Scientific Study from the year 2008 in the subject Environmental Sciences, grade: B, , 69 entries in the bibliography, language: English, abstract: Health, environment and poverty are closely interrelated and inseparable, particularly in developing countries. WHO estimates that environmental factors are the root cause of 25% of the total burden of disease worldwide and account for about 35% in sub-Saharan Africa (SSA). Effective environmental management is the key to avoiding a quarter of all preventable illnesses which are directly caused by environmental factors. In the Bibiani-Bekwai and Sefwi Wiawso Districts of the Western Region of Ghana, the environment has been altered by complex human induced factors, which have negatively impacted on the health of the population. This paper seeks to establish the major causes of environmental and human health degradation and whether there is a direct link between environmental degradation and human health in Bibiani-Bekwai and the Sefwi Wiawso Districts in the Western Region of Ghana. Four complementary approaches were used during the investigation: extensive literature review, consultations with key informants, the administration of questionnaires, and stakeholder consultations. The data was analyzed using SPSS to establish the linkages between environmental deterioration and human health in the two districts. Combinatorial auctions are auctions in which each bid can be placed on a set of items, as opposed to standard auctions, in which each bid is placed on a single item. The winner determination problem for combinatorial auctions is known to be NP-complete. One of the approaches to cope with the hardness of the problem is to identify tractable classes of combinatorial auctions by means of hypertree decompositions. The winner determination problem is tractable on the class of instances with corresponding dual hypergraphs having hypertree width bounded by a fixed natural number. This book describes an optimal algorithm, called ComputeSetPackingK, for solving the winner determination problem based on these ideas. The algorithm was implemented, and experimental results are also presented.

A mixed research design is employed in this study in which two types of qualitative exploratory analysis are used: an illustrative case study with BP and semi-structured interviews conducted with 14 individuals including environmental managers, investor relations managers and investment managers. In addition, the researcher will use a qualitative comparison analysis in looking at publications produced by BP on the topic of environmental performance. In this study, the researcher found there to be minimal correlation between environmental performance and ist effects on investors' SRI decisions. This thesis presents algorithm and architecture for simultaneous diagonalization of matrices. As an example, a subspace-based speech enhancement problem is considered, where in the covariance matrices of the speech and noise are diagonalized simultaneously. In order to compare the system performance of the proposed algorithm, objective measurements of speech enhancement is shown in terms of the signal to noise ratio and mean bark spectral distortion at various noise levels. In addition, an innovative subband analysis technique for subspace-based time-domain constrained speech enhancement technique is proposed. The proposed technique analyses the signal in its subbands to build accurate estimates of the covariance matrices of speech and noise, exploiting the inherent low varying characteristics of speech and noise signals in narrow bands. The subband approach also decreases the computation time by reducing the order of the matrices to be simultaneously diagonalized. Further, architecture is proposed to implement the simultaneous diagonalization scheme. The architecture is implemented on a Xilinx FPGA. FPGA resource utilization re-enforces on the practicability of the design.

The study was conducted in one hamlet, namely Kibohelo hamlet, as the representative of the whole Lushoto district and Tanga region in general as one of the area where round potato are being produced. The study evaluates the awareness of local community on the environmental impacts of potato production where by findings from this study indicate that majority of respondents, (53.57%) were aware of the changes in environment around cultivated field. However, (21.43%) respondents claimed not to know anything about environmental impacts of potatoes production or any changes related to it. The study also identifies farming practices whereby crop rotation (28.57%), mulching (21.43%), miraba (16.07%) and small scale irrigation (19.64%) were found to be used by the farmers. As well as determines the problems associated with the farming practices to the environment whereby soil by (55.36%) as commented by farmers in which its perceived to have changed than the other environmental aspects this is due to application of fertilizers, pesticides, herbicides and chemicals which are used to remove fog over the crops which directly end up to the soil. This has been widely acknowledged by Chinese leaders as well as by international scholars. This work presents a detailed analysis of the foreign environmental policy of the People's Republic of China (PRC) for the period from 1972 to the present day. In recent decades, the country's behaviour changed from having an initial policy of refusal to having a more cooperative position within international negotiations, combined with voluntary agreements to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
