Dividends are important for the shareholders as well as for the managers of the company. In a firm dividend decision affects the capital structure of a firm. Presence of debt in the capital structure of a firm restricts the firm in certain areas and these restrictions sometimes compel the companies to go for the omission of dividends or to set a lower dividend payout ratio. Lower dividend payout refers to the higher retained earnings, higher liquidity and lesser chances of getting into more debt. This study aims to find the relationship and impact of financial leverage on the dividend policy of the firms in the Chemical and Pharmaceutical Sector and the Fuel and Energy Sector listed at Karachi Stock Exchange (Pakistan). The results of the study revealed that Fuel and Energy Sector is more indebted than the Chemical and Pharmaceutical Sector and the financial leverage has a negative relationship with the dividend payout ratio of the firms.

The factors that were contributing to the level of English proficiency among IIUM undergraduate students were language anxiety, students' attitude and also peers, parental and teacher influences. The response of the stock market to news of earnings and dividend changes is important for investors. This monograph provides a theoretical model of realised equity returns which assumes linear forms for the dividend and earnings processes, and a discounted dividend model for price. Price is then derived as a nonlinear function of the dividends, earnings, dividend equation coefficients and earnings process coefficients. The model for realised return is tested using data for 90 U.S. firms listed on the New York Stock Exchange over a 44 year period. The results indicate changes in earnings and dividends (scaled by lagged price), the dividend policy parameters and the parameters of the earnings process are explanatory factors for equity returns. This returns model provides a theoretical foundation for investigations into realised equity returns. Thus, the analysis reveals avenues for further research into the theoretical determinants of equity returns and may be useful to academics with an interest in price determination.

Despite recent studies, theory cannot explain why only 10 % of all family businesses make it to the third generation. The aim of this dissertation is to identify critical success factors for succession in family businesses.Methodology: A qualitative multiple-case study design with third-generation family businesses, two from Germany and one from the UK was employed. A cross-case analysis was carried out to identify critical success factors and then complemented by a single-case analysis.Findings: Nine of the ten tested hypotheses were confirmed. These were successor development, professionalization, knowledge transfer, capital structure, corporate governance, family harmony, stepping aside, succession planning and long-term orientation. The hypothesis about dividend policy was not confirmed. No significant differences were found to be based on national influence.Practical Implications: From the results, a new model for family business succession is developed which leads to four best practice recommendations. This study aimed at investigating the factors influencing choice of degree courses among female students at the University of Nairobi in the 2010/2011 cohort. Factors affecting choice of degree courses has been of concern especially as it directly impacts on the Government policy on Gender(GoK ,2005) that requires 30% of all jobs be held by women across all careers. A knowledge gap exists on the reasons for undergraduate female students choices of various degrees courses at university level. Reasons influencing the career choices among women students has been postulated to include self-efficacy, socio-economic factors, gender factors and lack of adequate information or poor career guidance. The moderating and intervening variables such as university admission criteria, performance at the National examinations, family background and , teachers and peer influence, school facilities, national education policies have been found in this study as possible contributing factors to the choice of degree courses and careers among female students in Universities in Kenya.

The submersed cultivation of organisms in sterile containments or fermenters has become the standard manufacturing procedure, and will remain the gold standard for some time to come. This book thus addresses submersed cell culture and fermentation and its importance for the manufacturing industry. It goes beyond expression systems and integrally investigates all those factors relevant for manufacturing using suspension cultures. In so doing, the contributions cover all industrial cultivation methods in a comprehensive and comparative manner, with most of the authors coming from the industry itself. Depending on the maturity of the technology, the chapters address in turn the expression system, basic process design, key factors affecting process economics, plant and bioreactor design, and regulatory aspects.

But it majorly depends on the changes taking place in all of the above mentioned factors. The current study look into the impacts of political issues compared with technological issues on economies of developing countries. The purpose to narrowly focus the developing countries here is to go deep into the details of the reasons based on political and technological factors which are not letting the developing countries to grow and progress in the modern world. The literature has already identified many factors that are hindering the economic growth of countries but very little research has been done on this topic specific to the context of developing countries so this research study would be more focused toward this area. Developing countries as the name indicates are the countries which are struggling to get developed and thus they have to pay more attention toward problems occurring due to political, technological and several different issues. Another important fact to mention here is that although previous studies have identified individual impacts of different factors like political, technological, social and cultural factors etc on the economy of individua...

Seminar paper from the year 2009 in the subject Business economics - Banking, Stock Exchanges, Insurance, Accounting, grade: 1,3, University of Hohenheim (Lehrstuhl für Bankwirtschaft und Finanzdienstleistungen), language: English, abstract: The question about capital structure is one of the most important issues which the management of a company faces in implementing their daily business. Therefore, the question of which factors affect capital structure decisions attracts high attention in the past and recent literature on capital structure. There are many papers providing valuable insights into capital structure choices, starting with the paper of Modigliani and Miller (1958). The MM-Theorem is generally considered a purely theoretical result since it ignores important factors in the capital structure decision like bank-ruptcy costs, taxes, agency costs and information asymmetry. Based on this paper many other theories which consider factors neglected by Modigliani and Miller have been evolved. Two major theories are the Tradeoff- and the Pecking-Order-Theory. The former loosens assumptions stated in the MM-Theorem by including bankruptcy costs and taxes while the latter introduces information asymmetry into the capital structure discussion. Chapter 2.1 will give a brief overview of these theories. For complexity reasons these models cannot capture all relevant factors affecting the capital structure policy of a company. However, all these theories disregard one cru-cial fa...

This research examines the trading behavior of investors on the French stock market during the ex-dividend period, between 2003 and 2008. The analysis of the French Tax Code confirms, the capital gains and the dividends are taxed in a different manner, hence the fiscal system creates a tax heterogeneity among different group of stockholders. Consequently, it creates an opportunity for tax-induced trading several days around the ex-date. Our empirical results show significant abnormal trading volumes during the ex-dividend period. The excess trading volumes are the most pronounced in 2003 and 2004, when the investors were heterogeneous not only with respect to the tax rates, but as well with respect to the pre-tax value of dividends. On the other hand, the lowest trading volumes are recorded in 2008 due to equilibration of capital gains and dividend taxation. Putting these three observations together, one may conclude, that in fact, some tax-motivated trading is taking place on the French stock market.
