One of the characteristics of the development of chemical science in the middle of the present century is the vigorous pro gress of the "third chemistry," which is often named now the chemistry of heteroorganic compounds. Then in the last decade, among specialists in this field there has been a marked increase in interest in heteroatomic organic derivatives of silicon, i. e. , heteroorganic silicon compounds. However, until recently this new class of chemical substances, which is extremely interesting theoretically and practically, has been without a single specialized monograph which systematizes and generalizes all progress in the heteroorganic chemistry of silicon. The first attempt in this direction was our book "Heteroorganic Compounds of Silicon" [42 (F), 17 (S) *], which appeared at the end of 1966 and was published as an English translation in the USA in 1969. However, as follows from its subtitle "Derivatives of Inorganic Elements," this mono graph could not cover the whole broad field of the chemistry of heteroorganic compounds of silicon. The main reason for this was above all the abundance and variety of original investigations of organosilicon derivatives of inorganic elements, which was un expected even to the authors themselves. This book highlighted the chemistry of dibenzobarallene. Syntheses, reactions and the biological importance of dibenzobarallene were investigated. In this context, novel compounds were prepared in this book based on dibenzobarallene ring system namely; bromopropoxy, butoxy, p-tolyl-sulphonate, propionyl chloride, N-phenyl-prpionamide, isoindoledione, ethyl acetamide, phthalazinediones and poly nuclear heterocyclic systems. The investigated compounds exhibited good antimicrobial activities. Finally, the materials and methods used to synthesize the investigated compounds and biological evaluation were included.

The usefulness of heterocycles is due to their combination of compact and robust molecular structures with a high degree of molecular diversity that results in properties, which can be finely adjusted to the needs of sophisticated applications. This is well illustrated by the functions of many naturally occurring heterocycles that are essential components of living cells, including DNA in which specific nitrogen heterocycles are directly responsible for encoding all genetic information. Morphine and quinine, two of the earliest compounds to be used in therapy and in use today, are both heterocyclic natural products. William Perkin's synthesis of the lucrative quinine molecule in 1856 led to the discovery of an important synthetic heterocycle, mauveine, and this laid the foundation of the synthetic dye industry. This in turn gave birth to the modern industry when in 1932 the antibacterial properties of the dye lead to the discovery of heterocyclic sulfapyridines. These antibacterial agents were the first major life saving synthetic drugs and they quickly had a dramatic effect on the quality of life.

For a compound to undergo Initiation, it must be such that has what is called Activation center(s) wherein there are three kinds of many types. The past decade has seen a significant increase of research aimed at discovering new drugs for treating cancer, and the increasing number of new antineoplastic drugs approved by regulatory agencies reflects this. Until now, details on the synthesis of these newer agents have been scattered in various journals and in US and European patents. This timely volume deals with the organic chemistry involved in the synthesis of the agents found within antineoplastic drugs, including descriptions of the synthetic schemes for the preparation of over 200 compounds that have been granted non-proprietary names. Compounds are collected in chapters based on the mechanism of action rather than on their chemical structures. Each individual chapter is preceded by a brief description of that mechanism and includes detailed flow charts of the preparation of those compounds accompanied by discussions of the organic chemistry involved in each step. The first half of this volume is dedicated to the syntheses of established chemotherapy drugs. Kinase inhibitors occupy the following chapters with the largest single chapter dealing with the fifty compounds that inhibit tyrosine kinase. This class stands out since over twenty compounds in this group have been approved for treating patients; a rare track record compared to any other class of therapeutic agents. Antineoplastic Drugs: Organic Syntheses is written to appeal to organic and medicinal chemists in industry and academia.
