This study basically deals with the athermal effects and is aimed at investigating the hypothesis that the exposure of microbial cells to MW (low power) may cause athermal effect, which affect on growth of microbes, enzyme activity, and production of exopolysaccharides. Furthermore, we have also checked the effect of different intracellular enzymes on MW treated bacteria. The study assessed the utility of the professional relationships of the mentor, student teacher and lecturer in pre-service teacher preparation in Zimbabwe. Using a descriptive survey design within a case study, through questionnaires and interviews on a sample of 80 host teachers, 32 lecturers and 75 student teachers, data was collected from the three principal parties in the mentoring scheme in three teachers colleges in the Masvingo province of Zimbabwe. The empirical investigation revealed that the tripartite student teacher mentoring scheme, though with high hopes of yielding fruitful results, was flawed with gaps and challenges, rendering the quality of the student teachers' school based professional training some-what wanting. Promising initiatives, especially to do with more dialogue between lecturers and host teachers on aspects of host teaching,as measures to mitigate the challenges were suggested.

This study undertakes a critical assessment of the legal protection of foreign direct investments (FDI) in South Africa and Zimbabwe by determining their compliance with the international minimum standards, norms and/or best practices on the legal protection of FDI by host states. Firstly, the study argues that foreign investment is much needed in South Africa and Zimbabwe to improve economic growth and development, to create jobs, and to increase their competitiveness. However, these benefits are not accrued automatically but rather host states need to create an enabling environment to receive such benefits. Thus, host states need to put an investment scheme into operation to guarantee the legal protection of foreign investments. South Africa and Zimbabwe have at large crafted and implemented investment laws and related policies which tend to be hostile towards foreign investments. Therefore, similar investment laws and related policies in both jurisdictions are analysed. This study will also offer recommendations for a legal investment which is not only flexible, friendly, and favourable to foreign investment in South Africa and Zimbabwe but also advances their local economic policies.

The present investigation was carried out in Randomized Block Design during rabi season of 2005-06 with 25 genotypes derived from wide and intervarietal crosses and 5 checks of chickpea at Crop Research Center of G.B. Pant University of Agriculture and Technology, Pantnagar, Uttarakhand. The observations were recorded on days to 50% flowering, days to maturity, plant height, primary branches/, plant width, pods/ plant, seeds/pod, 100 seed weight and grain yield/plant to study genotypic, phenotypic variability, genetic advance, character association, genetic divergence and genetic relationship using SDS -PAGE. The ANOVA revealed highly significant genetic differences among genotypes for all the characters studied. High values of C.V. were observed for grain yield/plant, 100 seed weight, primary braches/plant and seeds/ pod. Amongst 25 genotypes only PG055 and PG053 were significantly superior for plant width and grain yield/ plant, respectively. Analysis of genotypic character association study revealed highly significant and positive association of days to maturity with plant height (0.496), seeds/ pod and days to 50% flowering (0.491), primary branches/plant and pods/ plant

In this scheme, we address the construction of an efficient PDP scheme for distributed cloud storage to support the scalability of service and data migration, in which we consider the existence of multiple cloud service providers to cooperatively store and maintain the clients' data. We present a cooperative PDP (CPDP) scheme based on homomorphic verifiable response and hash index hierarchy. We prove the security of our scheme based on multi-prover zero-knowledge proof system, which can satisfy completeness, knowledge soundness, and zero-knowledge properties. In addition, we articulate performance optimization mechanisms for our scheme, and in particular present an efficient method for selecting optimal parameter values to minimize the computation costs of clients and storage service providers. Our experiments show that our solution introduces lower computation and communication overheads in comparison with non-cooperative approaches. Plant diversity was studied in the plantations of different species at Wondo Genet. The aim of the study was to evaluate the effect of overstorey species, age, and density of the different plantations on the understorey plant diversity. The plantations species were of Cupressus lusitanica, Eucalyptus grandis, Grevillea robusta and Juniperus excelsa. The age of the stands of the different species ranged between 6 and 23 years. A total of 72 plots, having 20 m x 20 m area were studied under the plantations. A total of 45 understorey plant species were recorded.There was a significant difference among the plantation stands with regards to understory plant density, diversity and number of species. The diversity and number of understory plant species were positively related with age of the plantation stands while understorey plant density was inversely related with overstory plant density and crown cover.The overstorey plantation appeared to affect the abundance of understorey plant species more than the species richness. Canopy cover was significantly associated with understorey plant density under all the plantation stands than other stand characteristics.

BeschreibungThe work at hand participates with the energy transition toward decarbonized electricity production by providing a method to analyze the incentives for the dispatchable fleet to provide flexibility. It analyzes the signals set by the energy markets to investors and power plant operators regarding flexible power plant operation and the future requirement of thermal plant flexibilisation, with improvement suggestions. A method for the quantitative, long-term, high-resolution techno-economic assessment of an individual power plant's operational flexibility is proposed. It includes the single unit self-scheduling problem of a merchant power plant solved from a price-taker perspective in the day-ahead, intraday and frequency control markets, as well as a parametric power plant model suited for operational flexibility assessments. The retroactive observation of the merchant power plants' operation strategies in these markets is used to identify best practices in terms of market design for flexibility incentives. The value of operational flexibility improvements is quantified using various metrics, for different technologies and market environments. Despite their sensitivity to market design, technologies and cost structures, these results indicate that if investors further expect a three to five-year return on investment, the existing European conventional fleet is unlikely to experience a significant flexibilization.

This book is a report on a study which aimed to explore different opinions about the impact of the New Cooperative Medical Scheme (NCMS) on accessibility of healthcare for the rural population in two pilot counties of Fujian province in China. The study was a mixed method study based on key informant interviews, semi-structured interviews, focus group discussions, the participatory matrix ranking method as well as hospital utilisation statistics. The NCMS, which was implemented in China in 2003, is the most recent form of a rural health insurance scheme. It is voluntary and aims to protect rural people from poverty due to illness by reducing out of pocket payments and decreasing catastrophic expenditures. Furthermore, it intends to establish a well managed, well functioning and easily accessible health care system for rural people. The book shows results regarding the structure of the NCMS, the variety of personal circumstances of rural residents, "physical" accessibility, "economical" accessibility, changes in hospital utilisation between 2000 and 2006, and the wishes and the willingness of the rural population to improve the system for the future.

As the result of this disturbance there were two blackouts. In first blackout only the Northern Grid was affected but in the second blackout Northern, Eastern and North-Eastern grid collapsed. A committee formed by the government analyzed the events that resulted in the collapse of system and pointed out no of factors that lead to disturbance.Whole grid collapsed under load encroachment condition. In this thesis different factors have been analyzed using PSCAD simulation and solutions have been proposed.Approximate model of Indian power system has been developed in PSCAD using approximate parameters given in Grid Failure Report issued by the Indian government. Increase in installed capacity of power system and its impact on system frequency and rotor angle has been studied. A new algorithm has been proposed for distance relay operation in Zone 3 to avoid power system blackout using Indian grid model. One of the main factors that lead to the collapse of whole system was the operation of zone 3 distance relay on 400kV Bina-Gwalior Line. This scheme will improve system stability under heavy load conditions. A simplified model in PSCAD was established in order to study the zone 3 protection of distance relay.

Social protection involves choices about whether the core principle behind social provisioning will be universal or selective through targeting. Extreme poverty is regarded as the world's greatest human rights issue. The UN Universal Declaration of Human Rights starts from the idea that all human beings are born free and equal in status and rights. Under the international human rights law, States are legally obligated to establish social protection systems for their citizens, especially the vulnerable and at risk. Social protection in Ghana assumes three main targets for poverty reduction; the first target looks at labour market interventions in terms of employment services, job training, and direct employment generation. The second target deals with social insurance that targets risk mitigation, disability, ill health, old age, health insurance, and the third target is social assistance that provides welfare and social services, cash or in-kind transfers, and subsidies. The interventions under these targets are either universal or targeted. During present study tissue damage in roots infected by Meliodogyne nematodes was observed. Nematodes caused severe damage to whole thickness of the root. Lesions were formed at the site of entry with necrosis, enlargement of cells into giant cells, containing egg masses and sections of larvae. Most cells were with broken walls and exhibited atrophy. This information is useful for plant pathologists, teachers, students and research workers in this field of study.

Seven crude extracts of these plants (leaf, stem and root extracts of C. hierosolymitana, aerial parts of C. leucanthemum, stem and root extracts of E. gerardiana and aerial parts of Q. dilatata) were examined for antimicrobial activity using agar diffusion method and agar tube dilution method, cytotoxicity using brine shrimp assay, antitumor activity using potato disc assay, phytotoxic activity using radish seed bioassayand antioxidant activity by using DPPH radical scavenging assay and free radical induced oxidative DNA damage assay.Two plant extracts of C. hierosolymitana and Q. dilatata showed antibacterial activity. Two plant extracts of E gerardiana and C. leucanthemum showed antifungal activity. Two plant extracts i.e., leaf extract of C. hierosolymitna and root extract of E.gerardiana showed significant brine shrimp cytotoxicity activity (IC50 171.55 to 523.8 ppm). Six of the seven extracts exhibited tumor inhibition at all the three concentrations tested ranging from 10 to 80%. These are main issues the field study has attempted to address. The study has revealed that every component of the 'war on terrorism', every situation in which persons held in Guantánamo were involved and every individual detained there has to be qualified separately. Many persons held in Guantánamo are not at all covered by international humanitarian law (IHL). Others benefit from the fundamental guarantees of International Humanitarian Law of non-international armed conflicts, which do not offer a legal basis for their detention an issue dealt with by domestic law. Present study examines the morphology of Sri Lankan plant fossil of Bennettitales with the type specimens in the Natural history museum UK and details in the literature and systematically documents their diversity for assessing palaeo-environmental significance. Plant fossil-bearing mudstones of Jurassic age are present in a small faulted basin within the Precambrian basement rocks at Tabbowa, in the north western province of Sri Lanka. The present study reveals that fossils of plant species Ptilophyllum, Otozamites, Pterophyllum, Zamites, Dictyozamites of the order Bennettitales of Jurassic period are present in the Tabbowa sedimentary rocks, comparison with type-specimens of the Jurassic species confirms their unique and similar palaeo-environment prior to fragmentation of the Gondwanaland. Since there are no previous detailed morphological descriptions available for the Sri Lankan plant fossils comparing the features of type specimen, we consider that present descriptions provide specific details of Jurassic fossils of Sri Lankan Cycadophyta, facilitating work of future investigators.

The present investigation was carried out to evaluate the safety of the butanol fractionated extract of Asparagus africanus Lam. plant by determining its potential toxicity after single and repeated dose administration in mice. For the acute study, Swiss Albino mice were divided into three groups Group-I, Group-II & Group-III the butanol fraction extract of the plant in single doses of 1000, 3000 and 5000mg/kg body weight, respectively. General behavioral adverse effects and mortality were determined for up to 14 days. In the sub-chronic dose study, the extract was administered orally to two groups of mice at doses of 300 and 600mg/kg body weight/day for 42 days. Selected hematological and biochemical parameters followed by morphological pathology changes were determined after 42 days of daily administration. In the acute study, the butanol fractionated extract of Asparagus africanus plant did not caused dose-dependent general behavioral adverse effects, body weight change and mortality.

Annual average meteorological parameters obtained from India Meteorological Department, New Delhi, have been used for calculating the concentration level in different seasons. Stack height variations and atmospheric stability conditions are found to have appreciable effect. Ground level particulate and SO2 concentrations have been calculated by using point source Gaussian plume model. The estimated SO2 concentrations near power plant in down wind directions are found in critical range while those of particulate are within safety limits.

Many fungi produce mycotoxin, a toxic secondary metabolite. Most A. flavus produces aflatoxin, a type of mycotoxin that is harmful for human, animal, and plant health. Characterization study of this saprophyte is important for the management of various human, animal, and plant diseases as well for surveillance, and other epidemiological study. The study focused on 3 subjects, morphological and physiological study, enzyme activity, and aflatoxin production from ground nut seeds collected from all over India. The growth of this fungus was compared in 4 different media for morphological study and in 4 different temperature on PDA media for physiological study. For enzyme activity, amylolytic, proteolytic, lipolytic, cellulolytic, pectinolytic and catalytic activity were determined. The presence of aflatoxin was performed using thin layer chromatography method. Among 12 isolates, amylase activity was shown by only 12 isolates and there is no clear zone in the remaining 8 isolates. Five isolates did not produce any protease among the 20 tested. Personal interviews and group discussions were conducted to gather information on the indigenous knowledge of thisethnic group. A checklist of 'categories of plant use' was developed and used to identify, categorize and document plant species in the Twanrakhola community. Altogether, 109 plant species belonging to 49 families and 84 genera used for a wide range of purposes in the community are recorded. The people are highlydependent on forest and forest products. Because of their long experience with forests, the 'Bankariya' people have acquired rich knowledge about the utilization of plant resources in various ways. The Twanrakhola community harbours a high diversity of medicinal plants and wild edible plants.
