The purpose of this study is to demonstrate the necessity and implementation of sustainable development in business. Thereby, the study focuses on the food and beverage industry, and uses the examples of Nestlé SA and Kraft Foods Inc.First, the literature review builds the theoretical framework of sustainable development. On the basis of secondary data, the drivers for sustainability, the triple bottom line approach, the shareholder theory, the stakeholder theory, and the stakeholder groups are examined. The case study methodology that relies on public company resources is used to analyse, evaluate, and compare the specific industry drivers for sustainability, and the companies' approaches of sustainable development. To conclude the study, the author draws his conclusions out of the analysis.

Previous research proposed that the concept of Business Models for Sustainability helps business place sustainability at the core of all consideration. A qualitative research was chosen for which we employed the Framework for Strategic Sustainable Development and combined a literature review with an investigation of three expert groups to answer our research question.Our findings showed that, compared to other value forms, system value is the most appropriate concept for businesses striving towards sustainable development. Microbial and plant fuel cell represents a new type of green technology for electricity generation. In this book, batch production of electricity using river water sediment and plant sediment is reported .Experiments were conducted in a single chamber microbial fuel cell and plant fuel cell to study the amount of electricity produced. The study revealed that river water sediments and plants could be used effectively for direct electricity generation in single dedicated fuel cell. Plant fuel technology is still in an early stage of development but shows great promise as new method for renewable electricity generation. Such a system can produce in-situ 24 hours per day green electricity without harvesting the plants. The Plant-MFC concept has several attractive qualities which can provide the significant breakthrough for sustainable energy production in India.

This study investigated the effectiveness of technology innovation grants awarded to 55 secondary school mathematics teachers bet­ween 1997 and 2003. Although professional development resources often are allocated for integrating technology and for applying con­structivist theory into the mathematics classroom, little is known about the return on these investments. The grant recipients were sor­ted into 3 groups, by the grant award date, and descriptive statistics was used to summarize the perceived impact of technology on constructivist statements. A 25-question mail-in survey instrument was used to gather information about teacher level of technology integration, teacher observations of students when using technology, the impact of technology on constructivist behaviors, and other de­mographic data related to years of teaching and courses taught.This study contributes to social change in professional development by providing a model to determine the efficacy of how funds allocated for instructional resources, instructional programming, the purchase and implementation of instructional technology and the allocation of resources to professional development programs.

The purpose of this evaluative study was to describe the adoption of distance learning technology in the adult classroom by teachers who have been trained in state funded programs. The study explored technology training as a potential means for active learner involvement and interaction. The study investigated the effectiveness of teaching strategies used to train educators in the use of technology. This qualitative analysis also focused on professional development training sessions and analyzed teacher participation in the consortium effort developed to train them the most effective use of distance learning technology for reinforcing learning. Participants in the study were 8 educators in the southeast quadrant of the state of Oklahoma. All of the educators had received the initial technology training to be classified as a Master Trainer. In-depth interviews were conducted with six educators. Later follow-up interviews were conducted as a member check. Portions of a training session were observed which involved tow educators as trainers. The open coding method was used to interpret the data. The researcher looked for patterns to emerge from the coded data.

The result of the logistic regression showed that household heads' education level, farm size, credit accessibility, perception of farmers about cost of the inputs and off-farm income positively and significantly affected the farm households' adoption decision; while family size affected their decision negatively and significantly. The result of the propensity score matching estimation showed that the average income and consumption expenditure of adopters are greater than that of non-adopters. Based on these findings it is recommended that the zonal and the woreda leaders extension agents farm and education experts, policy makers and other development oriented organizations have to plan in such a way that the farm households in the study area will obtain sufficient education, credit access...

Although the overall appearance of modern airliners has not changed a lot since the introduction of jetliners in the 1950s, their safety, efficiency and environmental friendliness have improved considerably. Main contributors to this have been gas turbine engine technology, advanced materials, computational aerodynamics, advanced structural analysis and on-board systems. Since aircraft design became a highly multidisciplinary activity, the development of multidisciplinary optimization (MDO) has become a popular new discipline. Despite this, the application of MDO during the conceptual design phase is not yet widespread. Advanced Aircraft Design: Conceptual Design, Analysis and Optimization of Subsonic Civil Airplanes presents a quasi-analytical optimization approach based on a concise set of sizing equations. Objectives are aerodynamic efficiency, mission fuel, empty weight and maximum takeoff weight. Independent design variables studied include design cruise altitude, wing area and span and thrust or power loading. Principal features of integrated concepts such as the blended wing and body and highly non-planar wings are also covered. The quasi-analytical approach enables designers to compare the results of high-fidelity MDO optimization with lower-fidelity methods which need far less computational effort. Another advantage to this approach is that it can provide answers to “what if” questions rapidly and with little computational cost.
