy to adolescence. It considers issues of disabled children, confidentiality, mental health issues, children's rights, and pain management. With case studies and activities throughout, this book will enable students and newly qualified nurses both to understand philosophical concepts and issues but also to articulate their own reflections and observations on these subjects. Written by children's nurses for children's nurses With contributions from internationally recognised experts in the field Reflective scenarios, further reading, extensive referencing, case studies, guided questions, and resources throughout Includes appendices on the RCPCH Guidelines on Withdrawal of Treatment, the ICN Ethical Code, the Summary of the UNCRC, and the RCPCH Guidelines for the Conduct of Ethical Research

Participatory Irrigation Management (PIM) in Nepal was implemented in 1990s with the objective of transferring the irrigation management to the grass root level. It is clear that the management has been transferred to the community, but it is not clear as to how the objectives of PIM are being met. The study takes place in the two communities in Chitwan, Nepal: Chainpur and Pithuwa.Although the idea and the objectives of the PIM seemed very attractive, it is questionable as to how participation is taking place at different levels in the two communities. Taking into account the definition of participation and empowerment, the study shows that with the different cultural background and social difference, the farmers at different levels in the communities are not empowered and have no full pariticipation in the decision making of the management of the irrigation systems. On top of that, the study also shows the influence of the political structure of the country which is embedded in the two communities affecting the participation and empowerment of the farmers at different levels.

A 'one-stop shop' for churches considering the admission of children to Holy Communion The Church of England has allowed the admission of baptised children to Holy Communion before confirmation since 1997 but currently only about 20% of parishes currently do so. There is therefore much scope for many more churches to explore the issue and this book contains all a church would need to do so, including resources for exploring the issue with a whole congregation, case studies from real-life churches, a preparation course, an admission liturgy and advice on including and involving children in Eucharistic worship. The book also includes theological reflection on children and the Eucharist from Michael Perham and considers the impact of receiving Holy Communion on children's discipleship.

Scientific Essay from the year 2012 in the subject Theology - Practical Theology, , language: English, abstract: In the aspect of the Council and the new code, the parental rights had been settled and it seemed to be absolutely clear what these rights and obligations had been. However, as this essay would like to show, there remained many questions opened. The major thing that kept us puzzle through our previous doctoral research as well was that how parental rights and duties can be exercised if the parents get divorced, or there is a partner of life (cohabitation) and also when one or both parents remarry. In these cases, the duties and the rights must be handled more precisely. We do think that the Code does not count on these in every detail. The problem might be that the CIC itself would not account for civil divorce and re-marriage. It only speaks about "legal" separation. However, in the case of a successful nullity case and positive decision, we must account for remarriage, or partnership where the duties and right must also be exercised, and the children must get the proper education.

Microcredit operations began with the specific objective of poverty alleviation in Bangladesh. Poverty is widespread in Bangladesh. It is even more intense among the rural women of the country. Poverty situation improved with the expansion of microcrdit and rural women gained some empowerment as they had their own income through participation in the credit activities. But they are still far from achieving equal status with men because microcredit primarily addresses income poverty and it has inherent weaknesses in facilitating other conditions necessary for full empowerment of women. Not only are the inherent weaknesses, the socio-economic environment of rural Bangladesh, where microcredit functions, is also a big impediment to achieving women empowerment. Therefore, a comprehensive approach, which includes microcredit too, is necessary for further empowering the rural women of Bangladesh. This approach includes social mobilization, awareness-building, regulations enhancing, equitable financial practices and government initiatives.

Bangladeshi population lives below the poverty line are unable to let their children to the school in spite of their keen interest. Many times they send their children to work only for personal subsistence. In this case the family does not get earning from their children but the family gets rid of the burden of children’s expenses and finally the children remain without education. Cross-country evidence indicates that low rate of child education are link to poverty. Children in poor families work because the family needs the extra income for their survival. Generally people take credit for two types of necessary, First, credit is taken by the meager living people for livelihood and secondly, want to have economic solvency by investing more to increase the production and then income. Under the above circumstances, in order to increase the literacy rate along with to increase the family income of the poor we may hope that parents will send their children to school. This preventive issue dictates that solvency in economy may help to send the poor people’s children to the school. So we will try to look at how micro-credit may help in the said case.

Through centuries, mother tries to raise all her children, within her capacity, utilizing her complete efforts, equally for all of them. Is it due to ‘circumstances’, people within her environment, or 'lack of knowledge to efficiently raise her children’, that she develops negative / dysfunctional attitudes towards her children. This book proposes that mother’s dysfunctional attitude and emotional or depressive symptoms of adult children are positively related to each other. Do these dysfunctional attitudes provide hurt and sufferings in their personal, family and professional lives? And in turn does the mother also experience in continuation with the results of what she has inculcated through her attitudes within her children? Does a mother expect to possess her children all over their ages from infancy to adulthood and beyond? Is she communicating the negative expectations of failure and mistrust towards her children? Is she comparing her children negatively with their father’s misbehavior? Are these her main dysfunctional attitudes? Through this book, Parents and Teachers would try to understand their children and adapt positive attitude to enable their children towards success.

Stimmer 2006: 49). Relation between AIDS and orphan children are also discussed in this book. Initiatives of various governments and NGO are also included in this book.
