The present study used hierarchical linear modeling to examine correlates of benefit finding at study entry and individuals trajectories of benefit finding over time among men treated for early stage prostate cancer (n = 261). Correlates associated with benefit finding at study entry included intrinsic religiosity, perceived social support, perceived present control, approach coping, use of emotional support, avoidant coping, and religious coping. Within-persons changes in optimism, perceived social support, perceived present control, approach coping, use of emotional support, avoidant coping, and religious coping were associated with within-persons changes in benefit finding. The association between the trajectories of perceived social support and benefit finding was partially mediated by approach coping and use of emotional support. The findings suggest that coping responses may represent an important mechanism through which changes in benefit finding occur.

The classic approach in Automatic Control relies on the use of simplified models of the systems and reformulations of the specifications. In this framework, the control law can be computed using deterministic algorithms. A correlative study was conducted to test the impact of urban congestion on the avian diversity in Lahore, Pakistan. A feeding station, offering a variety of seeds, was installed in the nine towns of Lahore and the number of birds that visited the station was noted in both the monsoon and winter season.Winter showed a significant increase in the abundance of birds in comparison with the monsoon season.Grain preference observed, proved Bajra, Indian Millet and Red Indian Millet were the preferred seeds in all areas while Mustard seeds, Corn and Chick Peas were least preferred. 49 species were observed in Lahore with the largest diversity in Nishtar Town followed by 41 species in Wagah Town. Only 2 -3 species of birds which were most urbanized were found in Shalimar and Ravi Town, the most congested towns of Lahore.

Two research questions guided the study: 1) Is the use of elements of a structured approach to investigate homicides associated with more solved cases? 2) Are certain characteristics of homicide cases associated with a higher likelihood of detection?The data set for this study comprised all the non-domestic homicides reported to the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service from January 1st 2008 to December 31st 2014 was analyzed against 21 investigative variables and 16 solvability factors. Of these, only 2 investigative variables and 9 solvability factors were found to be strongly associated with solved cases. The two investigative variables were (a) 1st officer secured crime scene; and (b) investigator present at post-mortem. It was revealed that the Fusarium corm rot and yellows disease caused by Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. gladioli severely affected the standing crop and corms of gladiolus during storage. The disease intensity varied from 10 to 40% in the field and 15 to 40% in the store houses. Therefore, the present study was under taken with a view to investigate various aspects of the diseases in field and postharvest storage and its effective and eco-friendly management by using hot water, UV-C, essential oil of Hyptis suaveolens, solarization of soil and fumigation of soil with essential oil. Integrated approach of all these control methods was utilized to control post-harvest Fusarium corm rot of gladiolus and Fusarium wilt and yellows in the fields. Various control methods have been assessed during the study and interestingly the present study confirmed that essential oil from H. suaveolens inhibiting the growth of F.oxysporum f. sp. gladioli leading to irreversible deleterious morphological alterations and thus it is worth exploiting for the Eco-friendly management of the disease.

Consequently, I will suggest solutions to the problems.The PPP approach is used in the previously used lesson plans, form and accuracy are the focus and classroom management is easily achieved. However, free communication and the use of reading skills and strategies are not encouraged. Therefore, I will explore ways to implement a task-based approach in reading to make reading more communicative.The dissertation starts with a description of my context and outline of my research. This is followed by a literature review about the PPP approach, the task-based approach and reading, then previously used lesson plans are analyzed as my data. A checklist which integrates the task-based approach and reading skills and strategies is designed. Based on the evaluation of previously used lesson plans, new ones are designed to implement the task-based approach to reading. The rationale and evaluation of the new lesson plans are discussed. At the end of the study, the limitations of the study are stated, together with suggestions for future research.

Robustness analysis of nonlinear systems is, at present, the subject of intense study. Though largely open at present, questions of system robustness must be addressed as system complexity and nonlinearity grow. In attempting to answer some of these questions and suggest new directions, much research is focused on affine dynamic control systems. The first part of this book presents the one-parameter transformation Lie groups to model nonlinear systems that can lead to a clearer understanding of system performance by producing a more detailed uncertainty model. The approach assumes the case of the generalized nonlinear multi-input multi-output (MIMO) feedback system that can be reduced as required to single-input single-output (SISO). It begins by presenting Lie symmetries simply from the engineering rather than the traditional, highly abstract mathematics perspective. This approach is potentially unifying. The second part derives an uncertainty model of a practical highly nonlinear system, showing that the uncertainty model reduces the system dynamics to a differential inclusion problem, allowing Lie group analysis of affine symmetries with additive perturbations and permitting computer simulations. Several examples are included to validate the approach for a practical illustration. The book is directed at graduate students and researchers in the field of control.

The proposed approach is tested with static and dynamic environments, and validated by using data from an automated container terminal with fleet of autonomous straddle carriers.

Asthma is a common chronic disease in Australia with suboptimal self-care. The peak flow meter (PFM) is a simple device recommended as part of asthma self-management, but is largely underutilised in current practice. This project aims to explore the prospect of a pharmacist-instigated asthma self-management intervention, and whether the introduction of a PFM with appropriate education can improve asthma control and engagement in asthma self-management. The study was designed as a crossover before-and-after randomised controlled-intervention pilot study. Twelve participants completed the study, who were adults living in Darwin, previously diagnosed with asthma and did not use a PFM regularly. Participants in the intervention group were provided with a PFM and asthma education. The study then evaluated participants' awareness and asthma control using validated questionnaires and formative feedback. The effects of PFM utilisation on asthma knowledge and asthma control were not statistically significant in either groups, however, the majority of participants' feedback indicated an increased awareness and better quantification of asthma control.

Hexapods with their high accuracy, high stiffness and dynamic properties are widely used parallel robots in such areas, medical, aviation, astronomy. In this study a method is developed to integrate all required engineering procedures for design and control of robots and applied to hexapod. In solid modeling SolidWorks (Dassault Systems, 2007), in machine dynamics analysis, CosmosMotion, in finite element rigidity analysis CosmosWorks software packages and in motor control software of ADLINK company are used. With VisualBasic software package integration is established by using API ("Application programming interface") of software and ActiveX control properties. Using this method parametric modeling software is developed and hexapod prototype is designed, then manufactured. Again with this method point to point and trajectory motion control software is developed. In addition in this study a mechanical solution for reducing backlash has been designed and applied to the prototype.

In this study, the problem of optimal resource allocation in real-time systems is studied. A recently proposed resource allocation approach called Q-RAM (Quality of Service based Resource Allocation Model) is investigated in detail. The goal of the Q-RAM based approaches is to minimize the execution speed in real-time systems while meeting resource constraints and maximizing total utility. Phased array radar system is an example of a system. In this system, multiple targets are tracked by the radar system simultaneously requiring processor and energy resources of the radar system. In the present study, first, the Q-RAM solution approach to the radar resource allocation problem with single resource type is extended to give a global optimal solution in all possible termination cases. For the case of multiple resource types, the Q-RAM approach can only generate near-optimal results. In this study, for the formulated radar resource allocation problem with multiple resource types, the Methods of Feasible Directions are considered as an alternative solution approach.

The monitoring and control of a system whose behaviour is highly uncertain is an important and challenging practical problem. Methods of solution based on fuzzy techniques have generated considerable interest, but very little of the existing literature considers explicit ways of taking uncertainties into account. This book describes an approach to the monitoring and control of information-poor systems that is based on fuzzy relational models which generate fuzzy outputs. The first part of Monitoring and Control of Information-Poor Systems aims to clarify why design decisions must take account of the uncertainty associated with optimal choices, and to explain how a fuzzy relational model can be used to generate a fuzzy output, which reflects the uncertainties associated with its predictions.
