Cordoba is Argentina's second-largest city, a university town that became the center of its automobile industry. In the decade following the overthrow of Juan Peron's government in 1955, the city experienced rapid industrial growth. The arrival of IKA-Renault and Fiat fostered a particular kind of industrial development and created a new industrial worker of predominantly rural origins. Former farm boys and small-town dwellers were thrust suddenly into the world of the modern factory and the multinational corporation. The domination of the local economy by a single industry and the prominent role played by the automobile workers' unions brought about the greatest working-class protest in postwar Latin American history, the 1969 Cordobazo. Following the Cordobazo, the local labor movement was one characterized by intense militancy and determined opposition to both authoritarian military governments and the Peronist trade union bureaucracy. These labor wars have been mythologized as a Latin American equivalent to the French student strikes of May-June 1968 and the Italian "hot summer" of the same period. Analyzing these events in the context of recent debates on Latin American working-class politics, Brennan demonstrates that the pronounced militancy and even political radicalism of the Cordoban working class were due not only to Argentina's changing political culture but also to the dynamic relationship between the factory and society during those years. Brennan draws on corpo...

The recent shift to lower growth, rising unemployment, renewed European integration, neo-liberalism, and globalization has challenged this "European Model" and the unions' place in it. These essays, written by some of the leading scholars in the field, examine responses of six major European union movements to the dramatic changes in economic and political conditions in the last two decades. A concise history of labor and work in America from the birth of the Republic to the Industrial Age and beyond From the days of Thomas Jefferson, Americans believed that they could sustain a capitalist industrial economy without the class conflict or negative socioeconomic consequences experienced in Europe. This dream came crashing down in 1877 when the Great Strike, one of the most militant labor disputes in US history, convulsed the nation’s railroads. In The Dawning of American Labor a leading scholar of American labor history draws upon first-hand accounts and the latest scholarship to offer a fascinating look at how Americans perceived and adapted to the shift from a largely agrarian economy to one dominated by manufacturing. For the generations following the Great Strike, “the Labor Problem” and the idea of class relations became a critical issue facing the nation. As Professor Greenberg makes clear in this lively, highly accessible historical exploration, the 1877 strike forever cast a shadow across one of the most deeply rooted articles of national faith—the belief in American exceptionalism. What conditions produced the faith in a classless society? What went wrong? These questions lie at the heart of The Dawning of American Labor. Provides a concise, comprehensive, and completely up-to-date synthesis of the latest scholarship on the early development of industrialization in the United States Considers how working people reacted, both in the workplace and in their communities, as the nation’s economy made its shift from an agrarian to an industrial base Includes a formal Bibliographical Essay—a handy tool for student research Works as a stand-alone text or an ideal supplement to core curricula in US History, US Labor, and 19th-Century America Accessible introductory text for students in American history classes and beyond, The Dawning of American Labor is an excellent introduction to the history of labor in the United States for students and general readers of history alike.

Whereas the history of workers and labor movements has been widely researched, the history of work has been rather neglected by comparison. This volume offers original contributions that deal with cultural, social and theoretical aspects of the history of work in modern Europe, including the relations between gender and work, working and soldiering, work and trust, constructions and practices. The volume focuses on Germany but also places the case studies in a broader European context. It thus offers an insight into social and cultural history as practiced by German-speaking scholars today but also introduces the reader to ongoing research in this field.Jürgen Kocka taught Social History at the University of Bielefeld for many years, after which he was appointed Professor of History of the Industrial World at the Free University of Berlin and Research Professor at Berlin Social Science Research Centre (WZB). It is the concept that is most firmly associated with his name and remains a classic work to this day.

Ruth O'Brien Workers. Paradox. The Republican Origins of New Deal Labor Policy, 1886-1935

Reinterpreting the roots of twentieth-century American labor law and politics, Ruth O'Brien argues that it was not New Deal Democrats but rather Republicans of an earlier era who developed the fundamental principles underlying modern labor policy. By examining a series of judicial rulings from the first three decades of the century, she demonstrates that the emphasis on establishing the procedural rights of workers that is usually associated with the National Labor Relations Act of 1935 actually emerged over a decade earlier, in the Republican-formulated labor legislation of the 1920s. O'Brien's findings underscore a paradox within the foundation of labor policy and the development of liberalism in the United States. The leaders of the liberal state created a strict regulatory framework for organized labor only after realizing that the mainstream labor movement's capacity for collective power threatened to undermine individualism and classlessness in American society. In other words, O'Brien argues, the individualism that accounts for the overall weakness of the liberal state also produced America's statist labor policy.

But recently the Ethiopian government endorsed Growth and Transformation Plan (GTP) which gives prime attention to selected industries. This study examines the likely effect of productivity expansion of labor intensive industrial activities on the macro economy, government priority industries, factor and household income and welfare of households. The sectors were selected from the Ethiopian 2009/10 SAM based on their production characteristics. The selected labor intensive sectors include dairy, grain milling, milling service, sugar refining, other food process, beverage, textile, leather product and wood products. In order to investigate the impact of a 10% increase in the technical coefficients of these labor intensive industrial activities, the study used the static stage computable general equilibrium (CGE) model. The recently updated 2009/10 Ethiopian SAM was used to calibrate important parameters of the CGE models. The 2009/10 Ethiopian SAM revealed that 45.22% and 52.13% of rural and urban households generate their income from labor. The focus of this study is on the invisibility of emotional labor for faculty members in private liberal arts colleges. Here, Hochschild's (1983) position is that the condition for emotional labor interactions has three requirements, first face-to- face or voice-to-voice contact with a client or customer, second the employee is required to produce an emotional state in another person (client or customer), and third that these jobs allow the employer to exercise a degree of control over the emotional activities of employees through training and supervision. In addition this study uses the social exchange framework to determine if emotional labor is exchanged for Christine Maslach's (1976) burnout characteristics of depersonalization, exhaustion and or self-accomplishment.

From 'Che' to China: Labor and Authoritarianism in the New Global Economy argues that globalization is not a progressive force that is giving rise to a new democratic capitalism. In fact, authoritarianism, in part influenced by neo-stalinist regimes and their intellectual architects such as 'Che' Guevara, remains an important political force and the new global capitalism itself is contributing to its persistence. In particular, the labor organization is now seen by authoritarian regimes as a source of power and control over the general population. To realize the democratic potential in the globalization process, a new autonomous labor movement responsible to its rank and file members must emerge. This requires an intellectual break with the consensus view that capitalism can safely accommodate healthy trade unions in a stable world order.About the Author:Stephen F. Diamond is a law professor and political scientist on the faculty of the School of Law at Santa Clara University. His research concentrates on the impact of globalization on social, political and financial institutions. He is co-editor with Lance Compa of Human Rights, Labor Rights and International Trade. Seminar paper from the year 2014 in the subject Economics - Job market economics, grade: 2,0, , language: English, abstract: In common theory labor is often treated like a normal commodity. This point of view is represented by neo-classical economists. Resulting in their general statement that markets - including the labor market - are driven only by supply and demand thus regulating themselves. Hence there is no space for any external interventions which due to the neo-classical opinion always have a negative effect. This provoking statement leads to the question whether this scenario can be observed in real world. Based on the book "Debunking Economics" by Steve Keen the following research paper wants to provide a differentiated view concerning labor and how it can be treated in the economy. The first part of the dissemination paper reviews the neo-classical perspectives on the labor market followed by a reproduction of Keen's critical review concerning the neo-classical theory and his own elaboration of the labor market. The principle part concentrates on the treatment of labor force in the labor market and the possible outcome of several policies such as introducing or altering minimum wages, unemployment insurance (UI) and trade unions. Regarding to the research question whether an impact of the government has positive or negative impact on the labor market, the aim is to establish a link between labor market regulations, economic policies and theory. The benefits of FDI to host countries are inward of capital and technology that enhance innovation thereby potentially improving economic growth. The inflows of FDI will be depending on favorable location factors at host country like labor market condition. The labor markets at host countries play an important role to adapt the inflows from FDI. Host country with low levels of employment protection and flexible of labor market are commonly perceived to provide an environment conducive to investment. Our discussion is to examine the role of labor market flexibility in mediating the impact of FDI on economic growth in developing countries. We employ threshold estimation method proposed by Hansen (1999, 2000) on a comprehensive sample period from 2000 to 2010. We finds that countries that group above threshold value of more flexibility of labor market has a positive impact, where this result indicate that labor market flexibility play an important role in mediating FDI on economic growth in developing countries.

Originally written in 1882, The State in Relation to Labour is a treatise discussing the rights of workers (specifically blue-collar or factor workers) and how certain workers or jobs should be governed, both by factory owners and labor laws. Author W. Stanley Jevons discusses the principles of factory legislation, interference in industry by both the government and labor unions, acts and laws that directly affect laborers, and methods of cooperation and compromise between laborers and their superiors. Jevons wrote several books that dealt with issues of the industrial age, and this would have come at a time when industrial laborers greatly needed an advocate. Jevons avoids supporting either side, striving for a neutral conclusion as to how the state and laborers should interact, resulting in an interesting study of labor policies for history buffs and political science students.English economist and logician WILLIAM STANLEY JEVONS (1835-1882) was born in Liverpool. He studied chemistry and botany at University College, London, and was later professor of logic and political economy at Owens College, Manchester. He is also the author of The Theory of Political Economy (1871) and The State in Relation to Labour (1882).

In this book, Angela Vergara tells the story of the labor movement in Chile through the experiences of workers in copper mines owned by Anaconda, a major multinational corporation. Relying on archival sources, newspapers, and oral histories, she recounts the workers' economic, political, and social struggles over the forty-five-year period when the Cold War dominated politics. The labor movement, Vergara argues, was a progressive force instrumental in the introduction of national reforms and the radicalization of politics. In Chile its role is critical to understanding the expansion of the welfare state in the 1950s, the introduction of social reforms in the 1960s, and the Chilean road to socialism in the early 1970s. The book reveals the historical origin of the implementation of neoliberal policies, the erosion of labor rights, and the emergence of the so-called Chilean economic model championed by the "Chicago boys." Many of the changes undertaken in the 1970s and 1980s, the book shows, had their impetus in the crisis of the import-substitution effort of the late 1950s.

The onset of this paper is a riddle. A number of scholars stress the positive impact of remittances on a society and its democratization. The Philippines has successfully sought to gain more remittances through a state driven labor export scheme and has been for many years among the top receiving countries in the world. Despite those conditions deemed propitious to democratization, the Philippines show many democracy deficits. Several scholars have claimed that remittances impact positively on democratization. However, a range of democratization indicators for the Philippines, belie this assertion. This paper delves into various aspects of the democratization, migration and remittance dynamics. Firstly, it examines the scholarly work on remittances (always understood in a wider sense, as comprising social and financial remittances) and the democratization history in the Philippines. Secondly, it argues the methodology used for this paper. Thirdly, it evaluates and describes a selected number of particularities of the Philippine democratic system and its labor export scheme. It interprets the impact of remittances on democratization in the Philippines before drawing conclusions.TABLE OF CONTENTSIntroduction 5Rese...

In response to mounting debt crises and macroeconomic instability in the 1980s, many countries in the developing world adopted neoliberal policies promoting the unfettered play of market forces and deregulation of the economy and attempted large-scale structural adjustment, including the privatization of public-sector industries. How much influence did various societal groups have on this transition to a market economy, and what explains the variances in interest-group influence across countries? In this book, Agnieszka Paczyńska explores these questions by studying the role of organized labor in the transition process in four countries in different regions-the Czech Republic and Poland in eastern Europe, Egypt in the Middle East, and Mexico in Latin America. In Egypt and Poland, she shows, labor had substantial influence on the process, whereas in the Czech Republic and Mexico it did not. Her explanation highlights the complex relationship between institutional structures and the "critical junctures" provided by economic crises, revealing that the ability of groups like organized labor to wield influence on reform efforts depends to a great extent on not only their current resources (such as financial autonomy and legal prerogatives) but also the historical legacies of their past ties to the state. This new edition features an epilogue that analyzes the role of organized labor uprisings in 2011, the protests in Egypt, the overthrow of Mubarak, and the post-Mubarak reg...

There are many attempts coming from EU institutions aiming at harmonizing EU labor immigration policy. These efforts have faced many blockages from EU member states and a common labor immigration policy does not exist. The main question this thesis attempts to answer is why there is no common economic immigration policy at EU level in spite of the benefits this could bring. The main hypothesis is that member states are the key players in deciding whether a policy will be harmonized at the EU level or whether it will remain under the sovereignty of national executives. This study discusses important aspects of labor immigration policy at the member states' domestic sphere and at EU level. As the thesis aims to disclose the role of EU member states in the harmonization process of labor immigration policy, a Liberal Intergovernmentalist framework analysis is employed. This thesis concludes that it is EU member states who are the main actors driving the EU integration process. There is a great diversity across states on labor immigration policy and the importance labor immigration poses for EU members, as yet they have not agreed upon a common policy.

Amid the turmoil of conflicting world forces, economic and social, the origin and development of the labor movement has been obscured. This is a study of its main outlines in those countries where it first became coherent. England was the first country to produce a continuous labor movement, followed by France and then Germany, which contributed some of the most enlightened social legislation in the world.Originally published in 1942.A UNC Press Enduring Edition -- UNC Press Enduring Editions use the latest in digital technology to make available again books from our distinguished backlist that were previously out of print. Friendship is an essential part of human experience, involving ideas of love and morality as well as material and pragmatic concerns. Making and having friends is a central aspect of everyday life in all human societies. Yet friendship is often considered of secondary significance in comparison to domains such as kinship, economics and politics. How important are friends in different cultural contexts? What would a study of society viewed through the lens of friendship look like? Does friendship affect the shape of society as much as society moulds friendship? Drawing on long-term ethnographic fieldwork in Asia, the Middle East, Africa, Latin America and Europe, this volume offers answers to these questions and examines the ideology and practice of friendship as it is embedded in wider social contexts and transformations.

During the first half of the twentieth century, many young intellectuals and reformers sympathized with the aspirations of working people and supported the struggles of the labor movement. Powers Hapgood (1899-1949) was one of the most colorful and recognizable symbols of this crucial historical relationship. A Harvard graduate and the scion of a famous Progressive-Era family, Hapgood chose to devote his life to the working class. His fascinating political career, marked by a staunch commitment to workers' rights and civil liberties, also included important roles in the Socialist Party and the Congress of Industrial Organizations (CIO). Robert Bussel's book is the first full-length biography of this prominent American Socialist, labor organizer, and social crusader.Hapgood participated in some of the most stirring historical events of his time-an epic coal miners' strike in Western Pennsylvania, an insurgent attempt to oust John L. Lewis as president of the United Mine Workers of America, the defense of Niccolo Sacco and Bartolomeo Vanzetti, and the electrifying victories of sit-down strikers in Akron, Ohio, and Flint, Michigan. In the latter stages of his career, he took unpopular stands on issues of racial justice, civil liberties, and union democracy that foreshadowed the fault lines along which the post-World War II labor movement would founder. Recording and reflecting upon these experiences in journals he kept throughout his life, Hapgood left behind an unus...

In mid-twentieth-century Latin America there was a strong consensus between Left and Right-Communists working under the directives of the Third International, nationalists within the military interested in fostering industrialization, and populists-about the need to break away from the colonial legacies of the past and to escape from the constraints of the international capitalist system. Even though they disagreed about the desired end state, Argentinians of all political stripes could agree on the need for economic independence and national sovereignty, which would be brought about through the efforts of a national bourgeoisie. James Brennan and Marcelo Rougier aim to provide a political history of this national bourgeoisie in this book. Deploying an eclectic methodology combining aspects of the "new institutionalism," the "new economic history," Marxist political economy, and deep research in numerous, rarely consulted archives into what they dub the "new business history," the authors offer the first thorough, empirically based history of the national bourgeoisie's peak association, the Confederación General Económica (CGE), and of the Argentine bourgeoisie's relationship with the state. They also investigate the relationship of the bourgeoisie to Perón and the Peronist movement by studying the history of one industrial sector, the metalworking industry, and two regional economies-one primarily industrial, Córdoba, and another mostly agraria...

It seems, at first glance, like an obvious step to take to improve industrial productivity: one should simply watch workers at work in order to learn how they actually do their jobs. But American engineer FREDERICK WINSLOW TAYLOR (1856-1915) broke new ground with this 1919 essay, in which he applied the rigors of scientific observation to such labor as shoveling and bricklayer in order to streamline their work... and bring a sense of logic and practicality to the management of that work. This highly influential book, must-reading for anyone seeking to understand modern management practices, puts lie to such misconceptions that making industrial processes more efficient increases unemployment and that shorter workdays decrease productivity. And it laid the foundations for the discipline of management to be studied, taught, and applied with methodical precision.

In the Economic and Philosophic Manuscripts of 1844 Marx explains how, under capitalism, people rely on labor to live. In the past people could rely on Nature itself for their natural needs; in modern society, if one wants to eat, one must work: it is only through money that one may survive. Thus, man becomes a slave to his wages. It is only through his work that he can find enough money to continue to live; but he doesn't simply live, he actually only survives, as a worker. Labor is only used to create more wealth, instead of achieving the fulfillment of human nature.Wilder Publications is a green publisher. All of our books are printed to order. Essay from the year 2012 in the subject Economics - Job market economics, , language: English, abstract: This short paper concentrates on employment and unemployment issues in Algeria. In a first part, the economic context is presented, from an historical perspective. It underlines that the country's economy relies excessively on hydrocarbons, which contributes to large economic distortions and has negative impacts on the creation of stable jobs in productive sectors. The second part analyses the labor supply and demand, and the intermediation role of ANEM, the National Employment Agency. Considering labor markets, there is a lack of reliable statistics, the scope and the quality of data on labor supply and demand must definitely be improved. In particular, there is a strong need for a better assessment of the importance of the informal sector, including so-called work at home. Available statistics underline the vulnerability of young generations and women. The role of ANEM is important; however, its performances could still be improved. The third part overviews the roles and impacts of development programs and key-institutions involved in job creation. Here also, improvements are needed. In addition, there is a need for better data and adequate methodology to assess the performance of these institutions.

Research Paper (postgraduate) from the year 2013 in the subject Business economics - Investment and Finance, grade: 1,3, Nürtingen University (Campus of Finance), course: Global Markets, language: English, abstract: Many observers, business people and in particular investors see labor cost developments in China as one of the main challenges for their Chinese subsidiaries. Especially in the East-coast region around Shanghai, labor cost has risen significantly within the last decade. For investors having subsidiaries in this region, the outlook on labor market might not look much brighter than it used to. Nevertheless, this development results from the impressive shift China has made in such a short period of time. China is now undergoing one of the most massive urbanizations in human history, which becomes nowhere more evident than in Shanghai. The population of this city is officially by now almost 24 million and is forecasted to rise to 30 million by 2020. Consequently, especially low-tech manufacturing plants in the Shanghai region suffer on the one hand from increasing labor cost, on the other hand from the fact that the government changed its focus to higher value-added industries with less pollution output in order to increase the living standard and quality of the population. In general, this trend means that Shanghai attracts high value-added industries such as Finance and Technology since the city offers well educated workforce as well as for sure an amazing flair att...

What are the origins of slavery and race-based prejudice in the mainland American colonies? How did the Atlantic slave trade operate to supply African labor to colonial America? How did African-American culture form and evolve? How did the American Revolution affect men and women of African descent? Previous editions of this work depicted African-Americans in the American mainland colonies as their contemporaries saw them: as persons from one of the four continents who interacted economically, socially, and politically in a vast, complex Atlantic world. It showed how the society that resulted in colonial America reflected the mix of Atlantic cultures and that a group of these people eventually used European ideas to support creation of a favorable situation for those largely of European descent, omitting Africans, who constituted their primary labor force. In this fourth edition of African Americans in the Colonial Era: From African Origins through the American Revolution, acclaimed scholar Donald R. Wright offers new interpretations to provide a clear understanding of the Atlantic slave trade and the nature of the early African-American experience. This revised edition incorporates the latest data, a fresh Atlantic perspective, and an updated bibliographical essay to thoroughly explore African-Americans’ African origins, their experience crossing the Atlantic, and their existence in colonial America in a broadened, more nuanced way.

"Life in these mills is a terrible life," the reformers say. "Men are ground down to scrap and are thrown out as wreckage." This may be so, but my life was spent in the mills and I failed to discover it. I went in a stripling and grew into manhood with muscled arms big as a bookkeeper's legs. The gases, they say, will destroy a man's lungs, but I worked all day in the mills and had wind enough left to toot a clarinet in the band. I lusted for labor, I worked and I liked it.-from "Scene in a Rolling Mill"In 1921, JAMES JOHN DAVIS was appointed Secretary of Labor by President Warren Harding, and would go on to also serve Presidents Coolidge and Hoover. Master's Thesis from the year 2015 in the subject Economics - Other, grade: 1,0, University of Paderborn, language: English, abstract: Technology as a Matter of Economic Interest A timeliness object of discussion since the first noteworthy appearance of economic literature has always been the construct of technological unemployment. The fear of people being put out of work by some machines really took off during the industrial revolution in the late 18th century owed to the invention of the steam machine, which eventually lead to the automation of the weaving craft. The economic interest in the relationship between new technology and its social impact is mostly based on the idea of increased productivity. If we consider a production function containing an arbitrary number of input factors, then given a certain amount of output, profits will decrease, if any of those inputs is becoming more expensive. In the course of time before human and property rights were installed, this have been most often the factors land and labor. Labor insofar, as it depended massively on the ability of keeping people healthy and well-nourished and also on the expected life span which was certainly lower, centuries ago. The United Kingdom was affected first and severest by the invention of the steam-engine. Ulrike Herrmann (2013) explains the necessity of this invention on the scarcity of labor due to the wars and famines plaguing the Europe of that era. This disruptive general purpose technolog...

She helped coordinate major strikes and cofounded the Industrial Workers of the World.Jones worked as a teacher and dressmaker, but after her husband and four children all died of yellow fever in 1867 and her dress shop was destroyed in the Great Chicago Fire of 1871, she began working as an organizer for the Knights of Labor and the United Mine Workers union. From 1897, at about 60 years of age, she was known as Mother Jones. In 1902, she was called "the most dangerous woman in America" for her success in organizing mine workers and their families against the mine owners. In 1903, to protest the lax enforcement of the child labor laws in the Pennsylvania mines and silk mills, she organized a children's march from Philadelphia to the home of President Theodore Roosevelt in New York.…During the Paint Creek–Cabin Creek strike of 1912 in West Virginia, Mary Jones arrived in June 1912, speaking and organizing despite a shooting war between United Mine Workers members and the private army of the mine owners. Mortensen and C.Pissarides,1994; Pissarides, 2000) has been recently challanged by many economists. The Mortensen-Pissarides (1994) model in general says that it takes time to match jobs and workers, which causes unemployment as an outcome of market frictions. The volatility of unemployment fluctuations in the model is not corresponding to the baseline calibration that R. Shimer (2005) has found for the US data. Many authors modified the model in order to solve this lack of volatility.First I introduce the Mortensen-Pissarides model to refer in the second part to the models parameters. Next, I present solutions found by Hall (2005) who solves the model via rigid wage setting and Hagedorn and Manovskii(2005) who provide a small surplus calibration to overcome the lack in volatility of the labor market variables. According to the so called "Shimer Puzzle" I will present shortly the findings of Gartner, Merkl and Rothe (2009), who calibrate the key labor market variables over the business cycle for the West-German labor market. Further I introduce Morensen and Nagypál (2007) publications on an amneded version of the model and a model with endogenous separations.

Recent years have seen a huge growth in European cross-border mergers and acquisitions (M&A), and considerable attention has been given to how such deals arise and are completed. A U.S. investor must understand the basic difference in the principle of individual labor law in the U.S. and how it compares with the laws of the target country in an M&A. In the U.S., under the employment at-will doctrine, the U.S. private sector employers can dismiss their non-unionized employees at any time for any reason or even no reason at all. In most European Union (EU) countries and Germany and Italy specifically, employees are presumed to have a basic right to keep their jobs indefinitely. One of the greatest labor cost disparity with the U.S. is not wages. It is the amount of paid time-off and other benefits. Employers in Germany and Italy will find it difficult to discharge employees without incurring substantial liability. For high-level, long-term employees, these severance payments can run into six or even seven figures.

In few Asian countries is organized labor so important an economic and political factor as in contemporary Indonesia, and in few countries of the world has it been so politicized. Yet, thus far very little serious research and writing has been concerned with the Indonesian trade unions. Consequently the Cornell Modern Indonesia Project is pleased to publish this pioneering study by Iskandar Tedjasukmana. It would be difficult to find anyone better qualified to undertake it, for he served as Minister of Labor in three different Indonesian cabinets: the Sukiman Cabinet (April 27, 1951 - April 2, 1952); the Wilopo Cabinet (April 3, 1952 - July 31, 1953); and the Burhanudin Harahap Cabinet (August 12, 1955 - March 27, 1956). In addition, he was from 1951 to 1956 Chairman of the Political Bureau of the Labor Party. From 1946 to 1956, except while Cabinet Minister, he was a member of the Indonesian Parliament, serving from March, 1947, to August, 1949, as Vice-Chairman of its Working Committee. - George McT. Kahin, October 31, 1958

Discussion of the current Information Revolution tends to focus on technological developments in information and communication and overlooks both the human labor involved in the development, maintenance and daily use of information and communication technologies (ICTs), and the consequences of implementing these ICTs. This volume corrects this imbalance by exploring the role, position and divisions of information and communication labor through periods of revolutionary technological change.

Document from the year 2013 in the subject Business economics - General, grade: A, Atlantic International University, course: Business Administration, language: English, abstract: To make production effectively, costs like labor, overhead and material costs all together must be incurred. In fact in the production process every cost plays it role to make the production effective. Take an example of labor cost no production can take place without labor cost, however much it's the use of machines but the devices too are controlled by labor or humans. Cost reveals financial evaluation or assessments of resources prolonged to accomplish the goal like producing conducive service. In other words cost is the driver of all the income and expenditure statements. Costs appear everywhere be it in financial accounting, management accounting and in cost accounting governed by its principles. Therefore it should be noted that cost accounting enables the company and the managers to have information about the period financial reports. But this doesn't mean that the released reports are the generally accepted ones by the Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
