Restoring endodontically treated teeth is a challenge when insufficient coronal tooth structure remains to support a restoration, and the post is commonly used to retain the core. Post and core systems have been used to restore endodontically treated tooth for more than 250 years. Many in-vitro studies have investigated various factors that affect retention of a post. However, very few studies have been done to evaluate the effect of different surface treatment on retention of Glass fiber post, Carbon fiber post and Cast metal posts. This book is written to enlighten and increase our knowledge on various surface treatments and their effect on retention of posts used in Dentistry

The main functions of surface materials are to modify and reinforce the surface functions instead of reforming the composition of the bulk material. Some examples of surface modifications by coating processes include Physical Vapor Deposition (PVD), electron beam physical vapor Depositions (EB-PVD) Chemical Vapor Deposition (CVD), plasma and thermal spraying, sol-gel, cladding and electroplating. Surface modification processes can be classified as hardening by flame, induction, laser or electron beam, high energy treatments, e.g. ion implantation and plasma immersion ion implantation and diffusion treatments, e.g. carburizing and nitriding

This book will be useful for the researcher working in the field of water chemistry. With increasing dependency on ground water for human use its quality become an important factor. The ground water quality of any given area depends upon parent rocks composition, retention time along with input from surface in form of leachate. This study was taken up with purpose to understand the ground water quality in term of water parameter including major cation, anion and trace metals. Spatial distributions of water quality parameter in study area were explained with the help of contour diagrams. Water quality of study area was explained by using geochemical diagrams such as pipers, ternary and mineral diagrams. Statistical analysis such as Factor analysis and correlation analysis were used to understand the factor controlling ground water chemistry.

Technology has allowed the medical field to make many procedures faster and less painful. This applies to dentistry as well. Lasers have become widely accepted in many types of medical practice, and were first used in dentistry in 1994. Lasers work by producing energy in the form of light. It is rather amazing that a tiny beam of light can actually be used as a cutting instrument. It vaporizes the tissue. This light energy also produces heat, which is why it is used to bond fillings and help lighten/whiten teeth. However, if a tooth already has a filling in it, lasers cannot be used. Compared to traditional cutting tools, a laser is extremely sterile—completely germ-free – and actually kills bacteria. Areas worked on by laser typically heal faster than with traditional methods. Lasers can be used in several ways by dental offices. They can remove decay within a tooth or be used to harden/set a filling. Laser dentistry is very precise. It’s an effective way to perform certain dental procedures. It requires the dentist’s ability to control the power level of the laser as well as the length of time that the laser is exposed to the tissue or tooth.

Achievement of stable results is one of the most important goal of orthodontic treatment beyond facial and dental aesthetics, function, health and longevity of the dentition. Over the years retention as a separate phase of orthodontic treatment was largely neglected and therefore clinicians had to face the wrath of relapse of their corrections. A steady evolution in the importance of the retention and appliances has been observed over the last 50 years. Retention appliances have transformed from the bulky, acrylic removable appliances towards the more aesthetic and comfortable invisible retainers, Essix retainers and the fixed bonded retainers. A multitude of factors responsible for post-orthodontic relapse have been recognized by various authors. Hence the orthodontist should be meticulous enough in planning retention and stability of the post-treatment results right at the binging of the treatment itself.

Orthodontic retainers resist the tendency of teeth to return to their pre-treatment positions under the influence of periodontal, occlusal and soft tissue forces, and continuing dentofacial growth. Very few prospective controlled studies have evaluated the effectiveness of retention. In addition, very little is known about patient’s perception in relation to orthodontic relapse. Various studies have shown that fixed retention bonded only to canines have relapse, while others have shown that even though relapse exists, it is not significant or clinically relevant. In the last twenty years hydrophilic interaction liquid chromatography (HILIC) has emerged as a new type of liquid chromatography for separation of polar compounds. In HILIC, a multimodal retention mechanism is present so it is very difficult to predict the impact of chromatographic parameters on the retention and separation of the compounds. Furthermore, the relationship between the pH of the mobile phase, the degree of ionization of the compounds, the surface of the stationary phase and the absorbed water layer is very complex, which significantly complicates the HILIC method development. In this book we experimentally determinate the contribution of partition, adsorption and ion exchange mechanism to the retention of several polar compounds on bare silica column. Also fast, simple and easily applicable HILIC methods for determination of polar compounds in different dosage forms were established using the univariate and design of experiments approach. The book could serve as a guide for the HILIC method development and optimization, and should be useful for practitioners working in analytical method development laboratories.

The retention of first-time, first-year students to their sophomore year is important to institutions of higher education because it predicts the students' ultimate graduation from the institution. Researchers have long asserted that the social environment of an institution influences students' decisions to continue at their schools. One of the most visible social aspects of colleges and universities in the United States is that of the intercollegiate athletic programs. This study focused on institutions with non-scholarship athletic programs and how athletics were incorporated in the overall retention programs of those institutions. Results indicated that athletics were important to these institutions because a large portion of the student population were student-athletes. Thus, the retention of student-athletes affected the overall retention rate of the institution. Effective retention practices are highlighted in the study.

Bachelor Thesis from the year 2012 in the subject Business economics - Business Management, Corporate Governance, grade: A, The University of Liverpool, language: English, abstract: This particular research has been conducted in order to compare the employee retention practices of Tesco and Sainsbury in United Kingdom. This particular research has been conducted through triangulation methodology. Qualitative and quantitative data tools have been employed for comparing the employee retention practices of both competitors. Primary data has been collected through a survey which is conducted through a close end questionnaire. A sample of 100 employees has been selected through convenience sampling technique. The survey generated a response rate of 93%. The findings of the research suggest that Tesco has been more effective in its employee retention practices as compared to Sainsbury. Tesco adopts long lasting and effective tools for employee retention whereas Sainsbury looks for short term gains. The research found that in Tesco, management role, high salaries, extra benefits, and good working environment has been created for influencing employees to stay with the organization for a long time. On the other hand, Sainsbury lacks some important practices such as management role, extra benefits, job authority, job empowerment, and communication across departments which make it ineffective in its employee retention practices. In order to retain key employees for a long time period, i...

Take an in-depth look at the difficulty in gaining traction at the institutional level in improving student retention and degree completion rates—especially at larger four year institutions where size, complexity, and multiplicity of structures and processes present particular challenges. This volume offers a way for institutional leaders to better focus their time, energy, and resources in their retention effort by framing the way they think about it using the 4 Ps of retention strategy: profile, progress, process, and promise. This simple framework challenges long-standing, traditional assumptions about student retention that can distract and dilute institutional efforts, and helps keep those efforts sharply and singularly focused on improving retention and degree completion outcomes. This is the 161st volume of this Jossey-Bass series. Addressed to higher education decision makers on all kinds of campuses, New Directions for Higher Education provides timely information and authoritative advice about major issues and administrative problems confronting every institution.

Thesis (M.A.) from the year 2017 in the subject Business economics - General, grade: -, , course: Masters of Business Administration, language: English, abstract: Customer retention has become a multifaceted and serious consideration for businesses. With the rapid advancement of technology, a growing competitive climate, and the ever-increasing platforms and channels available for customers to purchase services and products, the importance of servicing and engaging with current customers is becoming increasingly evident from a business profitability and sustainability perspective. While after-sale value-added benefits offered to customers through upselling initiatives are believed to be necessary to increase customer retention, further understanding of the type of value-added benefit offered and the timing in which it is offered following the core product sale, is required to determine the extent of the impact it has on customer retention. It is therefore incumbent on companies to develop a robust customer retention strategy that integrates value-added benefits to upscale customer retention and prevent customer churn. The researcher explored the effectiveness of value-added benefits offered via upselling as a strategy to reduce customer churn within a selected authorised financial services provider based in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. A descriptive research design was followed. The researcher conducted a thorough literature review aligned to valueadded benefits as an innovat...
