Saad El-Sayed Ibrahim Slip Boundary Value Problems in Micropolar Fluid Flow

The object of this book is an examination of the application of the theory of micropolar fluid, which presents a satisfactory mathematical model for the description of behavior of many industrially important fluid like biological science and engineering applications. The fluid flow is governed by two basic and independent vectors classical velocity vector representing translation and microrotation vector representing spin velocity. The slip boundary conditions for both the velocity and the microrotation are applied for particles of different geometries.

Nitesh Mittal, D Santhosh Kumar Numerical Simulation of Backward Facing Step Flow

The present thesis deals with the code development of a 2-D finite volume and lattice Boltzmann method for steady, incompressible fluid flow problems and the also the computational performance of both the methods is studied for various fluid flow problems. The former method uses Navier-Stokes equation to capture fluid motion. The code is based on SIMPLE algorithm for pressure-velocity coupling of incompressible flows using staggered grid arrangement. The diffusion term in the governing equations is discretized using deferred central-difference scheme and the convection term is discretized using deferred QUICK scheme. The latter one uses Boltzmann equation with D2Q9 model. The soundness of Lattice Boltzmann and finite volume method is checked by implementing it on test problems including Lid-driven cavity flow, Pipe flow and Backward-facing step (BFS) flow. All the results obtained in the present work are validated with the results available in the literature. The results obtained from both the methods were in excellent agreement with each other as well as with the published data. In pipe flow, the entrance length has been measured for various Reynolds numbers.

Md Kamruzzaman Magnetic Effects on Fluid Flow through a Rotating Straight Rectangular Duct

Master's Thesis from the year 2012 in the subject Physics - Electrodynamics, grade: 3, Khulna University, language: English, abstract: Fluid flow in a straight duct is of great importance. It has large applications in chemical and mechanical engineering. A lot of research works regarding fully developed flow have been carried out at different times. The aim of this thesis is to make some numerical calculations on the fluid flow in a rotating rectangular straight duct in presence of magnetic field which has been interested to the engineering communication and to the investigators dealing with the problem in many industrial applications. The results of this investigation may not have direct practical applications but are relevant to the problems mentioned above. The fluid flowing through a rectangular straight duct to rotate at a constant angular velocity about an axis normal to a plane including the duct is subjected to both Coriolis and centrifugal forces. Such rotating passages are used in cooling systems for conductors of electric generators. Flow in a rotating straight pipe is of interest because the secondary flows in this case are qualitatively similar to those in stationary curved system in view of the similar centrifugal mechanism including the secondary curved systems.

In fluid mechanics, velocity measurement is fundamental in order to improve the behavior knowledge of the flow. Velocity maps help us to understand the mean flow structure and its fluctuations, in order to further validate codes. Laser velocimetry is an optical technique for velocity measurements; it is based on light scattering by tiny particles assumed to follow the flow, which allows the local fluid flow velocity and its fluctuations to be determined. It is a widely used non-intrusive technique to measure velocities in fluid flows, either locally or in a map. This book presents the various techniques of laser velocimetry, as well as their specific qualities: local measurements or in plane maps, mean or instantaneous values, 3D measurements. Flow seeding with particles is described with currently used products, as well as the appropriate aerosol generators. Post-processing of data allows us to extract synthetic information from measurements and to perform comparisons with results issued from CFD codes. The principles and characteristics of the different available techniques, all based on the scattering of light by tiny particles embedded in the flow, are described in detail; showing how they deliver different information, either locally or in a map, mean values and turbulence characteristics.

This book bridges the gap between general plasma physics lectures and the real world problems in MHD stability. In order to support the understanding of concepts and their implication, it refers to real world problems such as toroidal mode coupling or nonlinear evolution in a conceptual and phenomenological approach. Detailed mathematical treatment will involve classical linear stability analysis and an outline of more recent concepts such as the ballooning formalism. The book is based on lectures that the author has given to Master and PhD students in Fusion Plasma Physics. Due its strong link to experimental results in MHD instabilities, the book is also of use to senior researchers in the field, i.e. experimental physicists and engineers in fusion reactor science. The volume is organized in three parts. It starts with an introduction to the MHD equations, a section on toroidal equilibrium (tokamak and stellarator), and on linear stability analysis. Starting from there, the ideal MHD stability of the tokamak configuration will be treated in the second part which is subdivided into current driven and pressure driven MHD. This includes many examples with reference to experimental results for important MHD instabilities such as kinks and their transformation to RWMs, infernal modes, peeling modes, ballooning modes and their relation to ELMs. Finally the coverage is completed by a chapter on resistive stability explaining reconnection and island formation. Again, examples from recent tokamak MHD such as sawteeth, CTMs, NTMs and their relation to disruptions are extensively discussed.

Combining previously unconnected computational methods, this monograph discusses the latest basic schemes and algorithms for the solution of fluid, heat and mass transfer problems coupled with electrodynamics. It presents the necessary mathematical background of computational thermo-fluid dynamics, the numerical implementation and the application to real-world problems. Particular emphasis is placed throughout on the use of electromagnetic fields to control the heat, mass and fluid flows in melts and on phase change phenomena during the solidification of pure materials and binary alloys. However, the book provides much more than formalisms and algorithms; it also stresses the importance of good, feasible and workable models to understand complex systems, and develops these in detail. Bringing computational fluid dynamics, thermodynamics and electrodynamics together, this is a useful source for materials scientists, PhD students, solid state physicists, process engineers and mechanical engineers, as well as lecturers in mechanical engineering.

This book describes the potentialities of metaheuristics for solving production scheduling problems and the relationship between these two fields. For the past several years, there has been an increasing interest in using metaheuristic methods to solve scheduling problems. The main reasons for this are that such problems are generally hard to solve to optimality, as well as the fact that metaheuristics provide very good solutions in a reasonable time. The first part of the book presents eight applications of metaheuristics for solving various mono-objective scheduling problems. The second part is itself split into two, the first section being devoted to five multi-objective problems to which metaheuristics are adapted, while the second tackles various transportation problems related to the organization of production systems. Many real-world applications are presented by the authors, making this an invaluable resource for researchers and students in engineering, economics, mathematics and computer science. Contents 1. Muli Ndambuki The Quasi-One-Dimensional Flow

The Quasi-one-dimensional flow: An Introduction grew out of Masters Project by the same title first presented in 2005 and repeated with modifications for publication in peer referred Journal of Mathematical theory and Modeling. The objective is to present the subject of Quasi-one-dimensional flow to an audience unfamiliar with all but the most basic numerical techniques and to do so in such a way that it would become clear to everyone. This "The Quasi-one-dimensional flow" book is truly a handbook for beginners. The book is divided into two parts. The author lays out the subject in Part I by first defining the terms, Next, he describes the theoretical foundations of the fluid flows. This includes the governing equations of fluid dynamics, concentrating on their mathematical properties which contain the keys to the choice of the numerical approach and finally the Method of discretizing the equations is discussed and transformation techniques and grids are presented. Part II is devoted to application example material. It provides insight into the steps needed to obtain a numerical solution of a flow field using the Finite difference technique and the Mac Cormack's Method.

Wilson C. Chin has written some of the most important and well-known books in the petroleum industry. These books, whose research was funded by the U.S. Department of Energy and several international petroleum corporations, have set very high standards. Many algorithms are used at leading oil service companies to support key drilling and well logging applications. For the first time, the physical models in these publications, founded on rigorous mathematics and numerical methods, are now available to the broader industry: students, petroleum engineers, drillers and faculty researchers. The presentations are written in easy-to-understand language, with few equations, offering simplified explanations of difficult problems and solutions which provide key insights into downhole physical phenomena through detailed tabulations and color graphics displays. Practical applications, such as cuttings transport, pressure control, mudcake integrity, formation effects in unconventional applications, and so on, are addressed in great detail, offering the most practical answers to everyday problems that the engineer encounters. The book does not stop at annular flow. In fact, the important role of mudcake growth and thickness in enabling steady flow in the annulus is considered, as is the role of (low) formation permeability in affecting mud filtration, cake growth, and fluid sealing at the sandface. This is the first publication addressing “the big picture,” a “first” drawn from the author’s related research in multiple disciplines such as drilling rheology, formation testing and reservoir simulation. A must-have for any petroleum engineer, petroleum professional, or student, this book is truly a groundbreaking volume that is sure to set new standards for the industry.
