Trichomoniasis is a common, sexually transmitted infection caused by the flagellated protozoan parasite Trichomonas vaginalis. Symptoms include vaginitis and urethritis. Infections have been associated with pre-term deliveries, low birth weight, increased infant mortality as well as predisposing to HIV/AIDS and cervical cancer. To establish and determine the prevalence of T. vaginalis in adult rural females using Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR)-ELISA technique and relate this to a few selected socio-economic factors that may influence prevalence, a peep through this very important parasites therefore is quite timely.

Socio-economic inequality is deeply rooted in Zimbabwe due to a number of factors. One of the main factors is the exclusion of socio-economic rights as justiciable under the now repealed Lancaster House Constitution (LHC). A plethora of excessive bureaucratic actions in a number of instances left many people stranded without the recourse to the law, particularly without protection by the Constitution. To correct this historic anomaly, the 2013 Constitution was enacted. The 2013 Constitution protects both civil and political rights and socio-economic rights in the same way as justiciable rights. This provides the highest degree of interdependence and interrelatedness of all rights in the domestic legal order. In order to ensure that socio-economic rights are effectively protected and enforced, this study identifies and discusses the framework for protecting socio-economic rights under the 2013 Constitution. Firstly, the specific rights protected under the Constitution and the obligations imposed by these rights are presented. Secondly, the role of the courts in the protection of socio-economic rights is discussed. Further, some of the major conceptual and practical challenges that are likely to arise in the adjudication of socio-economic rights are identified. In this regard, the study attempts to present solutions meant to overcome the conceptual and practical challenges that are faced in the enforcement of socio-economic rights. Furthermore, this study argues that strictly ad...

The study focuses on the household unit and examines the positions of women with and without migration experience in their families. Research findings suggest that the effect of migration on the empowerment of women in three selected dimensions (socio-cultural, economic and domestic decision making) depends crucially on the personal ability of each individual woman to consider the migration experience in light of the complex interface of socio-economic factors in both home and host countries.

Women frequently encounter greater limitations and fewer opportunities than men, especially in regard to income-generating activities. They face social and economic constraints that perpetuate poverty and spans generations. However, significant opportunities exist in the informal, small-scale enterprise sector for which women should take advantage. Community groups are popular institutions in Kenya's rural areas. The groups help provide services that the government, has failed to deliver. Also the emergence of microfinance institutions to offer lending funds has been of great impact. This study sought to investigate the factors affecting women microfinance loan repayment. The findings of the study may be useful to policy makers in government, private sector, Non-Governmental and Faith Based Organisations.

It specifically describes and analyses the socio-economic characteristics (of rural women and men), which influence REP in the region. It also analyses the institutional, ecological and cultural variables promoting employment generation; estimates/determines crucial factors, which might influence REP; and identifies viable avenues for rapid REP. Over all, five major factors were extracted in the process of variable reduction in the analysis of data. These are the socio-economic attributes of the respondent; institutional influence on his/her activities; the ecology of the respondent's immediate environment; his/her financial and knowledge acquisition; and the physical and social capitals at his/her disposal for appropriation in the process of establishing a cottage industry for production and or service purpose(s). In this research, due to the lack of capital markets in some of the Arab countries we have been focusing on foreign direct investment as one of types of foreign investment. Foreign investment comprises foreign direct investment (FDI), which inflows have provided the strong impetus on economic development across countries. FDI serves as an important source of supply of funds for domestic investments, promoting capital formation in the host country. Nowadays, more attention is paid to the issues of foreign direct investments at both national and international levels. According to World Investments reports, many developing countries, including the Arab countries, have attracted only small amounts of FDI inflows despite their efforts towards the economic openness. This book is a collection of descriptive and analytical articles. These, which were recently written, deal with socio-political developments at the local, regional and global levels. It is the view of the author that forward or backward change is caused by seen and unseen dynamic socio-political, cultural, psychological and ideological factors, that full-freedom is fiction, that politics is a major driving force in society, and that, to improve human relations, there is a need for better communication between cultures. Dynamics of change implies that all factors are relevant in the explanation of events and developments. The author maintains that reality is wider than explanation and that, in order to help in the achievement of peaceful existence, there is a need to narrow socio-economic gaps nationally and internationally. The author maintains that, in order for peoples to know their miserable reality, they need to deal with reality frankly, honestly and directly. It is very difficult to achieve progress and awakening without democratization and the establishment justice and civil society.

This study aimed at investigating the factors influencing choice of degree courses among female students at the University of Nairobi in the 2010/2011 cohort. Factors affecting choice of degree courses has been of concern especially as it directly impacts on the Government policy on Gender(GoK ,2005) that requires 30% of all jobs be held by women across all careers. A knowledge gap exists on the reasons for undergraduate female students choices of various degrees courses at university level. Reasons influencing the career choices among women students has been postulated to include self-efficacy, socio-economic factors, gender factors and lack of adequate information or poor career guidance. The moderating and intervening variables such as university admission criteria, performance at the National examinations, family background and , teachers and peer influence, school facilities, national education policies have been found in this study as possible contributing factors to the choice of degree courses and careers among female students in Universities in Kenya.

In a desperate quest for development, many states are granting extremely generous and untargeted tax incentives to Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) without any due consideration of the inefficacy or negative spillover effects of such incentives. This is especially true for African countries which are under continuous internal and external political pressure because of their fragile economies and extremely high unemployment rate. Under such conditions therefore the absence of empirical evidence for the economic efficacy of tax incentives does little to quell the political enthusiasm. Then what is the impact of this negligent, if not deliberate, act of African countries on the socio-economic rights of their population? Are tax incentive schemes in compliance with the human rights, particularly socio-economic rights obligations of African countries? How do they affect the socio-economic rights of African people and how can these acts of governments be challenged using the relevant human rights instruments ratified by African countries? are some of the questions that this research tries to seek answer to.

One of the most basic problems of the present century in the Third World Countries is rural poverty. The rural labour households form the hard core of rural poor and the most of the socially backward classes, such as, scheduled castes and scheduled tribes fall in this category. Most of the population is depending upon agriculture that is contributing about one-fourth of the National Income in the country. The most important feature of them are that they have very little or low productive assets and the major part of their income is derived from casual or irregular employment available in villages in Andhra pradesh. The dimensions of poverty among the rural labour households are reflected by the extent of indebtedness among the households and low consumption levels. The basis of findings of the study, it would be useful to make some suggestions that would help to improve the socio-economic conditions of agricultural labourers. The improvement in the socio-economic conditions of the agricultural labour, the large segment of work force would promote economic welfare in general and ultimate lead the Indian economy on the path of growth with stability.

Both factors are blended into the socio-economic developments of the country which are addressed in this paper. The focus here lies on the pre-colonial and colonial times. The names Burma and Myanmar are used equivalent and without political implications. To approximate an assessment of those two phases, it is necessary start with a short introduction to the crucial geographic and historical factors affecting the social-economic developments until 1948, the year of Myanmar's independence. The definition of the term socio-economic developments is allocated here as well. Subsequently a short overview on the most important periods of Myanmar's history is added. The following detailed description of history and socio-economic conditions and developments of three distinct periods, the Pyu city states, the Konbaung Dynasty and the British rule, enables a general view on the socio-economic developments of the time before the state's independence in 1948.
