Recrystallization has been extensively utilized for variety of materials to modify the microstructure and achieving desired mechanical properties. Therefore, characterization of recrystallization is an important aspect. However, most of the existing characterization techniques are either not in-situ in nature or too complex. In the present work, a novel method of spline-based isogeometric approximation and robust numerical differentiation has been originated and employed to the in-situ resistivity data to characterize recrystallization. It has been shown that this method is able to reveal the elusive effects of recrystallization from the in-situ electrical resistivity measurements. An extensive experimental work on Al-Mg and Al-Mg-Fe-Mn alloys, which are extensively used in automotive industry, showed that this method is sensitive, reliable, accurate and efficient. An extensive literature on the recrystallization and related phenomena, resistivity measurements and cubic splines has also been provided in the book. This work should be useful to the people involved in research and development activities, especially characterization of materials, in industry as well as academia.

Gamma-ray spectrometry is a non-destructive technique which has the advantage of not requiring laborious sample preparation. However, in order to obtain activity concentration values in the analyzed samples or the environment, prior knowledge of the full-energy peak efficiency (at each photon energy) for given measurement conditions is required. Usually the efficiency calibration of gamma-ray spectrometric systems is based on the use of standard radioactive sources of very similar geometrical dimensions, density, and chemical composition to the sample under study. To have calibration sources similar to the samples implies conditions that cannot be fulfilled in many cases. One effective procedure to overcome these difficulties is the use of Monte Carlo simulation, which allows the peak efficiencies to be calculated taking into account the detailed characteristics of the detector and sample. In this work, examples on how Monte Carlo simulation is applied for self absorption corrections (environmental samples) and efficiency calibration of detectors for "in situ" measurements are presented. The methodology used for uncertainty calculation in gamma-ray spectrometry is described.

We find that in the pre-transition, collaborative relationship was authority based because of homogenous participant background,command entry barrier,formal decision law on conflict resolution, high sense of liability, rare price adjustment, whereas, in the post-transition, collaborative relationship is trust based or opportunism driven depending on whether long-term partnership and free market competition because of heterogeneous participant background, market entry barrier, economic interest on conflict resolution, divergence of interests causing agency problem, low sense of liability, and flexible price adjustment.

Over the last few years, multi-touch mobile devices have become increasingly common. However, very few applications in the context of 3D geometry learning can be found in app stores. Manipulating a 3D scene with a 2D device is the main difficulty of such applications. Throughout this book, the author focuses on allowing young students to manipulate, observe and modify 3D scenes using new technologies brought about by digital tablets. Through a user-centered approach, the author proposes a grammar of interactions adapted to young learners, and then evaluates acceptability, ease of use and ease of learning of the interactions proposed. Finally, the author studies in situ the pedagogic benefits of the use of tablets with an app based on the suggested grammar. The results show that students are able to manipulate, observe and modify 3D scenes using an adapted set of interactions. Moreover, in the context of 3D geometry learning, a significant contribution has been observed in two classes when students use such an application. The approach here focuses on interactions with digital tablets to increase learning rather than on technology. First, defining which interactions allow pupils to realize tasks needed in the learning process, then, evaluating the impact of these interactions on the learning process. This is the first time that both interactions and the learning process have been taken into account at the same time.

The specific objectives of the study were to assess the extent to which bride price practices affects Management of Sexual and Gender Based Violence against women in Apac District; to explain the effect of cultural norms on Management of Sexual and Gender Based Violence in Apac District; and to establish the extent to which the moderating effect of the composition of LC courts affect the management of sexual and gender based violence against women.Literature on sociocultural and management of SGBV was reviewed. A case study research design was used supplemented by both qualitative and quantitative approaches. An accessible population of 320 elements was used to determine a sample size of 175 respondents. A 71% response rate was obtained. Key findings of the study include a positive significant relationship result for bride price practices (.355**), cultural norms (.580**) and composition of LC courts (.514**) on management of sexual and gender based violence.The study concluded that SGBV acts led to splitting of more families. This study examines the impacts of fiscal policy shock on Ethiopian economy; through applying static compatible general equilibrium (Stage CGE) model which allows quantifying the impacts of fiscal instrument shock on the economy and welfare of households. Fiscal problems like small tax revenue and consistent fiscal deficit put its own major influences on developing economies performance. The study uses 2009/10 Ethiopian SAM as an input for the model and applies three simulation scenarios. In the first simulation, tariff cut affects GDP and household welfare negatively. In the second simulation increasing direct tax has negative impact on total GDP. The other alternative simulation scenario is reducing direct tax and which give a positive change on the total GDP. In general, the government should reduce direct tax to improve economic performance. In addition, liberalizing tariff is not advisable for Ethiopian economy.

During the last years research has shown that Internet-based psychotherapeutic interventions are effective in a number of areas. Based on a cognitive-behavioral treatment protocol for posttraumatic stress disorder (Interapy, Lange et al., 2000), an Internet-based treatment for complicated grief was developed and evaluated and a case study illustrates the treatment procedure. The study evaluated the efficacy of this multiphasic treatment model (self-confrontation, cognitive restructuring, social sharing) on grief-related symptoms, symptoms of general psychopathology and salutary outcome. Further, the online therapeutic alliance as a predictor of salutary treatment outcome was evaluated. Compared with the participants in the waiting control condition, the participants in the experimental group improved significantly on grief-related symptoms and general psychopathology. Overall, treatment effect sizes were large.

The objective of this study is to analyse and evaluate aspects that are important when an R&D tax incentive shall be established in Germany. The study is done both from a business and from an economic policy point of view. It broadens the focus to an European perspective, where the results can be of use in other countries. The study derives relevant research questions and outlines a framework for the evaluation of R&D tax incentives. It provides an overview on the different forms of R&D tax incentives in EU member states in 2010. A discussion then outlines potential models that could be used in Germany.A focus is on the analysis of the incentive's impact on the firm's total tax payments and on the R&D cost by means of a simulation model. Sensitivity analyses use different economic settings and model firms. Another focus is on the empirical analysis of effects from R&D tax incentives and corporate income tax burden on patenting behaviour by using firm-specific patent applications at the European Patent Office (EPO). A substantiated political discussion necessarily needs a projection of potential budgetary costs. Thus, the last focus is on the tax burden and on the overall fiscal costs and applies a micro-simulation model based on a financial statements database to quantify the effects induced by the various models of an R&D tax credit.

Urea prills are produced in the prilling tower, where a cooling-solidification-cooling process of the prills takes place. The ambient air is used as the cooling stream for this process. A case study of the urea prilling process is chosen due to in hot/humid days, the temperature of the product at the bottom of the prilling tower is hot and cannot be packed directly. In addition, the urea prills form lumps and cakes with each other on the scrubber at the bottom of the prilling tower that affects the quality of the product. A mathematical model based on the particle kinematics,and, heat and mass transfer between the urea prills and the cooling air is developed. This is followed by using a numerical technique with an explicit scheme to solve the model. The model numerical results are validated with Scanning Electronic Microscope (SEM) observation of urea particles. Moreover,to investigate the effect of the urea prilling tower configuration parameters on the above urea product problems, the hydrodynamic of air flow inside the tower is analyzed using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulation software.

This study reports on recent doctoral research focused on six academic staff working in early blended learning environments in campus-based contexts at a large Australian university. The case-based research reports on how information and communications technology (ICT) was used by each of these staff, all early adopters of new technologies, to enhance their face-to-face teaching, and how this use contributed to an understanding of blended learning in higher education. Across the cases, seven dimensions of blended learning environments were identified - a significant finding of this study. Overall, the study en­hances understanding of the nature, purpose and scope of early blended learning approaches in a university setting, and highlights the importance of academics' use of resource-based learning to create blended learning environments across a range of courses. The study also establishes reasons why these teachers embraced the use of ICT in their on-campus teaching, and provides insights into how each perceived their teaching role.

Further relation between hardness, dimensional accuracy and surface roughness in vacuum casting and other controllable parameter has been deduced by Taguchi technique L9 orthogonal array (OA). The study highlighted the optimized input parameter settings in-terms of dimensional accuracy, surface roughness, micro-hardness for plastic components. Final component produced are acceptable as per IS standard UNI EN 20286-I (1995) and DIN 16901 standards for plastics.

In this study, we define phase derivatives of analytic signals through non-tangential boundary limits, and consequently raise a new type of derivatives called Hardy-Sobolev derivatives for signals in the related Sobolev spaces. We prove that signals in the Sobolev spaces have well-defined phase derivatives that reduce to the classical ones when the latter exist. Based on the study of several types of phase derivatives and their properties, we mainly work on the following three subjects: (1)We extend the existing relations between the instantaneous frequency and the Fourier frequency and the related ones for smooth signals to those in the Sobolev spaces. (2) Based on the phase derivative theory and the recent result of positivity of phase derivatives of boundary limits of inner functions the theoretical foundation of all-pass filters and signals of minimum phase is established. Both the discrete and continuous signals cases are rigorously treated. (3) We study a particular type of time-frequency distribution exclusively suitable for mono-components, called transient time-frequency distribution(TTFD). For multi-components we carry on a corresponding study.

The situations may reproduce actual situations occurred in practice, for example, the variation of initial voltage Vi, modification of the start time and load value. In this project we have investigated the relation between Total Harmonic Distortion and Power Factor of the IGBT and Thyristor based soft starter. Using an already predefined fire angle characteristic the influence of the initial voltage was also evaluated.Discussion of these results and conclusions as to the near-optimum types of profiles are delineated based on voltage and current profile fed to induction motor, starting times, and distortion in current with change in firing angle.
