Milk is very valuable food substance as it contains all the essential food constituents, viz. proteins, carbohydrates, fats, and vitamins in addition to a considerable percentage of minerals. Important component of milk next to protein is fat, either freely available in globular form or complex form of lipoproteins. The present study was conducted in LR&D Station Surezai. The breed effect on milk fat percentage was highly significant (P< 0.01), being highest in Azakheli buffalo (6.94%) followed by Beetal goats (6.2%), and lower levels in Nili Ravi buffalos, Sahiwal, Crossbred (F1) and Friesian cattle (5.79, 4.5, 4.9 and 4.57 % respectively). The fat % in milk of Achai cattle was 3.03. Pregnancy and lactation affected milk fat percentage significantly (P < 0.01), the highest being in NPL animal (5.34 %). It was concluded that Azakheli buffaloe and Beetal goats possessed the highest level of milk fat. In NR buffalo, Achai and Crossbred cattle the highest milk fat percentage (6.68, 3.63 and 5.82 respectively) was found in NPL and it increased with the advancement in pregnancy and lactation. In Azakheli buffalo, the fat % was decreased with advancement of lactation and pregnanancy.

Although goat production occurs throughout the country, goat milk production is limited and is only undertaken in the semi-arid regions in the south western parts of the country. Dairy goat production has been gaining popularity in many countries around the world in the recent years among the small scale farmers. There, however, has not been much attention given to goat milk production in the smallholder areas despite its nutritional, health, and potential for niche export markets. This book therefore ascertains the primary reasons for keeping goats in smallholder areas where goats are milked, determines and analyzes the socio-economic factors influencing goat milk production. The book shows the potential that exist to stimulate goat milk production in the smallholder areas targeting improved disease control through accessibility of veterinary medicines and vaccines.Government and research organizations can deliberately formulate strategies to introduce improved goat milk breeds and promote the development of para-veterinary programs as a way of diversifying income sources and promoting the development and eventual commercialization of goat milk production in Zimbabwe.

Pygmy goats are the most adorable goat breed. They are miniature goats that provide the best source of entertainment to goat owners across the globe. Pygmy goats were introduced to the world from central Africa. These goats were the result of a type of dwarfism. However, because of their hardiness and because of their calm and friendly nature, they were taken into individual homes. Another important trait of the pygmy goat is their size. This makes them the perfect urban backyard pet. They are not as demanding for space or food as other dairy goats but provide milk that is of better quality. Therefore, these goats are great pets to have. It is important to understand when you are bringing home a pet goat that this animal needs special care and attention. They are seldom found in the urban set up. They are usually raised in large numbers on farms and also in designated commercial set ups where there is ample professional help available to take care of these animals. Boer Goats as Pets. Boer Goats: facts and information. Raising, breeding, housing, milking, training, diet, daily care and health all included. Growing up with animals, I have learnt so much about taking care of them. The most amazing thing about pets is the fact that they are so unconditional and so grateful for every small act of kindness. It is rather humbling to see how warm hearted animals can actually be.I would have never had the wonderful opportunity of dealing with goats and other animals, if it had not been for my family, especially my father. Animals were the centre of all our activities when I grew up. There was not a single day that did not begin with a discussion about our pets. What to feed them? What is the most nutritious thing to feed them? These were common dinner table conversations in our house. So, needless to say, I have had a lot of practical training with respect to taking care of different breeds of animals. Today, I am in a very privileged place where I can share this information with pet lovers across the globe. I love my boer goats. They make me laugh every day: their silly attitude, their "smile", the great times we have when I practice their training. They are, in my opinion, seriously amusing animals. Not to mention the tasteful milk I enjoy from them.In this book, I've explained my experience with my boer goats. I've included all these topics and more: raising, keeping, costs, milking, bonding, training, play and enrichment, fo...

Breeds of cattle have differentiated gene pools. Differentiation was under the effects of selection (for example for the high milk yield), random genetic drift and environmental selection (natural selection). Nowadays, tracking the genes which are known to be associated with the properties of the milk one can identify the status of the breed in relation to the property under consideration. The DGAT1 gene is located in the centromeric end of chromosome 14 in cattle, otherwise known as the acetyl-CoA: diacylglycerol acyltransferase 1(DGAT1), and has been recently identified as a strong candidate gene for milk production traits. This monographph describe various aspect of bovine DGA T1 gene.

The exploitation of traditional crops, which often are grown with low inputs, and are largely adapted to the climatic conditions of the developing countries, would be a step towards better resource utilization. Available literature from research on sweet potato focused more on tuber yields with little or no attention paid to foliage yield and quality. Unfortunately, Information about feeding value, extent and evolution of feeding practices of vine as a feed source is not much known due to lack of knowledge about the crop, and its use for animal feed. Furthermore, information on supplementation of livestock diets with sweet potato vines in Ethiopia is not sufficient. Therefore, the current study was designed to evaluate the effect of substituting sweet potato vines with concentrate mix at increasing levels on feed intake, growth performance and carcass traits of Sidama goats.

Milk is nature’s most complete food, and dairy products are considered to be the most nutritious foods of all. The traditional view of the role of milk has been greatly expanded in recent years beyond the horizon of nutritional subsistence of infants: it is now recognized to be more than a source of nutrients for the healthy growth of children and nourishment of adult humans. Alongside its major proteins (casein and whey), milk contains biologically active compounds, which have important physiological and biochemical functions and significant impacts upon human metabolism, nutrition and health. Many of these compounds have been proven to have beneficial effects on human nutrition and health. This comprehensive reference is the first to address such a wide range of topics related to milk production and human health, including: mammary secretion, production, sanitation, quality standards and chemistry, as well as nutrition, milk allergies, lactose intolerance, and the bioactive and therapeutic compounds found in milk. In addition to cow’s milk, the book also covers the milk of non-bovine dairy species which is of economic importance around the world. The Editors have assembled a team of internationally renowned experts to contribute to this exhaustive volume which will be essential reading for dairy scientists, nutritionists, food scientists, allergy specialists and health professionals.

Milk safety and quality assurance has become an area of priority and necessity for consumers, retailers, manufacturers and regulators. Changing global patterns of food production, international trade and public expectations for health protection have created a huge demand for food safety. Globally, the incidence of food borne diseases is increasing and international food trade is getting disrupted by frequent disputes over food safety and quality requirements. The components of milk and its physical and chemical properties provide a favorable milieu for the growth and multiplication of microorganisms, thus causing milk spoilage and transmission of disease in Humans. Hence, it is necessary to study the sources of microbial contamination during collection of raw milk, processing pasteurized milk, knowing the effect of pasteurization and predicting the shelf life and sensory attributes of refrigerated pasteurized milk and the quality of market milk sold in retail outlets. The analysis used in the study should help to shed some light on the concept of hygienic production of milk. This may be especially useful to professionals in the fields food safety and quality management.

You see, when this goat is shocked or surprised, its muscles freeze for 10 seconds and it simply tips to one side. This is a rather dramatic sight that has made the quirky breed popular. Besides this, these goats can produce good quality milk and are known especially for their reproduction abilities. The goats also have a certain body conformation that is distinct and sought after. It is important to understand when you are bringing home a fainting goat that this animal needs special care and attention. They are seldom found in the urban set up. They are usually raised in large numbers on farms and also in designated commercial set ups where there is ample professional help available to take care of these animals. If you are planning to bring a goat home, on the other hand, you must invest a lot more time doing your homework and research about this animal in the first place. You must be sure that you can take on this responsibility before you make a commitment. This book is perfect for a first time fainting goat owner. Covered in this book:- History- Things you must know- Where to buy- Making a home for your goats- First days at their new home- Housing- Daily care- Seasonal care- Feeding- Grooming- Understanding goat behavior- Training- Transport- Milking- Breeding- Health and well being.... and a lot more...

She was a bona fide city girl and a seasoned public school teacher, until she made the move to the country. Now her days consist of outsmarting egg-laying chickens, battling Mother Nature, shooting at varmints, and milking uncooperative goats. Like a Hair in a Biscuit chronicles the birth, quite by accident, of Piggy’s Gentle Goat’s Milk Products. The country relatives were taking bets on whether or not she’d stick it out. She’s hanging in there, though, just like a hair in a biscuit.

He achieves his dream only to be propelled by a series of incidents, grim and absurd, into a slave-like existence herding goats in the middle of the Saudi desert. Memories of the lush, verdant landscape of his village and of his loving family haunt Najeeb whose only solace is the companionship of goats. In the end, the lonely young man contrives a hazardous scheme to escape his desert prison. Goat Days was published to acclaim in Malayalam and became a bestseller. "Cognitive dissonance" is a frequent occurrence in our daily life. However, less than 1% of the studies of cognitive dissonance have also investigated individuals' personality traits. Individual differences might be quite important in moderating the strength of dissonance effects. Although cognitive dissonance is a common occurrence in most people's everyday life, the magnitude of the dissonance they experience may nonetheless differ from one person to another. The purpose of the study in this book is to investigate the relationships between personality traits and cognitive dissonance in a counter-attitudinal advocacy paradigm, with a special focus on the traits of openness to experience and strength of sense of self, and to examine whether the relationships in a novel on-line survey study form were different from the relationships in the standard laboratory setting.

Estimates of gene effects based on analysis of generation mean were obtained for nine traits in three crosses in castor (Ricinus communis L.): SKP-84 x DCS-94, VP-1 x DCS-94 and GEETA x GC-3. The study material includes P1, P2, F1, F2, BC1 and BC2 generations of these crosses. The individual scaling test and joint scaling test indicated that an additive-dominance model was adequate in three traits viz., length of main raceme, number of effective branches per plant and seed index in the cross VP-1 x DCS-94. The analysis showed the presence of additive, dominance and epistasis gene effects for the traits. However, to exploit both additive and non-additive gene action reciprocal recurrent or biparental mating procedure may be adopted for improvement of traits. Duplicate epistasis played a greater role than complementary epistasis. Key words:- Castor, Gene action, Generation mean, Polygenic traits, Scaling test

Seminar paper from the year 2017 in the subject Veterinary medicine, Jimma University College of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine, language: English, abstract: Objective of this review is focus on effect of feeding protected fat and protected protein on milk yield and its composition and how these nutrients are protected. Many researchers in this review investigate that the responses are highly dependent on the type of fat and protein supplement and the stage of lactation. A higher milk response was observed with saturated than with unsaturated fat supplements. Diet with added fat increase milk production compared with a control diet without added fat in cows. Feeding of bypass fat resulted in significant increase in milk yield and Fat Corrected Milk yield particularly in early lactation. The source of Protected fat are (origin (animal, plant, processed or whole oilseeds, calcium salts) and Cereal Grains such as corn, wheat, Barly, oil seeds, sun flower, cotton seed, soybeans and canola). The supplementation of protected protein in the diets of lactating animals increases the milk yield due to proportionate increase in the supply of amino acids to the host postruminally Milk yield in cows fed protected methionine for the whole experimental period was numerically higher than in cows of the other groups. However, the difference was not statistically significant .At the centeral high land of Ethiopia the Treatment of shredded wheat and barley straw with urea, molasses, salt a...

The economic importance of dairy powders and concentrated products to dairy-producing countries is very significant, and there is a large demand for them in countries where milk production is low or non-existent. In these markets, dairy products are made locally to meet the demand of consumers from recombined powders, anhydrous milk fat and concentrated dairy ingredients (evaporated and sweetened condensed milk). This volume is the latest book in the Technical Series of The Society of Dairy Technology (SDT). Numerous scientific data have been available in journals and books in recent years, and the primary aim of this text is to detail in one publication the manufacturing methods, scientific aspects, and properties of milk powders (full-fat, skimmed and high protein powders made from milk retentates), whey powders (WP) including WP concentrates, lactose, caseinates, sweetened condensed milk, evaporated milk and infant baby feed. The book also covers the international standards relating to these products for trading purposes, as well as the hazards, such as explosion and fire, that may occur during the manufacture of dairy powders. The authors, who are all specialists in these products, have been chosen from around the world. The book will be of interest to dairy scientists, students, researchers and dairy operatives around the world. It is in the everyday and the mundane tasks of life that we become who we are—in the split-second decisions, in the moments we prove what we stand for, how we treat others, and the values we hold no matter the circumstances. It is in the shared experiences with those who have walked life in front of us that we learn the values and traits that define our actions.Character, by definition, is the attribute that makes up or distinguishes an individual. Often it is difficult to describe yet instantly becomes recognizable in one’s attitude, feelings, actions, responses, and behavior. Character is a choice, and those who daily choose it display integrity, trust, loyalty, dependability, and leadership. The author identifies seven character traits, or life values, that have been passed down through four generations and are currently being taught to the fifth—traits learned through hard times and positive experiences of the author and his ancestors. Through his stories of life growing up in Montana to the day-to-day experiences in his career, raising children, and his relationship between his own son and grandson, the reader sees years of inner character in action.Character is measured by what one does when no one is watching. It is an outward expression of a person’s inner values. These traits are not inherited or inborn; they are accepted, learned, practiced, and in time, become habit. Inner character traits are those qualities that make a person distinctive and help to shape families...

Buffalo contributes 38.0 % milk in Asia. A total of 5033 records were utilized to investigate breeding efficiency (BE) and its various contributors. Effect of herd, period, season of calving, birth weight (BW), age at puberty (AAP), lactation yield (LY) and calving interval (CI) were analyzed. The effect of year and season of calving, lactation yield, calving interval, age at first calving and birth weight was found significant (P<0.001), while that of herd was non significant. BE correlated positively with BW and LY and negatively with AAP, AFC and CI. It was concluded that birth weight was the most significant contributor. In the succeeding study herd, sire nested into herd and parity had a significant effect on lactation yield, while the effects of year, season of calving, year x season and age at puberty x season was found non significant. It was suggested that the milk production ability of dairy buffaloes was improved by increasing birth weight and an increasing maturity. The last study suggested that heritability estimates of first lactation economic traits provided a better tool for selective breeding.
