Forest represents an important resource base for economic development. If managed wisely, forest had the capacity to provide a perpetual stream of income and subsistence products, while supporting other economic activities through its ecological services and functions. Despite the importance of forest in sustaining livelihood and poverty smoothening in rural communities, it is highly depleted. Besides, rehabilitation initiatives in Ethiopia to date are rarely participatory. Even, community forests are poorly conserved and highly degraded. Therefore, to enhance participatory rehabilitation initiatives for sustainable management, this study examined households’ willingness to pay for rehabilitation of degraded forest resources in a hypothetical market. The study was conducted in Sekella woreda of the Amhara region, northwestern Ethiopia. A total of 120 households had been surveyed in the study area in November and December 2011. During the survey, Contingent Valuation Method with double bounded dichotomous choice with follow up question format was applied to elicit willingness to pay of rehabilitation of degraded forest resources.

Bachelor Thesis from the year 2012 in the subject Business economics - Marketing, Corporate Communication, CRM, Market Research, Social Media, grade: 1,7, Munich University of Applied Sciences (Fakultät für Betriebswirtschaft), language: English, abstract: The aim of the present thesis is to analyze consumers' willingness to pay for Fair Trade products. Specifically, the thesis asks whether (a) people are willing to pay a premium for Fair Trade products, (b) how much extra they are willing to pay, and (c) which factors influence the consumers' willingness to pay. To answer these questions, findings of the most recent quantitative research on Fair Trade are studied. A total of 24 separate empirical papers on Fair Trade and willingness to pay are identified and reviewed. The main results are: (1) about 85% participants are willing to pay a price-premium for Fair Trade products; (2) the price-premium people are willing to pay range from 3% to 80%, with the median of 17%; (3) these values are somewhat lower in studies with more controlled research (i.e., experiments) - the prevalence is 70% and the price-premium 10%; (4) the higher price of Fair Trade products has an inconsistent impact on consumers' willingness to pay - for some it remains a significant barrier to the purchase, for others a sign of product credibility; (5) the level of income is insignificant for FT consumption; (6) demographic variables are rather useless for predicting Fair Trade consumption; (7) e...

Increasing level of generation of municipal solid waste have long posed serious threats to local environmental quality and human health.Municipal solid waste management is the responsibility of local governments consuming a greater percentage of their budgets in developing countries. However budget constraints have made Metropolitan,Municipal and District Assemblies unable to meet the cost in managing the ever increasing volumes of waste.Improvements in solid waste management is required; however to obtain such improvements, a higher payment is also anticipated. In line with this, it is very important to explore the possibility of cost sharing by households and for this we need to explore their willingness to pay for such services. This book therefore explores this area of interest

Master's Thesis from the year 2016 in the subject Orientalism / Sinology - Chinese / China, grade: 2,0, , language: English, abstract: China's economic development has not only led to enormous growth figures, but also to a severe degradation of the environment. Mass-consumption of fossil fuels like oil and coal in China contributed to reaching the level of the largest greenhouse gas emitter worldwide. For the Chinese government to react, it is crucial to take the electricity purchase decisions of households into account to successfully implement energy policies. Hereby, a Chinese social survey shall help to show the effects of economic and environmental factors on the consumers' willingness to pay for the adoption of green electricity: the results of both a Linear Probability Model and a Probit model indicate that environmental factors do not play a crucial role when it comes to the consumers' willingness to pay for higher prices/taxes in order to protect the environment - whereas the economic factor regarding the influence of price levels has a slightly more effective impact. Nonetheless, education and adequate information provision about the merits of green electricity seem to be a prerequisite in order to promote the purchase of renewable electricity.

Soil erosion has been one of the major problems undermining agricultural production in Ethiopia. Consequently, efforts are being made by the government to tackle the adverse effect of soil erosion via Food-for-Work and Cash-for-Work programs. However, the existing literature shows that the achievements of such programs are far from the expectations. Does such an experience mean that there is no hope for soil conservation practices in Ethiopia? Absolutely it is doubtful, the problem could have been rather, the campaigns that have been undertaken in Ethiopia for soil conservation practices have failed to consider local peoples' willingness to pay for such projects from the very initiation of conservation measures. This motivates that, adequate understanding of the socio economic circumstances is required to determine the household's soil conservation demand behavior and the factors that determine their willingness to pay for it. Hence, this book explores the value that the rural households have attached to soil conservation measure using the non marketed valuation technique called Contingent valuation method.

This study addresses the question of the impact of packaging to demand a price premium leveraging the example of retailer brand premium products in the food segment in Germany. Product tiering is a pricing structure that is commonly used by producers, in which consumers are segmented by willingness to pay for specific (added) product benefits. This is a way of maximizing utility for both consumers and producers, and is commonly already leveraged by producers of branded products, but lately also by retailer brands, especially to enable growth outside the value tier. This research uses a survey across grocery purchase decision makers in Germany to identify the relationship of packaging and willingness to pay across a sample of retailer brand Tier 1, Tier 2 and Tier 3 products as well as a branded product in four different grocery categories. The intent is to answer whether i) packaging currently justifies the premium price of retailer brand tier 1 products compared to other product tiers, ii) packaging justifies the tier 1 retailer brand price premium, and iii) demographics influence the willingness to pay a premium price.

For sustainable management of forest vegetation in the area, geology, soil and biota are important factors. Scientific investigation may be helpful in improving and regenerating degraded hills by protection of slopes through raising vegetation suited to parent material and soil. Soils are considered to be our basic treasure. Man is dependent on soil and productive soil depends on man. Each of the different kinds of soils requires special management practice which changes from season to season. The knowledge of mineralogical behavior of soils at good natural sites and at degraded sites opens at possibilities of optimal management inputs to augment production of the biomass from good site as well as from degraded site after suitable amelioration. In the present intensified programme of raising large scale plantation, especially of fast growing species, the fertility potential depends largely on the mineralogical composition of the soil. The underlying parent material plays a vital role in determining the success or other-wise of the plantations especially over a number of rotations in a given year. This book provides in-depth knowledge to the managers, foresters and land users to have a thorough knowledge about the content and nature of minerals present in the soil in diagnosing the fertility status and other soil-plant-parent material relationship in forestry.

Finding an incentive compatible method to assess account values can be seen as the bedrock of social media research across all platforms and is of crucial importance for researches and practitioners alike. This study presents a new method of applying the willingness to accept (instead of the commonly applied willingness to pay for establishing account values on Instagram), by modifying a randomised Vickrey Auction. Primary research among 1024 participants and 409 Instagram users measured the willingness to accept, in relation to demographic variables, account and interaction metrics. The average account was valued at 100 € median, correlating significantly with participants' income and prevalently with the number of followers. Other significant correlations were found in the duration since sign up, number of posts, average number of likes and comments as well as the decision to establish a micro blogging business. Findings are discussed by regarding the limitations and implications for Instagram's business model in terms of a Freemium model, insurances companies offering privacy enhancing features and ad campaign pricing when users engage in brand collaborations.

Natural resources such as water and environmental attributes are valuable assets to humans. Despite the various benefits derived from these resources obtaining the appropriate price for environmental resources is a bit difficult due to the absence of market. As a result most of the time macro-economic planners fail to recognize the total value of these resources. Thus failure of the market system to allocate a price for environmental resources correctly creates the need for economic measures of values to guide policy making. This book thus analyses the determinants of households' willingness to pay for irrigation water supply by using contingent valuation and choice experiment methods. Multinomial logit, Probit and random parameter logit models were used to analyze the factors influencing households' willingness to pay and to estimate measures of welfare change for farm households. The practical analysis on environmental resource valuation would be handy to professionals in environmental and natural resources economics fields or anyone else interested in pricing of environmental resources.

To this end, the role of consumers' perception of the product quality and the manufacturer conscientiousness has been taken into consideration. With reference to existing literature on product certification as well as concepts originating from human information processing theory and advertising research this study suspected that consumer attitudes and purchase intentions first increase up to a maximum point before decreasing again as the number of certification seals being employed simultaneously rises. Interprofessional Rehabilitation: a Person-Centred Approach is a concise and readable introduction to the principles and practice of a person-centred interprofessional approach to rehabilitation, based upon a firm scientific evidence base. Written by a multi-contributor team of specialists in physiotherapy, occupational therapy, nursing, psychology and rehabilitation medicine, this text draws together common themes that cut across the different professional groups and the spectrum of health conditions requiring rehabilitation, and sets out a model of practice that is tailored to the specific needs of the client. Showing interprofessionalism at work in a range of clinical contexts, the book argues that effective rehabilitation is best conducted by well-integrated teams of specialists working in an interdisciplinary way, with the client or patient actively involved in all stages of the process. This book will be essential reading for students preparing for practice in an increasingly interprofessional environment, and will be of interest to any health care practitioner keen to understand how an integrated approach to rehabilitation can benefit their clients.

Studienarbeit aus dem Jahr 2013 im Fachbereich VWL - Umweltökonomie, , Veranstaltung: Environmental Economics, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Monetary valuation of environmental goods has by now become the subject of numerous economic books and articles. Interest in the topic seems to be increasing in the economics profession, and theoretical insight, methodological improvements and the numbers of empirical findings are expanding rapidly. The aim of such valuation is usually to incorporate environmental concerns into a cost-benefit analysis. Another purpose is to construct environmentally adjusted national income measures Environmental value estimates have also been combined with macroeconomic models, e.g. to estimate welfare effects of a climate treaty Further, estimated willingness to pay is now accepted in the USA as a basis for legal compensation claims for damages to natural resources caused by spill of hazardous substances (Nyborg, 1996)Valuation can simply be defined "as an attempt to put monetary values or to environmental goods and services or natural resources". It is a key exercise in economic analysis and its results provide important information about values of environmental goods and services. This information can be used to influence decisions about wise use and conservation of forests and other ecosystems. The basic aim of valuation is to determine people's preferences by gauging how much they are willing to pay (WTP) for given benefits or certain env...

An increase in bacterial population and reduction in fungal and actinomycetes population was recorded. The fire has made a serious impact on vegetational composition due to the continuous promotion of retrogression by repeated fire occurrence. The effect of forest fire has heavily influenced the vegetation composition of the study site. The diversity indices and the vegetational study help to conclude that the type of fire occurring in the study site is crown fire and seriously damaging the tree strata in the vegetation. The analysis in the burnt and unburnt area showed that the forest has good regeneration potential especially after the monsoon period. However, the regeneration potential has been seriously affected due to regular occurrence of forest fire. The diversity indices and vegetational study helps to conclude that the regeneration potential of the study site is good enough to regain its original vegetation.

The problem of Northern Ireland is a struggle for sharing power between the Catholics and the Protestants. The structural and basic reasons of the problem have played a very important role in the evolution of it towards civil war. The most important basic reason underlying it is mutual "distrust" between parties in Northern Ireland. On this regard, some necessary steps are to be taken for the stability of the peaceful environment established after the conflict. The normalization of the society and the making of the relations between groups transparent, constitute the "rehabilitation" process itself. Rehabilitation process ensures the continuation of confidence building in schools, helps with the matter of winning future generations, and also plays an important role in ensuring confidence building in institutions. In sum the subject of this study is addressing the contributions of the rehabilitation as the protection of peace, to the social reconciliation process as formed by the societies living in Northern Ireland; and its continuation by discussing the rehabilitation process with reference to the example of Northern Ireland in the phase of transforming conflict. One of the main research questions of this study is to present the contribution of the rehabilitation process on peace within the context of conflict administration. In the first part of this book, the stage of rehabilitation in the development process of conflict administration is discussed. In the ...

Rehabilitation is, by definition, the restoration of optimal form and function for an athlete. In this edition in the Encyclopedia series, the editor and contributors advocate that rehabilitation should begin as soon as possible after the injurty occurs, alongside therapeutic measures such as anti-inflammatories and other pain killing agents. This might also begin before, or immediately after, surgery. The rehabilitative process is therefore managed by a multi-disciplinary team, including physicians, physiotherapists, psychologists, nutritionists, and athletic trainers, amongst others. This book considers the three phases of rehabilitation: pain relief, protection of the affected area and limitation of tissue damage; limitation of impairment and recovery of flexibility, strength, endurance, balance and co-ordination; and finally the start of conditioning to return to training and competition.

Indigenous knowledge attached to forest commonly restricts access to these sites. As a result, many sacred sites have survived for hundreds of years and act as important biodiversity reservoirs. The main objective of the study is to investigate and reveal the indigenous knowledge of Kaffecho society in forest management practices and to propose ways for maintaining useful forest knowledge for sustainable development. The major findings of the research indicated that the indigenous knowledge practices of the community have important roles in forest management. Yet, some of the community knowledge has limitations on their effectiveness, functions and implementations. Similarly, scientific forest management practices have both negative and positive effects on the forest in the study area and on the community’s knowledge. This called for a new strategy whereby indigenous knowledge is transformed by creating a synthesis with scientific knowledge and its application to forest management. This approach opened up the possibility for plural knowledge applications and positive outcomes between the community’s indigenous knowledge and the governmental forest management practices.

One third of the world's soils have already been degraded. The burden on the land continues to grow under the combined pressures of demography, urbanization, artificialization and mining, and there are increased demands on agricultural land: changing dietary preferences, land speculation, as well as new demands for agroenergy, fiber, green chemistry, and more. Resulting issues such as soil crusting, water and wind erosion, soil salinization and soil acidity therefore constitute a major threat. The authors of this book present the main processes and factors of soil degradation, different ways to prevent it and methods of rehabilitation. The book also deals with the origin and processes of metallic and organic soil pollution as well as methods of phytoremediation and restoration. It is one of the few books to explore the issue of soil artificialization and urban soil management and to highlight how agricultural and urban waste can be used to amend and fertilize cultivated soils.

Given recent public rage over executive pay, especially over large salaries for executives at companies that have received bailout money, President Obama's administration is working on tougher restrictions on executive compensation. His main principles, consistent with the objectives of Internal Revenue Code Section 162(m), were meant to curb excessive executive compensation and ensure that pay reflects corporate performance. This study provides a retrospective evaluation of the 1993 regulatory intervention on corporate pay decisions, and extends the analysis of the effectiveness of the Internal Revenue Code Section 162(m) on long-term performance. The findings of this paper offer some insights into the economic effects consequent to government legislation and provide suggestions and insights valuable to those persons engaged in current policy intervention attempts.

Hence, this Master Thesis empirically seeks to find a divergence of language proficiency and willingness to communicate towards the adjustment dimensions and additionally investigates adjustment in the beginning of the international assignment and the current point-in-time. Furthermore, these relationships are examined on a potential interaction of the expatriates' hierarchical position, since it has been argued that language is more important for supervisory personnel and willingness to communicate more denoted to upper management levels. The moderating effect of the assignees' assignment vector is scrutinized in order to confirm whether the comprehensive model of international adjustment (Black et al, 1991) applies equally well to all 97 participating expatriates. Quantitative analysis revealed a positive relationship of both communication skills towards interaction and work adjustment dimension with a higher significance level at the current point-in-time and a slightly higher importance of willingness to communicate to explain the relationship. Inhaltsangabe:Abstract: Leprosy, a communicable disease, is one of the most feared and stigmatised diseases in the world. This disease is an important cause of permanent and progressive disability when it is not treated in an early stage. Leprosy control is an instrument to find and treat all existing leprosy cases in a certain area, to bring them under treatment in order to prevent the disabling consequences of the disease. It is essential to consider the cultural, the social, the political, and the economical aspects in the context of leprosy in Nepal to meet the real need of each individual patient. Due to the agricultural background of almost 93 % of Nepal's population, this field needs special attention as a tool for adequate rehabilitation. This paper aims to provide a solution providing a concept for agricultural leprosy rehabilitation. In chapter five rehabilitation strategies for clients with agricultural background are lined out regarding the specific situation in Nepal. Possibilities for the integration of agricultural topics in occupational therapy are discussed, as well as agricultural business creation suitable for disabled clients. Chapter six contains two curricula. The first curriculum deals with a kitchen garden training in occupational therapy and the second curriculum with a curriculum for a beekeeping training as a business creation measure. Forest mensuration – the science of measurement applied to forest vegetation and forest products – holds value for basic ecology as well as sustainable forest management. As demands on the world’s forests have grown, scientists and professionals are increasingly called on to quantify forest composition, structure, and the goods and services forests provide. Grounded in geometry, sampling theory, and ecology as well as practical field experience, forest mensuration offers opportunities for creative problem solving and critical thinking. This fifth edition of the classic volume, Forest Mensuration, includes coverage of traditional and emerging topics, with attention to SI and Imperial units throughout. The book has been reorganised from the fourth edition to better integrate non-timber and ecological aspects of forest mensuration at the tree, stand, forest, and landscape scales throughout. The new edition includes new chapters that specifically address the integration of remotely sensed data in the forest inventory process, and inventory methods for dead and downed wood. One unifying theme, not only for traditional forestry but for the non-timber inventory and for remote sensing, is the use of covariates to make sampling more efficient and spatially explicit. This is introduced in the introductory chapter on statistics and the chapter on sampling designs has been restructured to highlight this approach and lay the foundation for further learning. New examples will be developed throughout the textbook with an emphasis on current issues and international practice. Sundarban Mangrove Forest in Bangladesh is playing a significant role in local and national economy and is providing protection to the coastline as well as to the indigenous people. During the past decades and also in recent time this forest was heavily disturbed by human intervention in many aspects. As a consequence the resources of the forest are fragmenting, shrinking and declining, which in turn leads to an increasing failure of satisfying increasing demands both at local and national levels. Therefore accurate and continuously updated spatial information is needed for optimizing forest management and environmental planning on both levels to support the fulfillment of urgent needs of sustainability of the development of the forest ecosystems. The present study is an investigation examining the underlying causes of deforestation, forest cover change and its environmental impact. Remarkable changes of the forest cover have been occurred from 1997 to 2006. In the present study, dense forest cover have been changed drastically and converted into light forest in 2006. The total 1.17% forest cover area is reduced.

In addition, maximum area of state falls in the arid and semi-arid tracts which also represent unique sub-forest type, Tropical Desert Thorn Forest". Such forest area represents endemism and site specific distribution of plants which harbour attention of conservation scientist. On the other hand, the infrastructure and industrial development leads to the loss of such unique and important biodiversity. Hence in present book an attempt was made to know the distribution, associated species of threatened plants of Kachchh district.
