Adeline Mpuya Identification and Awareness level of Students on Universities Brand

For more than ten years, South Africa has been revamping its higher learning education system as part of a broader national reform movement aimed at overcoming the divisions caused by the now obsolete apartheid regime. The higher education sector has been transformed through a series of mergers and incorporations aimed at collapsing 36 universities and technikons into 22 institutions. Because of this, the concern about the new institution identity that will accommodate the merging institutions has become an issue of strategic importance. The identity of an institution matters because it creates identification. The identification produces strategic alignment and a unity of purpose between internal stakeholders and the institution. This book, therefore helps to shade light on the challenges facing brand managers in communicating their universities identity to students (strategic stakeholders)in a merged environment. And should be useful to corporate communication students.

Fabio Ayres, Rangaraj Rangayyan, J.E. Leo Desautels Analysis of Oriented Texture with Applications to the Detection of Architectural Distortion in Mammograms

The presence of oriented features in images often conveys important information about the scene or the objects contained; the analysis of oriented patterns is an important task in the general framework of image understanding. As in many other applications of computer vision, the general framework for the understanding of oriented features in images can be divided into low- and high-level analysis. In the context of the study of oriented features, low-level analysis includes the detection of oriented features in images; a measure of the local magnitude and orientation of oriented features over the entire region of analysis in the image is called the orientation field. High-level analysis relates to the discovery of patterns in the orientation field, usually by associating the structure perceived in the orientation field with a geometrical model. This book presents an analysis of several important methods for the detection of oriented features in images, and a discussion of the phase portrait method for high-level analysis of orientation fields. In order to illustrate the concepts developed throughout the book, an application is presented of the phase portrait method to computer-aided detection of architectural distortion in mammograms.Table of Contents: Detection of Oriented Features in Images / Analysis of Oriented Patterns Using Phase Portraits / Optimization Techniques / Detection of Sites of Architectural Distortion in Mammograms

An overview of the methods used for risk analysis in a variety of industrial sectors, with a particular focus on the consideration of human aspects, this book provides a definition of all the fundamental notions associated with risks and risk management, as well as clearly placing the discipline of risk analysis within the broader context of risk management processes. The author begins by presenting a certain number of basic concepts, followed by the general principle of risk analysis. He then moves on to examine the ISO31000 standard, which provides a specification for the implementation of a risk management approach. The ability to represent the information we use is crucial, so the representation of knowledge, covering both information concerning the risk occurrence mechanism and details of the system under scrutiny, is also considered. The different analysis methods are then presented, firstly for the identification of risks, then for their analysis in terms of cause and effect, and finally for the implementation of safety measures. Since Lord Rayleigh introduced the idea of viscous damping in his classic work «The Theory of Sound» in 1877, it has become standard practice to use this approach in dynamics, covering a wide range of applications from aerospace to civil engineering. However, in the majority of practical cases this approach is adopted more for mathematical convenience than for modeling the physics of vibration damping. Over the past decade, extensive research has been undertaken on more general “non-viscous” damping models and vibration of non-viscously damped systems. This book, along with a related book Structural Dynamic Analysis with Generalized Damping Models: Analysis, is the first comprehensive study to cover vibration problems with general non-viscous damping. The author draws on his considerable research experience to produce a text covering: parametric senistivity of damped systems; identification of viscous damping; identification of non-viscous damping; and some tools for the quanitification of damping. The book is written from a vibration theory standpoint, with numerous worked examples which are relevant across a wide range of mechanical, aerospace and structural engineering applications. Contents 1. Parametric Sensitivity of Damped Systems. 2. Identification of Viscous Damping. 3. Identification of Non-viscous Damping. 4. Quantification of Damping. About the Authors Sondipon Adhikari is Chair Professor of Aerospace Engineering at Swansea University, Wales. His wide-ranging and multi-disciplinary research interests include uncertainty quantification in computational mechanics, bio- and nanomechanics, dynamics of complex systems, inverse problems for linear and nonlinear dynamics, and renewable energy. He is a technical reviewer of 97 international journals, 18 conferences and 13 funding bodies. He has written over 180 refereed journal papers, 120 refereed conference papers and has authored or co-authored 15 book chapters.

Omar Pidani, Fitri Nurfatriani Can .People Plantation Forest. policy stimulate independent community-based tree growing activities in Indonesia.

Seminar paper from the year 2009 in the subject Forestry / Forestry Economics, grade: D+, The Australian National University (Fenner School of Environment and Society), course: Independent Research Project, language: English, abstract: Forest plantations are important in Indonesia for both conservation and development aspects of forest management. They can provide a sustainable supply of wood resources to meet the increasing demands of wood processing industries, rather than escalating pressure on natural forests reserved for conservation. Income from plantation forests can address the economic marginalisation of forest dependent people. Over the last three decades, three strategies have been put into practice to stimulate the development of both large-scale and small-scale plantation forestry in Indonesia: farm forestry, community forestry and community-company partnership. The success, however, has been limited. This paper reviews experience of these strategies in Indonesia, and considers this in the context of criteria and indicators for sustainable plantation development suggested in the literature. It then develops an analytical framework to assess whether a new policy proposed in Indonesia, "the People Plantation Forest" (PPF) policy, is likely to stimulate community-based tree growing activities. Our analysis suggests that out of six elements identified in the framework, local institutional and capacity building, along with production technology and market acces...

Sundaresan Sindhuja Seismic Reliability of Dam Structures

Reliability analysis of structures implies the estimate of the limit state probabilities of a structure under adverse/environmental loading. Most important aspect of seismic reliability analysis is identification of all uncertainties, methods for modeling and analysis, analytical formulation of the limit state surface and integration of probability density function. In the seismic reliability analysis of the dam structure, the limit state probability of the structure is integrated with the seismic risk of the site. In this study, Coulee concrete gravity dam structure is modeled and seismic reliability of the dam structure in the presence of full reservoir and empty reservoir are analyzed. The dam-reservoir and reservoir-foundation interactions are considered in the study. The transient analysis is done by considering El Centro and Loma Prieta earthquake record. The randomness of ground motion, uncertainties in its occurrence, definition of its intensity parameters are considered in seismic reliability analysis. The material uncertainty of the dam is included in the study.

Eda Keskin The Analysis of Alienation.entfremdung. in Being and Time

In this book, the modes of Marxist alienation, namely the alienation from Self, society, species-being, products and labour are analyzed in the conceptual context of Being and Time. This work expresses that Heideggerian philosophy is not at odds with Marxism on contrary to Adorno's arguments in The Jargon of Authenticity. Heidegger's ontologico-existential philosophy could be effective in the analysis of the problem with regard to socio-psychological causes and effects of alienation on which the method of political economy may remain inadequate. In particular, Dasein's free and authentic self-understanding which gets rid of the suppressive authority of publicness, the unifying idea of the ontological Being-with Others and the phenomenological insight into the nature can introduce a revolutionary perspective into the problems of alienation and mass cultures. In this context, the similarities in the approaches of Marx and Heidegger are discussed in detail. This analysis tries to form a new correlation between Heideggerian and Marxist philosophies and could make use for academics, any researchers on the concept of alieneation as well as the faithful readers Marx, Adorno and Heidegger.

Provides an important framework for data analysts in assessing the quality of data and its potential to provide meaningful insights through analysis Analytics and statistical analysis have become pervasive topics, mainly due to the growing availability of data and analytic tools. Technology, however, fails to deliver insights with added value if the quality of the information it generates is not assured. Information Quality (InfoQ) is a tool developed by the authors to assess the potential of a dataset to achieve a goal of interest, using data analysis. Whether the information quality of a dataset is sufficient is of practical importance at many stages of the data analytics journey, from the pre-data collection stage to the post-data collection and post-analysis stages. It is also critical to various stakeholders: data collection agencies, analysts, data scientists, and management. This book: Explains how to integrate the notions of goal, data, analysis and utility that are the main building blocks of data analysis within any domain. Presents a framework for integrating domain knowledge with data analysis. Provides a combination of both methodological and practical aspects of data analysis. Discusses issues surrounding the implementation and integration of InfoQ in both academic programmes and business / industrial projects. Showcases numerous case studies in a variety of application areas such as education, healthcare, official statistics, risk management and marketing surveys. Presents a review of software tools from the InfoQ perspective along with example datasets on an accompanying website. This research proposes a new model to identify conflicts in the requirement gathering process. The model is based on the matrix mechanism to identify the quality based conflicts. Various models are studied critically in this research with the help of a case study.A number of limitations have been observed from the studied models. The proposed model which is tested theoretically overcomes many of the above mentioned problems. The proposed model uses the matrix mechanism to identify the quality based conflicts and the conflicting quality attributes are mapped to low level functionality using the matrices to identify the potential conflicts. The proposed model achieves the simplification of automation, identification of conflicts among product and process requirements, identification of false conflicts, decreases the documentation overhead and transparent identification of conflicts. Most of these achievements are not completely under taken by most of the present models.

Seth T. Blakeman, Anthony R. Gibbs, Jeyanthan Jeyasingam Arming America at War a Model for Rapid Defense Acquisition in Time of War (PB)

This book follows the evolution of a model for quick and efficient national defense war fighting asset acquisition during time of war. It documents the case of a critically important war fighting acquisition program from initial needs identification and program start in 2006 through production and fielding in the period 2007-2010. The analysis focuses on the entire process of acquisition and contracting from concept development through getting the weapons system into action in Iraq, Afghanistan and elsewhere. The Mine Resistant Ambush Protected vehicles program (MRAP) is a rapid acquisition program procured within the context of the US Department of Defense's Acquisition Management and Joint Capabilities Integration and Development System (JCIDS) framework. The analysis in this book answers the following question: What are the key factors that explain the success of the MRAP program, with success defined as meeting program objectives and warfighter needs? In addition, this book addresses the critical trade-offs made within the MRAP program to develop it rapidly, and some of the potential long-term impacts of these decisions, both positive and negative, for rapid defense asset acquisition in time of war.

Jaime Martín León Li Regional Integration Process in South America. Analysis of institutions and policies of regional integration under the EU Framework

This book presents a review of the South American integration process in a global context, with the main factors of success and failure, by comparing it with the European Union development. It also presents South American integration in a regional context; with its subregional pacts and the development of the South American Union of Nations (UNASUR) and how the regionalization faced its stagnation and changed its objectives, replicating and amplifying successful experiences in the integration process. The book presents comparisons between South American and EU integration structures and policies featuring the supranational executive bodies concerned, the judicial structures, the legislative functions and the monetary systems plus common foreign and security policy and common social and development policy of both entities: three supranational institutions and three common policies that define a regional bloc. To avoid diffusing the research, only one of those dimensions receives a deeper analysis: the supranational executive bodies comparison. The second part of this book introduces the Game Theory, a shared-decision model with two or more players that have different priorities for the same decision. The Game Theory analysis is used here to evaluate two typical scenarios of South American regional policy conflicts, pointing out the important role of the exertion of supranational executive power to foster the integration process. The conclusions focus on the main challenges: the...

Vivienne Katjiuongua Towards Stakeholder Participation in the Initiation of Wto Disputes

The paper recognizes the trivial participation of African countries in the Dispute Settlement System (DSS) of the World Trade Organization (WTO). One of the main factors contributing to this state of affairs is identified as the absence of a platform for stakeholders to participate in consultation with their government(s). It is argued that such a platform will allow the members states to make an informed decision on whether it is in the national interest to be a party to the initiation of a dispute before the Dispute settlement body (DSB) or to join as a party to such a dispute, either as complainant or respondent. The paper identifies the advantages/benefits which may be derived from participating in the DSS, especially with stakeholders input in the process before, during and after the dispute cycle. From the analysis practical processes are suggested which can enhance active participation of various stakeholders in developing countries, with an emphasis on Sub-Saharan Africa. The paper concludes by suggesting a suitable legal framework for stakeholders to utilize and participate in the initiation of trade disputes where their interests are threatened or adversely affected.

Doctoral Thesis / Dissertation from the year 2013 in the subject Biology - Botany, , course: Doctor of Philosophy, language: English, abstract: Forests are an important natural 'brake' on climate change sequester and store more carbon than any other terrestrial ecosystem. The main carbon pools in forest ecosystems are the living biomass of trees and understorey vegetation and the dead mass of litter, woody debris and soil organic matter. The carbon stored in the aboveground living biomass of trees is typically the largest pool. Thus, estimating aboveground forest biomass carbon is the most critical step in quantifying carbon stocks and fluxes from forests. India is a large developing country known for its diverse forest ecosystems and is also a mega-biodiversity country. Forest ecosystems in India are critical for biodiversity, watershed protection, and livelihoods of indigenous and rural communities. The National Communication of the Government of India to the UNFCC has reported that the forest sector is a marginal source of CO2 emissions. India has formulated and implemented a number of policies and programmes aimed at forest and biodiversity conservation, afforestation and reforestation. All forest policies and programmes have implications for carbon sink and forest management. A number of studies highlighting carbon stocks of India forests at macrolevel utilizing Remote Sensing & Geographic Information System techniques have gained momentum. However, Carbon st...

Tripathi Sachchidanand, Raghubanshi Akhilesh Singh Response of Tropical Dry Forest Tree Species to Resource Variability

The emergence, establishment and growth of tree seedlings face very heterogeneous situations in tropical dry forests (TDFs). The pronounced seasonality in soil moisture availability affects the patterns of seed production, germination, survival and seedling development in plants. Light conditions vary seasonally in understorey of these forests, thereby affecting the growth of species components growing there. The patchy distribution and pulsation of nutrient release in the nutrient poor soils of these forests further restricts the growth of plants spatially and temporally. The plants in TDFs, therefore, exhibit a variation in life- history characteristics, which in combination modulate the response of species to these environmental drivers. Furthermore, interactions among these environmental drivers are a regular feature of natural ecosystems, and have a great significance in shaping of the community structure and dynamics. The book explores the response of TDF tree seedlings to the combined effect of resources i.e. light, water and nutrient. The findings will augment understanding of the researchers in plant ecology especially working in tropical dry forests.

Andreas Seip Antitrust Implications of Technology Consortia

Thesis (M.A.) from the year 2003 in the subject Law - Miscellaneous, grade: 1, University of Bonn, language: English, abstract: This thesis is to provide guidance for the antitrust analysis of technology consortia which is challenged by virtue of the various forms the inter-firm collaboration may take, the pooling of intellectual property rights (IPR) and the ambivalent impact this may have on competition. The starting point to a meaningful antitrust analysis of technology consortia is an understanding of the underlying economics. The following chapter is to briefly discuss the incentives of firms to cooperate, the contrasting stability issues prevailing in an anti-competitive cartel as opposed to innovation driven consortia, and the resultant welfare implications in terms of the benefits and risks of cooperation. This will allow an outline of the workable policy approach to be pursued in applying antitrust law. The third chapter focuses thereby on issues of antitrust analysis by distinguishing between two main types of technology consortia and their role in the innovation process. The assessment is to help the identification of the essential elements in antirust analysis ranging from relevant market definition to market power and intellectual property rights (IPR). In the fourth chapter, EC competition law is specifically examined against the discussed policy approach. This includes a consideration of relevant anti-competitive conduct relating to technology consortia under A...

Within this analysis I will start with comparing the different fields with each other, then I will compare the subcategories and finally examine the relations within the subcategories. Finally, a qualitative analysis will be performed, once again within the different semantic fields. In this respect, I will also examine the characteristics of pronouns in a separate section.

However, inevitability does not mean that the future is already predetermined. Even with inevitable forces at work, there is much that people can still do to impact the purpose, meaning, and form of developing trends. For example, it was inevitable that mobile phones would become ubiquitous. But the specific development of the iPhone was not inevitable; it was shaped by corporations and consumers. All of the forces shaping the future are becoming, cognifying, flowing, screening, accessing, sharing, filtering, remixing, interacting, tracking, questioning, and beginning. Ani Matei, Andy Constantin Leoveanu Logic and public administration. Towards a logic of administrative action

Scientific Study from the year 2014 in the subject Organisation and Administration, grade: 100, , language: English, abstract: Starting from the idea that public administration is a complex phenomenon, in order to be understood, it is necessary to use an interdisciplinary approach.Due to the complexity of this phenomenon, the science of administration has relations with several branches of science and with many scientific disciplines, among which an important role manifest: administrative law, management (in this sense emerging public management), economics (in the form of public economics), sociology (outlining a sociology of administration), psychology, theory of decision, logic (being able to discuss about a logic of the administration's action, a logic of the administrative norms) demographics, informatics etc.Logical analysis, in the concept of Gheorghe Enescu, "represents the analysis of the logical structure of a given process of thought (expressed in a text or discourse), for the purpose of verifying the correctness of the logic. Logical analysis presupposes the following steps" :1) analysis of language clarity and accuracy (manner in which the terms are defined and the sentences are formed);2) analysis of the manner in which classifications and/or divisions are performed (if any);3) analysis of arguments and, in general, of the logical coherence of thought;4) analysis of consistence of thought (of non-contradiction). "The main condition of a process o...

Rohrer Alexander The Process of Establishing Legitimacy

The process of establishing legitimacy in front of multiple stakeholder groups is a dynamic and multifaceted object through which a newly elected CEO has to navigate. The identification of practices, strategies and tools, applied by the new CEO in order to facilitate the establishment of respect, esteem and authority in front of internal and external audiences, is a vital element to fully understand the complexity of the CEO succession period. The perception, framing and sense-making of the new CEO's and stakeholders' actions as well as the interdependence between them, play an important role in the leader integration process and the introduction of strategic changes. In this thesis the theoretical knowledge from the existing literature on the topic is combined with insights from a case study conducted in a Swiss company. This synthesis leads to a framework which summarizes how a new CEO interacts with different stakeholder groups during the post succession period in order to facilitate the establishment of legitimacy in front of internal and external stakeholders.
