We are currently witnessing an increase in telecommunications norms and standards given the recent advances in this field. The increasing number of normalized standards paves the way for an increase in the range of services available for each consumer. Moreover, the majority of available radio frequencies have already been allocated. This explains the emergence of cognitive radio (CR) – the sharing of the spectrum between a primary user and a secondary user. In this book, we will present the state of the art of the different techniques for spectrum access using cooperation and competition to solve the problem of spectrum allocation and ensure better management of radio resources in a radio cognitive context. The different aspects of research explored up until now on the applications of multi-agent systems (MAS) in the field of cognitive radio are analyzed in this book. The first chapter begins with an insight into wireless networks and mobiles, with special focus on the IEEE 802.22 norm, which is a norm dedicated to CR. His work on Quality of Service has led to many publications in journals and conference proceedings. Asma Amraoui is currently a PhD candidate; she is preparing a doctoral thesis on a topic of research that explores the use of artificial intelligence techniques in cognitive radio networks. Based on this information CRS may operate, however, it should not cause harmful interference to existing usage. Regulation should take into account these requirements of shared use. There are a number of questions related to regulatory measures for the introduction of cognitive radio systems. These questions require comprehensive studies and field tests to verify proper functionality. In 2007 the radio communication conference of ITU (WRC-07) approved an agenda item for the conference of 2012 where the regulatory measures to introduce software defined radio and cognitive radio should be studied. In this work, we implemented a spectrum sensing methodology based on the Truncated Sequential Probability Ratio Test (TSPRT). The TSPRT is a combination of SPRT and Neyman-Pearson. We created and simulated the model and observed the variation of quantization error, noise variance and dynamic range of the signal to achieve the minimum average sample number (ASN) and desired error probabilities of detection and false alarm for sine wave and similar input signals. This report comprises of theoretical analysis and practical implementation of spectrum sensing circuit in Xilinx system generator. Simulations are done to observe the effect of various parameters on ASN and shown.

A sample of 58 supermarkets was chosen from the list of 110 supermarkets to which structured questionnaires were issued by drop-and-pick method. The forty-two questionnaires were duly filled and returned. This constitutes 72.4% response which according to Stacks (2011) was adequate for use in analysing and presenting findings for the identified research objectives. The findings indicated that applications that were simple and cheap to install and implement such as CCTV cameras, electronic point-of-sale systems and bar code readers were most prevalent while advanced and relatively expensive ICT applications such as ecommerce, supply chain systems and enterprise resource systems were least used. Starting with electrical spark technology and evolving with valves, semi-conductors came late in the day for point to point radio. These systems were operated with minimal automation and a high degree of human intervention, managing and overcoming the limitations and difficulties of long distance radio propagation.The relative efficiency of point to point radio and the cost of replacement satellite installations resulted in radio playing a part in international telecommunications up to the 1980’s, giving the author direct experience of this fascinating medium.

The current social security systems in Europe have not been able to deal with increased traditional and new risks such as unemployment or work-life balance.
