Agriculture occupies a prominent place and plays a crucial role in the economies of developing countries. Agricultural development seems to be far more complex than that of industry. Agricultural credit markets in developing countries are characterized by dichotomy i.e., the co-existence of institutional as well as non-institutional sectors. The cost and availability of credit in these two sectors differs considerably. Small farmers have restricted access to organized sector, who are forced to borrow from non-institutional agencies at sky-high rates of interest. In India, the vital role of agriculture arises out of the position, the agrarian sector occupies in the overall economy of the country. Agriculture is the largest sector of economic activity and has a crucial role to play in the country’s economic development by providing food and raw materials and employment to a very large proportion of population, capital for its own development and surpluses for national economic development. The present book gives full information regarding primary agricultural credit societies in Nellore District of Andhra Pradesh, India.

Capital has been one of the most limiting factors in crop production in developing and underdeveloped countries. Hence, institutional credit has to play a significant role in liberating farmers from the clutches of private moneylenders by providing cheap, adequate and timely credit. However, credit is not an issue of quantity alone; it is a question quality aspects also. So, the increased flow of institutional credit at concessional rates is likely to be accompanied by many related social issues such as inadequacy, agricultural illusion in the form of mis-utilization and diversion of loan, lack of timeliness in credit delivery and high credit transaction costs. The study of the repayment behavior of the farmer borrowers and its determinants assume importance in this context. As the study aims to blend research tools for practical decision making, the study would be of use to researchers, policy makers, developmental agencies, trainers in agricultural banking as well as extension agents working among farmers for their welfare.

This study aimed at viewing regional disparity within the state of West Bengal, India, over a long span. The study attempted to examine the pattern of relative changes in agricultural development across districts between two sub-periods. ‘Agricultural Development Index’ has been constructed in different methods. Ranking Method and Weighted Composite Indexing Method have been used to construct the index besides Principal Component Analysis. The study tries to locate the prime factors associated with the level of agricultural development. Conceiving the multidimensional agricultural development space, we have limited our measurements on development as well as disparity to twenty important indicators. Suggestions on some policy measures for minimizing regional disparity in West Bengal have been advocated in the study.

West Bengal is rich with its enormous fish diversity; among these fish species recently some have been recognized as ornamental fishes due to their attractive coloration, shape, size etc. They are popularly known as indigenous ornamental fishes of West Bengal. The southern part of West Bengal holds a number of fresh water wetlands along with a vast estuarine area, which hold a number of indigenous ornamental fish species. So, a detail survey work has been conducted to collect in depth information on available indigenous ornamental fish species in four districts of South Bengal, namely North-24-Paraganas, South-24-Paraganas, Howrah and Kolkata. Seasonal variation of availability of the collected fish species in the four studied districts has also been recorded. This book will be helpful to gather basic knowledge about the available indigenous ornamental fish species of this particular part of South Bengal. Information on some possible conservation strategies for those indigenous ornamental fish species which have been observed to be present with low availability in the nature during the survey period has been noted down which will also be helpful for future endeavor.

Poverty and unemployment are the main problems faced by the rural people of India. Due to illiteracy, small-sized holdings, natural disasters, unemployment, uncertainties, lack of warehouses and communication, prices received by the sample members are not reasonable which has adverse impact on income level. Education and technology are also not up to the mark and these have led to backwardness of the area. Credit is necessary in time and in adequate amount to stimulate the tempo of agricultural production. Money-lenders have been the most important source of credit because it is easily available from then and no complicated procedure is involved. Money-lenders charge high rate of interest and sometimes they even exploit the farmers for his service. To restrict exploitation of farmers by money-lenders, Government took some initiatives and thus, Lead Banks, Regional Rural Banks (RRBs) and Co-operative Banks were established. But those institutions did not cause sufficient benefit to the poorest of the poor, so the concept of formation of SHGs came into reality. The role of SHGs in rural development in West Bengal context is inevitable.

This book is based on a research study conducted in the district of Birbhum of West Bengal, India. The study was conducted in four villages from two CD Blocks of the district. The district Birbhum is one of the backward districts of West Bengal and the economy is totally dependent on agriculture and allied activities. The regional disparity in terms of occupation, literacy rate, communication, availability of market and other facilities, soil fertility, irrigation facilities make a huge difference in the changing pattern of consumption expenditure incurred by the sample households. In this book I have tried to explain how a village is changing with time. How villagers became accustomed with the modern amenities and facilities and how they have been changing their livelihood. In some of the cases it is the impact of globalisation and in some of the cases the modern amenities entered in to the villages with their necessity - to run their livelihood properly. These changes even helped to change the rural economy. On the other hand there are some unchanged legacy already exist in the rural areas - like illiteracy, health indicators, gender inequality.

The Philippine economy has grown rapidly since 2010, but despite this growth, poverty and inequality remain high. Two-thirds of the poor live in rural areas, and the weak performance of the agriculture sector has contributed to the slow improvement in livelihoods. The challenge for agriculture will further increase, with climate change posing a growing threat to the sector. But agricultural transformation to spur sustained growth and reduce poverty is still possible under climate change with aggressive institutional reforms and implementation of the right mix of policies and programmes. The identification of the suitable policy and programme combination requires an accurate assessment of the key drivers of agricultural growth and food security; the impacts of climate change on agriculture and the overall economy; and the effectiveness of policies for adaptation and growth. This book addresses these big issues, focusing on enhancing the adaptation capacity of the Philippine agriculture sector. It is designed to provide a much-needed base of knowledge and menu of policy options to support decision- and policymaking on agriculture, climate change, and food security. The volume uses newly generated data, modelling outputs, and innovative analyses to provide a scientific basis for a variety of adaptation measures under different sets of climate change scenarios to guide decision-makers in strategic planning and policy formulation. “As we have actually experienced in Leyte, an isla...

Richness of benthic biodiversity is proved to be inversely related to the offshore distance because benthic nutrients deposition getting thinner with increasing offshore distance. Higher loss of benthic biodiversity takes place at shallower continental shelf closer to coast because of maximum benthic nutrient deposition at this submarine zone and vice versa. Agriculture is one of the most fundamental instruments for poverty reduction, food insecurity and sustainable development of a society throughout the world. Three out of every four people in the developing countries live in rural areas, and the livelihoods of about 60% of the population are dependent on agriculture. Therefore, promoting agriculture through the sustainable management of land and water resources is imperative for meeting the Millennium Development Goal of reducing poverty and hunger. Agriculture in India has a predominant position provides livelihood to two-thirds of the population, gives employment to around 52% of the workforce, and accounted for 15.7% of the gross domestic product in 2008-09. A sustainable and dynamic approach to agricultural development has remained of great concern to the government and priority for discourse in the policy arena as it has been confronting with numerous techno-institutional problems created by unfolding globalization and liberalisation of economy. Diversification of agriculture in favour of more competitive and high-value commodities is reckoned an important strategy to overcome these challenges.

Credit and credit risk permeates every corner of the financial world. Previously credit tended to be acknowledged only when dealing with counterparty credit risk, high-yield debt or credit-linked derivatives, now it affects all things, including such fundamental concepts as assessing the present value of a future cash flow. The purpose of this book is to analyze credit from the beginning—the point at which any borrowing entity (sovereign, corporate, etc.) decides to raise capital through its treasury operation. To describe the debt management activity, the book presents examples from the development banking world which not only presents a clearer banking structure but in addition sits at the intersection of many topical issues (multi-lateral agencies, quasi-governmental entities, Emerging Markets, shrinking pool of AAA borrowers, etc.). This book covers: Curve construction (instruments, collateralization, discounting, bootstrapping) Credit and fair valuing of loans (modeling, development institutions) Emerging markets and liquidity (liquidity, credit, capital control, development) Bond pricing (credit, illiquid bonds, recovery pricing) Treasury (funding as an asset swap structure, benchmarks for borrowing/investing) Risk and asset liability management (leverage, hedging, funding risk)

While the term benchmarking is commonplace nowadays in institutional research and higher education, less common, is a solid understanding of what it really means and how it has been, and can be, used effectively. This volume begins by defining benchmarking as “a strategic and structured approach whereby an organization compares aspects of its processes and/or outcomes to those of another organization or set of organizations to identify opportunities for improvement.” Building on this definition, the chapters provide a brief history of the evolution and emergence of benchmarking in general and in higher education in particular. The authors apply benchmarking to: Enrollment management and student success Institutional effectiveness The potential economic impact of higher education institutions on their host communities. They look at the use of national external survey data in institutional benchmarking and selection of peer institutions, introduce multivariate statistical methodologies for guiding that selection, and consider a novel application of baseball sabermetric methods. The volume offers a solid starting point for those new to benchmarking in higher education and provides examples of current best practices and prospective new directions. 1.1 INTRODUCTION A credit card is a small plastic card issued to users as a means of payment. It allows its holder to buy goods and services based on the holder's promise to pay for them, later. The issuer of the card creates a revolving account and grants a line of credit to the consumer (or the user) from which the user can borrow money to pay a merchant or for use as an advance . A credit card is different from a charge card: a charge card requires the balance to be paid in full each month. In contrast, credit cards allow the consumers a continuing balance of debt, subject to interest being charged. A credit card also differs from a cash card, in that it can be used like currency by the owner of the card. Most credit cards are issued by banks or credit unions, and are of the shape and size specified by the ISO/IEC 7810 standard as ID-1. And this is given as 85.60 ? 53.98 mm (33/8 ? 21/8 in) in size. 1.2 HISTORY OF CREDIT CARD The concept of using a card for purchases was delineated in 1887 by Edward Bellamy in his utopian novel Looking Backward. Examined here are the legal and practical reasons for the inefficiency of the legal framework of creditor protection in Nigeria. This is amply justified considering the critical role of credit in the promotion of economic growth and development and also bearing in mind the near calamitous consequences the 2009 financial crisis unleashed not only among Nigerian banks and financial institutions, and in the international financial system. The latter nearly led to socioeconomic catastrophe in Nigeria, as well as globally. It is hoped that book is found useful by government, policy makers, academics, corporate financial experts, investment bankers and other stakeholders to initiate and implement efficient policy actions to protect creditors in order to sustain the flow of credit, the engine of any economy.

Credit derivatives have been instrumental in the recent increase in securitization activity. The complex nature and the size of the market have given rise to very complex counterparty credit risks. The Lehman failure has shown that these issues can paralyse the financial markets, and the need for detailed understanding has never been greater. The Art of Credit Derivatives shows practitioners how to put a framework in place which will support the securitization activity. By showing the models that support this activity and linking them with very practical examples, the authors show why a mind-shift within the quant community is needed – a move from simple modeling to a more hands on mindset where the modeler understands the trading implicitly. The book has been written in five parts, covering the modeling framework; single name corporate credit derivatives; multi name corporate credit derivatives; asset backed securities and dynamic credit portfolio management. Coverage includes: groundbreaking solutions to the inherent risks associated with investing in securitization instruments how to use the standardized credit indices as the most appropriate instruments in price discovery processes and why these indices are the essential tools for short term credit portfolio management why the dynamics of systemic correlation and the standardised credit indices are linked with leverage, and consequently the implications for liquidity and solvability of financial institutions how Lévy processes and long term memory processes are related to the understanding of economic activity why regulatory capital should be portfolio dependant and how to use stress tests and scenario analysis to model this how to put structured products in a mark-to market-environment, increasing transparency for accounting and compliance. This book will be invaluable reading for Credit Analysts, Quantitative Analysts, Credit Portfolio Managers, Academics and anyone interested in these complex yet important markets.

Then our prime responsibility is to use state-of-the-art- technology and focus on research so that even after less resources of agriculture, we could be able to satisfy the need of people. So in order to satisfy the need of peoples, we need to plan very meticulously. The planning issues are very much related to the availability of right kind of data. Planners and decision makers at micro level have to depend upon spatial and non-spatial data for optimal interpretation. So we propose a analysis of crop research in India by using data mining technique. In this project, we have analyzed agriculture related data to discover some knowledge to understand the farming system in India and also help in socio-economic and institutional constraint face by farming community. This project will help to better understand and evaluate data by creating graphics display.

It focuses on those credit contracts in which the legal relationship between the consumer and the dominant party. This research is carried out in response to the problems linked to pre-contractual phase while negotiating a credit contract secured by security interest in movable property, as well as the issues linked to the recovery of the debts secured by security interest by the sale of the collateral which undermine the rights of the consumer credit. The research identifies that the protection of consumer credit should be based on the premise that if creditors are aware of the limitations on enforcing a security interest in movable property they will only advance credit if they can be confident in repayment by some other means. In conclusion, the research is expected to discuss about the proposed legal mechanisms on protecting consumer credit in security interest by proposing the government’s intervention for a consumer credit code and the consumer credit redress mechanisms to be established in case of realization of the security interest.

This book is intended for engineering graduate students and research and development scientists who are interested in mass (and heat) transfer in pipe bends under single and two phase flow. The emphasis is on the mass transfer, which is the rate limiting process in Flow Accelerated Corrosion. In particular, the effect of the flow dynamics under single phase flow and the phase interaction and redistribution under annular air-water two phase flow on the local mass transfer distribution is presented. The mass transfer distributions and regions of high mass transfer in different bend geometries are correlated to areas of failure under flow accelerated corrosion observed in the nuclear industry. The book presents a novel technique to obtain detailed mass transfer measurements in intricate geometries with evolving surface roughness.

This book offers managers a complete analysis of the various issues of credit risk management for trade credit financing instruments supported by applications to various types of markets and presents an analysis on risks associated with trade credit in supply chains. Trade credit finance is characterized by strong attractiveness deriving from risk mitigation, but the plurality of sources of credit risk (default and dilution risk) requires the implementation of a credit risk management system that exploits the broad knowledge developed by financing supply relationships. Consequently, financiers could be hindered from developing a full understanding of the underwritten risks and are thus unable or only partially able to evaluate their full potential to expand financial relationships over the credit capability of a single counterparty with respect to the supplier-debtor pair. The richness of the information available in trade credit financing is not an obstacle for the development of a modern risk management framework, but it must be calibrated to avoid distortions in the implementation. In addition, risk analysis in the supply chain is not limited to the crises of individual members but must assess the effects of such crisis on the entire supply chain and assess the specific risks of contagion and the favorable conditions for the propagation. This book offers managers a complete analysis of the various issues of credit risk management for trade credit financing instruments supp...
