Intensifying agricultural practices, lead to high input of pesticides and spread of their residue contamination over catchments raising concern over the health hazard posed by the presence of pesticide residues in the environment. This study aim at providing a basis for monitoring pesticides residue contamination of the water bodies in Lake Naivasha catchment through; identifying the pesticides applied in the catchment, the status of selected pesticides and their potential effect to human health and life of aquatic organisms. The study found that 59%of the pesticides applied within the L. Naivasha catchment are moderately to extremely hazardous, while more than 40% of the pesticides are moderately to highly persistence in the environment. 22% of the applied pesticides were of international concern because of their toxicity (moderately to extremely hazardous) and persistence (highly persistence). The L. Naivasha catchment was found to be contaminated by 4,4-DDT, 2,4-DDE, 4,4-DDD, γ-HCH, α-HCH and Aldrin, with higher concentrations in the sediment than the water phase.

Although, pesticides are very useful for saving human life from many diseases and protecting food and other economically important food crops from pest damage, some pesticides are not readily biodegradable, tend to persist for a long period in the environment and move to other parts of the environment. The detrimental effects of these chemicals can be seen on organisms other than the target pests. These toxic substances exist in a variety of chemical and biological forms including organochlorines, organophosphates, carbonates, etc. Pollution of aquatic systems due to these pesticides is widespread and sometimes the pollution is on such a large scale that no fish can survive in the polluted waters. These pesticides interfere in biological and physiological processes of aquatic organisms such as fishes. Present work was hence undertaken to study the effects of five commonly used pesticides, on the vulnerable stage in the life of fish i.e. spawn of common carp as an indicator species to find out their lethal limits.

Doctoral Thesis / Dissertation from the year 2016 in the subject Medicine - Neoplasms, Oncology, , language: Modern Greek, abstract: The aim of this study is to evaluate the effectiveness of Lu-177-DOTATATE infusions after selective catheterization of the hepatic artery in inoperable metastasised liver, sst2 receptor-positive neuroendocrine tumours due to the effect of β-emission, minimising in parallel the toxicity of non-target tissue.The average dose per session administered monthly to each patient (14 cases in total) was 6.3±2.3 GBq. Repetitions did not exceed 6-fold. Response assessment was classified according to the Response Evaluating Criteria in Solid Tumours. CT/ MRI scans were performed as baseline before, during and after the end of treatment, and monthly ultrasound images for follow-up measurements. Toxicity (World Health Organization criteria) was measured using blood and urine tests of renal, hepatic and bone marrow function.Νone patient was achieved complete response[CR], partial response[PR] was shown in 9/14 (65%), and disease stabilization[SD] in 2/14 (14%) patients; three patients (21.0%) did not respond [PD]. Grade 1 erythro-, leuko- and thrombo-cytopenia occurred in 8 cases, grade 2-3 in 4 cases and blood transfusion (grade 4) in 2.In unresectable metastatic liver lesions positive for somatostatin receptors repeated, trans-hepatic high doses of Lu-177-DOTA-TATE show an effective therapeutic outcome. No nephro- or liver-toxicity has so far been observed. ...

Residue analysis of chlorpyrifos (an organophosphate pesticide) was investigated in different water samples. Analysis was carried out in collaboration with pesticide residue laboratory Kala Shah Kaku due to the availability of latest chromatographic techniques. Chlorpyrifos was analyzed in different samples of water collected from different sites of Lahore. Sample preparation was done by using Solid Phase Extraction (SPE) technique. Analysis was carried out using High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC). Acetonitrile, methanol solvents were used as mobile phase to achieve the best separation. Chlorpyrifos was detected in 0.161 mg/L-1.912mg/L concentration ranges. Maximum residue limit of chlorpyrifos in drinking water established by either World Health Organization (WHO) or European Union (EU) is 0.040mg/L. The highest concentration of chlorpyrifos residue was 1.912mg/L in water sample collected from Kala Shah Kaku. Study of residue analysis of chlorpyrifos in water has the significant role to solve the environmental problems related to pesticides.

The current study was undertaken to investigate time-dependent toxic effect of sub-lethal dose of orally administered Aluminium Chloride in male rabbits (oryctolagus cuniculus) on the histology of renal tisues. Animals were divided into control and treated groups. Animals of treated group received Aluminium Chloride at the dose rate of 25 mg/kg disolved in 0.9% saline solution after every 48 hours, for 15 and 30 days respectively while animals of control group were given 0.9% saline solution only. Animals were dissected with the interval of 15 days. Renal tissues were processed and stained by Hematoxylin and Eosin for Histological studies. Histological changes induced in the renal tissues of treated animals were observed. The basic purpose of this research was to administer the toxicity of Aluminium Cholride in Kidney of rabbits.
