The developed millimeter-wave homodyne sensor shows sub-millimeter resolution in the order of 0.05 mm without correction for the non-linear phase response of the sensor's quadrature mixer. The designed millimeter-wave double-channel homodyne sensor provides a resolution of only 0.01 mm, or 1/840th of the operating wavelength, and can inherently suppress the non-linearity of the sensor's quadrature mixer. The experimental results of displacement and velocity measurement are presented as a way to demonstrate the sensing ability of the RF interferometry and to illustrate its many possible applications in sensing.The book is succinct, yet the material is very much self-contained, enabling readers with an undergraduate background in electrical engineering or physics with some experiences or graduate courses in RF circuits to understand easily.

Walking to transit stations is proposed as one of the strategies to increase the use of transit. Urban planners, transportation planners, environmentalists, and health professionals encourage and support environmental interventions that can reduce the use of cars for all kinds of trips and use alternative modes of travel such as walking, biking, and mass-transit. This work investigates the influence of the built-environment on walking to transit stations. Transit-oriented communities at quarter and half-mile distances from the Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) station in Dallas, Texas, were analyzed to identify the relation of various constructs of built-environment on walking to the DART stations. This book, therefore, provides some insight about the features of built-environment that can support walking to transit station. Developers and transit agencies can benefit by incorporating the outcome of this research. The results of this study has implications for the transit-oriented development and anyone analyzing the role of objective measures of built-environment on walking.

In this book, Heart rate from RR and PP interval series is compared for various MIT/BIH and fantasia database The heart rate is generally determined by detecting R peaks and calculating the RR intervals.This is because R peak has highest amplitude among various wave components of the ECG signal and therefore it is easier to detect the R peak locations. The heart cycle actually starts from P wave , so the PP interval series constitutes the actual heart rate time series. The P wave represents the spread of electrical activity over the atrium. In the detection algorithm for P-wave, firstly T-wave is detected in reference to R-peak. This method is efficient, simple to implement and can be easily modified to adapt to different ECG waves.The heart rate comparison with PP and RR intervals is done for various MIT/BIH and Fantasia database using the algorithm that starts from pre-processing of the raw ECG signal and ends with the heart rate calculation. It is concluded from comparison results that heart rate calculated from RR and PP interval time series individually is approximately same.

The working principle and modulation characteristics of Mach-Zehnder modulators (MZM) are introduced. Literature review is presented on generating millimeter/micro wave signals with 4-, 6-, and 8-times frequency multiplication based on cascaded MZMs or dual-parallel MZMs (DPMZMs). A novel scheme to optically generate a microwave signal with 10-times frequency multiplication is proposed. The proposed scheme is based on two DPMZMs and a polarizer. It does not require electrical phase shifters with specified degrees, which are needed in the conventional 10 times frequency multiplication structure. Simulation is conducted to evaluate the performance of the proposed scheme. When a 1 GHz RF drive signal turns into two DPMZMs with a 35 dB extinction ratio, the proposed 10 times frequency multiplier with an optical sideband suppression ratio (OSSR) higher than 25 dB can be obtained. A 10 GHz mm-wave with an RF spurious suppression ratio (RFSSR) over 16 dB is generated. A frequency quadrupling scheme based on a DPMZM is experimentally demonstrated.
