This volume addresses the relationship of adult education and health from different perspectives. One task of adulthood is caring for one's health and, for many, caring for the health of children, a partner or spouse, and/or aging parents. Changes in health or the desire for improved health often prompt the need for individuals to learn–and adult education can play a vital role in enabling this learning. Editor Lilian H. Hill, associate professor of adult education at the University of Southern Mississippi, and contributing authors assemble a comprehensive review of the critical issues involved including How adults learn while coping with chronic illness Health education within adult literacy, adult basic education, and English as a Second Language classes Approahces to help adults evaluate and learn from online information The influence of globalism on health and more. Concluding with Hill's own argument that health is a social justice issue, the volume illustrates how adult educators need to be involved in health education because they have valuable skills and knowledge to contribute, and because it is a meaningful arena in which to demonstrate the field's commitment to equity and social justice. This is the 130th volume of the Jossey-Bass quarterly report series New Directions for Adult and Continuing Education. Noted for its depth of coverage, New Directions for Adult and Continuing Education is an indispensable series that explores issues of common interest to instructors, administrators, counselors, and policymakers in a broad range of adult and continuing education settings, such as colleges and universities, extension programs, businesses, libraries, and museums.

Master's Thesis from the year 2008 in the subject Health Science, California State University, Northridge, language: English, abstract: This project focused on implementing a needs assessment to measure baseline knowledge of college females on fertility awareness and to see if there was an interest for a curriculum addressing fertility awareness. The sample consisted of one hundred and fifty-seven (N = 157) college females who were given a needs assessment on their knowledge of the menstrual cycle, self-efficacy in interpreting fertility biomarkers, and desire for educational opportunities in fertility awareness. Statistical analysis showed a small correlation between an increase in age and self-efficacy in fertility awareness and Hispanic/Latinos scored significantly higher than Black/African Americans on the self-efficacy scale. The results of the needs assessment also indicated a desire for an educational opportunity in fertility awareness. Four content experts validated the curriculum that was created from the needs assessment, using a 10-point Likert scale. Future research needs to focus on racial and ethnic discrepancies on knowledge of the menstrual cycle and health education programs need to focus on menstrual and fertility awareness education for adult women.

Explore the multiple ways adults learn through their bodies. Embodied or somatic learning is a way of learning that relies on the body’s knowledge. Our most basic form of learning in childhood is preverbal; however, traditional schooling forces us to check our bodies at the door, requiring us to sit at a desk and raise our hands, focusing primarily on cognition to the exclusion of other ways of knowing. By the time we reach adulthood, “being in our bodies” is a foreign concept and a source of discomfort for many of us. This volume challenges the dominant paradigm of how knowledge is constructed and shared. Embodied learning is examined through a variety of practice contexts, including higher education, community education, health care, and the workplace, and through multiple methods, including dance, theater, and outdoor experiential education. This is 134th volume of the Jossey-Bass quarterly report series New Directions for Adult and Continuing Education. Noted for its depth of coverage, it explores issues of common interest to instructors, administrators, counselors, and policymakers in a broad range of adult and continuing education settings, such as colleges and universities, extension programs, businesses, libraries, and museums.

India has experienced rapid urbanization in the past decades. Urban population of the country has increased from 62 million in 1951 to 286 million in 2001. Rapid urbanization is associated with better socioeconomic and health conditions in urban than rural areas due to increased opportunity of education & employment and improved health infrastructures within the cities. On the contrary, the rapid growing urbanizations is characterized as typically overcrowded, polluted, lack basic services such as clean water and sanitation and exposed to infectious diseases. Along with unhygienic and health threatening surroundings, irregular use of recommended health practices, high cost of health facility and accessibility make the health of urban poor vulnerable. But, existing health programme such as National Rural Health Mission is directed to improvement of health and health care in rural India and overlook the urban poor who may enjoy little or no health advantage over their rural counterparts. Considering the need this study pointed out the health and health care vulnerability among urban poor of India over past 13 years.

This is the first New Directions volume related to young adult learners since 1984. Then, as now, young adults are an important segment of the adult population but have received scant attention in the adult education literature. Increasingly, youths and young adults are enrolling in adult education programs and in doing so are changing the meaning of adulthood. Given the significant demographic, technological, and cultural shifts during the past 30 years, there is an increasing need for practitioners and program planners to reconsider what constitutes “adult” and “adult education.” An understanding of the changing meaning of adulthood is fundamental to developing programs and policies that will address the needs of younger learners, and we believe it is time for an updated discussion among adult educators and scholars in other disciplines. This sourcebook is designed to reignite the discussion related to meeting the educational needs of young adults along with a timely and interdisciplinary discussion that highlights the transitional needs of young adult learners. This is the 143rd volume of the Jossey Bass series New Directions for Adult and Continuing Education. Lifelong learning has become essential not only for professionals, but also for those they serve. Continuing professional education (CPE), an umbrella term used to describe the continuum of formal, nonformal, and informal learning opportunities that enable practicing professionals to continue to learn and to maintain professional competence across their careers, is the focus of this collection. The volume explores, analyzes, questions, and critiques CPE trends and issues across a variety of contexts, and it highlights new thinking and developments to assist providers and practitioners to re-envision their roles and set new directions in the field of CPE. Zakarie Ahmednour Ali The relationship between tax education dimensions and tax compliance behaviour

Thesis (M.A.) from the year 2017 in the subject Business economics - Accounting and Taxes, grade: 4, , language: English, abstract: This study investigates the relationship between tax education dimensions and tax compliance behaviour among salaried taxpayers in Mogadishu, Somalia. This study is motivated by low tax compliance and low tax education in Somalia. Specifically, the objectives of this study were to examine the relationships between efforts for tax learning, awareness of tax laws and understanding of tax laws; and tax compliance behaviour among salaried taxpayers in Mogadishu, Somalia. To achieve the research objectives, primary data were collected through administrating survey questionnaires to salaried taxpayers in Mogadishu, Somalia. The data were analysed using multiple regression analysis. The findings of the study indicate that efforts for tax learning had a negative and significant relationship with tax compliance behaviour. On the other hand, the awareness of tax laws and understanding of tax laws had a positive and insignificant relationship with tax compliance behaviour. Efforts for tax learning contributes the most towards tax compliance behavior. Therefore, the policymakers in Somalia should focus more on the most important contributing factor, i.e. efforts for tax learning, to enhance tax compliance and ultimately mitigate the problem of noncompliance in Somalia.

Learning transfer is the use of skills and knowledge acquired in one situation or setting in a different environment. It is, fundamentally, the point of education. By consciously building it into our curricula, syllabi, and practice, we can greatly enhance the likelihood that students will integrate their learning and their lives. This issue examines learning transfer across the breadth of adult education. The authors approach the question practically, looking at techniques such as experiential or problem-based learning and the use of classroom technology as well as the perspectives of brain research, the effects of race and culture, and the context and complications of personal change. Each chapter offers practitioners a thoughtful outlook that will help them plan for and implement learning transfer in their particular area of focus. This book provides detail information about the KAP level of female adolescents on SRH in Rural Communities of Srilanka. It is of high interest to get to know the Knowledge, Attitude and Practice (KAP) level and health seeking behavior of adolescents and to see how they deal with the respective health problems, particularly in rural Sri Lanka. The lack of adequate information sources, self awareness among adolescents and access to services in the community are the main determinants for the low KAP level among adolescents with regard to RH-related issues. The unavailability of specific ARH service centers were found to be one of the main factors affecting adolescents' health service seeking behavior in these areas. Similarly, doubt of breaking confidentiality when visiting the facility and receiving services were prevailing. This is another discouraging factor for Adolescents' SRH seeking practice. Due to the unavailability of friendly health services, constantly existing traditional beliefs and social norms and the lack of sensitivity toward SRH among parents, adolescents are being discouraged to visit HF.

The extent to which self-reported years of education corresponds to real acquisition of literacy skills remains largely opaque, especially in Zambia, where past access of adults to education is very unevenly distributed.A sample of 324 neurologically intact Zambian adults was collected through self-administered questionnaires and the Zambia Neurobehavioral assessment battery. Results revealed a moderate positive association between literacy and cognitive test performance however this relationship was not as strong as that of education which predicted cognitive test scores better than literacy.
