In this rapidly and highly competitive environment, the success of especially service rendering firms depends on hiring of skilled employees and retention of trained staff. Without effective employees, even the most capital intensive and well structured organization performs its function inefficiently and may place its very survival at risk. High staff turnover results in breakdown of activities, wastage of money and time, and poor performance. So handling of this vital element should get due consideration from the management side of any organization. This study, therefore, tried to identify the causes and effects of staff turnover and the findings will inform managers to design evidence-based interventions to improve staff retention.

Master's Thesis from the year 2013 in the subject Business economics - Personnel and Organisation, grade: A, University of Ghana, Legon (University of Ghana Business School), course: MPhil Human Resource Management, language: English, abstract: The study examined the relationship among antecedents, employee turnover intention and outcome variables. First, it was proposed that pay satisfaction, job satisfaction, affective commitment, transformational leadership, transactional leadership, psychological climate, normative commitment and continuance commitment would antecede employee turnover intention. Next, turnover intention was expected to influence perceptions of absenteeism. Finally, thoughts of quitting was presented as a moderator between turnover intention and absenteeism as acceptable or accountable work behaviour. A nonexperimental, cross-sectional, descriptive correlational design was adopted for the study. Also, the multi-stage sampling method was used to select the three hundred and forty (340) employees who completed the survey instrument. Hypotheses were tested through correlational and hierarchical regression analytic procedures. The antecedent variables were all significant and inversely related to employee turnover intention and employee turnover intention on the other hand was also significantly related to acceptable absence legitimacy. However, for the turnover intention model, the hierarchical regression analysis results indicated that affective commitme...

The appointment of capable top executives is an important strategic decision in every organization. Mismatches in top management positions can severely impact a company. This thesis investigates the influence of the profile of newly appointed top executives in Swiss companies on the probability of turnover in the first years after their appointment, in a quantitative analysis of 77 Top Management Teams over a period of four years (2005-2008). Based on established research findings from the agency theory, the impact of the type of appointment (internal vs. external) is assessed on the likelihood of turnover. From the theory of “Homosocial Reproduction” and Schneider’s attraction-selection-attrition model, the influence of dissimilarity on the probability of turnover is discussed.

An essential guide for those charged with supervision of nonclinical staffin programs, agencies, and units within social service organizations «As someone who has worked in social service agencies, consulted with hundreds of them, and who teaches social service professionals, Ms. Summers knows the issues faced by agencies firsthand. From this experience she has compiled a thoughtful and well-organized text that identifies the principles of effective supervision.» —Samuel Knapp, EdD Director of Professional Affairs, Pennsylvania Psychological Association From the Foreword The care of patients and clients of social service agencies is increasingly being performed by paraprofessionals or professionals with little experience. While there are many books written about giving quality clinical supervision, there is very little on supervising the least experienced frontline nonclinical and clinical staff to teach and promote positive and effective interaction with clients, and provide staff support and training that elevates quality care, improves job satisfaction, and minimizes staff turnover. Based on author Nancy Summers' many years of working with troubled social service agencies, Managing Social Service Staff for Excellence: Five Keys to Exceptional Supervision fills this need and offers numerous ideas for securing the best care for those served by social service agencies. Common problems faced by agencies are examined with regard to employee behavior and wellness, including staff teamwork, how to build healthy staff/client relationships, and the identification and prevention of routine disrespect of clients and their needs. Diagnostic techniques are presented for identifying these problems, as well as remedies and prevention programs that can be put in place without great expense. Filled with interviews and numerous case examples, Managing Social Service Staff for Excellence offers a step-by-step process for: creating good preventive measures to counteract negative practices that can occur; developing robust commitment and enthusiasm; and getting back on the right track after unfortunate incidents have taken place.

Therefore, causal model comprising five variables: one dependent (employees' turnover intention) and four independent/controlled variables (job satisfaction, employees' commitment, safety at job and job autonomy) is formulated.Construction companies cannot flourish and fulfil their customer's needs when their employees are dissatisfied, restricted by too many policies and instructions, not committed to the organization, and are facing significant job hazardousness in their daily assigned tasks. Considerable research has been devoted to develop predictive models of employees' turnover intention, job satisfaction, employees' commitment, job autonomy and safety at work place among the past commonly proposed antecedents. Individual studies have generally supported hypothesized linkages among turnover and these variables. Satisfaction, commitment, job autonomy and job safety for instance, have invariably been reported to be negatively related to emp...
