It explains how to build the fuzzy inference system in order to score the documents in such a way that most relevant documents will get the higher score against the user's information need. Relevant documents are ranked and then fetched on the basis on these scores. This book provides an overview of fuzzy logic and explains the core concepts underlying fuzzy logic. It also explains the design and implementation strategy of neuro fuzzy inference system for information retrieval by using Adaptive Neuro Fuzzy Inference System (ANFIS) toolbox available in MATLAB. Results and Evaluation are also given at the end for neuro fuzzy inference system and its comparison with the existing techniques for information retrieval.

This book addresses the field of geographic information extraction and retrieval from textual documents. Geographic information retrieval is a rapidly emerging subject, a trend fostered by the growing power of the Internet and the emerging possibilities of data dissemination. After positioning his work in this field in Chapter 1, the author makes proposals in the following two chapters. Chapter 2 focuses on spatial and temporal information indexing and retrieval in corpora of textual documents. Propositions for both spatial and temporal information retrieval (IR) are made. Chapter 3 tackles the use of generalized spatial and temporal indexes, which are produced from there in the framework of multi-criteria IR. Geographic IR (GIR) is discussed at length, since this IR combines the criteria of spatial, temporal and thematic research. The author provides a rich bibliographical study of the current approaches focused on the modeling and retrieval of spatial and temporal information in textual documents, and similarity measures developed thus far in the literature. The book concludes with a broad perspective of the remaining scientific challenges. For fast fluctuating radio bursts, like Jovian S-bursts these receivers suffer from their low spectral resolution. Further on, phasing information is generally not contained in common spectral analysis. The development of the so-called waveform receiver (WFR) is a successful step further being able to get informations on S-burst substructures. By capturing the waveform rather than the derivated dynamic spectrum, post processing methods allow various methods of detailed signal substructure analysis. Especially the method of wavelet transformation turns out to be very effective, when dealing with intrinsic signal information. This master thesis is a deep in detail description of the waveform receiving system. It starts with an overview chapter, describing the kind of scientific work possible with this system. Außerdem können hardwarebedingte Signalverzerrungen häufig durch softwareseitige Lösungen eliminiert werden, was sich wiederum stark auf die Produktionskosten für die Hardware auswirkt. Until now, however, this language did not attract the same interest as the Unified Modeling Language (UML), because of the lack of adequate debugging facilities which are necessary regarding the following three problem areas: First, declarative languages like QVT Relations (QVT-R) hides the operational semantics of transformations. Only the information provided by the interpreter, as well as the tendered inputs and returned outputs are available for tracking the progress of transformations. Furthermore, the ordering of transformation application is hidden by the MT engines providing only a black-boxes view to the users. This can lead to the problem of impedance mismatches between design and runtime. These characteristics of QVT-R are assets for developing, but are handicaps for debugging. Noise reduction is an important step for development of any sophisticated algorithms in computer vision and image processing. A tradeoff between the removed noise and the blur in the image always exists. The capability of the wavelets to give detail spatial-frequency information is the main reason for the use of wavelets. This property promises a possibility for better discrimination between the noise and the real data. Successful exploitation of the wavelet transform might reduce the blurring effect or even overcome it completely. Object tracking is a problem of estimating the positions and other relevant information of moving objects in the sequences of image video. The main difficulties in reliable tracking of moving objects include: rapid appearance changes caused by image noise and interaction between multiple objects. In a long sequence of image video, if the dynamics of the moving object is known, prediction can be made about the positions of the object in a particular frame. This information can be combined with the actual image observation to achieve more robust results. We have explored a possibility to use wavelet transform for object tracking.

SMS technology was not designed to transmit secure data; it does not provide built-in support for any security feature (e.g., authentication and confidentiality) between SMS communicators, in this book, a centralized secure messaging system (CSMS) is introduced. It allows the system clients to exchange highly secured messages exclusively via trusted third party (i.e. server). The main server contains a central database that holds clients' information. Depending on this information the server does the required message processing and forwards it to its final destination. The communication of the proposed CSMS is based on GPRS in case of internet availability. Also, beside GPRS the system is fully functional depending on Global System for Mobile communications (GSM). The transmitted encrypted SMS passes through some coding stages (i.e., convolution and shuffling) to meet the diffusion and confusion requirement, then it is further encrypted using Rivest Cipher (RC4) with dynamic peer to peer (P2P) encryption key. The users can send SMS using a dedicated Android based application, also, they can send it using an established HTTP server via a dedicated website.

The advent of increasingly large consumer collections of audio (e.g., iTunes), imagery (e.g., Flickr), and video (e.g., YouTube) is driving a need not only for multimedia retrieval but also information extraction from and across media. Furthermore, industrial and government collections fuel requirements for stock media access, media preservation, broadcast news retrieval, identity management, and video surveillance. While significant advances have been made in language processing for information extraction from unstructured multilingual text and extraction of objects from imagery and video, these advances have been explored in largely independent research communities who have addressed extracting information from single media (e.g., text, imagery, audio). And yet users need to search for concepts across individual media, author multimedia artifacts, and perform multimedia analysis in many domains. This collection is intended to serve several purposes, including reporting the current state of the art, stimulating novel research, and encouraging cross-fertilization of distinct research disciplines. The collection and integration of a common base of intellectual material will provide an invaluable service from which to teach a future generation of cross disciplinary media scientists and engineers.

In the current era of health care reform, our predominantly clinician-centered approaches stand in the way of real system transformation. What could happen if clinicians instead incorporated their patient's story into their appraisal and treatment planning? This document examines such an approach. In order to look more closely at how this could be accomplished in a contemporary primary care clinic, a small test of change was undertaken. Nurses were trained in patient-centered narrative interviewing in order to gather information typically difficult to obtain using a standard medical interviewing format. These nurses were next placed in a variety of healthcare sites. Primary care clinicians (PCCs) in these sites selected patients each clinician felt was frustrating or difficult. The clinician arranged for the nurse to interview these patients. After the interview, the nurse and the PCC discussed the new information provided. The PCC then determined if the information provided was valuable, whether it actually changed their clinical decision-making regarding that patient's diagnosis and treatment, and if their level of frustration with the patient improved.

Master's Thesis from the year 2004 in the subject Engineering - General, Basics, University of Pisa, language: English, abstract: The detection of the QRS complex is very important because it is related to different heart dysfunctions. The wavelet transformation is an useful tool to characterize non-stationary signals such as the QRS complex because it gives good estimation of time and frequency localization. Starting from the mathematical expression of the Gaussian function, chosen as mother wavelet, after the Laplace Transform, the Padè Approximation will be used to arrive at a rational form of the function suitable for a filter implementation. It will be shown that a switched-capacitor (SC) realization is preferable instead of a direct implementation of the filter in Continuous Time in order to avoid high-value resistor elements. The optimization of the sensitivity, noise and dynamic range of the filter will be carried out following a State-Space methodology. The resulting circuit is a 7th order complementary metal-oxide semiconductor (CMOS) SC filter.

The Covenant University Health Center was used as a test-bed for the application. This system is a contribution towards attaining the Millennium Development Goal on Health Care.
