Of those in management education who debates whether business ethics should be taught as a stand-alone course or in an embedded manner, most recommend combining both approaches for optimal results. This book provides unique insights into the experience of seasoned academics who embed business ethics in teaching management theory and practice. Its multidisciplinary approach enriches its content, since the insights of our colleagues from within their fields are invaluable. It therefore complements other business textbooks. After general themes (curriculum integration, adult learning, learner commitment, and generation Y classrooms), this volume covers ethics and responsibility in people management, team building, change management; operations management, business law, and digital marketing communications. The book provides a platform to share experiences of teaching ethical profitability. It contributes to resolving concerns experienced when faculty wish to incorporate ethics into their teaching but feel they lack preparation or ideas on how to do it. The chapters describe each discipline briefly, raise the typical ethical issues therein, and suggest teaching strategies and exercises or projects. The 'developing versus developed country perspectives' sections may interest schools with high student diversity. The book also meets in-company training needs for attaining and sustaining an ethical culture.

The objectives of the study were to find out how the cooperating primary school teachers mentored the teacher trainees on: schemes of work and lesson plans; selection and application of instructional methods; lesson presentation and on professional ethics. The theoretical frame work used was based on developmental supervision theory by Glickman (2003). The study adopted a descriptive survey research design. It targeted cooperating teachers from 26 public primary schools from Kakamega and Vihiga Counties in Western Kenya and the student teacher trainees of Eregi and Kaimosi Teachers College who had undertaken teaching practice in the targeted primary schools. Two cooperating teachers who had handled teacher trainees during teaching practice for at least one year were selected from the schools through simple random sampling. Despite four decades of good faith effort to teach ethics in business schools, you'll still find today headlines about egregious excess and scandal. It becomes reasonable to ask why these efforts have not been working. Business faculty in ethics courses spend a lot of time teaching theories of ethical reasoning and analyzing those big, thorny dilemmas-triggering what one professor called "ethics fatigue." But what if faculty stopped focusing on ethical analysis and focused on a new curriculum-one that builds a conversation across the core curriculum (not only in ethics courses) and also provides the teaching aids for a new way of thinking about ethics education? This is where Giving Voice to Values (GVV) comes in-the GVV curriculum asks the question: "What if I were going to act on my values? What would I say and do? How could I be most effective?" This book will help faculty across the business curriculum with examples, strategies, and assistance in applying the GVV approach. In addition to an introductory chapter, which explains the rationale and strategy behind GVV, there are twelve individual chapters by faculty from the major business functional areas and from faculty representing different geographic regions. The book is a useful guide for faculty from any business discipline on HOW to use the GVV approach in his or her teaching.

Employ cognitive theory in the classroom every day Research into how we learn has opened the door for utilizing cognitive theory to facilitate better student learning. But that's easier said than done. Many books about cognitive theory introduce radical but impractical theories, failing to make the connection to the classroom. In Small Teaching, James Lang presents a strategy for improving student learning with a series of modest but powerful changes that make a big difference—many of which can be put into practice in a single class period. These strategies are designed to bridge the chasm between primary research and the classroom environment in a way that can be implemented by any faculty in any discipline, and even integrated into pre-existing teaching techniques. Learn, for example: How does one become good at retrieving knowledge from memory? How does making predictions now help us learn in the future? How do instructors instill fixed or growth mindsets in their students? Each chapter introduces a basic concept in cognitive theory, explains when and how it should be employed, and provides firm examples of how the intervention has been or could be used in a variety of disciplines. Small teaching techniques include brief classroom or online learning activities, one-time interventions, and small modifications in course design or communication with students.

Aristotle's Ethics and Politics are the main sources of philosophy that he was known for. In Ethics he argued for the view that virtues are what make up the ethical behaviour of any person. In order to be a "good person" ethics must be present in the form of virtues. Meanwhile in Politics, he argues that the city or state must come before family which comes before the individual. The idea that the need s of the many outweighs the needs of the few had its roots in Aristotle's philosophy of politics.

She asks what reflective teaching is and finds her answers in the classroom and teaching supported by relevant literature she has studied. She names and explains the procedures she uses with her classes and analyses the outcome they bring in students' learning. The students go through different reflective procedures depending on their age and level of English. She divides her work into primary school learners, secondary school learners and adult learners respectively. Finally the author draws self-reflection additionally to the reflections she experiences together with her students. In conclusion she summarizes all the aspects that helped her become the reflective teacher.

Ethics in Ancient Israel Ethics in Ancient Israel Новинка

Ethics in Ancient Israel

2095 руб.
Ethics in Ancient Israel is a study of ethical thinking in ancient Israel from around the eighth to the second century BC. The evidence for this consists primarily of the Old Testament/ Hebrew Bible and Apocrypha, but also other ancient Jewish writings such as the Dead Sea Scrolls and various anonymous and pseudonymous texts from shortly before the New Testament period. Professor John Barton argues that there were several models for thinking about ethics, including a 'divine command' theory, something approximating to natural law, a virtue ethic, and a belief in human custom and convention. Moreover, he examines ideas of reward and punishment, purity and impurity, the status of moral agents and patients, imitation of God, and the image of God in humanity. Barton maintains that ethical thinking can be found not only in laws but also in the wisdom literature, in the Psalms, and in narrative texts. There is much interaction with recent scholarship in both English and German. The book features discussion of comparative material from other ancient Near Eastern cultures and a chapter on short summaries of moral teaching, such as the Ten Commandments. This innovative work should be of interest to those concerned with the interpretation of the Old Testament but also to students of ethics.

Today it has become essential to understand the basic principles of science as it has become an integral part of life. Many issues facing mankind require an understanding of scientific principles by the public and by decision makers. Science has to play an important role in affecting utilitarian values system. Utilitarian value dimensions of science can be understood clearly if its nature and processes are understood first. When children grow and come to school to learn science, they are confronted with many directions with certain pre-notions and beliefs about natural phenomena which they normally get from parents, society and environment. There is need to consider those beliefs and values which the child has learnt before coming to school, and to evolve a strategy for teaching science with proper consideration of cultural, social, emotional, and above all, human values. Teaching of science, taking these values into consideration, will be quite helpful in developing a positive attitude in the minds of the child. This study will be helpful for every student; educationists, teachers, parents and policy makers to frame the syllabus of science in modern era.
