Finite sample properties are illustrated in a Monte Carlo simulation study. It can be classified as nonparametric regression, where it is one of the standard tasks. The most common selected levels for estimation are the first, second and third quartile (25, 50 and 75 percent). The quantile level is given by "alpha". A 25 percent quantile for example has 25 percent of the data distribution below the named quantile and 75 percent of the data distribution above it. Sometimes the tail regions of a population characteristic are of interest rather than the core of the distribution. Measuring the degree of association between random variables is a task inherent in many practical applications such as risk management and financial modeling. Well-known measures like Spearman's rho and Kendall's tau can be expressed in terms of the underlying copula only, hence, being independent of the underlying univariate marginal distributions.Opposed to these classical measures of association, mutual information, which is derived from information theory, constitutes a fundamentally different approach of measuring association. Although this measure is likewise independent of the univariate margins, it is not a functional of the copula but of the corresponding copula density.Besides the theoretical properties of mutual information as a measure of multivariate association, possibilities to estimate the copula density based on observations of continuous distributions are investigated. To cope with the effect of boundary bias, new estimators are introduced and existing functionals are generalized to the multivariate case. We present a novel method for a femoral head segmentation and a density measurement. Our approach is based on a semi-automatical femoral head segmentation from a CT dataset based on finding an optimal path through the axial slices transformed to polar coordinates. The cost function itself is based on a combination of corticallis properties, mostly the directional behavior of the 3D gradients and their size in 2D slices, where they form typical "channels". The final volume is computed using filling and morphological algorithms and its properties are further measured. The final implementation was experimentally validated on the radiology department of the Bulovka hospital and allows a radiologist to intuitively and accurately estimate the femoral head density in approximately 1 to 3 minutes.

This work also investigates the complexity of the channel estimation techniques in terms of the number of complex multiplications and by varying the FFT size and number of CP. furthermore, the effect of varying the number of antennas at the transmitter and receiver ends, where 2 x 2 and 4 x 4 antenna arrangements are considered as a case studies. The performance of these channel estimation techniques is also studied for EVA standard channel model in LTE. The considered channel model is EVA standard channel model with Doppler shift of 300HZ.Simulation results in this thesis show that the ML channel estimation technique has the best performance. In terms of number of complex multiplications it is proved the ML has lower complexity. OFDM has been an attractive choice for digital modulation in the recent years due to its robustness to channel fading and invulnerability to intersymbol interference. However, to achieve an optimal performance the corresponding channel estimation scheme need to be accurate. This book focuses on the use of guard intervals between successive OFDM symbols for channel estimation. A hybrid of blind and semi-blind estimation techniques is proposed to create an energy efficient scheme that can maintain accurate channel estimation as well as a low transmission BER. Multipath fading channel are considered for performance evaluation. The proposed hybrid scheme is tested in static as well as time varying channel environments using computer simulations. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme outperforms the existing schemes on the basis of BER performance for the same SNR.
