This book focuses on fabrication of ZnO/CdS optical sensor. Nanocrystalline ZnO/CdS core-shell optical sensors were fabricated by chemical bath deposition (CBD) method. Vertically aligned ZnO nanorods were firstly synthesized on silicon p-type (111) by CBD method with assist of microwave. The CdS were deposited on the ZnO nanorods to create core-shell structure by using CBD method with cadmium chloride (CdCl2) 0.15M as Cd2+ ion source at difference deposition time. ZnO nanorods were the core and CdS were the shell of this core-shell structure. The photoconductive testing was carried out to test this optical sensor light detection by shining ultraviolet (UV) light pulse on the devices. The devices affect the light absorption and have higher sensitivity to the light. The highest sensitivity reached 53% for the ZnO/CdS optical sensor while the ZnO optical sensor only 6.77% and ZnO/CdS can response to high frequency light pulse. The energy band gap of ZnO/CdS was also lowered to 3.3eV compared to ZnO, 3.38eV. These results demonstrate the existence of CdS has enhanced the ability and the properties of optical sensor compared to ZnO nanorods optical sensor alone.

Demonstrates techniques which will allow rewiring rates of over 95%, enabling adoption of deep sub-micron chips for industrial applications Logic synthesis is an essential part of the modern digital IC design process in semi-conductor industry. This book discusses a logic synthesis technique called “rewiring” and its latest technical advancement in term of rewirability. Rewiring technique has surfaced in academic research since 1993 and there is currently no book available on the market which systematically and comprehensively discusses this rewiring technology. The authors cover logic transformation techniques with concentration on rewiring. For many decades, the effect of wiring on logic structures has been ignored due to an ideal view of wires and their negligible role in the circuit performance. However in today’s semiconductor technology wiring is the major player in circuit performance degeneration and logic synthesis engines can be improved to deal with this through wire-based transformations. This book introduces the automatic test pattern generation (ATPG)-based rewiring techniques, which are recently active in the realm of logic synthesis/verification of VLSI/SOC designs. Unique comprehensive coverage of semiconductor rewiring techniques written by leading researchers in the field Provides complete coverage of rewiring from an introductory to intermediate level Rewiring is explained as a flexible technique for Boolean logic synthesis, introducing the concept of Boolean circuit transformation and testing, with examples Readers can directly apply the described techniques to real-world VLSI design issues Focuses on the automatic test pattern generation (ATPG) based rewiring methods although some non-ATPG based rewiring methods such as graph based alternative wiring (GBAW), and “set of pairs of functions to be distinguished” (SPFD) based rewiring are also discussed A valuable resource for researchers and postgraduate students in VLSI and SoC design, as well as digital design engineers, EDA software developers, and design automation experts that specialize in the synthesis and optimization of logical circuits.

During my M.S. thesis work I was involved in a multistep synthesis of solid support bearing a modified nucleoside for automated synthesis of siRNAs. First, I developed a three-step synthesis of protected 5'-amino uridine from uridine. Next I prepared the 3'-succinate of 5'-amino uridine in a one-pot two-step synthesis and attached it to a solid support via a succinamide linker. I had analyzed and characterized all new compounds using NMR techniques. Others in our laboratory used this solid support for synthesis of amide-modified siRNAs. We anticipate that the amide linkages will facilitate crossing the cellular membrane and improve nuclease resistance, biodistribution and pharmacokinetics of modified siRNAs.

This opens up the possibility for a plethora of applications at the interface of materials, chemistry, physics and biology, many of which have already entered the commercial realm. When nanomaterials are blended with other materials not necessarily in the nanometer regime, the resulting nanocomposites can exhibit dramatically different properties than the bulk material alone, leading to an enhanced performance in terms of, for example, increased thermal and mechanical stability. This book presents the synthesis, characterization and applications of nanomaterials and nanocomposites, covering zero-dimensional, elemental nanoparticles, one-dimensional materials such as nanorods and nanowhiskers, two-dimensional materials such as graphene and boron nitride as well as three-dimensional materials such as fullerenes, polyhedral oligomers and zeolites, complemented by bio-based nanomaterials, e.g., cellulose, chitin, starch and proteins. Introductory chapters on the state-of-the-art of nanomaterial research and the chemistry and physics in nanoscience and nanotechnology round off the book.

The first concept of solid phase synthesis was performed by Merrifield (1) in a dipeptide synthesis from two amino acids. Not surprisingly, Solid phase synthesis did not remain limited to peptides, but also it was extended to heterocycles, so many synthesis methods in solution phase had been transferred to solid phase processes. So, solid phase organic synthesis had become very attractive route of synthesis due to its simplicity of separation of synthetic intermediates from soluble components of a reaction mixture by simple filtration and washing of the resin bound reaction product.

Topics covered include: introduction to transition metals in organic synthesis coupling reactions C-H activation carbonylative coupling reactions alkene and alkyne insertion reactions electrophilic alkene and alkyne complexes reactions of alkyne complexes carbene complexes h3- or p-allyl -allyl complexes diene, dienyl and arene complexes cycloaddition and cycloisomerisation reactions For this second edition the text has been extensively revised and expanded to reflect the significant improvements and advances in the field since the first edition, as well as the large number of new transition metal-catalysed processes that have come to prominence in the last 10 years – for example the extraordinary progress in coupling reactions using “designer” ligands, catalysis using gold complexes, new opportunities arising from metathesis chemistry, and C-H activation – without neglecting the well established chemistry of metals such as palladium. Organic Synthesis Using Transition Metals, 2nd Edition will find a place on the bookshelves of advanced undergraduates and postgraduates working in organic synthesis, catalysis, medicinal chemistry and drug discovery. It is also useful for practising researchers who want to refresh and enhance their knowledge of the field.
