In recent years, the governance of the health system has become a key issue of discussion for international organisations such as the WHO, the WB, UNDP, USAID and the EC. Furthermore, they state that spending on health would not alone achieve the intended results in health without addressing governance. The study aims to recommend specific strategies to strengthen governance of the DHA in Bihar. In doing so, it first identifies and critically analyses the causes of poor governance. Moreover, it reviews theories and documented effective examples of strengthening governance in the district level health systems in low and middle income countries. The study finally analyses various strategies for strengthening governance and outlines appropriate governance for the DHA. To undertake this study, a framework developed by Brinkerhoff et al. (2008) is used, which covers leadership and management capacity, accountability, community participation and transparency in decision making. The methodology primarily involves reviewing secondary data; however, a number of health and development professionals were contacted to obtain a number of practical experiences.

This research assesses woreda capacity in Gindeberet and Abuna Gindeberet Woreda of West Shoa Zone Oromia National Regional State since the implementation of District Level Decentralization Program. To this end, the study assesses the human resource, financial, managerial, facility capacity as well as the extent to which enabling work environment and community participation is available. The findings indicate that the capacity building program which was launched to address the problem of rural woredas has not brought about significant changes though there are some improvements in terms of community participation, service delivery and responsiveness to customers. However, constraints of resources and its utilization, lack of conducive work condition, lack of strong political leadership and commitment, and lack of governance system are identified as factors responsible for the ineffectiveness of the program. It is therefore recommended that for the capacity building effort to be materialized, there is a need for resources and proper utilization, strong political leadership and commitment, enabling work environment and an improved governance system.

Through the analysis of qualitative data, this interpretative phenomenological study investigated the lived experiences of community college students to gain an understanding of how they perceived their participation in leadership training. The research draws on the data gathered from in-depth interviews with three community college students attending a public institution in the northeastern United States. Utilizing student development theory as a theoretical framework, this study provided rich descriptions of the participants’ experiences following leadership training and the sense they constructed from their experiences. The emergent themes produced by this study included (1) sense of belonging and positive relationships, (2) increased selfconfidence, (3) increased self-awareness and self-monitoring, (4) understanding of personal identity, and (5) willingness to take initiative. This study served as a step to further understand the community college demographic participating in leadership training as there is an inherent lack of empirical literature in this realm.

However, headteachers may lack the leadership skills required of them for effective school management. Thus, the purpose of this study was to assess the types of leadership skills possessed by headteachers, the extent of each type of leadership skills possessed and the relationship between types of leadership skills and years of managerial level experience, with the types of leadership skills possessed by headteachers in Keta Municipality, Akatsi South, and Akatsi North districts of Ghana, as the context. Survey-correlational design was adopted, using a structured questionnaire to gather data from sample size of two hundred and thirty-seven (237) headteachers. Data was analyzed descriptively through frequencies, percentages, means and standard deviations. Findings showed that the headteachers possessed technical skills, human skills and conceptual skills, respectively. With regard to the extent of each type of skill possessed, 62%, 34% and 4% possessed moderate, high and low technical skills, respectively.
