Physical activity appears to be one of the behaviours of patients with anorexia nervosa that may worsen over time and contributes to maintaining the dieting disorder. Seasonal variation in physical activity has been demonstrated. The current thesis therefore addresses three main questions: a) do Australian and German female students perceive seasonal variation in physical activity in a similar manner b) does physical activity vary across the seasons in female patients with anorexia nervosa compared to healthy female controls and c) what assessment and treatment strategies are implemented by clinical specialists? In summary, seasonal variation in physical activity was reported by Australian and German students. Further, it was demonstrated that time spent in some components of physical activity (moderate intensity activities and exercise) varied across the seasons in the patient-group. Comprehensive assessment tools and published exercise programmes were rarely used by the clinical specialists, indicating the need to extend treatment guidelines to include physical activity and its seasonal variation.

Obesity is a chronic disease that is caused by several factors such as diet, genetics, physical inactivity, and poor dietary habits. This research focused on how income affects obesity among African Americans (AA). The data used in the study was obtained from AfricanAmerican participants living in Durham, North Carolina (NC). Studies have shown low income African Americans are disproportionately affected by chronic diseases, such as obesity, diabetes, hypertension, and high cholesterol, due to poor eating habits or diets. Some studies have also reported higher rates of obesity amongst high income earners. The purpose of this research is to address the inconsistency, as well as fill the gap in the literature on this topic.Additionally, the study is focused on other key factors that contribute to low family income and how these factors contribute to obesity among AA, specifically in Durham, NC. A qualitative approach was used to interview and glean the lived experiences of 30 participants.The findings from the study showed family income contributes to obesity. The study contributes to social change by recommending that policy makers advocate for an increase in national minimum wage, encourage educational approaches to prevent obesity, promote good eating habits, and promote adequate physical activity amongst AA.

Asthma is a chronic illness involving the respiratory system in which the airway constricts, becomes inflamed, and is lined with excessive amounts of mucous, often in response to one or more trigger. It is becoming increasingly evident that the cause of the changes in asthma are multifactorial, including contribution from allergen exposure, hygiene and lifestyle changes mainly of diet and physical activity and their product (obesity). We aim to study the clinical and functional changes in asthmatic children after a schedualized training program (walking, swimming, cycling, running and gymnastic) and to evaluate the efficacy of physical activity on both asthma symptoms and pulmonary functions, aiming to modify the asthmatic children's life style. We found clear evidence that Pulmonary Rehabilitation programs that include individually prescribed but generic physical exercise training are capable of improving functional exercise capacity and health-related quality of life and are cost effective, so it should be applied on a larger scale among asthmatic children hospitals, various allergy clinics and even at school if possible, to improve their health outcome and quality of life.

Obesity results from a prolonged imbalance between energy intake and energy expenditure, as depending on basal metabolic rate, heat production, thermogenic effects of the diet & physical activity. Diet-induced obesity in rodents can be achieved by different regimens & approaches. Diets providing a high fat intake have been established as a “gold standard” to generate obese rodent models and have proven to initiate pathologies similar to those in humans. However, this dietary treatment is far from being standardized and its relevance has been criticized. Hence, varieties of high fat diet regimens have been introduced by providing a choice of several palatable food items of variable composition. Further male rats have been considered in developing all types of obesity models and no rationale has been provided as of this discrimination and negligence of using female rats. Another pitfall in the obesity model development is that of the choice of the strain of the rats used for the study. The basis on which strain is being chosen still remains controversial. This present study aimed at comparing & validating different diet induced obesity models utilizing different strains and gender.

With a method of observing pedestrian activity, and hypothesizing the intensity of people as the parameter of such vibrancy, this study adopted several key statistical methods to come up with some interesting findings. It showed that certain components of mixed land use patterns and streetscapes are significant to generate and sustain pedestrian vibrancy.

Tabernaemontana divaricata (Fam- Apocynaceae) is traditionally used for various treatments and also in the cases of arteriosclerosis and circulatory irregularities. Hence the present investigation was designed to evaluate the potential effect of methanol extract of aerial parts of Tabernaemontana divaricata (METD) on obesity and hyperlipidiemia on Atherogenic diet induced obese rats. In this study, METD at the doses of 100mg/kg and 200mg/kg were administered along with Atherogenic diet for a period of 42 days. Parameters such as body weight, body temperature, serum lipid profiles, SGOT and SGPT were evaluated. METD at the dose of 200mg/kg significantly (p<0.001) corrected the altered parameters, similar to that of standard drug sibutramine (2mg/kg). From the observations of the study performed, it could be predicted that Tabernaemontana divaricata exerted significant anti-obese and anti-hyperlipidemic effects in rats fed on Atherogenic diet. Further investigation needs to figure out the therapeutic potential and exact mechanism of T.divaricata in the treatment of obesity.

The data about the major causes of hypertension of approximately one hundred patients of hypertension was collected by interviewing them at Sughra Shafih Medical Complex, Narowal. The data had been analysed to determine the relative occurrence and incidence of hypertension and effects of various causes. The analysis shows that hypertensive patients were more prevalent (60%, n=60/100), and non hypertensive patients were less prevalent (40%, n=40/100). The prevalence of hypertension was more in females (64.00%) as compared to males (34.00%). The major risk factors of hypertension were diabetes, obesity and over weight, tension, smoking. Some females were hypertensive during pregnancy. High cholesterol level also contributes to hypertension. In our sample out of hypertensive patients 42% were diabetic, 25% were obese, 10% were smokers, 16.6% were hypertensive because to tension and 7% females were hypertensive during pregnancy. Known as “the silent killer”, it may exist for prolonged periods in the individual without symptoms and may manifest only after causing serious irreversible pathology and complications.

In other words, the fatty liver may progress to nonalcoholic steatohepatitis, cirrhosis, and hepatocellular carcinoma. The study of the magnitude of the effects of liver disorders mediated by nutritional imbalance is fundamental in the attempt to establish preventive and therapeutic strategies.
