Fairness in the workplace or organizational justice has received considerable research attention over the past three decades. However, most previous studies have been conducted in western countries. The amount of available research from non-western countries is limited. By investigating empowerment, psychological contract fulfillment, and communication as antecedents to organizational justice (distributive, procedural, and interactional), and organizational citizenship behaviour and turnover intention as outcomes in Chinese organizations, the book provides insight into the relationships surrounding organizational justice in non-western cultural contexts and suggests guidelines for international companies on how to promote perceptions of organizational justice and improve employees' performance in their organizations.

Feedback is a rare commodity in organizational life, but it is key to managerial effectiveness. One increasingly popular vehicle for getting feedback from one's boss, peers, and subordinates is the multiple-perspective, or 360-degree, feedback instrument. Use of such an instrument can enhance self-confidence by highlighting individual strengths and can facilitate greater self-awareness by pointing out areas in need of further development. Because of the availability of so many feedback instruments, finding the best instruments for an organization's needs is difficult. This book presents a step-by-step process that shows how to evaluate multiple-feedback instruments intended for management development. The steps take you through such issues as instrument development, validity and reliability, feedback display, scoring strategies, and cost.

The dual focus is intended to reflect the importance of quality consulting for change across both the management consulting and Organization Development (OD) fields. The availability of high-quality software is critical for the effective use of information technology in organizations. A large body of software quality literature has conceptualized systems development as a technical process emphasizing precision and technical accuracy in design and constructions while paying limited attention to the organizational and socio-behavioral aspect of quality management. This focus of software quality as a technical aspect has had marginal impact on the overall system quality. This book examines strategic importance of organizational and socio-behavioral aspect of incorporating organizational and socio-behavioral aspect of TQM constructs to improve quality performance in IS development. The attention to quality improvement is further escalated by increased organizational dependence on IS and the magnitude of potential losses associated with poor system quality. The target group for this book is software manufacturing firms, individual analyst/programmers and organizations that develop their information system in-house and who aim to develop quality systems. This book takes the position that organizations, such as businesses and government agencies, form a special class of living system. As such, they come into being, live through lifecycle stages, and can experience organizational health and various forms of organizational illness along the way. If the latter is frequent or extended, such organizations often die an untimely death. A services perspective can go a long way to combat this outcome and assist in maintaining organizational health. Allowing this perspective to permeate, an organization induces a consideration of its genuine value and leads to a greater understanding of the breadth of stakeholders who are the beneficiaries of it.

Bachelor Thesis from the year 2017 in the subject Business economics - General, grade: 2,0, University of Tubingen (International Business), language: English, abstract: This thesis explores the significance of organizational justice in international joint ventures (IJV), from an organizational as well as a cultural perspective. The majority of studies on organizational justice were conducted within organizations and in a mono-cultural context. However, in the face of increasing globalization and growing popularity of IJV activities, the study of fairness in a cross-cultural context becomes more and more important. Therefore, this thesis seeks to bring organizational justice into relation with culture by using an IJV context, and serve as a starting point for further research in this area. The three dimensions of justice, distributive, procedural, and interactional justice, positively affect IJV performance through their distinct and interactive effects. In this setting, culture has a moderating influence on justice perceptions, which can be assessed though bringing justice perspectives together with Hofstede's cultural dimensions. Effects on fairness perceptions in different cultures can be outlined and contrasted. On this basis, implications for theoretical discussion and managerial practice in cross-cultural joint ventures can be derived. Together with further research, managers could use these findings to develop transcultural justice competencies. To decide which of ...

Seminar paper from the year 2013 in the subject Business economics - Business Management, Corporate Governance, grade: 1,3, University of Mannheim, course: MAN 720 Research Seminar Organizational Theory, language: English, abstract: To be successful, MNEs need a deep understanding of BOP markets, which significantly differ from their Western home markets. As several academic studies have shown, one promising strategy for MNEs is to enter alliances with social organizations that are mutually beneficial for both partners. However, a comprehensive link between the main organizational challenges in BOP markets and their alleviating factors provided through social alliances is still unclear in the scholarly literature. This leads to the following research question: "What are the organizational drivers for social alliance formation from a corporate and social organization perspective within BOP markets?"The seminar thesis answers the research question in a three-step approach. In section two, the theoretical foundation describing the underlying concepts is provided. The third chapter aims to identify the main organizational constraints for each alliance partner and explains how social alliances can help to resolve them. Finally, the theoretical framework developed in section three is applied to an alliance example followed by a discussion of the findings and the conclusion

As elementary principals' roles continue to expand, teacher involvement in decision making needs to increase. In site-based managed schools, stakeholders (e.g., teachers, parents, community, and students) are encouraged to solve problems and make educational decisions collectively. This research explored principals' perceptions of organizational structure in elementary schools and perceptions of their teachers' participation in shared decision making. Three forms of organizational structures (i.e., centralization, formalization, and complexity) were examined. Principals generally want their teachers to participate in shared decision making, although they indicated that teachers were not participating in this process. Professional development was recommended to help principals understand the organizational structure of their schools. Further study should include expanding the study to include middle and high school teachers to determine if organizational structure and teacher involvement in shared decision making differ by building level.

During the past thirty years, companies have recognized the consumer as the key driver for business and product success. This recognition has, in turn, generated its own drivers: sensory analysis and marketing research, leading first to a culture promoting the expert and then evolving into the systematic acquisition of consumer-relevant information to build businesses. Sensory and Consumer Research in Food Product Design and Development is the first book to present, from the business viewpoint, the critical issues faced by business leaders from both the research development and business development perspective. This popular volume, now in an updated and expanded second edition, presents a unique perspective afforded by the author team of Moskowitz, Beckley, and Resurreccion: three leading practitioners in the field who each possess both academic and business acumen. Newcomers to the field will be introduced to systematic experimentation at the very early stages, to newly emerging methods for data acquisition/knowledge development, and to points of view employed by successful food and beverage companies. The advanced reader will find new ideas, backed up by illustrative case histories, to provide another perspective on commonly encountered problems and their practical solutions. This book is aimed at professionals in all sectors of the food and beverage industry. Sensory and Consumer Research in Food Product Design and Development is especially important for those business and research professionals involved in the early stages of product development, where business opportunity is often the greatest.

Innovation is the fundamental source of value creation in companies and an important enabler of competitive advantage. Innovation is inherently a highly cross-functional activity that, when it works well, creates a constructive tension between competing objectives of development cost, product value, performance, quality, and time to market. I have entitled this book Innovation Hardwired because the ability to consistently and continually bring an innovation to market involves: (a) hardwiring all the cross-functional activities in an effective way and (b) hardwiring several organizational factors - factors that, to use a biological metaphor, are embedded in a company's organizational DNA. Just as nature's DNA spells out the exact instructions required to create a unique organism, organizational DNA determines how effectively an organization will consistently and constantly innovate and create new value for all stakeholders.

This volume of the Research in Organizational Sciences is entitled "Received Wisdom, Kernels of Truth, and Boundary Conditions in Organizational Studies". Received wisdom is knowledge imparted to peopleby others and is based on authority and tenacity as sources of human knowledge. Authority refers to theacceptance of knowledge as truth because of the position and credibility of the knowledge source. Tenacityrefers to the continued presentation of a particular bit of information by a source until this bit ofinformation is accepted as true by receivers. The problem for organizational studies, however, is that thisreceived wisdom often becomes unquestioned assumptions which guide interpretation of the world and decisions made about the world. Receivedwisdom, therefore, may lead to organizational practices which provide little or no benefit to the organization and, potentially, negative organizationaleffects, because this received wisdom is no longer valid. The 14 papers in this volume all, in some way, strive to question received wisdom and presentalternatives which expand our understanding of organizational behavior in some way. The chapters in this volume each strive to present new ways ofunderstanding organizational constructs, and in so doing reveal how received wisdom has often led to confirmation bias in organizational science. Theknowledge that some perceived truths are actually the products of received wisdom and do not stand up to close scrutiny shakes up things ...

A volume in Issues in Career Development Book SeriesEdited by John Patrick and Grafton Eliason, California University of PennsylvaniaCareer Development in the Schools describes a dynamic process that continues to evolve in itsrationale and practice. In many schools and in a variety of scholarly writings, the status of careerdevelopment is controversial. Some observers assert that career development should be seen as aby-product of all of the knowledge and activities that are incorporated in the educational experience. In this view, career development tends to be seen as a random process that happens in anatural, almost magical way, without specific direction or structured form. However, most careertheorists would argue that the career development of students should be a major mission of theschool—a process too important to be only a by-product of scattered learning and activities thatare inherently uneven from student to student. The prevailing contemporary perspective contendsthat career development in the schools should be planned, have its own content derivedfrom research and theory, be systematically executed, and use methods that are relevant to thedevelopmental levels of students throughout elementary, middle, and senior high schools. Tofurther such ends, several national models of content and practice have been formulated by the American School Counselor Association, the National Career Development Revised Guidance Project, and by other organizations to identify the comp...

The impact of employee fairness perceptions on organizational outcomes have been explored by a wide range of research over the last 30 years. Previous studies found relationships between organizational justice and job satisfaction, organizational commitment, organizational citizenship behaviors, and productivity. However, there has been minimal research exploring the relationship of employee commitment to supervisor with organizational justice. This book explores the relationship between commitment to supervisor, organizational justice, organizational citizenship behavior and intentions to leave. Previous studies show that the relationship an employee has with their supervisor impacts job satisfaction, extra-role behavior, and intentions to leave. This book adds to the literature in identifying commitment to supervisor as a mediating variable in the relationship between organizational justice and the dependent variables. The results have important implications for organizations in that the relationship formed between a leader and their employees can have far reaching implications for organizational effectiveness and ultimately organizational profitability.
