One popular applications of the World Wide Web is online banking, a practice which is especially popular in The Netherlands. Online banking, however, is not without its risks: criminals have armed themselves with in-depth technical and even psychological knowledge in order to gain access to banking accounts of unsuspecting users. This research seeks to gain insight in the Dutch online banking security systems in order to find its strengths and weaknesses. The external security controls that have the potential to increase control over online web-based banking fraud (OWBF) risk without yielding too high a cost are especially of interest. Additionally, it aims to quantify the performance of the Dutch banking sector relative to its peer countries through criminal statistical database research and provide in insight in the (international) cooperation between banks, consumer organizations and banking lobbyist.

This has made the transition to electronic banking a necessity for banks in order to be viable. Despite its benefits, developing countries still lag behind in the adoption of electronic banking. This study therefore seeks to examine the adoption of e-banking in the Ghanaian banking industry with Guaranty Trust Bank Ghana Limited (GTBank) as the case study to identify the benefits, challenges and critical success factors for the adoption of e-banking in the Ghanaian banking industry. The research made use of questionnaires and interviews to collect data from staff and customers of GTBank. The benefits, challenges and critical success factors of e-banking are also identified and discussed. Master's Thesis from the year 2015 in the subject Business economics - Banking, Stock Exchanges, Insurance, Accounting, grade: Distinction, , course: Commonwealth Executive Master of Business Administration., language: English, abstract: Data Innovation is gradually changing the banking industry around the world. Digital banking offers banks new opportunities and challenges. This paper gives a comprehension of how demographic characteristics, social components and consumer perception and attitudes towards digital banking influence its adoption. Digital banking has been developed in order to enable consumers to gain a greater share in the banking market. In Mauritius, there is little awareness about the emergence of digital banking despite the fact that this service is presently representing an important share in the banking market. This is because digital banking is a new industry here, and therefore, consumer acceptance and use of digital banking is still limited. To date, very little research has been conducted into factors which influence consumer adoption of digital banking in Mauritius, and so, therefore, there is a need for a study such as this.A research framework in light of the diffusion of innovation theory was utilized to identify elements that would impact the adoption of digital banking. This report has evaluated current literature and conclusions about this innovation banking technology. It has likewise reviewed the elements, including consumer demographic c...

Mobile phones have become one of the most popular technological innovations with a penetration rate in Europe higher than 100%. Consumers can now conduct their banking transactions via mobile phones. However, although mobile banking services are widely available, research suggests that young consumers in Germany may not adopt these services. Thus, there is a need to better understand the acceptance of mobile banking from their perspective. Based on the technology acceptance model (TAM) and innovation diffusion theory (IDT), this dissertation develops and tests an integrated model for predicting consumers' intention to adopt mobile banking. Data was collected from 155 consumers aged between 18 and 35 in Germany. In general, males, people who use smart phones, those who have already used mobile services, and those who are already online banking users, exhibited a more positive intention to use mobile banking than others.

Research Paper (postgraduate) from the year 2013 in the subject Business economics - Banking, Stock Exchanges, Insurance, Accounting, , language: English, abstract: The current rapid growth rate of Islamic banking in the world market has made the banking approach a significant contributor to economic growth. However, few studies have been done to determine the extent to which conventional banks can survive in an Islamic banking environment. The purpose of this study was to assess the financial performance of financial institutions and relate it to their involvement in Islamic banking. The study took an explorative and a quantitative approach, whereby literature was acquired from online sources for use in assessing the current state of knowledge, and financial performance data for Citigroup, Deutsche Bank, HSBC, Morgan Stanley and Goldman Sachs were acquired from Bloomberg BusinessWeek. The literature was reviewed in the literature review section while financial performance records were assessed using Microsoft Excel 2011 software package. The study findings determined that conventional banks have varying degrees of success in their Islamic banking ventures, whereby high levels of fluctuations characterize the institutions' financial records. According to the exponential growth of Goldman Sachs in 2012 upon the issuance of sukuks, it is relatively easy for conventional banks to achieve growth through offering of Islamic banking products. However, according to the study fin...

This book analyzes the factors that affected the development of the banking sector in Latin America from 1850 to 1930. One of the most striking features of Latin America during this period was the very limited extent of banking development. Perhaps the most common explanation for some Latin American countries is that restrictive bank laws established high barriers to entry and discouraged the formation of banks and the provision of banking services. In this book, however, I show that liberal bank laws did not necessarily lead to highly developed banking systems, and that a low demand for banking services was a significant cause for the stunted development of the banking sector in most of Latin America during this era. Using annual data for seven Latin American countries for this period, I find that the long-run supply of banking services largely responded to changes in the demand for banking services. Country-case studies for Argentina and Peru strongly support these findings. In these two countries, the banking sector responded to the demand for banking sector by opening bank offices and providing banking services in response to positive demand shocks.

Master's Thesis from the year 2011 in the subject Computer Science - IT-Security, grade: MERIT , Middlesex University in London, course: Telecommunication Engineering , language: English, abstract: GSM systems are vulnerable to an unauthorized access and eaves droppings when compared with the traditional fixed wired networks due to the mobility of its users. The main idea of this project is to develop an application device to secure mobile banking over unsecure GSM network. It is important to mention here that, mobile banking is a term used for performing balance checks, account transactions, payments, credit applications and many other online applications. But unfortunately, the security architecture for cellular network is not entirely secure. As a matter of fact, GSM network infrastructure is proved to be insecure and many possible attacks have well documented in the literature. Security was never considered in the initial stages therefore sending protective banking information across an open mobile phone network remains insecure. Consequently, this project focuses entirely on the developing and designing security techniques to asses some security issues within mobile banking through cellular phone network (GSM). The main aim of this project was to investigate and examine the following:1. Security issues in each level of the mobile network architecture.2. Messages and signals exchanged between user's cellular phone and mobile network at each level.3. The overall se...

Presents information sources and methodologies for modeling and simulating banking system stability Combining both academic and institutional knowledge and experience, Banking Systems Simulation: Theory, Practice, and Application of Modeling Shocks, Losses, and Contagion presents banking system risk modeling clearly within a theoretical framework. Written from the global financial perspective, the book explores single bank risk, common bank exposures, and contagion, and how these apply on a systemic level. Zedda approaches these simulation methods logically by providing the basic building blocks of modeling and simulation, and then delving further into the individual techniques that make up a systems model. In addition, the author provides clear and detailed explanations of the foundational research into the mathematical and legal concepts used to analyze banking risk problems, measures and data for representing the main banking risk sources, and the major problems researchers are likely to encounter. There are numerous software descriptions throughout, with references and tools to help readers gain a proper understanding of the presented techniques and possibly develop new applications and research. The book concludes with an appendix that features real-world datasets and models. In addition, this book: • Provides a comprehensive overview of methods for analyzing models and simulating risk for banking and financial systems • Provides a clear presentation of the technical and legal concepts used in banking regulation • Presents unique insights from an expert’s perspective, with specific coverage of assessing risks and developing what-if analyses at the systems level • Concludes with a discussion of applications, including banking systems regulation what-if tests, cost-benefit analysis, evaluations of banking systems stability effects on public finances, dimensioning, and risk-based contributions for Deposit Guarantee Schemes (DGS) and Resolution Funds Banking Systems Simulation: Theory, Practice, and Application of Modeling Shocks, Losses, and Contagion is ideal for banking researchers focusing on computational methods of analysis as well as an appropriate reference for graduate-level students in banking, finance, and computational methods. Stefano Zedda is Researcher in Financial Mathematics at the University of Cagliari in Italy and qualified as associate professor in banking and corporate finance. His research is mainly focused on quantitative analyses for banking and finance, with a particular focus on banking systems modeling and simulation. In 2008, Zedda developed the mathematical modeling and software implementation of the Systemic Model for Banking Originated Losses (SYMBOL), further developed during his activity at the European Commission. The Commission subsequently adopted it as a standard tool for testing banking regulation proposals. Stefano Zedda’s research interests include banking, financial mathematics, and statistics, specifically simulation of banking and financial systems stability, banking regulation impact assessment, and interactive agent simulation.

As the English banking system is defined as a specialised banking system and the German one is known as a universal banking system, these terms are explained in the first chapter. Furthermore, the chapter deals with the history of both systems to make clear why these two banking systems developed into two different directions. After having looked at the differences of the two alternative banking systems, their structure is analysed in more detail in the second chapter. All different kinds of banks existing in England and Germany are identified and their scope of functions and goals are described. In the following some important features of the banking systems, such as short-termism and corporate governance, are analysed in great detail. This means that these features are defined and their causes and consequences are identified and evaluated. After the different banking systems have been described with regard to their structure and features, the objective of the next chapter is, to point out the implications of these systems on companies’ performance. Книга "Islamic Banking - A $300 Billion Deception".Islamic banks currently control about $300 billion in assets. This book assesses the underlying rationale of Islamic banking, that the Quran prohibits all forms of interest. The author maintains that, first, a correct interpretation of the Quran, keeping in mind the context, would indicate that what the Quran prohibits is usury -exorbitant interest. Second, Islamic banks do not practice what they preach; they all charge interest, but disguised in Islamic garb. Thus they engage in deceptive and dishonest banking practices. The author also offers some policy recommendations, including the need for Ijtihad, Enlightenment, and critical thinking. Islamic banks, if they wish to practice genuine and authentic Islamic banking, should become more like venture capital firms.

The ultimate guide for bank management: how to survive and thrive throughout the business cycle An essential guide for bankers and students of finance everywhere, The Principles of Banking reiterates that the primary requirement of banking—sound capital and liquidity risk management—had been forgotten in the years prior to the financial crash. Serving as a policy guide for market practitioners and regulators at all levels, the book explains the keys to success that bankers need to follow during good times in order to be prepared for the bad, providing in-depth guidance and technical analysis of exactly what constitutes good banking practice. Accessible to professionals and students alike, The Principles of Banking covers issues of practical importance to bank practitioners, including asset-liability management, liquidity risk, internal transfer pricing, capital management, stress testing, and more. With an emphasis on viewing business cycles as patterns of stable and stressful market behavior, and rich with worked examples illustrating the key principles of bank asset-liability management, the book is an essential policy guide for today and tomorrow. It also offers readers access to an accompanying website holding policy templates and teaching aids. Illustrates how unsound banking practices that were evident in previous bank crashes were repeated during the creation of the 2007-2008 financial market crisis Provides a template that can be used to create a sound liquidity and asset-liability management framework at any bank An essential resource for the international banking community as it seeks to re-establish its credibility, as well as for students of finance Explains the original principles of banking, including sound lending policy and liquidity management, and why these need to be restated in order to avoid another bank crisis at the time of the next economic recession Covers topics of particular importance to students and academia, many of which are marginally—if ever—addressed in current text books on finance Offers readers access to a companion website featuring invaluable learning and teaching aids Written by a banking practitioner with extensive professional and teaching experience in the field, The Principles of Banking explains exactly how to get back to basics in risk management in the banking community, essential if we are to maintain a sustainable banking industry. “engaging and interesting and, more importantly, easily understood, allowing a clear picture to emerge of how the principle or concept under discussion is to be applied in the real world.” – Graeme Wolvaardt, Head of Market & Liquidity Risk Control, Europe Arab Bank Plc
