Indiscriminate disposal of textile effluent into water bodies cause major threat to the environment. The present study suggests a great potential of bacteria to remove color from the dye waste. By using enrichment culture technique bacterial isolate were obtained from the industrial effluent treatment plant from Ankleshwar, among these the culture which has better efficiency for dye decolorization under natural environmental conditions was selected. Effect of physicochemical factors on the efficiency of such bacterial isolates was also studied.

Sonocatalytic process was adopted to enhance the decolorization and mineralization of wastewater containing amaranth dye. Zeolite Y was used as the support material and modified using three different active metals i.e. Ti, La and Fe.The modification of the encapsulated TiO2 by Fe metal enhanced the decolorization efficiency of amaranth dye more efficiently than its modification with La metal. The maximum decolorization efficiency was about 97 % with maximum COD removal of 57 % after 120 min of reaction. The catalytic reaction was assisted by an ultrasonic irradiation source at 50 W for the output power and the frequency was 40 kHz. Different operational parameters were investigated for the best of higher catalytic activity.The developed sonocatalysts were successfully characterized using different characterization techniques.The Fe ions loaded onto encapsulated titanium caused a significant reduction in band gap energy from 3.55 eV for bare TiO2 to 2.8 for Fe loaded on encapsulated (0.8%Fe/Ti-NaY). The synthesized sonocatalyst possessed high surface areas and demonstrated high reusability potential for many consecutive cycles with acceptable amount of Fe leaching.

Neoplastic cells can develop resistance to a variety of drugs, even to those drugs that cells have never come across. This makes the cancer therapy more demanding & challenging, as clinicians have to take into consideration that the heavy medication they administer to the patients can be ineffective. This phenomenon acts as a motivation to explore the mechanisms behind molecular transport across the cell membrane. The most important aim of this research work is to detect whether there is a link between physical parameters of the cell, like the membrane charge density & the ionic accumulation, & the molecule's transport. We then build a mathematical model to explain & predict what happens during the experimental procedure. Our experiments show that the dye's crossing is influenced by alteration of the membrane potential. Using our mathematical approach, we approximate the dye crossing the cell membrane via competition between diffusion & electrostatic forces. In that way, we are able to predict a molecule's movement from the outside to the inside of the cell when the potential, the distribution of ions & the electrostatic properties of the membrane are known.

Anaerobic reactor alone was able to reduce COD (52%), turbidity (89%), EC (24%). Bioreactor was not efficient in meeting NEQs of Pakistan. So, post treatment of Anaerobic bioreactor effluents was carried out in CWs containing macrophytes (Arundo donax and Eichhornia crassipes) reduce COD (89%), turbidity (99%).Wetlands containing algal biomass were not effective in treating majority of water quality parameters. Inhibition of algal biomass was observed due to physicochemical characteristics of wastewater. The integrated treatment system consisting of IC bioreactor and macrophytes is a more suitable option to treat industrial wastewater.

The application of the microporous hollow fiber membrane contactor for gas absorption and stripping has gained considerable attention recently and is still a relatively new concept. In comparison with most membrane separation processes which use a dense selective layer on one side of the fibers, the microporous membrane used in the membrane contactor is not selective. Instead of the selective layer, a liquid flow is introduced in one side of the fiber that can absorb gas components physically or chemically. This leads to a higher mass transfer rate due to lower membrane resistance. Additionally, because there is no selective layer, a very small pressure drop across the membrane is required for mass exchange. Compared to the traditional columns membrane contactor has several advantages. Although the membrane wall introduces an additional resistance that does not exist in conventional towers, a higher specific surface area in these type of modules offers much higher mass transfer rates. On the urge of urbanisation, the use of synthetic dyes is increasing largely and its untreated effluent release causes serious environmental pollution affecting water bodies by disturbing the aquatic ecosystem, soil, plants, animals, humans. The recalcitrant nature of these dyes limits its treatment using conventional methods wherein biological methods using microorganisms are reported to completely mineralize the dyes lowering the release of degradation products. The present work focuses on the biodegradation of synthetic dyes by isolating bacteria from a dyeing unit. Soil samples from the dye contaminated soils was collected, its degradation potentiality was observed using three major dye of studies congo red, brilliant green and methylene blue within 24 hr incubation. Maximum decoloarized dye (congo red and brilliant green) were chosen, serially diluted to 10-5 and plated to obtain two distinct colonies from decolorized congo red (CR1, CR2) and three distinct colonies from decolorized brilliant green (BG1, BG2, BG3). The purpose of this research is the removal of AOX from industrial wastewaters, which also contain surfactants. We have used coagulation, a conventional physical and chemical process, to remove pollutants from wastewaters, and micellar-enhanced ultrafiltration (MEUF) to treat waters in accordance with the guidelines of sustainable development. In high concentrations, surfactants namely have the ability to form major clusters (micelles), causing the solubilization of organic molecules, such as AOX, which then remain on the ultrafiltration membrane. This method of industrial wastewater treatment is much more effective than other separation processes, as it enables us to simultaneously remove a large amount of organic and inorganic pollutants using surfactants, without having to add special chemicals.

Eggshell and membranes which are largely disposed of as waste are a reserve of many bioactive compounds with high economic and monetary value which can be extracted by the efficient separation of eggshell and membrane. Hence, this work concentrates on finding a suitable method for separating the eggshell from membrane. First, the effect of microwave treatment on separation of eggshell and membrane was investigated. The response of a material to electromagnetic radiation depends upon its dielectric properties; therefore, the study of the dielectric properties of eggshell and membrane was carried out in the range of 200 MHz to 20 GHz and in the temperature range of 25 0C to 100 0C. In the second part of the study, the effectiveness of microwave treatment on separation of eggshell and membrane was analyzed in terms of reduction in total energy required to separate the eggshell and membrane and was termed as bond energy. For all microwave treatments, three factors with three levels each were considered. A Model for calculating the bond energy between the eggshell and membrane for all microwave treatments was established.
