Research Paper (undergraduate) from the year 2011 in the subject Business economics - Business Management, Corporate Governance, University of Derby, course: Business economics - Performance Management, language: English, abstract: Performance is explained superficially, which is the achievement of quantified objectives. Performance has an important connotation that is the way that people choose to achieve the objectives. Therefore, performance means process and manner of functioning and operating (or behaviours) to attain beforehand desirable goals (or results) (Brumbach, 1988). The mixed model of performance management is suggested by Armstrong (2006) which is based on these simultaneous elements of performance that are behaviour and result. The considerable aspect of organisational performance management is to maintain the goal congruence. Performance management aligns the organisation's objectives with the individuals' goals. Many performance management theories apportion this alignment as a main endeavour of the performance management process such as Balanced Scorecard. Besides, performance management could converge to strategic development by some modification of its methods and facilitates indirect control of employees by giving a clear target (Otley and Fakiolas, 2000; Hemmer, 1998; Egan, 1995). Organisations usually utilise two main theories to be competent firms in their markets. Those theories are Porter's theory (1980, 1989) and resources and competenc...

CEOs and managers live and die by delivering superior performance to shareholders. This is why expectations-based management has been developed. Outperform with Expectations-Based Management (EBM) introduces a revolutionary new performance metric that links performance standards, performance measurement, and the achievement of performance. It's easy to say that if a CEO can get performance measurement right, then performance improvement will follow. But what is the «right» measure of performance, and how do you use it to improve performance? Authors Tom Copeland and Aaron Dolgoff answer these questions and many more, as they show you how to find the measure of performance that has the strongest link to the creation of wealth for the owners of both public and private companies. They answer the puzzle of why growth in earnings is not correlated with shareholder returns and explain the under- and over-investment traps. And they explain how clear communications to investors and managers alike improve value. The bottom line is that share prices go up when companies exceed expectations – short-term and long-term – of income statement and balance sheet performance and daily operating value drivers. Gain a complete understanding of EBM and discover how to do this, and much more, while staying competitive in an unforgiving business environment.

Prabhakara Reddy Influence of Nutrient Rich Organic Wastes in Wastelands Reclamation

Doctoral Thesis / Dissertation from the year 2014 in the subject Environmental Sciences, grade: 1, , language: English, abstract: Exploration for natural resources and their utilization are present ever since the existence of human civilization. In India, land and water resources are the two important ones which determine our development. We possess large geographical area of 329 M.ha and unfortunately, nearly half of it is characterized with low soil fertility. Thus, nutrient limitation is an issue of concern in these marginal lands and several initiatives have been made in the past on their improvement. In contrast, we are also seeing nutrient surplus situations, sometimes even toxicities, in urban areas due to domestic and industrial waste disposals. Chemically, these wastes are organic in nature and rich in plant nutrients. An attempt was made to match these contrasting situations i.e. application of nutrient rich organic wastes to meet the nutrient requirements of tree species planted on less fertile wastelands. Thus, the objectives of the experiment were, - To characterize the wastelands in terms of physical and chemical features as soil limiting factors in afforestation programme- To characterize domestic and agro-industrial organic wastes for suitability as nutrient source in afforestation programme- To evaluate the changes in physical and chemical properties of wasteland soils due to organic wastes application- To evaluate the growth performance of tree species due t...

Diploma Thesis from the year 2007 in the subject Business economics - Industrial Management, grade: 1,3, LMU Munich (Information, Organisation und Management / und CDTM), language: English, abstract: "The most significant factor in America, leading to high production at low cost, is efficient management." This quotation is not from a longitudinal, empirical study, but it is stated by the British Productivity Council in the context of the Marshal Plan - the Anglo - American productivity mission in 1951. Hence, one question might be: Is there indeed a strong link between management practices and firm performance? A further question might be: How American management practices rank compared with European or Asian management practices? And what role plays organizational structure on firm performance? Are there interacted effects between management practices and organizational structure? Insights into the impact of management practices and organizational structure on firm performance are mainly based on theories.Consequently, there is a strong need to measure management practices and organizational structure across countries and cultures to verify theoretical hypotheses with empirical data. This paper sheds some empirical light on these topics as well as on the distribution of management practices and organizational structures across countries and industries. This book is based on a unique data set with more than 3500 management interviews to document and analyze the influen...

Marc Vogel Implementation of a Performance Attribution System in a Funds Management Company

Inhaltsangabe:Introduction: Within this thesis fundamentals of performance attribution are treated as well as the practical implementation of such a system. However, for many people who already asked to receive a copy of this work, the most important part will be the analysis of the (partly internet based) questionnaire revolving around performance attribution. The theoretical part contains the fundamentals of portfolio theory and the constructive CAPM, followed by basics of portfolio management. Next topics are the estimation of risk and performance for investment portfolios. The finishing touch is done by introduction of performance attribution theories handling both, equity and bond attribution. Within the practical part a short analysis of the affected asset management company is performed, accompanied by research of performance presentation. A questionnaire has been sent to 80 non-banks of the German HDAX index as well as to all members of the BVI. Furthermore an internet based version of the questionnaire has been introduced to a large number of institutional clients. The analysis of this questionnaire is one of the topics of this work. For the affected company the results from the questionnaire are used to identify the competitors’ possibilities and the clients’ needs, resulting in fundamental ideas for the catalogue of requirements. The analysis of the investment process and based on this the choice and the implementation of a performance attribution system are the la...

Maxim Ivashkov Operational Product Performance ACCEL. Analytical approach towards learning how to design successful products

In recent years, industry has stressed the need for graduates who are capable of designing new products. It is not the strongest, not the smartest, but the fittest products become successful. The greatest opportunity to influence performance of new products lies in the early stages of the design process. For more reasons this phase is lacking teaching methodologies, operational models and computer support. Inspired by simplicity and yet strength of the theory of evolution we define an analytical view of the design process which supports appearance of product performance. We introduce a generic operational model supported by a software tool and relate this model to the design terminology and several other theories including creativity techniques, TRIZ, performance management, knowledge management, operations research, software design and genetic algorithms. The conducted case-studies show how our results can be integrated smoothly into the design process and applied in higher design education. This work should help design students to develop analytical skills and approach successful product.

Studienarbeit aus dem Jahr 2009 im Fachbereich Informationswissenschaften, Informationsmanagement, Note: 1,0, Hochschule Deggendorf, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Traditional, inflexible management is inefficient in product development projects: Project members feel uncomfortable and the result does not meet customer's expectation. Therefore project management needs a kind of reorientation. The key success factors are the performance of the project team and the understanding of the customers' needs. Therefore the main goal of today's project management is to create the right environment for the project.Agile project management promises to be a solution: It supports team performance and demands short project cycles. Short iteration and continuous feedback of the customers helps to stay on the right way and to adjust requirements if possible.A popular example of agile project management is SCRUM. This study paper gives an overview about SCRUM itself. It presents roles, ceremonies and artifacts. It shows that SCRUM centers the team and the whole process is build around the team. The rules of SCRUM are simple and can easily be adapted. The focus of this paper is the roles of the process and how SCRUM supports team performance.
