In this work, we introduce new path diversity schemes in order to provide robustness for both unicast and multicast video communication applications over wireless ad hoc networks. We first propose a general architecture for multipath video streaming over wireless ad hoc networks. Then for the unicast case, we propose multipath streaming with two node-disjoint paths, which have minimum concurrent Packet Drop Probability (PDP) among all path pairs. This approach minimizes the probability of concurrent loss of all the descriptions, thus optimizing the worst case Multiple Description Coding (MDC) video quality over all times. Based on our path selection model, we propose a heuristic PDP aware multipath routing protocol. For the multicast case, we propose multiple tree video multicast with MDC. Specifically, we propose two distributed protocols, Serial Multiple Disjoint Tree Multicast Routing (Serial MDTMR) and Parallel Multiple Nearly-disjoint Trees Multicast Routing (Parallel MNTMR). We show video quality of proposed protocols are significantly higher than that of other protocols, through extensive NS simulations and actual experiments.

The emergence of wireless sensor networks has also motivated the integration of a large number of small and lightweight nodes which integrate sensors, processors, and wireless transceivers. Existing books on wireless sensor networks mainly focus on protocols and networks and pay little attention to the sensors themselves which the author believes is the main focus. Without adequate knowledge of sensors as well as how they can be designed, realized and used, books on wireless sensor networks become too theoretical and irrelevant. The purpose of this book is to intimately acquaint readers with the technique of sensing (resistive, capacitive, inductive, magnetic, inertial, etc.) and existing sensor technologies. Diploma Thesis from the year 2001 in the subject Electrotechnology, grade: 1,7, University of Ulm, 34 entries in the bibliography, language: English, abstract: In today's world, there are mainly two types of communication networks: circuitswitched networks and packet-switched networks. The current telephone networks are mostly based on the circuit-switched networks, whereas the Internet is mainly based on the packetswitched networks, which are also called IP networks. However, there is a strong tendency to combine both of these networks, which points to the direction that the IP networks are going to replace services provided by current telephone networks. This would eventually mean that IP networks might replace the telephone networks, in the future.Following are some reasons why IP networks seem to replace the circuit-switchednetworks:· First of all, the IP networks provide cheaper communication. Considering thatthe Internet access is nearly free, the cost advantage of IP networks gets clearer[25].· Secondly, IP networks provide the ability of integrating the data and voiceapplications, and even some other applications, like video-conferencing,integrated voice mail, e-mail, and the like [26].· Another important reason is that IP networks allow open implementation ofend systems. With a reasonable programming knowledge everybody couldimplement an end system for IP networks. In the classical telephony end userscannot implement any end system, but have to use whatever provi...

This book presents the architecture of two networks that make up the backbone of the telephone service VoLTE and video service ViLTE. The 4G mobile network makes it possible to construct bearers through which IP packets, containing either telephone signals (SIP, SDP) or voice or video media (RTP stream), are transported. The IMS network performs the processing of the telephone signal to provide VoLTE and ViLTE services, including call routing and the provision of additional services. Different procedures are described: the set-up and termination of a session, interconnection with third-party networks, roaming and intra-system handover. The inter-system handover PS-CS is a special case that occurs when the mobile loses 4G network coverage over the course of a session. The e-SRVCC mechanism enables continuity of the service during the switch of the telephone communication to the 2G or 3G networks. Master's Thesis from the year 2013 in the subject Communications - Journalism, Journalism Professions, grade: Distinction, Swansea University, course: Erasmus Mundus M.A. in Journalism, Media and Globalization (War and Conflict), language: English, abstract: Since the 1970s, commercial pressures on news media organizations have increased and as a result, television news networks have started to adapt marketing and product differentiation strategies from the Hollywood movie industry. So today, even the war and conflict coverage of 24-hour news networks is subject to heavy promotion and part of the networks' advertising and branding campaigns. These commercial aspects of news production, however, seem to oppose concepts of journalistic quality. Conflict coverage promotion and image spots of 24-hour news networks therefore pose a great opportunity to investigate a phenomenon at the cross-roads of both commercial entertainment television and quality journalism. This study analyses claims ofjournalistic quality and 'high concept' in these spots and how they are linked to better understand the ideological complexes of CNN International and Al Jazeera English. The findings show an equal number of quality and 'high concept' claims with differences in the nature of the claims between the two networks. The way the claims are distributed throughout the modes of visual, voice, sound and music, as well as the way they are linked within and across modes, however, sh...

It provides an overview of security mechanisms and explains how security works in Wireless LAN networks. An in depth analysis of the Wired Equivalent Privacy (WEP), Wi-Fi protected access (WPA) and WPA2 standards is presented. The security vulnerabilities that exist in them are analysed and explained. In the investigation, a wardriving approach is used. It is observed that about 30% of all WLANs detected during network discovery experiment operate with WEP encryption witch further investigated is proved that can be compromised with 100% success. The author discusses the potential consequences that arise from using a weak encryption. Experimental results of penetrating WPA secured network illustrate how easy it is to protect from dictionary attacks by simply using a combination of strong encryption protocol and complex key. The results of the practical part of the project are used to generate guideline in terms of choosing the right encryption method.

In recent trends, video conveying entire wide area network via IP based streaming connectivity. In the past, people listened to an audio broadcast through a radio and watched a video program broadcast through a TV. They used the telephone network to interactively communicate with another party. But now they want to use the Internet not only for text and image communications, but also for audio and video services. The most important in this service is the transmission of voice or video which is done by Voice over Internet Protocol. Thus the transmission of voice over VoIP is done better by WiMAX. But highly developed areas are using only WiFi. Since WiFi is a wireless technology and have many benefits, the number of fixed and mobile users in the particular coverage area also increases. The users in pedestrian environment get a frequent connection to the network than the users in a vehicular environment especially the train. It is due to the lack of coverage distance by the network. So it is very necessary to increase the coverage area for larger distance. The solution to this problem is integrating WiMAX and WiFi.

Master's Thesis from the year 2012 in the subject Computer Science - Technical Computer Science, grade: 70%, Griffith College Dublin (Faculty of Computing ), course: MSC Computing , language: English, abstract: Modern wireless sensor network can be expanded into large geographical areas via cheap sensor devices which can sustain themselves itself with very a low power usage. The networking capability enables these sensor nodes to incorporate, collaborates, and coordinates with among each other , and this is a fundamental shift in the field of networks which differentiates sensor network nodes form other networks such as IP-datagram, Ad-Hoc and so on.Currently, routing in the wireless sensor network faces multiple challenges, such as new scalability, coverage, packet loss, interference, real-time audio and video real time streaming, harsh weather environments, energy constraints and so forth. Network routing can be called an amalgamation of routing protocol and routing algorithm. The job of the routing protocols is to provide a cohesive view of network nodes topology while routing algorithm provides the intelligence in terms of optimal path calculation. We set out to conduct a detailed study of routing protocols in a IP-datagram, wireless ad-hoc and sensor network, and also accomplished routing protocols comparison against the chosen network performance factor dropped packet ratio.Routing protocols play an important role in modern wireless communication networks.Routing pro...
