Consistency and Credibility? identifies in its first part the extent of correlation between actual environmental performance, the use of physical environmental performance indicators and corporate environmental reporting in the paper and electricity industries in Germany and the UK. The results suggest environmental performance is mainly country-related, possibly due to differences in environmental legislation. This implies that any assessment of the relationship between environmental and economic performance of firms needs to be based on actual environmental performance data and cannot take reporting quality or information about the intensity of use of specific tools, such as environmental performance indicators as a proxy variable. The second part of the book therefore analyses the relationship between environmental and economic performance. Based on the results, the book's second part concludes that for firms in environmentally-intensive industries it is difficult to create a positive link between their environmental and economic performance, and that market settings as well as strategy considerations both can have an effect, but situational aspects determine which of these dominates.Consistency and Credibility? provides useful information for practitioners as well as deeper insights for academics about the link of environmental reporting and environmental performance measurement and how this interacts with economic success. It thus reveals valuable strategic insights ...

The strategic management models of the late Igor Ansoff predict that the effectiveness of organizational strategies and management capabilities depends in part on the turbulence of the business environment in which the organization operates. Ansoff defined five levels of turbulence, and identified the characteristics of strategic aggressiveness and management capabilities that are most effective for a given level of turbulence. Greg Lorton adapted Ansoff’s corporate models to environmental management systems within organizations, surveying 78 businesses and government organizations in California. He found that these models continue to be effective when applied to environmental management systems. He further studied the elements of environmental management strategies and how they relate to environmental strategic aggressiveness, management capabilities, and performance on environmental issues. While proactive environmental management systems generally lead to improved environmental performance, in some cases more conservative systems can also be effective.

Although Socially Responsible Investing (SRI) represents only a small number of investors, nevertheless it is on the rise, which means that the environmental performance of oil and gas companies has certain implications for those companies' funding. The aim of this paper is to explore environmental performance in the oil and gas industry and the relationships between environmental performance and SRI in the company BP. A mixed research design is employed in this study in which two types of qualitative exploratory analysis are used: an illustrative case study with BP and semi-structured interviews conducted with 14 individuals including environmental managers, investor relations managers and investment managers. In addition, the researcher will use a qualitative comparison analysis in looking at publications produced by BP on the topic of environmental performance. In this study, the researcher found there to be minimal correlation between environmental performance and ist effects on investors' SRI decisions. This paper has implications for further enhancing the definition of environmental performance and increasing company value for SRI investors, although it is limited by the size of the sample and other uncontrollable variables. This paper increases the understanding of current definitions of environmental performance in the oil and gas industry and enhances values for SRI investors when investing in oil and gas companies. The study addresses Algeria in general and explains what regional development should be made possible. Concepts of management are explained, leading to a new path of tourism development that should be taken in Algeria. Algeria is a very rich country in terms of tourism, but it has little knowledge about using its resources. Algeria's coastal and saharan desert have excellent tourism potential. By making long-term plans, they can become an indispensable destination for sustainable tourism. Looking at the old history of Algeria, it is clear that this is a country that has hosted many civilizations. It is also the largest country of African in terms of surface area, and it takes a lot of time to be safe because of its size. In the neighboring countries Morocco and Tunisia, tourism is already growing greatly. However, there are few in Algeria to work in the name of tourism. In this thesis, it is explained how management should be handled in order to increase tourism investments. Finally, in a survey study conducted in Algiers city, the opinion of local inhabitants on tourism development of Algeria is also made clear.

Diploma Thesis from the year 2001 in the subject Tourism, grade: 1.3, Heilbronn University, language: English, abstract: Often referred to as the 'smokeless industry', tourism has become one of the fastest growing, most dynamic sectors of economic growth in the world. Tourism is a key sector in many developing countries, which show potential. However, over-reliance on tourism, especially mass tourism carries significant risks to tourism-dependent economies. As a result, many developing countries have since espoused the principle of sustainability in shaping their tourism policies. However, few of them have been able to convert this into concrete action owing to the short-term economic interests to which, all too often, priority is given, to the detriment of protecting social and environmental assets. The purpose of this paper is to create and formulate clear, firm and equitable guidelines in a tourism policy concept that is set in the context of sustainable development and aims further to raise the competitive position of a destination. Theory will be demonstrated in practical terms in the case of the Caribbean tourism destination, the Dominican Republic.

This study identifies the positive and negative aspects of tourism as perceived by the residents of Saidpur village, and the influence of selected variables on resident response. It is hypothesized that the perception of tourist impact varies with the distance a person lives from the tourist zone and with the resident's socio-economic status. They want their government to offer more economic incentives and eliminate any restrictive measures in order to stimulate tourism in the area. The positive attitudes of the villagers toward tourism may be a function of the incipient stage of tourism development in this area. Further study will also describe the patterns of inter-regional travel, domestic tourism and the role of tourism in developed area of developing countries. Such descriptions provide the starting point for raising policy issues about the potential for tourism to make a greater contribution to socio-economic development. Balancing economic well-being with social and environmental well-being has been mentioned as a significant consideration affecting the role of tourism in socioeconomic development.

It is not easy to protect an unique service by regulation and patent because of the service characteristics. Service firms just only develop innovations continually to define and extend their market. Specially, the growth of some service industries (e.g. tourism) is limited by the once consumption which is difficult to repeat in short duration. The weakness has pushed these service industries to stimulate the new consumption by continual innovations which need many resources. But the ambiguous performance of service innovation could not prove the reasonableness of resource allocation. This study tries to measure new service diffusion as innovation performance in order to help evaluate the innovation decision in service industry.

Derived from the internal analysis one of the islands' strengths is its range of attractions gastronomy and accommodation. Furthermore, the climate and the geography favour the tourism activity, which result in a high rate of local people who own, or work in local businesses. This is a favourable basis to build the product on. However, the island has weaknesses that include high attraction prices that turn into an opportunity for the product. Another weakness is Madeira's global image as being an old people's destination that again can be used by the product to help the destination attract more families and younger visitors. Last but not least, the cooperation of local tourism related businesses lack and yet another possibility for FUNCHALoCITY is to improve collaboration in Funchal, whose infrastructure is well-developed anyway. Threats might only be of an environmental nature also deriving from the huge centralisation of population in Funchal. Ecotourism has emerged as one of the fastest-growing sectors of the tourism market and protected areas are the foundation of it. Despite this trend, CBET is still at its toddler stage in the Ethiopian national parks. This study focuses on the assessment of potentials, challenges and opportunities of BSNP for CBET development. The results revealed that the park is an ideal place to successfully develop CBET. But the findings of the study also have portrayed that constraints such as poor infrastructural developments, lack of natural buffer zone, environmental degradation, exaggerated shape and size, population growth, settlement, human wild life conflict; and lack of shopping and commercial facilities are persistent challenges. However, worldwide tourism demand with security and political stability, special attention of NGOs, government policy which gives considerable attention to tourism and infrastructural development are opportunities to be utilized. The main conclusions drawn from this research were that the park is an open air museum for biodiversity and geological features.

Since previous instances the requirements of environmental, economic and social aspects for all stages of the life cycle of buildings have increased. The criteria of sustainability are included in building environmental assessment systems and tools used in different countries for evaluating the performance of buildings. The purpose of this paper is to introduce the building environmental assessment system (BEAS) which was developed at the Technical University of Košice. The Slovak system was developed on the basis of existing systems used in many countries. The indicators were proposed according to available information analysis from particular fields of building performance as well as on the basis of our own experimental experiences. Identification of fields and indicators of assessment is processed by confrontation with foreign approach and conformable with the criteria of building sustainability. After fields and indicators were proposed, they were then weighted using the AHP method. The proposed building environmental assessment system has been verified. Consequently a software tool was suggested for simplification of the process for building performance evaluation.

Therefore, the aim of this paper is to develop a Computable General Equilibrium Model for an economy (hereafter referred to as CGE-Tourism) for tourism impact analysis. The core model of CGE-Tourism closely follows the well-known Australian ORANI model and the extension of tourism to the core model closely follows the recent work of Australian tourism modellers. This book is a study on students' perception of environmental stressors as factors affecting their task performance in workshop practice. The environmental stressors considered were noise and vibration from workshop equipment/ tools; daylight illumination; indoor air pollution and thermal discomfort arising from workshop activities; and inappropriate workshop ergonomics from mismatch between the students and their working equipment/tools and the workshop furniture. Data was collected through ESPQ questionnaire and analyzed using arithmetic means, standard deviation and Z-test statistics. Findings indicated that, students perceived the environmental stressors considered in the study as factors that affected their task performance in workshop practice. Tourism is one of the largest and fastest rising services businesses in the world. It has the possible to create many works and create huge wealth. Tourism has become a human rights subject and tourism rights means recognising and addressing the multiple human rights effects and topics related with tourism. It effects on the survival, the environment of original people, the welfare of other cultures. The incongruence and exploitation of the poor by the rich is intrinsic to the worst sort of tourism practices. Actually, tourism growth regularly violates people's human rights, chiefly poor and vulnerable societies in developing countries, exacerbating poverty and trapping publics in cycles of privation. I am conscious that tourism industry can have negative impacts, though it's sometimes hard to know what to do about it.

The backpacker segment is undoubtedly one of the fastest growing segments of the tourism trade. Research has shown that backpackers spread their expenditure over a wider geographic area, bringing benefits to remote and otherwise economically depressed regions through their expenditure. Ghana stands as one of the destinations in the West African sub-region that are drawing the attention of backpackers, mostly because she abounds in budget accommodation facilities, authentic local cultures and adventure sites, not leaving out the general inexpensive nature of the destination, which is also a strong driver. This book examines issues relating to the background characteristics of backpackers who travel to Ghana, activities undertaken, motivations for traveling and expenditure patterns, using the Cape Coast-Elmina conurbation. It proffers recommendations regarding how more backpackers could be attracted to the country and tapped to benefit the economically depressed regions in the country, thereby, reducing poverty levels while spreading development through tourism. The book is useful to researchers in the field of contemporary tourism as well as policy makers in the tourism industry.

It is proposed that effective and efficient coordination of the disciplines of revenue management, marketing, sales and e-commerce leads to Revenue Management Integration (RMI), which has a positive effect on financial performance and competitiveness. The thesis aims at identifying key linkages among the disciplines and creates a guideline of how the integration may be achieved. Using multivariate regression, it is tested with 30 hotels, affiliated to eight of the largest hotel chains in Germany, whether Revenue Management Integration is positively related to financial performance. The study showed that integrated revenue management is positively related to RevPAR performance in hotel properties, while the relationship to other profitability measures, such as Return on Equity (ROE) and Operating Profit Margin (OPM) did not yield clear results.

An assessment of Martin Heidegger's notion of releasement (Gelassenheit) is essential due to former misconceptions concerning its applicability for environmental ethics. Recent material on Heidegger is bringing new interest in the practical applicability of Gelassenheit for eco-phenomenology. This book examines the claims of secondary literature, both positive and negative, and compares that with Heidegger's Gelassenheit (1959), translated as Discourse on Thinking. Gelassenheit, when viewed as a process rather than static, holds resources for environmental responsibility. Heidegger's Gelassenheit gives us another understanding of our relation to nature, a self-emerging relation that is non-objectified. Gelassenheit offers the field of eco-phenomenology an ethic that goes beyond the subject-object dualism, a non instrumental ethic that holds potential for how to treat nature in the technological world in which we live. This book isaddressed to Heidegger scholars, environmentalethicists, eco-phenomenologists, environmentalscientists, environmental studies scholars, andcontinental philosophers.

Before selecting the appropriate cropping plan for optimal farm plan, local specific factors such as labor availability on time and market access for organic products are also crucial. Economic performance was higher at conventional farms whereas environmental result in terms of nitrogen and phosphorous surplus, organic farming has shown a better performance. Therefore, continuation of organic farming is crucial to support higher economic and environmental performance.

Companies are developing strategies to realize value based upon the concept of sustainability. Businesses recognize that sustainability can create a strategic advantage, and can become instrumental to their long-term viability. The concept has dramatically expanded the scope of measuring organizational performance into the economic, social, and environmental components that are often referred to collectively as the "triple bottom line." Organizations are discovering that specific products and processes can have profound environmental and social implications besides normal economic benefits. Within this context, organizational decision-makers must contend with numerous stakeholder issues, pressure from environmental agencies, and increased social consciousness that affects workers, consumers, and communities. These factors must be balanced by a reasonable return on investment and long-term organizational success. The interaction between these conflicting pressures and barriers makes it difficult for organizations to adopt sustainability strategies.
