Zakariya Belkhamza Creating a Culture for Information Systems Success

It has been widely reported that issues related to organizational context appear frequently in discussions of information systems success. The statement that the information system did not fit the behavioral context in an organization is often part of the explanation of why particular information system encountered unanticipated resistance and never met expectation. While this context has been intensively studied, we still lack evidence on how this organizational context is affecting the success of information system from a managerial action perspective. This type of managerial involvement is often neglected to the extent that it became an essential obstacle to organizational performance. The objective of Creating a Culture for Information Systems Success is to assist CIOs and IT managers on how to use their managerial actions to create a suitable cultural environment in the organization, which leads to a successful implementation of information systems. This book will also provide guidelines for managers on how to create this organizational context, measure it, and ensure it leads to a successful implementation and use of information systems. The main theme is to explain how behavioral context of an organization led by their managers and executives would lead to the success of the information systems function.

This book addresses the field of geographic information extraction and retrieval from textual documents. Geographic information retrieval is a rapidly emerging subject, a trend fostered by the growing power of the Internet and the emerging possibilities of data dissemination. After positioning his work in this field in Chapter 1, the author makes proposals in the following two chapters. Chapter 2 focuses on spatial and temporal information indexing and retrieval in corpora of textual documents. Propositions for both spatial and temporal information retrieval (IR) are made. Chapter 3 tackles the use of generalized spatial and temporal indexes, which are produced from there in the framework of multi-criteria IR. Geographic IR (GIR) is discussed at length, since this IR combines the criteria of spatial, temporal and thematic research. The author provides a rich bibliographical study of the current approaches focused on the modeling and retrieval of spatial and temporal information in textual documents, and similarity measures developed thus far in the literature. The book concludes with a broad perspective of the remaining scientific challenges. Several areas of research are discussed, such as integration of a domain-based ontology, modeling of spatial footprints from the interpretation of spatial relation, and parsing of relations between features deemed relevant within a document resulting from a GIR process. Contents Foreword, Christophe Claramunt. 1. Access by Geographic Content to Textual Corpora: What Orientations ? 2. Spatial and Temporal Information Retrieval in Textual Corpora. 3. Multicriteria Information Retrieval in Textual Corpora. 4. General Conclusion. About the Authors Christian Sallaberry is currently Assistant Professor at the Law, Economics and Management Faculty in Pau, France. His current research interests are in the fields of geographical information retrieval (GIR) in textual corpora: spatial, temporal and thematic information recognition, analyzing, indexing and retrieval. He is interested in spatial, temporal and thematic criteria combinations within a GIR process.

How Geographic Redundancy Can Improve Service Availability and Reliability of Computer-Based Systems Enterprises make significant investments in geographically redundant systems to mitigate the very unlikely risk of a natural or man-made disaster rendering their primary site inaccessible or destroying it completely. While geographic redundancy has obvious benefits for disaster recovery, it is far less obvious what benefit georedundancy offers for more common hardware, software, and human failures. Beyond Redundancy provides both a theoretical and practical treatment of the feasible and likely benefits from geographic redundancy for both service availability and service reliability. The book is organized into three sections: Basics provides the necessary background on georedundancy and service availability Modeling and Analysis of Redundancy gives the technical and mathematical details of service availability modeling of georedundant configurations Recommendations offers specific recommendations on architecture, requirements, design, testing, and analysis of georedundant configurations A complete georedundant case study is included to illustrate the recommendations. The book considers both georedundant systems and georedundant solutions. The text also provides a general discussion about the capital expense/operating expense tradeoff that frames system redundancy and georedundancy. These added features make Beyond Redundancy an invaluable resource for network/system planners, IS/IT personnel, system architects, system engineers, developers, testers, and disaster recovery/business continuity consultants and planners.

Alexander Mircescu Systems and Processes Defined by the Substances Matter, Energy, and Information in the Existing Forms Space, Time, and Causality

Scientific Essay from the year 2017 in the subject Engineering - System Science, grade: -, , course: -, language: English, abstract: Matter, energy, and information are the substances which define systems and processes which are observed in space, time, and causality.Automation systems are the most general systems known in engineering, since they couple the management of matter, energy, and information in space, time, and causality. Indeed, such systems define entire production processes where materials are processed, transported, and stored. The production processes of materials require (mostly electrical) energy needed for the operating machines, such that energy has also to be transformed, transported, and stored. The machines are controlled by computers, such that information flows are also present, implying that information has also to be processed, communicated among the operating machines, and stored. In order to formalize the description of such automation processes we will define a system and a process in a deductive manner in this chapter. This definition will appear astonishing at this step, but will be clarified in the following chapters explaining what information and causality are, and how they behave in physics together with matter, energy, space, and time.
