Role play and foreign language learning helps the learners to develop speaking skills within defined social contexts. Languages are always spoken within certain defined spacio-social context. The learning of French as a foreign language in Kenya takes cognizance that oral skills are important to facilitate competent communication in any given language. The Kenyan reality of learning oral French skills within a learning set-up in Kenyan secondary schools is well presented in this text. The salient challenges are also highlighted since language learning is normally not a smooth sail for the learner and for the teacher who plays a pivotal facilitation role in guiding the learner to imbibe the vital communicative skills in the language that is being taught. On the whole role play is not just a language learning activity; it is an activity that provides impetus which propels human development in ist entire gamut of activities. A conspicuous hint on the importance of role play in our daily lives is also presented in this text with some examples well presented and cited in this write-up. Stephen Kraschen's Montior Model on language acquisition and the Grounded Theory which helps to interprete social research findings have been used to analyze the data which was derived from the inquiry done in the Kenyan secondary schools. The classical importance of role play and simulation in the learning process has been well underscored in this particular text.

This book highlights professionalism and effectiveness of the teacher counsellor in student Guidance and Counselling in secondary schools in Nandi County, Kenya. The author points out that in Kenya, teachers are not trained as professional counsellors yet every school has a Guidance and Counselling Department. Jepkemboi establishes that Guidance and Counselling in secondary schools is not the responsibility of teacher counsellors per se; rather, other stake holders such as school chaplains, parents, head teachers and peer counsellors play a role in Guidance and Counselling services. She observes that Guidance and Counselling facilities, in secondary schools, are not adequate and effective. Therefore, the author recommends that the government trains and deploys teacher counsellors to schools for effective co-ordination of Guidance and Counselling programs. She posits that there should also be a continuous professional development for the present teacher counsellors to equip them with knowledge and skills on effective Guidance and Counselling. This book is a must-read for teacher educators, professional school counsellors, school teachers and school principals in Kenya and beyond.

The focal point of this text is unrest in secondary schools in Kenya. Having gone through the three levels of education in Kenya, (that is primary, secondary and university) and with a long teaching experience, noted that the most serious bottleneck facing our education system is the indiscipline that leads to unrest or strikes in schools and universities. This often escalates into massive destruction of private and public property by students any time they go on rampage. There is need for the Education sector to address the challenge in relation to student discipline. In order to achieve the goals of National education and become a middle level economy by 2030. The nation must awaken to reforms that would help bring change in society. Careful considerations can be made to ensure that unrest is a thing of the past in learning institutions in Kenya by embracing dialogue, collective and participative decision making in learning institutions.

Schools are supposed to be safe and conducive for learning to take place. In order for this to take place there has to be serious and effective implementation of the student discipline policy. The discipline of students and how the policy governing it should be implemented is a major concern of teachers, administrators and education policy makers. Having a student discipline policy alone is not enough to having safe and conducive learning environment. How it is implemented makes the difference between safe schools and those affected by student problem behavior. One of the major concerns of administrators and teachers at the beginning of each school year and term is how discipline will be maintained on both the school-wide level and inside the classroom so that learning effectively takes place. The major concern of schools both private and public in my country Uganda these days is how to effectively implement student discipline policy so as to avoid student strikes and their accompanying violence and destruction of school property. Student violence and problem behavior should be a concern of all schools and a well implemented student discipline policy can help to minimize them.

Provision of quality secondary education is known to provide a bridge between Primary, the labour market and tertiary education. The Jomtien conference in 1990 and the Dakar Declaration of 2000 have provided the benchmark for countries to improve their secondary education to realize education for all goals (UNESCO 2005). In this regard, Kenyan government in 2003 introduced free primary education and in 2008 began subsidized Secondary education. This initiative was meant to address critical challenges such as illiteracy, low quality education, low transition rate from Primary schools and low completion rates at secondary level. The purpose of this study therefore was to establish the role of subsidized secondary school funding programme in enhancing access to quality Education in Sabatia Sub-County, Kenya. Specifically, the study was to assess the ways in which subsidized education affected access, curriculum implementation, infrastructural development and personnel effectiveness in Sabatia Sub-County.

The definition of quality education depends upon the subject's perspective. For example, for the students it may stand for the facilities provided to them; for parents it may be the learning outcomes; for teachers it may be the improvement of teaching learning processes; for prospective employers it may be the nature of the output. Secondary education takes a vital part in the formation of active citizens and also plays a critical role in addressing the emerging human development concerns in countries engaged in building knowledge societies to stay connected to the process of globalization. The role of secondary education in the growth of a nation is paramount and significant, more particularly in developing countries. Secondary education is the single largest supplier of labour force in most of the developing countries, including India. In view of the relation between education and economic growth in a less developed state like India, it is not the highly sophisticated manpower but the middle level (secondary) manpower that is necessary for enhancing the economic growth. This study deals with secondary education in Tripura, India. Academicians, researchers and students who are interested in studying secondary education in general and secondary education of Tripura in particular are the target group of this book which will surely help them to understand the problem of quality secondary education in India.

Globalization has challenged and changed roles for governments, non-profits, and non-governmental institutions for countries in the Global South. It has similarly spawned the births of numerous manifestations of non-governmental institutions, which potentially complement the approximately 7,000-9,000 higher education institutions that exist worldwide. Improving education is an oft-cited goal of many countries' development efforts-including Kenya, in her most recent Vision 2030 plan for development-yet many scholars and students alike fall short when they deem only primary or secondary education as the main avenues to realize development goals. This exploratory, qualitative study considers if Kenyan higher education public or private institutions play a role in the country's development process.
