Bachelor Thesis from the year 2012 in the subject Tourism, grade: 2,6, Heidelberg International Business Academy, language: English, abstract: Despite the fact that horse-based tourism is popular as a high-impact recreational activity, this research field has received little attention. Although motivation theories have been related to jobs and tourism in general, little is known about the target groups of equestrian tourists. The purpose of this study is to investigate, how the Landsmót affect the motivation of the German Icelandic Horse community regarding their decision to travel to Iceland. Special focus was put on their individual motivation to visit the Landsmót and the resulting impact on their final travel decision. To identify correlations between tourist motivation and destination choice, the study is based on a cross-sectional explanatory research purpose, using a mixed-model research method which consists of a survey and an archival research.Responses from 222 German Icelandic Horse community members were used in order to answer the research questions. The results illustrate, regardless of gender, that equestrian tourists of the German Icelandic Horse community were mostly motivated by entertainment and aesthetic needs, rather than escape or self-esteem. However, comparisons based on the colonial cup race study by Daniels and Norman (2005) show significant differences in the motivation need of group affiliation. No direct correlation exists between the travel motiva...

Chinyoka Samuel The Franchising Strategy. riding on franchisees. good performance

Business operators need entrepreneurial skills to succeed in business. How much of such skills do they need? This study contrasts franchisees from non-franchised entrepreneurs. Views of franchisees, non-franchised entrepreneurs and experts are sought to establish that franchisees do not need as much entrepreneurial skills as non-franchised entrepreneurs to succeed in business. The study uses ordinal data derived from views of the three categories of people above to demonstrate that indeed non-franchised entrepreneurs possess higher entrepreneurial skills, yet their performance is not as good as that of franchisees. With this conclusion, the study recommends the franchising strategy to those countries whose Small Enterprise Strategies have been a failure due to enterprise failures stemming from lack of adequate entrepreneurial skills.

David Smith Sophisticated Modelling Tools of the Economic Analysis of Tourism

Research Paper (undergraduate) from the year 2017 in the subject Tourism, , language: English, abstract: Economic impact refers to the changes in the economic contribution resulting from specific events or activities that comprise 'shocks' to the tourism system. Tourism Satellite Accounts (TSA) are a statistical tool. They are used to report how much the tourism sector has contributed to an economy and how important the tourism sector is compared to other sectors in the economy. Computable General Equilibrium (CGE) tourism model can provide more realistic analytical recommendations to policy makers. More specifically, the model can be used to measure economy-wide yield for tourism destinations. The paper first outlines the nature and importance of TSAs as a measure of the economic contribution of tourism to an economy. TSAs based estimates of the direct contribution of tourism in Australia are provided to illustrate the use of this tool. The paper then discusses the importance of developing TSAs at the regional level and the approaches that can be employed (bottom up, top down, mixed), as well as the limitations of TSAs as a policy instrument. It then discusses CGE modelling as a tool of economic impact analysis providing CGE based estimates of the economic impacts of increased inbound tourism to Queensland to illustrate the use of this technique. The analysis is expected to enhance stakeholder understanding the separate roles that TSAs and CGE modelling can play in d...

Master's Thesis from the year 2011 in the subject Cultural Studies - European Studies, grade: A, University of Aarhus, language: English, abstract: The phenomenon of ethnic entrepreneurship does not seem to flourish in Italy when compared with other European countries. An exception is provided by the Romanian group. Specifically, this community seems to be extremely successful on the entrepreneurial level, not only because of the large number of firms they established in the territory, but also because of their rapid and extensive growth in recent years. This phenomenon is interesting and puzzling when considering the discriminatory attitudes of the Italian public opinion towards Romanians and the contradictory Italian immigration policies. This thesis intends to disentangle the reasons for the entrepreneurial success of Romanians in Italy, taking into consideration the specific location of Padua. In doing so, this study contributes to the debate on ethnic entrepreneurship, by developing the understanding of the multiplicity of factors behind this phenomenon.Given the scope, a qualitative approach was adopted. Specifically, the core of this thesis is a community-based fieldwork carried out in Padua. Five Romanian entrepreneurs in the territory were carefully sampled and interviewed. Subsequently, their answers have been interpreted, analysed and discussed. The results suggest that several factors contribute to the entrepreneurial careers of Romanians in Padua. First, the ec...

Tourism planning in Bosnia and Herzegovina is an original and innovative book which resulted from 11 months long research. It examines the theoretical dimension of tourism planning approaches emphasizing the importance of two important dimensions, sustainability and community involvement. The author sets out to investigate institutions responsible for tourism development and to test possibility of application of "Third Way" model of tourism planning in the country. The findings show that the concept of tourism planning is well understood but remained a theoretical percept rather than an implementable practice. Furthermore, the present situation can be attributed to the political complexity of the economies in transitions and reluctance of the officials to commit themselves to a planning process which require responsibilities and sacrifices. The book gives chance to readers to draw clear picture of tourism potentials and problems in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The book is aimed to all those interested in tourism planning worldwide and especially tourism planning authorities in B&H with hope to be of great help in their future tourism planning practices and approaches

A compelling case for an entrepreneurial approach to ministry and mission, exploring its biblical basis and potential benefits. Based on extensive interviews with entrepreneurial ministers from a range of denominations. Draws on examples of 'entrepreneurs' from the Bible and Christian history to help readers imagine how such an approach could work in their own context. Addresses the problems some have with the word 'entrepreneur' and sets out a positive and informed alternative understanding. Full of informative and inspiring case-studies of entrepreneurial ministry in action. Building on his own experiences as a priest and an entrepreneur, Volland argues that the concept of entrepreneurship offers churches a helpful lens through which to view Christian ministry and mission, and an understanding and approach to ministry that is well fitted for the mission task in a rapidly changing world. He shows how an entrepreneurial approach is consistent with understandings of leadership in the major denominations and in the new churches. He also argues that such an approach is consistent both with the nature of God and with human collaboration with God's activity in the world. His conclusions are based on extensive interviews with entrepreneurial ministers (Justin Welby and Steven Croft were among the interviewees), and his findings result in practical suggestions for those seeking to be more entrepreneurial in their ministries as well as in recommendations for strat...

John Eger The creative community

Scientific Essay from the year 2010 in the subject Cultural Studies - Miscellaneous, San Diego State University, language: English, abstract: Creating a twenty-first-century city is not so much a question of technology as it is of jobs, dollars and quality of life. A community's plan to reinvent itself for the new, knowledge-based economy and society therefore requires educating all its citizens about this new global revolution in the nature of work. To succeed, cities must prepare their citizens to take ownership of their communities and educate the next generation of leaders and workers to meet the new global challenges of what is now being termed the "Creative Economy." At the heart of such efforts must be recognition of the vital roles that art and technology play in enhancing economic development and, ultimately, defining a "creative community" -- a community that exploits the vital linkages among art, technology and commerce. A community with a sense of place. A community that nurtures attracts and holds the most creative and innovation workers. Those communities placing a premium on cultural, ethnic, and artistic diversity, reinventing their knowledge factories for the creative age, and building the new information infrastructures for our age, will likely burst with creativity and entrepreneurial fervor. These are the ingredients so essential to developing and attracting the bright and creative people to generate new patents and inventions, innovati...

Chih-Hsien Chen, Chyi Jaw, Bo-Xun Xiao Measuring Service Innovation Performance - Measuring Service Innovation Performance by Diffusion Model. Empirical Evidence on New Festivals of Tourism

It is not easy to protect an unique service by regulation and patent because of the service characteristics. Service firms just only develop innovations continually to define and extend their market. Specially, the growth of some service industries (e.g. tourism) is limited by the once consumption which is difficult to repeat in short duration. The weakness has pushed these service industries to stimulate the new consumption by continual innovations which need many resources. But the ambiguous performance of service innovation could not prove the reasonableness of resource allocation. This study tries to measure new service diffusion as innovation performance in order to help evaluate the innovation decision in service industry.

CEOs and managers live and die by delivering superior performance to shareholders. This is why expectations-based management has been developed. Outperform with Expectations-Based Management (EBM) introduces a revolutionary new performance metric that links performance standards, performance measurement, and the achievement of performance. It's easy to say that if a CEO can get performance measurement right, then performance improvement will follow. But what is the «right» measure of performance, and how do you use it to improve performance? Authors Tom Copeland and Aaron Dolgoff answer these questions and many more, as they show you how to find the measure of performance that has the strongest link to the creation of wealth for the owners of both public and private companies. They answer the puzzle of why growth in earnings is not correlated with shareholder returns and explain the under- and over-investment traps. And they explain how clear communications to investors and managers alike improve value. The bottom line is that share prices go up when companies exceed expectations – short-term and long-term – of income statement and balance sheet performance and daily operating value drivers. Gain a complete understanding of EBM and discover how to do this, and much more, while staying competitive in an unforgiving business environment.

The high demand for animal encounters is mostly caused by the soaring number of international tourist arrivals and the search by travellers for new and memorable experiences in contact with nature. Kim Julian Nestel, Elena Trost Corporate Entrepreneurship. What do Companies require from Entrepreneurs.

Research Paper (undergraduate) from the year 2016 in the subject Business economics - Company formation, Business Plans, grade: 1, Uppsala University, language: English, abstract: Within a world of emerging global markets and rapid technological development, there is a strong demand for entrepreneurship within established companies in order to stay competitive. According to different studies, there is a positive linkage between Corporate Entrepreneurship (CE) and companies' performance, which leads to a strong demand from organizations to foster their entrepreneurial culture. The recruitment and selection function within Human Resource Management (HRM) is an essential driver to attract, develop, and retain entrepreneurial people within corporations. The literature proposes that companies should match their selection criteria to the identified dimensions of Entrepreneurial Orientation (EO).However, there is a lack of research if companies have specific HRM practices to select and retain entrepreneurial people. By investigating the recruitment requirements and development possibilities of Swedish-based companies, this study contributes empirical knowledge to the topic of how companies deal with HRM and CE. This information improves the understanding in the Corporate Entrepreneurship literature.

Marc Vogel Implementation of a Performance Attribution System in a Funds Management Company

Inhaltsangabe:Introduction: Within this thesis fundamentals of performance attribution are treated as well as the practical implementation of such a system. However, for many people who already asked to receive a copy of this work, the most important part will be the analysis of the (partly internet based) questionnaire revolving around performance attribution. The theoretical part contains the fundamentals of portfolio theory and the constructive CAPM, followed by basics of portfolio management. Next topics are the estimation of risk and performance for investment portfolios. The finishing touch is done by introduction of performance attribution theories handling both, equity and bond attribution. Within the practical part a short analysis of the affected asset management company is performed, accompanied by research of performance presentation. A questionnaire has been sent to 80 non-banks of the German HDAX index as well as to all members of the BVI. Furthermore an internet based version of the questionnaire has been introduced to a large number of institutional clients. The analysis of this questionnaire is one of the topics of this work. For the affected company the results from the questionnaire are used to identify the competitors’ possibilities and the clients’ needs, resulting in fundamental ideas for the catalogue of requirements. The analysis of the investment process and based on this the choice and the implementation of a performance attribution system are the la...

I. Manev Social Capital and Strategy Effectiveness: An Empirical Study of Entrepreneurial Ventures in a Transition Economy

Although new ventures’ competitive positioning and their founders’ social networks are both recognized as important in the context of transition economies, not much is known about their multiplicative effect on performance. We build on the strategic management literature and social network theory to develop theoretical predictions about the role of competitive strategies and social capital for entrepreneurial performance. These are tested with survey data from Bulgaria. We find that both the venture’s competitive strategic positioning and the founder’s networking positively influence performance. The hypothesized moderating effect of networking for the relationship between differentiation strategy and performance received only tentative support. Contrary to expectations, we find a negative moderating effect of networking for the relationship of cost leadership with performance. These results suggest that the entrepreneur’s network plays a role in shaping how strategies influence performance by possibly upholding differentiation and deemphasizing cost leadership strategy. Implications for managerial practice and public policy are discussed.

Alf H. Walle The Equitable Cultural Tourism Handbook (PB)

The goal of this book is to deal, in a provocative way, with a number of key issues involvingthe increased participation of the private sector within cultural tourism. My goal is notto write a complete overview of the field. Instead, this short book deals with a fairly circumscribedset of issues involving contemporary changes within cultural tourism. Sincemodern business largely focuses on serving customers, a major focus of this book concernsmarketing thought and its implications in regard to cultural tourism. In large measure, thisbook seeks to help host communities and their advocates to become familiar with andcomfortable within a private sector context as well as being able to interact in such anenvironment. The book starts with a two-chapter introduction that focuses upon the distinctive role of cultural tourism. As emphasized inchapter 1, a dilemma arises because cultural tourism must simultaneously serve multiple stakeholders and do so in equitableways. This is much more complex than the more typical task of concentrating upon the needs, wants, and desires of customers. These ideas are refined in chapter 2 where the discussion centers primarily upon the importance of serving hostcommunities, in addition to customers. Certainly, catering to customers continues to be an issue, but it should be envisionedas an ad hoc method of serving the host community.

Maxwell Musingafi Improving Performance in the African Civil Service

Most African governments have attempted improving performance of their civil service through reforms. All ended up failing meeting the desired results because of a combination of factors. The Zimbabwean experience is a typical African reforms effort that failed because of both internal weaknesses and external pressures. Since Independence in 1980, Zimbabwe has tried a number of change programmes to improve performance among civil servants. Some of the major reform and revitalization of the public service programmes attempted by the government are blackenisation, performance management, professionalisation. Yet, as shown by Bologun (2003) on African attempts at reforms, there is no evidence that the efforts had any positive significant impact on performance. The Public Service in Zimbabwe has been associated with poor management, corruption, nepotism, poor communication, and rude, frustrated and unsympathetic Civil Servants (Public Service Performance Management Training Manual, 1998). A Civil Servant has been known to be slow in responding to demands and in decision-making.

Camaro West Volunteer Tourism. Effective Development Tool. Or Feel Good Travel.

As a branch of alternative tourism, volunteer tourism or 'voluntourism' is responsible for introducing vacationers to parts of developing countries not usually seen through traditional forms of tourism. Broadly defined, voluntourism consists of "Those tourists who, for various reasons, volunteer in an organized way to undertake holidays that might involve aiding or alleviating the material poverty in some groups in society...". These travellers interact with local and community development organizations in ways said to capacitate the organizations and contribute to development as a whole. This raises important questions about the implications of inserting unskilled and unprepared volunteers into what is said to be development work. Drawing on the development framework set out by various community development theories, and using a case study of American volunteer tourist groups working in Guatemala; this manuscript examines claims that short-term, unskilled volunteers can engage in local development work and unpacks many of the issues associated with this new trend.

Bachelor Thesis from the year 2018 in the subject Business economics - Investment and Finance, grade: 1,0, University of Mannheim (Chair of Strategic and International Management, Prof. Dr. Matthias Brauer), language: English, abstract: The landscape of entrepreneurial finance is currently subject to a process of transformation, driven by globalization, technological advancements, regulatory adjustments, and the emergence of winner-take-all markets. These factors jointly pave the way for new forms of financing, which differ significantly from traditional forms in terms of investor structure, experience, and behavior. To analyze how startups can ensure financial coverage in the light of these changing conditions, this review compares strategies of attracting traditional and new types of investors from a signaling perspective. In business practice, this topic is highly relevant, as many young startups require substantial amounts of external capital to grow, but often have no objective firm data to provide to investors. Thus, the selection of effective "soft" signals about startup quality, preferably aligned with the preferences of the respective investor group, can decide about short-term survival and long-term performance. Findings include that the most promising signaling strategies for traditional forms of financing are based on startup characteristics, i.e. what a firm is. In contrast, the most effective signals for new forms of financing are based on startup action...

The study addresses Algeria in general and explains what regional development should be made possible. Concepts of management are explained, leading to a new path of tourism development that should be taken in Algeria. Algeria is a very rich country in terms of tourism, but it has little knowledge about using its resources. Algeria's coastal and saharan desert have excellent tourism potential. By making long-term plans, they can become an indispensable destination for sustainable tourism. Looking at the old history of Algeria, it is clear that this is a country that has hosted many civilizations. It is also the largest country of African in terms of surface area, and it takes a lot of time to be safe because of its size. In the neighboring countries Morocco and Tunisia, tourism is already growing greatly. However, there are few in Algeria to work in the name of tourism. In this thesis, it is explained how management should be handled in order to increase tourism investments. Finally, in a survey study conducted in Algiers city, the opinion of local inhabitants on tourism development of Algeria is also made clear.

Usability is a measure of quality of a website's presence. As high usability is a key component of overall user satisfaction, this research focuses on a specific online travel website, Tiscover, to find out critical usability criteria from the point of view of online users. Extensive research about usability and its respective criteria is centre of this paper, together with insight of the rise and current status of e-tourism. E-tourism has gained a lot of importance in today's consumer society as gathering information for tourism destinations and online booking have become commonplace.Literature about usability together with e-tourism is scarce and therefore it becomes a challenge to explore these two important aspects of the Internet in depth.Six interviews with experienced Internet users were conducted. The emphasis was on the website's homepage and booking process which consists of five different steps. The research is based on the usability-testing method and was analysed via the content analysis to provide rich findings and determine critical usability factors.

With the focus on the tourism industry of hosting regions, this work tries to start to change this, as an exploratory approach towards finding out more about the interrelationship of those two topics in tourism. As both, MSEs and cooperation are gaining more and more interest within tourism research this should also be seen as an approach to combine both to motivate further research.Methodologically this is realized by conducting expert interview with five industry experts with valuable experience in preparing, hosting and also benefiting from a Mega Sport Event. The expert interview, as the primary research part of this work is based on the cooperation concept of Axelrod's game theory. The Maronda Mashona (Five Wounds of Christ) community was set up in colonial Zimbabwe just over a century ago by the missionary, poet, redoubtable champion of African rights and fierce critic of imperialist oppression, Rev Arthur Shearly Cripps. This book describes the evolution of the community from its beginnings as a mission sanctuary for black people who had been deprived of their lands or had suffered oppression at the hands of white farmers and officials. Following Cripps's death in 1952, the Maronda Mashona community evolved into a conjunction of small-scale landholders and communal area cultivators, tied together by their common identification with the legacy of Baba Cripps. It is the culmination of the author's long association with the Maronda Mashanu community, going back several decades, and is based on extensive oral and documentary evidence.

Project Report from the year 2018 in the subject Tourism, grade: N/A, , language: English, abstract: Bunglon Cave is a jagged karst limestone tower standing out of the flatlands of alluvium and soil in the vicinity of Barangay Tagabinet. According to anecdotes from senior residents of the area, the name Bunglon is a Tagbanua term for wild dogs that used to roam the cave. The Cave is geographically situated at North 11°54'71" and East 70°31'73". From the 1970s until the 1990s, the hill was trekked by young people for its scenic and natural beauty and became a popular hangout for the locals. Aside from its recreational service, Bunglon's forest provided an important livelihood for the Tagabinet community whose occupations were mainly farming and fishing. During that period, slash and burn or kaingin farming was prevalent as well as the conversion of mangrove forests to fish pens. The highly extractive and destructive nature of these two practices took its toll on the natural environment of Bunglon which in turn seriously affected the livelihood of the community. In 1999, Mr. Kenneth Kennedy, and some member of the University of the Philippines Mountaineers (UPM) discovered one particular stalactite inside the cave which produced a haunting humming sound when knocked. He named it "Ugong Rock" from the Tagalog word "ugong" for the humming sound it made. Since then, Bunglon Cave became more popular among the community members and visitors as Ugo...

Scientific Study from the year 2017 in the subject Tourism, University of Kelaniya, course: Economic Modelling, language: English, abstract: Measuring the contribution of tourism to a national economy has always been a frustrating exercise. Tourism does not have specific products. It represents the sum of expenditure by travellers for wide range of products. It is not possible to identify tourism as a single "industry" in the national accounts, its value to the economy is not readily revealed. As a result of the absence of tourism in official economic statistics, there is often an on-going battle to establish tourism credibility as an economic activity and generator of income in the economy. Diploma Thesis from the year 2011 in the subject Business economics - Marketing, Corporate Communication, CRM, Market Research, Social Media, International University of Applied Sciences Bad Honnef - Bonn, language: English, abstract: This paper analyzes the effectiveness of differentiation and the strategy's main instruments to further refer them to the exploration of the uniqueness of cruise tourism product features, and best case procedures regarding effective differentiation strategies in tourism sectors. Having used the combination of primary and secondary sources, the research concludes that differentiation is regarded as an effective marketing tool, preventing competition exclusively based on a product's price. It is reported that, as products converge in terms of their features, the creation of a USP becomes more essential.Different levels of a product unveil various possibilities for differentiation; and it is suggested that branding and positioning are used as applicable differentiation instruments. Although differentiation based on the core product is found out to be a common way of distinguishing cruise line products, differentiating through value added features and the product's service component are used more frequently. The findings further reveal that marketing principles are used to differentiate tourism products. Due to the tourism industry's 'me-too' market nature, branding is considered to be a valuable soft differentiation tool. Ma...

First, it provides a systematic historical narrative on Sri Lankan tourism and explains how Sri Lanka missed opportunities in the past. Second, it develops a Computable General Equilibrium (CGE) model focusing on tourism and constructs a database with an emphasis on tourism. Third, it examines the economy-wide effects of the post-war tourism boom in Sri Lanka.

Marcus Wagner Consistency and Credibility.

Consistency and Credibility? identifies in its first part the extent of correlation between actual environmental performance, the use of physical environmental performance indicators and corporate environmental reporting in the paper and electricity industries in Germany and the UK. The results suggest environmental performance is mainly country-related, possibly due to differences in environmental legislation. This implies that any assessment of the relationship between environmental and economic performance of firms needs to be based on actual environmental performance data and cannot take reporting quality or information about the intensity of use of specific tools, such as environmental performance indicators as a proxy variable. The second part of the book therefore analyses the relationship between environmental and economic performance. Based on the results, the book's second part concludes that for firms in environmentally-intensive industries it is difficult to create a positive link between their environmental and economic performance, and that market settings as well as strategy considerations both can have an effect, but situational aspects determine which of these dominates.Consistency and Credibility? provides useful information for practitioners as well as deeper insights for academics about the link of environmental reporting and environmental performance measurement and how this interacts with economic success. It thus reveals valuable strategic insights ...

A multidisciplinary approach to problem-solving in community-based organizations using decision models and operations research applications A comprehensive treatment of public-sector operations research and management science, Decision Science for Housing and Community Development: Localized and Evidence-Based Responses to Distressed Housing and Blighted Communities addresses critical problems in urban housing and community development through a diverse set of decision models and applications. The book represents a bridge between theory and practice and is a source of collaboration between decision and data scientists and planners, advocates, and community practitioners. The book is motivated by the needs of community-based organizations to respond to neighborhood economic and social distress, represented by foreclosed, abandoned, and blighted housing, through community organizing, service provision, and local development. The book emphasizes analytic approaches that increase the ability of local practitioners to act quickly, thoughtfully, and effectively. By doing so, practitioners can design and implement responses that reflect stakeholder values associated with healthy and sustainable communities; that benefit from increased organizational capacity for evidence-based responses; and that result in solutions that represent improvements over the status quo according to multiple social outcome measures. Featuring quantitative and qualitative analytic methods as well as prescriptive and exploratory decision modeling, the book also includes: Discussions of the principles of decision theory and descriptive analysis to describe ways to identify and quantify values and objectives for community development Mathematical programming applications for real-world problem solving in foreclosed housing acquisition and redevelopment Applications of case studies and community-engaged research principles to analytics and decision modeling Decision Science for Housing and Community Development: Localized and Evidence-Based Responses to Distressed Housing and Blighted Communities is an ideal textbook for upper-undergraduate and graduate-level courses in decision models and applications; humanitarian logistics; nonprofit operations management; urban operations research; public economics; performance management; urban studies; public policy; urban and regional planning; and systems design and optimization. The book is also an excellent reference for academics, researchers, and practitioners in operations research, management science, operations management, systems engineering, policy analysis, city planning, and data analytics.
