These were with a view to determining the thermal comfort level for the study area. Both primary and secondary data were be used for this study. The primary data was obtained with a semi-structured questionnaire which was administered to the sample population of selected settlements in Ile-Ife and Eruwa. The secondary data includes temperature, relative humidity and thermal comfort indices(relative strain index, effective temperature index and dewpoint temperature).

The main findings indicate that some infrastructure impacts observed and reported in depopulated areas do not seem to be related to any population decline; moreover, the preferences of citizens for infrastructure development is very similar between depopulated areas and non-depopulated areas. This book also provides many cases to cope with the impacts of population decline on infrastructure in Japan. Some of policy implications in each four-aspect of sustainable infrastructure development and management could be extracted from those cases.

Lahore is the second largest city of Pakistan with respect to its population due to its rapidly growing urbanization. The environmental factors affecting the spread of the disease have been identified and then mapped in a GIS based environment by using all the spatial and tabular data obtained from different sources. The factors affecting dengue spread were found to be Land Surface Temperature (LST), Land cover/Land use, Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI), Temperature, Rainfall, and Population Density.

Big Data is a new field, with many technological challenges to be understood in order to use it to its full potential. These challenges arise at all stages of working with Big Data, beginning with data generation and acquisition. The storage and management phase presents two critical challenges: infrastructure, for storage and transportation, and conceptual models. Finally, to extract meaning from Big Data requires complex analysis. Here the authors propose using metaheuristics as a solution to these challenges; they are first able to deal with large size problems and secondly flexible and therefore easily adaptable to different types of data and different contexts. The use of metaheuristics to overcome some of these data mining challenges is introduced and justified in the first part of the book, alongside a specific protocol for the performance evaluation of algorithms. An introduction to metaheuristics follows. The second part of the book details a number of data mining tasks, including clustering, association rules, supervised classification and feature selection, before explaining how metaheuristics can be used to deal with them. The aims of this work are (1) to establish a spatial biological valuation of the Belgian coastal zone, using Marine Biological Valuation methods (MBV) (Derous 2007); and (2) to explore the applications of MBV for EB-MSP under different scenarios of space-use conflict at the Belgian coast (beach nourishment and nature conservation). Biological data from 1995 to 2011 on four ecosystem components (macrobenthos,epibenthos, hyperbenthos, and avifauna) have been integrated into a single database and used to perform MBV. Despite time constraints, spatial coverage and overall data availability were surprisingly satisfactory and allowed for significant trends and patterns to be observed. Telecommunications infrastructure is recognized as a catalyst for economic growth. The literature has identified how infrastructure con­tributes to growth, ways that telecommunications specifically contri­butes, and empirically confirmed a significant, positive bi-directional relationship between telecommunications infrastructure and growth. More recently, the technological innovations in telecommunications in the 90s have sparked a debate about whether these technologies have created a "digital divide." This work reviews this underlying theory and the debates surrounding this subject. Data for this analysis include 79 countries for the years 1981-2000. The model is regressed using ordinary least squares, a panel-data method, and finally it is in­strumented to attempt to control for endogeneity. The instruments utilized in this investigation prove to be ineffective. The results of the empirical work confirm that there is a strong relationship between telecommunications and growth; that the technological revolution of the 1990s dramatically strengthened this relationship; and that these benefits are biased towards more developed countries, confirming the existence of a digital divide.

This poses the challenge in monitoring and evaluation of ICT Projects and not only that, but it is also difficult to measure the status quo of ICT development and digital divide among societies. This dissertation was both exploratory and descriptive in nature; therefore, it utilized both quantitative and qualitative research approaches. A survey conducted used purposive sampling with informants being stakeholders with basic IT knowledge and IT personnel. Data was collected through a survey of 45 organizations in both techniques of face-to-face and online, with a total of 80 respondents. Data collected examined the level of importance or applicability of 90 ICT indicators in their respective 10 sector parameter.Findings indicated that, 50 indicators (55%) out of 90 are significant and confirmed to be highly correlated with new 6 ICT categories (sector parameters) out 10 (60%) which were proposed in the literature review. The spatial variation of soil nutrients such as soil P is becoming important because of the use of STP as a basis for policies such as the EU-introduced Nitrate Directive. Traditionally, fertilizers have been applied to grasslands based on soil test results, without considering within-field spatial variability. Such agricultural management may be inefficient due to under-application or over-application in specific sites. Under-application zones do not reach optimal levels of grass yield whereas in over-application areas there will be an increase of costs and high risk of environmental pollution such as runoff with high P or nitrogen (N) concentrations which can cause water eutrophication. This book,therefore, provides a combined spatial analysis method (geostatistics, GIS and Moran's I) to reveal spatial pattern and to produce spatial distribution maps of soil nutrients at field- and farm- scales in temporate grasslands. Characterizing the dynamics of landscape spatial patterns in the Miombo is fundamental to understanding the impacts of changes in landscape structure on ecological processes and functions. Land Cover Dynamics in Miombo Ecosystems examines methodologies for computer-aided classification of Landsat TM data for mapping land use and land cover in Miombo ecosystems in Southern Africa. The work compares supervised and unsupervised methods for classifying Landsat TM and developed a hybrid supervised-unsupervised classification method, Stepwise Thematic Classification (STC). STC substantially improved both the accuracy and reliability of the classification process. Spatial pattern analysis was used to quantify changes in landscape metrics as a result of land cover transitions under different land tenure systems at locations in Malawi and Zimbabwe.
