Narmada, a river in central India flows in a rift valley through the state of Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and Gujarat is the important source of water supply and ground water recharge. Therefore watershed management planning and water resource management can be improved in rift valley after accurate simulation of hydrologic processes. In this study the SWAT (Soil and Water Assessment Tool) was used on Middle Narmada basin. The basic objective of the present study is to derive the parameters required for runoff modelling using the remote sensing and geospatial database and estimate the runoff of the Middle Narmada basin. The main input data for simulation of SWAT including Digital Elevation Model (DEM), Land use, Soil type, soil properties and hydro-climatological data, were appropriately collected. By providing all the inputs for model set up, SWAT model was simulated for the period of 15 years (1995-2010). The average annual surface runoff is about 244.54 mm. The model was calibrated and validated using SUFI-2 algorithm. The sensitivity analysis of the model to sub-basin delineation and Hydrological Response Unit (HRU) definition thresholds showed that the flow is more sensitive.

This report contributes to the discussion of interconnections between scarce resources by highlighting the nexus between land, water and energy (the LWE nexus). It focuses on a dynamic, integrated, and disaggregated analysis of how land, water and energy interact in the biophysical and economic systems. The report provides projections for the biophysical and economic consequences of nexus bottlenecks until 2060, highlighting that while the LWE nexus is essentially local, there can be significant large-scale repercussions in vulnerable regions, notably on forest cover and in terms of food and water security.The analysis is based on coupling a gridded biophysical systems model with a multi-regional, multi-sectoral dynamic general equilibrium modelling assessment. Numerical insights are provided by investigating a carefully selected set of scenarios that are designed to illustrate the key bottlenecks: one scenario for each resource bottleneck, plus two scenarios that combine all bottlenecks, with and without an overlay of climate change.

Within the lower portion of the watershed (defined as from the dams at Elephant Butte Reservoir in New Mexico and Red Bluff Reservoir in Texas co the Gulf of Mexico) arsenic, lead, and mercury appear at levels and/ or trends which may be of concern.Through the use of a geographic information system, this project evaluates the extent of contamination from selected toxic substances, identifies potential sources and/ or naturally-occurring conditions for the contribution of these toxic substances, and evaluates the potential for using Geographic Information Systems to model the watershed. Monitoring land use land cover change at all levels has become central element in sustainable development, natural resources management and environmental protection. Such daily issues of the FAO and others inspired me to conduct this work using RS data and GIS over the remnant forest area in south western part of Ethiopia, Bonga town and its environs, applying PCC change detection technique and Cellular Automata Markov LULCC model. The change detection involved processing of three Landsat images and PCC. Accordingly, a chained transition was observed between the land covers all at the expense of forest cover between the study years. The projection of change has also showed that if appropriate measures are not taken the study area will suffer from environmental degradation in the near future. Thereby, in this era of global environmental crisis, monitoring and management of land is unquestionable for all on the surface of the sphere. Thus, the empirical findings of this book can be used for detailed explanatory, impact assessment, prescription and evaluative studies on the subject. The present study is about malnutrition among tribal women and children in the kannad taluka of Aurangabad district of Maharashtra. We observed that most of children and their mothers were malnourished. We also found that large number of mothers had early marriages and pre-matured pregnancy.

Out of approx 31600 fish species recorded worldwide, more than 2463 fish species are present in Indian water bodies. Mahseer is the common name for several fresh water fish species of large scaled barbels (genera Tor, Neolissochilus, and Naziritor in the family Cyprinidae (carps) found in the Asian subcontinent and inhabits a wide range of Indian river-systems and has high demand as food and attraction for anglers as a sport fish. Mahseer are the most famous game fish known for its fighting spirit. In this monograph, cytogenetic profile of the 5 mahseer species has presented. Within the framework of research on macro-evolutionary processes in this species, which has not been characterized previously among different species and geographically isolated populations, information derived from simultaneous chromosomal localization and nucleotide sequences of 45S and 5S ribosomal RNA presented and discussed to better investigate the presence of discrete species/population specific marker.
